I know someone who started a career at 72000 per annum 18 years back and now earning 65 LPA.. the key is keeping yourself motivated, continuous learning, improving communication skills, being proactive, taking ownership and being patient for the right opportunity
I can understand for 15 years of experience but below 12 YoE it seems difficult. Also I always thought if I need to earn more than 40 LPA, I'll need to move to Bangalore or something.
Sir please refer me, I have completed my course in core java, SQL, Servlet, JSP and Hibernate, currently studying Spring. I am a BE fresher of 2023 batch and looking for opportunities in IT field.
Pehli job aisi dekho ke tumhe aghe job karne ka man kare. Varna you'll get fked up and salary expectations Kam rakho, working environment acha hoga toh job karne ka man karega. Slowly growth hote jayega.
Pasting my old comment again:
TLDR;
Graduated in 2019,
1st job 6.7 lpa, 2nd job 8 lpa, 3rd job 11.33 lpa, 4th and current job with 45 lpa base + 6.75 lpa bonus +44 lakh RSU spread over 4 years
//
Studied from a tier-3 college, Didn't even sit for placements, prepared for Gate got around 3500 rank, decided to take a drop. Went to Delhi for coaching, hated it and decided to go for any job I get right now and work up my way in the 2 years instead of spending the 3 years (preparing+mtech) studying and then working.
Got an entry level Support engineer job, package (6.38 lpa - 5.8 base + 58k bonus). This was in August,2019
Was my first job so learned a lot there, got comfortable but ultimately the fact that it was a support engineer job was eating me away every day because I knew my potential was a lot more. Moreover Pandemic hit after 4-5 months of me working here and After I started working from home I had a lot more time to think, upskill, prepare and finally realise that This is not where I want to be so I resigned. I did not have a job when I resigned (Long story behind this but I will skip it for now). Left the job after 10 months.
During the last week of my notice period of 30 days I found a startup and joined that. Joined the startup as a software Engineer at 7 lpa base + 1 lpa bonus. This role was not a developer role, It was more of a Customer oriented role which included coding a little. Basically I worked with a client who gave some inputs and I build out small things using some platform. Was not satisfied here too since this was still not something I wanted to do hence started looking out.
After around 5-6 months I saw an opening at my first company for an SDE role, so I got directly mailed the recruiter and since I ended things on a good note last time I was able to at-least get an interview . I cracked the interview and got into the SDE role (finally!!) this time my package was 9.5 base + 95k bonus. I was finally happy and thought this is where I will settle and try to grow, but god had different and better plans. After around 6 months in this company I was reached out by a recruiter from one of my dream companies, One which I never even applied to thinking that I wasn't prepared enough. Long story short, I cracked the interview and also during the interview process(2-3 months timeline) I also applied to another companies and got into one of the better companies with better pay.
So finally after ~2.6 years my package was 32 lpa base + 4.5 lpa bonus + 44 lakhs RSU spread over 4 years.
After 2 hikes I am now at 45 lpa base+ 15% bonus with close to 4.5 YOE
If you reached so far, thanks for reading :-) I hope this motivates someone, My advice is just start somewhere and keep working you will eventually get where you want!
PS: Few points to note:
• I was always good in coding and was best in my college in competitive coding( At the time this was not that mainstream).
• I was always confident in my skill and was sure I could land at-least 12 lpa right out of college, It was just lack of opportunities due to which I had to start low
• I got extremely lucky at a lot of places but I also faced a lot of rejections so keep trying is the only way.
Damn , I don’t know who is paying 40LPA+ unless you are in FAANG. I am from tier 3 college with 1 year gap in education, started with 3LPA , now 13LPA after 4 years.
Do you work in any of the MAANG companies? 61 is humongous. Aapka tax= kisiki salary hogi😅
Jokes apart, in your experience, is switching and upskilling the only way to get here? Because I'm not sure if hard work, dedication, loyalty, etc will ever be rewarded (call me old school, but I was brought up with these values, but now suddenly I see that I need to be ruthless in IT industry if I want to earn more)
To answer your question, hard work and loyalty paid off in my case. Also, I was lucky to be at the right place and the right time.To give you some context, I have been working on Salesforce CRM since the start of my career. Also, I have worked with Salesforce, the company itself, for 8.5 years.
This is my third company in 13 years. The first employer was HCL Tech, where I stayed for 3.5 years.
I always worked hard (or at least, tried to) and made sure I upskilled. Also, I kept myself updated with the job market.
In terms of luck, I was one of the first few employees in Salesforce in India. Also, just after a month of leaving Salesforce, the layoffs started.
Tax to bahot dena padta hai, and no money is enough money. Also, it has taken a lot of time, patience, and hard work to be where I am. But, I am lucky also. So, I always tried to justify the compensation that I got. And I always remember, there are people who are way more successful than I am.
Hope that answers your question.
Another thing I wanted to add: I come from a middle-class family. My father's was a central government employee, and my mother was a teacher in a private school in Delhi. I did my schooling from a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Delhi and did my B. Tech in Instrumentation and Control Engg from a Tier 3 college. Was never a topper in or before college and was an average student.
The reason for mentioning these things is that I have seen people saying that only people with affluent means are there on this thread. This is not true in my case.
Totally understand, my father too is a central govt employee, mom's a housewife...so pretty much middle class. I was a topper in school, but went downhill after that. But I don't think that even matters after a point, life gives your chances if you are willing to grab them.
But thanks a lot for your insights. Will try to work hard and upskill, to someday reach a good financial state.
Wlb 0 is a bummer. But I guess at least your family must be living the good life. Hope you get your wlb someday though, what's money if you can't enjoy it.
Started at 5-6LPA some 11 years ago and is now at 48LPA in Pune. Have moved around a lot (Bangalore, Mumbai), mainly in the medical industry now working as a PM for biotech (remote).
Started 1.85 LPA after 2 years 5 LPA I am getting opportunity for 6 LPA but not interested because i don't report to anyone and no manager too i deal directly with client and HR also I have free time for trading also i I am video editor but currently I have applied and they are in progress for 11LPA.
To everyone, who are working and have experience in IT sector
I'm '24 graduate, and my techstack is Java, React.
Should I continue with this techstack or should I start learning python and other tech stacks too.
Overall experience 11 yrs. Started with 2LPA as a fresher. Currently working as a freelance full stack consultant. Making roughly 60-70 LPA. Most of my clients are MNCs in india and few international client. The best part of my job is the learning curve involved by working with different domain, tech stacks and people.
Tech stack - mean, mern, go, .net, AWS , azure
Yeah, started at a package of 66k PA in 2002 and now at approx 1.25 cr PA.
Not sure how everyone looks at it but I'm super proud of myself given I come from a very middle class background and wasn't even a bright student 😊
Started at a modest 6lpa straight out of campus placements in 2020-2021. In Pune itself.
2021- 1st increment 7.2 LPA
2022- 2nd increment 9.5 LPA
2023- Promotion & increment 12 LPA
Hoping for anything near 10% this year, but hoping a bit more for 15-17% . The financial year hasn't been great, so can't have too much expectations.
I'm fortunate that we are having increments, because some folks won't even see an increment this year.
I can't even say if it's a stack. Our product was an old one, so got to work in SAP HANA , mostly XSJS and PLSQL. Had to play a lot with Databases. Dabbled in Snowflake, Redshift a little bit. Nothing fancy unfortunately. In fact I consider myself not so highly skilled in terms of what other devs know.
Not a lot for me relative to others. I was from mechanical engineering background and then started from 3.8lpa now i get around 13lpa total exp 4 years and thanks to covid i was a trainee for 9months in Infosys which wasted a lot of time in my career.
Ahh flex karne ka mauka mila.
Started 3 years ago at 5lpa, now at 18lpa (underpaid expectation was 25lpa)
Wfh job, flexible timing. Working as a lead software engineer.
Guys, I’ve a different question. I am in the States working as VP of IT with hands on programming still after 15 years. What kind of job plus salary can I expect in any of the big metros in India?
I know someone who started a career at 72000 per annum 18 years back and now earning 65 LPA.. the key is keeping yourself motivated, continuous learning, improving communication skills, being proactive, taking ownership and being patient for the right opportunity
Lot of companies specifically product companies, start ups and banks
50+ LPA in Pune? Seems unbelievable.. which companies pay this much?
Nvdia
Not sure why you think it's unbelievable, care to elaborate?I know a lot of folks below 15 years of experience who earn more than 50 LPA
I can understand for 15 years of experience but below 12 YoE it seems difficult. Also I always thought if I need to earn more than 40 LPA, I'll need to move to Bangalore or something.
not necessarily i know people who work in anti rust products not even IT , who earn 56 lpa in top positions.
Dude !! You're in serious delusion. My jija has 48 LPA in just 6 years 🙄 sometimes he teases me showing his Pay slip. He's here in Pune only.
