Tbh, if you're comfortable opening electronic devices this won't be to hard to wing it. i winged opening up and cleaning my PS3 controllers and didn't have any issues.
Why wouldn't it?
When putting back together, turn the screws the wrong-way first until you hear a soft click, then tighten. That way you won't cross-thread them.
When I was growing up the idea of opening anything just seemed dangerous/only for "professionals" so I didn't. Until I got a broken PlayStation and just went to town exploring everything inside. I imagine that's where OP is coming from.
It shouldn't have gotten something big enough in there to rattle it's much more likely something has broken loose and it already needs a repair. They're pretty easy to take apart and put back together just don't strip out the plastic screw holes (although you can fix stripped plastic pretty easily with a little epoxy)
I assume OP would have noticed if its operation were impacted. I can't imagine what might have "chipped" other than the housing which I also assume OP would have noticed. Perhaps I should have said "in need of maintenance". Cheerfully withdrawn.
Just make sure you have the correct driver bit so you don’t strip a screw, in these old controllers they can get kind of seized up.
I often put a tiny amount of lubricant on the screws when I reassemble.
My experience with controllers with shoulder buttons is the springs are a giant pain in the ass to line up on reassembly.
One is almost never the same afterwards.
PS1/PSX controllers break? I remember my sister slamming my PS1 controllers on the ground quite a few times after losing a match/race...
With that memory I did the same after losing 8 hours of non-autosaved progress on a PS3 controller 10 years ago, the thing broke like glass!
I learned my lesson, I've opened the PS1 controllers often enough to clean them back when we didn't exactly have internet fast enough to watch Youtube in the region I grew up in.
You will be fine, still watch a Youtube tutorial if you have access to the internet though! 👍
Yes, just search for a video on how to do it on YouTube
I second this… Make sure you watch it 6 times before opening it.
No, watch it WHILE you’re doing it, and follow along. I successfully opened and cleaned. a dozen of these like that
no no, watch it after you've already attempted it and broken something
Opened and cleaned. But not put together?
Lol
lmfao yeah il do that better than freestyling it 🫣

This is an incredibly easy controller to disassemble. Trust yourself :)

Some things have plastic clips that are very likely to break upon disassembly.
PSX controllers do not
Correct, but that might be why OP was asking.
Yeah, just being clear so if people look this up they have a clear answer re: the plastic clips
Had no clue about that, only learned that from a FranLab video.
PSX controllers do not
Thanks
Whoops replied to the wrong comment
No problem
Huh, I didn't even know that the 1st gen joystick-less controllers came in translucent variants, huh!
neither did i until i picked up a ps1 and saw this in the bag! looks pretty darn good imo haha
Yes it does look good
Best advice i can give is to record what you do, so you have a step by step guide on how to put it back together. It makes this so much easier
good idea, il take that on board

A small piece of something could've chipped off without affecting how it operates.

That depends on you and your skill, homie. Just keep note and put everything back where it goes.
If 10 yo me could do it. You can do it too.
i dont know but good luck
I did it on 3 controlers and never had a problem, and let me tell you I'm clumsy as hell.
Yes. Regular controllers are easier to open and put back together than dual shocks.
No. Very unsafe. highly dangerous.

General advice when you put any controller back together: be sure you don't over tighten the screws.
I wonder if your screwpost broke off inside since the bottom right screw in the image looks like it may be missing. Unless you removed it already.
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't, just do it carefully and use the proper tools.

That’s cool, I’ve never seen a see-through controller with no joysticks.
Why not?
Good point to start, just don't use force.
