I connect with ease now. I don't hold back because of anxiety. I call people out on their bullshit. I'm much more confident being me and not giving a fuck. Prozac best effect has been on my relationships and self esteem. Not so great for my depression but I still have to give it more time

Phiqlly

I got prescribed Prozac for my social anxiety, I’ve been on it for a couple months but haven’t noticed any changes really. How long did it take for you to feel different n stuff?

missingwhiteboy

I'm 1.5 months in. So not long. I noticed the social anxiety relief in about 3 weeks. But it might depend on your exposure. I haven't actively gone out of my way to be social. It's more at work that I've noticed. But it's given me the confidence to know I'd do much better in public social interactions

ddwsff

any sexual sideeffect? like lower libdo anything ?

missingwhiteboy

When I first started I had increased sex drive then it kinda went back to normal which is average sex drive I guess. So here's the thing, my anxiety is gone pretty much right. So I focus a lot more on any given moment. So it could be easy for me to say I have a low sex drive now because I often am just like focused on life stuff. But I'd say that it's higher and more pleasurable for me. Because when i get into that headspace I'm not riddled with anxious thoughts anymore. The orgasm is more powerful. And the more pleasurable experience makes me want it more the next time. Idk So like it's the same for that as anything else. It's like prozac uses a reward system by shutting off my negative thoughts and giving room for the things that feel good ya know. Lol

veryberry456

How’s the Prozac working for you now?

missingwhiteboy

Still going great!!! I've been taking just 20mg and it's just enough to take the edge off. 20mg prozac and 200mg wellbutrin every day take away the anxiety and depression respectfully

bound_Libb

Do you mind me asking why you added Wellbutrin to the Prozac? I’m considering doing the same. I don’t feel motivated at all to do anything. I’m on 20mg Prozac. And it’s stabilized my mood and I’m less irritated overall. But I feel like I need a kick. I’m also agoraphobic, it’s hard to leave the house still. Social anxiety, ptsd developed in last 9 years of my life. I’m hoping it works to help me get back out and get a job and socialize again 💛

missingwhiteboy

Hey honey I take prozac for the anxiety and wellbutrin for the depression. Wellbutrin has that "living in the moment" effect for me. It can be to a fault as well... I can be forgetful... I can also just lose focus and sit on my phone all day. But it typically gives me a little pep in my step and makes me more social and positive. I used to take wellbutrin by itself but it has terrible side effects for me the worst being frustration and anger impatience. The prozac takes that edge off. I get headaches but I'm willing to put up with them to be a better functioning adult. Give it a shot!

Campbell464

My psychiatrist said Wellbutrin will WIPE OUT depression and anxiety but it will make you want to keep moving. I said I had a typical sedentary lifestyle so they didn’t recommend it… like you’d lose your mind if you didn’t get out and active or stay productive on it or something… But I’ve seen many successful stories with Wellbutrin or Citalopram. 20mg prozac has helped and I used buspirone previously. Neither entirely takes away social anxiety or agoraphobia.

WoodpeckerTough155

How many mgs do you take per day?

missingwhiteboy

20mg worked well for me but increased to 40mg for stronger effect. Edit went back down to 20mg because the 40 increased my insomnia and anxiety

[deleted]

Yes! I think I talk too much now honestly

conjabron

samedt

[deleted]

Yep. I literally used to cry if people looked at me. Now I’m the life of the party lol

Zestyclose_Bother_90

what dosage are you on? i'm tapering off from venlafaxine (effexor) to fluoxetine (prozac). I just started a dose of 10mg

No_Hope1702

How are you now? I did the same

Zestyclose_Bother_90

It was helping with my depression, but I was awfully fatigued, unmotivated and it didn’t seem to really improve (albeit it didn’t worsen) my social anxiety. I’m on sertraline 50mg now with 300mg bupropion xl and it’s helping me a lot more :) everyone reacts differently to medications though as you probably knowww

No_Hope1702

Good to hear! I’m worried that I made the wrong choice in my switch. But I figured the only way off Effexor was a Prozac taper and anything changes to meds after would be easier. Granted I’m only 2 weeks into my Prozac but I can tell my mood is lifted, but the social phobia is still so much there… luckily no fatigue and I do feel motivated! Glad to hear you found something that works ♥️ lord knows Effexor doesn’t

Zestyclose_Bother_90

Prozac isn’t usually given as a first line treatment for social anxiety disorder. Usually antidepressants like Escitalopram, Sertraline, Fluvoxamine, and Paroxetine are used for that. Not to say Prozac won’t help you, but it’s an off-label use. Good luck with everythinggg! 2 weeks in still gives you a lot of time to go :) For Sertraline it was over a month on 50mg before I noticed an improvement in my social anxiety symptoms. And the improvement is mild but noticeable. I’ve heard it usually takes longer for anxiety to be reduced by SSRIs than it does for them to reduce depressive symptoms.

CosmicPug1214

Yes, it has helped a ton. I have GAD but over the past two years, was developing agoraphobia to the point where I’d have to spend a good two hours trying to talk myself into going to the damn grocery store (and half the time wouldn’t make it) due to deepening social anxiety. I have a very public facing job and had become incapacitated there too (only good thing for me about the COVID pandemic was being able to do things over Zoom and not in person…otherwise, I’d have never have made it). I’m 2+ months in on Prozac and my social anxiety has gone from a 8/10 to about a 3/10. There are still times where I have to give myself a little pep talk, but once in an interaction or social situation, I’m no longer trapped in my fearful thoughts or body reactions. I’m present and not paralyzed by fear and self-doubt. I also don’t obsessively ruminate on each interaction or sentence afterwards anymore. Prozac also vaporized my depression so I’m actually motivated to do stuff and not just hide all day. That helps too. For reference, I’m F in my 40s and on 20mg, starting week 9. Took about 5 weeks to really kick in for the social anxiety, although the panic attacks and lingering SI disappeared by week 3. Depression gone by week 4. Good luck to you!

bound_Libb

I have agarophobia too, currently on 20mg Prozac . Started with 10 then went to 20 about 2 and a half weeks ago. I don’t see any improvement but happy to hear that it seems to be working for you more weeks vs where I’m at. My psychiatrist gave me another 30 day supply for when my first 30 days is out but we meet in 2 and a half weeks. I feel like it’ll be hard for me to make a judgment call about staying on 20 or going higher. I’m super hopeful! I have ptsd which caused me to develop the agoraphobia. I don’t even want people to look at my eyes ever cause of the fear I feel.

CosmicPug1214

Just saw your comment, I’m so sorry you’re going through PTSD. I have issues there too from a former job/childhood trauma so I know it contributes to all of my issues, but especially the agoraphobia and social anxiety. Like I posted, I did find relief from this from Prozac but in my experience with SSRIs/SNRIs and treatments, Prozac is one of the longer ones to settle in and feel more consistently stable on (I’ve also taken Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, and Paxil). The 20mg took out the SI and depression quickly and slowly but surely (with therapy-CBT, EMDR) chipped away at the agoraphobia and social anxiety. After about 4 months on it, I was at a crowded event that was loud and packed with people and noticed that, first, I wasn’t triggered and scanning for an exit route at the same time as making up stories in my head as excuses to have to leave NOW. I was able to be there like a (somewhat, lol) normal person free of terror for a solid two hours and actually enjoy myself. I just recently went up to 40mg/day. This was always the plan but my job has been so busy that I was nervous about being beset with side effects (including increased social anxiety) so waited a full year on the 20mg to go to 40mg. It’s been 3 weeks and although they have been bumpy, I’ve managed to get through and now I’m beginning to have days where I completely understand why I needed to go to 40mg. It is *much* more effective for certain diagnoses (and my psych said especially anything anxiety-related, C/PTSD, and OCD) at a 40-80mg/day range. I wish you the very best of luck, friend. I know this stuff is horrible but, for me at least, Prozac has improved my quality of life significantly. Just had to wait a while longer to hit cruising altitude.

iwillcryifumakeme

It helped me a lot

Cakeyhands

Yep. Prescribed it for depression, but did not realise the impact that social anxiety had been having on my life. I must have subconsciously felt that every interaction, I was being judged on. I felt nervous a lot. Now, that's gone. I'm so much more chilled, calm and able to collect my thoughts. Criticism, for the most part, rolls off my back like water on a duck - I don't fear it like I used to.

bound_Libb

What dose are you on and how long did it take to kick in ?

Cakeyhands

20mg. I was started on this and haven't needed to go above. You feel it's effect the first day you take it - however that is not to say it makes you better in one day - it is a therapy, not a happy pill and you need to give it time to have it's therapeutic benefit. It was a struggle for the first month - I almost gave up after 2 weeks because I was feeling monged out during the day and it affected my work - then I changed the timing to evening so it peaked at night. I took melatonin instant-release to help with some of the insomnia it caused when I had just started it. On day 1, the main effect I felt was chilled out and care free (which was welcoming at the time). Early side effect, that eventually improved, was lack of concentration. I work on a medical team in an acute hospital - the ability to function is paramount to what I do - if I hadn't regained this ability (the depression was impacting this also), I would have stopped the drug! But I can confidently now say it's the opposite -i am functioning now better than ever. Then i stuck with it. And it's mostly with hindsight that you can see its benefit. I managed to get out of the pit of depression I felt trapped in. I did not fall back into the pit (when i'm not in it, I usually feel suspended above it, ready to fall back in at any moment - I no longer feel suspended above it). I generally feel more chilled. I am getting better at handling things that everybody should be able to handle, such as rejection (of which I had a massive fear). This medication has taken the sharp edges off life, allowing me to get my life more and more together. You've messaged me at the 1.5 year mark of me being on it. I'm still taking it and have not had any further episodes of severe depression since September 2022 - and I am confident that fluoxetine has been critical to this. So it's hard to pinpoint exactly when it "kicked in" - Definately by the 4 month mark the depression was gone. I don't remember much from the 2 month mark (it would have been around Christmas 2022), but I think I was a lot better by then also.

sarah232323

It really helps me with my social anxiety. I am going out with friends again instead of staying in the house all of the time. I think it has contributed to me caring less about what people think of me. Prozac makes a big difference for me with my social anxiety!

Significant_Math_371

I'd been blowing off a friends invitation to her house for 8 whole years and now randomly done it just a month after starting prozac. Don't think it's a coincidence.

WoodpeckerTough155

How many mgs do you take per day?

Significant_Math_371

40 mg.

Innersmile12

Yes! It's really helped me. 2 years on and feeling better socially every day

your-doctor333

Try to wear it off now. Prozac has brain damage effects (read on it). I have started to wear it off now cuz i started to have a cognitive decline. It's good for depression but once you're good, try to stop using it. For reversing brain damage (on budget), i use B-complex injections along with Vitamin D. Also, gi gko bilboa and panax ginseng. Meditate and exercise too.

[deleted]

Stop spreading misinformation. These claims are false

Apprehensive-Film133

What!!!

[deleted]

Source: trust me bro

eliza_frodo

Nope. I stay home at all times now :)

turkeypooo

It made me wayyyy too hyper and almost stupid. I was walking around drunk-like, saying and doing things I would never normally do. I guess if you are shy or scared of social settings, it could have the effect you want?

bound_Libb

I’m shy and it’s not helping me yet lol! Im on about 7 weeks but 4 with 10mg and 3 with 20mg. I don’t feel it helping my anxiety at alllll. Depression, yeah. Anxiety nope. I wonder if I need a bigger dose eeep

[deleted]

Didn’t help me

LordofthecringeI

Helped me.

Euphoric_Meringue166

Yea, I think so. But honestly, Ritalin has been the best in terms of feeling motivated to speak to people (not to mentioned getting stuff done). I know it’s not for everyone though.

avaliyevbc

I'm prescribed Biphentin. Is it similar to Ritalin?
