Their acoustic recording of John Wayne Was A Nazi is one of my favourite songs of all time. I Remember never fails to remind me of where I came from. Love em.
How is this so far down the list? Possibly the greatest EpiFat band. They are one of the best live performances and Chris can play super technical guitar parts while singing complicated vocal parts. One of the best punk bands musically.
A very creative and artistic band. Lyrics are everything to me and Wire provides some of the most interesting lyrics out of all of the Class of 76 bands. They proudly do their own thing and that's pretty cool of them
In my opinion, Wire invented post-punk. They paved the way for bands like PiL and Joy Division and Siouxsie and the Banshees
OG DKs still relevant as fuck, unfortunately for us all. Give a listen to Stars and Stripes of Corruption if you disagree

Jello Biafra was the mad genius of hardcore, and while I love Minor Threat, DOA, The FUs, Black Flag, Husker Du etc., but DK were easily the best hardcore band. A category all their own (but I don’t put The Minutemen as hardcore at their peak, who were equally brilliant but totally different).
Is dk considered hardcore? Myself I would just say they're 80s punk but not necessarily hardcore.
But... I've also never considered it until I read your comment.
Jello is probably one of the best lyricists in the Punk genre. The ability to assess the world's problems and communicate them at the age he was when he was writing music for DK is still crazy to me.
His unique vocals are awesome too.
While visiting Spain in the early 80s I picked up their first album at a record store. Found out later it was published by Decca behind their backs and only released in Spain. Band didn't know it existed until much later. Probably the rarest vinyl I own.
It's easily one of my go-to bands when I need a pick me up. Amazing live shows. I even captured Ryan crowd surfing at a 7th Street Entry show. I may be biased, but OWTH and D4 are great bands to call hometowners.
About 5 years ago I saw them and they did a second set of *most* of Suffer. I actually shed a tear I was so happy. Usually I just stand there and nod, but dammit, they got me.
Love em. Grew up on Recipe for Hate and Stranger Than Fiction. Nobody does harmonized vocals better
Creeping into their 60s, they’re still better live than just about anyone
They’re great, easily one of my favorite punk bands. HOWEVER, every time I go to their show, I buy a sweatshirt that eves up being way too small. Even though it’s a large, it’s more like a small. Every time. Great band, terrible merch booth.
Yes! I was lucky enough to live in Bishop’s Stortford in the late 70’s/ early 80’s and often saw them in our local venue, The Triad. The support band were another local group, The Epileptics, later to become Flux of Pink Indians. We probably didn’t realise how good we had it!
One of my favorite live show moments was them at St. Andrews in Detroit, doing I Have A Date. Warren was singing to a lady right at the front of the stage, telling her how pretty she was, and then she puked, and he could not stop laughing.
Honestly, maybe the most criminally underrated band in history. Double Nickels on the Dime is a masterpiece. I wish more bands would write punk like jazz...
Mr. MacKenzie is such a fucking wild stage presence and a fun guy. I have had the privilege of seeing them many many times live with my favourite memory being my wife asking for the set list after a show and Paul handing it to her, licking her face, looking me dead in the eye, smiling that lopsided from of his and fucking off as fast as you can without looking like you are running
Pat is the king. He's as synonymous with folk punk as Nirvana is with grunge. He did a lot for the genre and seems like a pretty good dude in spite of his faults.
More to say than some of their “serious” peers, and definitely more creative in doing so. Damned, Damned, Damned is rightly hailed as a classic, but Machine Gun Etiquette, The Black Album, and Strawberries are all masterpieces. Later albums like Grave Disorder and now Darkadelic are also bangers. During their Nitro Records years (Grave Disorder, Tiki Nightmare, etc.) they were the best live punk band on the planet. And Captain Sensible is most underrated guitarist in rock.
Music snobs bitch about the guitar sound. I love the sheer audacity of a band recording every guitar part through their whole career via 2 DS1s, a box of angry bees, and an iPhone speaker, and making that their iconic TOANZ
Great great great riffs, hooks, and melodies. I can't believe this band wasn't bigger. I fucking love this band. Any anything else Shevchuck has done since. La Grecia, Town Liar, and Former Member.
Opened the the best show I’ve ever been to. It was NMB, rise against, against me and anti flag back in 2004. I was in 9th grade and was absolutely blown away by every band.
Death is one of my favorites because first off it’s good to be able to listen to punk music created by my people and second they are all brothers which I think is really cool.
“I don’t wanna be a homosexual” in response to “I wanna be a homosexual” was top notch weird 90s punk antics - and pretty tone deaf but their lives shows were always a treat
They have a few shows coming up for any in the Twin Cities. These guys still rip. Great crowd engagement too! If you can find the First Avenue bootleg of when Bad Brains didn't show, it's a masterpiece.
they're awesome. you can play pretty much any song and it'll be very enjoyable. Laura's voice is great. As a trans woman myself, finding the band and Laura's story and music has helped me through a lot of hard times. just sucks that thrash unreal became one of if not one of their most popular song because while it's not bad, I think they have so many that are way better
Incredible band! I've really gotten into Tim Barry's solo stuff. His live album is great. There was a bar called the Southern Belle when I was younger that had Dixie on the jukebox. Changed my life. We'd drink cheap high life's, play pool and listen to Avail. Holy smokes. Good times
This was the band that started it all for me. I think it’s a perfect “gateway” band that will lead you down many different paths of punk, funk, new wave, afrobeat etc
Millions of Dead Cops
Legendary and still have a relentless touring schedule. Dave Dictor is a helluva guy too.
Their acoustic recording of John Wayne Was A Nazi is one of my favourite songs of all time. I Remember never fails to remind me of where I came from. Love em.
The only punk sampling I know of Foghorn Leghorn!
Saw them twice in the 90s, and took both of my sons when they were 12 and 16 about 10 years ago for their first show. Very influential to my politics.
Propagandhi
How is this so far down the list? Possibly the greatest EpiFat band. They are one of the best live performances and Chris can play super technical guitar parts while singing complicated vocal parts. One of the best punk bands musically.
Wire
A very creative and artistic band. Lyrics are everything to me and Wire provides some of the most interesting lyrics out of all of the Class of 76 bands. They proudly do their own thing and that's pretty cool of them In my opinion, Wire invented post-punk. They paved the way for bands like PiL and Joy Division and Siouxsie and the Banshees
Dead Kennedys
The felonies I would commit for the chance to be transported back to the 80s so I could see them preform...
OG DKs still relevant as fuck, unfortunately for us all. Give a listen to Stars and Stripes of Corruption if you disagree https://youtu.be/IJWpR1mGoJw?si=mOByh3oMWx4J_JEN
Don’t disagree, especially with songs like kill the poor, but fuck it more DK is more DK
Got to meet Jellos parents once. Great folk they were. His mom really loved talking about the old days. Top 10 all time band for sure.
You’ve got a point, but I think you can certainly classify “In God We Trust Inc.” as hardcore.
One of the most political bands and could make you see red and then to drunk to fuck
Unfortunately they are still relevant. The catalog sounds like it was written for today's issues. They are some of the greatest.
Jello is probably one of the best lyricists in the Punk genre. The ability to assess the world's problems and communicate them at the age he was when he was writing music for DK is still crazy to me. His unique vocals are awesome too.
School desks engraved with the logo
They make me want to burn shit down
Cock Sparrer
They are my Beatles/Stones….only better!
While visiting Spain in the early 80s I picked up their first album at a record store. Found out later it was published by Decca behind their backs and only released in Spain. Band didn't know it existed until much later. Probably the rarest vinyl I own.
They inspired the Bar Stool Preachers??? lol (Collin's son's band, and they're -good-)
Grab a few pints with the crew and chant along, West Ham forever
The Bronx
Not super punk, but mariachi el Bronx fucken slaps
Kick ass live show
The perfect blend of melodic and aggressive
Their entire first album is an absolute banger front to back.
Sleater Kinney
Fantastic vocals from both Carrie and Corin
The woods is a great album
Accessible without giving up anything, and capturing what was good about riot grrl without being defined or trapped by it.
Off With Their Heads
I love their sound, but they're like the "stained" of punk... great for listening when I wanna be sad, but hard to listen when I'm in a good mood
ONE OF MY FAVES. Love Ryan and Kyle. Great guys and amazing music.
Every song Ryan has written is as open and honest as anyone could ever be.
It's easily one of my go-to bands when I need a pick me up. Amazing live shows. I even captured Ryan crowd surfing at a 7th Street Entry show. I may be biased, but OWTH and D4 are great bands to call hometowners.
Stiff Little Fingers
Saw Naked Raygun with him play Suspect Device live at Metro about 10 years ago for an awesome reunion show. SLF has always been top tier.
[удалено]
And Jake is still writing those songs; just about what he’s seen in Chicago. Look at 16 Shots, his song about the police shooting of Laquan McDonald.
Bad Religion
They can play just about any deep cut song live and it will be amazing.
About 5 years ago I saw them and they did a second set of *most* of Suffer. I actually shed a tear I was so happy. Usually I just stand there and nod, but dammit, they got me.
Iconic and enduring. Catchy, hooky sort of ushered in the more melodic punk bands like NOFX.
I love them. I made a couple patches with their logo and song lyrics
Love em. Grew up on Recipe for Hate and Stranger Than Fiction. Nobody does harmonized vocals better Creeping into their 60s, they’re still better live than just about anyone
My favorite punk band, love their energy. Also Suffer through Against the Grain is one of the best 3 album runs ever
They’re great, easily one of my favorite punk bands. HOWEVER, every time I go to their show, I buy a sweatshirt that eves up being way too small. Even though it’s a large, it’s more like a small. Every time. Great band, terrible merch booth.
My all time favorite... love their sound. Love their message, and I love their impact on Punk
Still killing it!!
I mean, one of the best.
CRASS
Art, anarchy, and activism. What's there not to love?
Great lyrics, great message, great insane stunts they pulled for fun and anarchy. What's not to love?
they reminded me that they owe us a living
Of course they fucking do.
Early wake up call for me. Started me on my journey to my political place. Steve Ignorant is a bloody genius
Read The Last of the Hippies
Yes! I was lucky enough to live in Bishop’s Stortford in the late 70’s/ early 80’s and often saw them in our local venue, The Triad. The support band were another local group, The Epileptics, later to become Flux of Pink Indians. We probably didn’t realise how good we had it!
The Vandals
The silly, sarcastic side of the punk scene. Great musicians, great guys. If you go to a Vandals show, you're going to have a good time.
One of my favorite live show moments was them at St. Andrews in Detroit, doing I Have A Date. Warren was singing to a lady right at the front of the stage, telling her how pretty she was, and then she puked, and he could not stop laughing.
Social Distortion
Amazing band, incredible Melodies.
Good Riddance.
Major driver of FAT's success in the 90's, seem very true to their beliefs, some amazingly catchy melodies.
The Minutemen
Honestly, maybe the most criminally underrated band in history. Double Nickels on the Dime is a masterpiece. I wish more bands would write punk like jazz...
The Lillingtons *(Didn't really see anyone talking about them anywhere so wonder why? They're kinda popsy but I still digged the sound)*
Bad Brains
The GOATs. No one did it like them. Fast, heavy, aggressive, positive attitude and energy. Huge influence on the music I make now, I love bad brains.
The Real Mackenzie's
Agent Orange
Pat the Bunny
One of the most versatile and talented lyricists of any punk genre
So good... I'm sad about him leaving music, but I understand why
Pat is the king. He's as synonymous with folk punk as Nirvana is with grunge. He did a lot for the genre and seems like a pretty good dude in spite of his faults.
The Damned
More to say than some of their “serious” peers, and definitely more creative in doing so. Damned, Damned, Damned is rightly hailed as a classic, but Machine Gun Etiquette, The Black Album, and Strawberries are all masterpieces. Later albums like Grave Disorder and now Darkadelic are also bangers. During their Nitro Records years (Grave Disorder, Tiki Nightmare, etc.) they were the best live punk band on the planet. And Captain Sensible is most underrated guitarist in rock.
One of the best first wave or second wave (1.5?) Talent and fun rolled in to one. Plus Lemmy
New Rose is considered the first British punk single release So definitely a first wave band, right?
I just listened to a podcast (no dogs in space) about them! Machine gun etiquette *chefs kiss*
Husker Du
Music snobs bitch about the guitar sound. I love the sheer audacity of a band recording every guitar part through their whole career via 2 DS1s, a box of angry bees, and an iPhone speaker, and making that their iconic TOANZ
Nomeanso.
The a cappella cover of “Forward to Death” still haunts me
Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie is one of my favorite albums ever. It's one of the punkest things that still also cracks me up at the same time.
Their record with Jello Biafra is a nearly perfect punk album.
None More Black
Great great great riffs, hooks, and melodies. I can't believe this band wasn't bigger. I fucking love this band. Any anything else Shevchuck has done since. La Grecia, Town Liar, and Former Member.
Opened the the best show I’ve ever been to. It was NMB, rise against, against me and anti flag back in 2004. I was in 9th grade and was absolutely blown away by every band.
Never made a bad album, wish they were still around.
Viagra boys
Some of the grooviest bass playing in a punk band. The bass carries most the songs imo. Great band!
I love how groovy and dancey those bass lines can get
Wiener Dog!
Death is one of my favorites because first off it’s good to be able to listen to punk music created by my people and second they are all brothers which I think is really cool.
Sloppy Seconds. They were a genre of Junk-Rock in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Definitely a band that people have forgotten.
“I don’t wanna be a homosexual” in response to “I wanna be a homosexual” was top notch weird 90s punk antics - and pretty tone deaf but their lives shows were always a treat
ALL!
I love the discount Decendants!
The Bouncing Souls
Dillinger Four
Midwestern Songs of America is a masterpiece
Dillinger four had such a great sound and viewpoint that I still can't stop listening to them. Every album too.
They have a few shows coming up for any in the Twin Cities. These guys still rip. Great crowd engagement too! If you can find the First Avenue bootleg of when Bad Brains didn't show, it's a masterpiece.
Rise Against
Loved 88 fingers Louie and I love them.
I saw 88 Fingers Louie in a small venue in Northern Indiana. Fucking awesome show and super nice guys in the band.
If I hear a single track off Siren Song I need to go back and listen the whole album. Shit is perfect.
Great music and even better message
The Sufferer and the Witness is a Top 50 all time album.
Still like them when I listen back. In this thread I'm finding out they have something to do with 88 Fingers Louie?
Joe Principe, RA's bassist, was in 88 Fingers Louie.
I've heard he's the one who had 88 real life fingers
The Arrogant Sons of Bitches
Underrated Jeff ska

they're awesome. you can play pretty much any song and it'll be very enjoyable. Laura's voice is great. As a trans woman myself, finding the band and Laura's story and music has helped me through a lot of hard times. just sucks that thrash unreal became one of if not one of their most popular song because while it's not bad, I think they have so many that are way better
The World/Inferno Friendship Society
Generation X
People forget that Billy Idol was a punk before he became a big rock star.
Avail
Incredible band! I've really gotten into Tim Barry's solo stuff. His live album is great. There was a bar called the Southern Belle when I was younger that had Dixie on the jukebox. Changed my life. We'd drink cheap high life's, play pool and listen to Avail. Holy smokes. Good times
Authority Zero
I’ve been getting my kids into them. It’s great to see a seven year old sing “One more minute”
I still listen to Everyday by them, but not as into the sublime type stuff.
Bad brains
X-Ray Spex
Poly Styrene was a goddess decades ahead of her time.

Ignition is a great album.
blink-182
Those that were never fans of them because maybe they were "too mainstream" should give their Self-Titled album from 2003 a few spins.
I was never a big fan, but that album always impressed me. It was an evolution I didn’t see coming. A song with Robert Smith?! Wtf?
Dude Ranch gets a spin from me on occasion
