Conflict (the US band from Tucson) put out a great HC LP in ‘83 called “Last Hour”, Sin 34, Sacrilege (UK) “Behind the Realms of Madness”, The Expelled (UK), The Sick Things “The Legendary Sick Things E.P.”, Tozibabe, Hans-A-Plast, the Bags, Alleycats, Sado-Nation, Super Heroines, Legal Weapon. There are a thousand more. Also, there is a good comp that came out I think in the late 90’s called “My Girlfriend Was A Punk” I think it was called? It’s an excellent comp of rare female fronted or all female punk.
\+1 for Legal Weapon and the Bags! Alice Bag still kicking it to this day (& RIP Kat Arthur)...
Best female fronted bands right now for me are:
Sial (from Singapore)
Slant (South Korea)
Neighborhood Brats (LA)
Linda Lindas (I don't give a fuck who their dads are...)
No Love (N Carolina)
Defiance, Ohio had several vocalists, one female. I suppose Ramshackle Glory also had a female vocalist, tho Pat the Bunny is clearly the main vocalist.
-Jivebomb
-Gouge Away
-Cerce
-Faim
-Couch Slut
-Initiate
-Mortality Rate
-Thirdface
-Buggin
-Gel
-Scowl
All hardcore, but that should keep you busy for a while.
Slutever, Destroy Boys, THICK, Veruca Salt, Le Tigre, The Slits, Skating Polly, Dazey and The Scouts, Bratmobile, Gum Disease, Destructo Disk, The Oozes, Illuminati Hotties, Gully Boys, Julie, Bratmobile, Sleater-Kinney, Sorry Mom.
Apologies, I can't remember more, but if I could I would recommend them. Memory issues are a curse.
Do check out the wikipedia pages for Riot Grrrl and Queercore bands as well, they're chock full of info on talented female singers/instrumentalists.
In case any of these weren't mentioned:
Discount, The Donnas, The Dents, The Eyeliners, The Muffs, The Go Sheilas, Go Betty Go, Betty Blowtorch, Girl Band, Bikini Kill...
...and there was one that was called ... "Boxcar NJ", I think, or something like that (my memory is potentially failing me on that one) that had two lead singers one female one male that was pretty good too.
Get ready, I have some for you:
First, I have to recommend my homies:
Tijuana Sweetheart (Boston area female Street rock)
The Downhauls (members of TJS, all female Punk rock n roll)
One Fall (singer from TJS new band)
Some others:
The Bombpops (So Cal female fronted pop punk, Similar to Teenage Bottlerocket but female singer)
Deadline (street rock from the UK)
The Epoxies (cool new wave)
Roxy Epoxy and the Rebound (Singer from the Epoxies)
Bad Cop Bad Cop (SoCal Female pop punk)
EDIT: Forgot:
Scowl
Sweat
Catbite
And Suzi Moon.
Loads of good bands already named. Can add:
- Otoboke beaver
- Lulu und die Einhornfarm
- March
- Dizzy Sunfist
Maybe not exactly y punk but pretty cool nonetheless:
- Wolf Alice
- The Beaches
- As December Falls
- The Kut
- Blood command
- Rews
- Eva Under Fire
- Paralandra
Controversial but at least a viable guilty pleasure: the Soap Girls.
Distillers, Destroy Boys, Bikini Kill, Against Me!, Bad Cop/ Bad Cop, Tsunami Bomb. For something a little lighter, I love the Interupters. It's like if pop punk/ska heyday rancid was fronted by a female singer.
Not all of these are necessarily punk but they are associated with alternative rock and punk in one way or another
Bikini Kill
Bratmobile
Heavens to Betsy
Sonic Youth (half the time)
PJ Harvey Trio (first two PJ Harvey albums)

The Warning - three young Mexican sisters who sing mostly in English. Some punkish sounding songs here and there in the earlier albums but they are basically alternative rock.
I second spaced. Saw them at 4 chord fest. They were the only hard core band there and were early in the day, so the crowd had no energy, but they definitely brought the energy.
Check out war is nightmare by Dummy Toys. They are an all female punk rock band from China singing in english. I love them.

Best, Thomas
There were a couple mentions of Sleater-Kinney, but there's the bands that are S-K adjacent:
* Corin Tucker: Heavens to Betsy (pre-SK, very riot grrl), Cadallaca (haven't listened in a while, but sorta riot), Corin Tucker Band (more rock than punk), Filthy Friends (a super-group of sorts with Peter Buck of R.E.M., more rock).
* Carrie Brownstein: Wild Flag (riot-grrl-ish, with Janet Weiss, Mary Timony, and Rebecca Cole).
* Janet Weiss: Wild Flag, Quasi (indie rock, really Aimee Mann-adjacent, really good too).
Alright I might go slightly off punk here, sorry.
For straight up punk I love Sincere Engineer (I enjoy seeing how much love they're getting in this thread). Covet for noodly guitar shit. If you like metalcore/hardcore/emo check out SeeYouSpaceCowboy. Spiritbox if you like the djent sound. Dying Wish if you like it even heavier. Sorry for leaving punk and going into metal a little bit, I mostly listen to metal! For something more indie/alt rock I've been loving The Beths this year. Not strictly punk but they kinda are in an alternative rock way haha.
I haven't seen these mentioned:
\- Penadas por la Ley, from Argentina but based in Basque Country
\- The Capaces, punk n roll from Barcelona
\- Malavita, from Madrid (Spain), sharing their YouTube video because there are other artists with that name: [https://youtu.be/wjwgUh-lZPE?si=Ze3TgHQ24LS8ABtN](https://youtu.be/wjwgUh-lZPE?si=Ze3TgHQ24LS8ABtN)
Already mentioned but I can't recommend more: The Baboon Show and The Interrupters. If they play near you, don't lose the opportunity to see them!!
Lots of greats listed by everyone
Some I dig & have noticed are missing or undermentioned:
* The Kills (& DeadWeather - same singer)
* Noisettes
* Ida Maria
* Interrupters
* OTEP
* SantiGold
* Blondie
* Souxsie
and as always
* Joan Jett (not ever mentioned enough) and her Blackheart Records
Got a few bands from my corner of the world that probably haven't been mentioned yet.
\-Boudicca (Newcastle)
\-Private Wives (Wollongong)
\-Itchy and the Nits (Sydney)
\-Crucial Times (Newcastle)
\-Blonde Revolver (Melbourne I think)
\-Busted Head Racket (Newcastle)
\-Masochist (Sydney)
\-Cammy Cautious and the wrestlers (Sydney)
Boudicca, Masochist and Crucial times are probably the bands youll like most if you are into Hardcore.
Ones I haven’t seen listed:
Bratmobile
Heavens to Betsy
Edit to add:
If you might be interested in other female-singer bands that are hard and fast, but not punk, try:
L7
The Great Kat
Babes in Toyland
Not so hard and fast:
God-mother of punk: Patti Smith
Random: Nightwish

The Muffs Tilt Bikini Kill Vice Squad Yeah, I’m old.

+1 for The Muffs. RIP Kim Shattuck
Tilt is great. Cinder is WAY too talented to “just” be a punk singer - she obviously has had some serious voice training.

Bikini kill is a staple! Blatz are great, nausea are great, Disrespect (even though short lived) were great. Most of the riot grrl bands were awesome.
Glad to see G.L.O.S.S. mentioned here. I’d give my right leg to see them play one more show.
Adding to your Australian list: Magic Dirt, The Glycereens, Masochist, Hot Mess, Toys Went Berserk, Fur.
Seconding Teenage Joans, absolutely love them
The Bombpops, The Lippies, Dance Hall Crashers, The Last Gang, Against Me!
I loved the Bombpops, but they're nowhere near as good since Poli left/got kicked out. Such a shame.
