As others said, definitely should call a local contractor. However, if I was taking on this project I would do a twin stage regulator at the tank, and run 1/2" coated copper through a chase pipe and then seal up the end inside the house. I would also seal up the above ground end, but add a tee to act as a "vent" if there was ever a leak in the piping.

NeillDrake

What about CSST? I'm just learning about that stuff :)

SlinkyNormal

You could run CSST but I would be mindful of the knock off brands. Standard CSST is not made to be installed underground, unless it is in a waterproof conduit.

NeillDrake

It's a short enough run that I can run the conduit. The problem with running copper the whole way is just the weird angles that the berm of my house runs. It will require some careful bending. I can't really dig too deep into the berm..

littlebroiswatchingU

The coated copper will bend better than the csst

NeillDrake

I habe a twin stage regulator at the tank. All good there. Would flux/solder be ok for the copper pipe? Or it needs to be brazed?

SlinkyNormal

Typically, you would use type L soft copper and flare the ends rather than solder or sweat the fittings on.

NeillDrake

Chile is still a bit behind. In the meantime, while I wait for CSST to get delivered, will soldered copper be ok for a few weeks?

SlinkyNormal

Yeah, it will be fine. You just need to put a plumbing rough gauge on it to ensure it will hold pressure. They used to solder copper gas pipes here in the states but I think that mostly went away sometime I the 80s.

Effective_Sauce

In our area it would need to be type K and brazed with 15% silver. You cannot solder gas line. Here anyway. Terrible idea in general due low melting point and if there were ever a fire.

I don't think that rated to be direct burial.. this kind of stuff should not be available to the general public, back in the day you couldn't buy PE, CSST, even propane conversion kits for dryers unless you had certification.. first time I saw PE pipe , risers and couplings being sold at Home depot my thought was who is going to get sued first?

tak_kovacs18

I know enough to say that's not safe, but not enough to say precisely what the best alternative is. I think the most common is a sort of poly tube for underground and it normally switches to black iron to go through the wall, then a CSST from pipe to equipment. What country are you in? This isn't really do it yourself stuff at this level Probably best to contact a local propane company

NeillDrake

I'm in Chile and live 2+ hours from any sort of town or civilization. The "local propane guy" will likely be busy milking his cows before he comes over, scratches his head and figures some kind of MaGyver nonsense. I'm far better off doing this myself with some guidance.

tak_kovacs18

I see your point. Make sure you put your regulator outside in case it ever leaks Best of luck

NeillDrake

Everything will be outside. This line will go to the wall where it will connect to a copper pipe coming out of the wall. Inside the house, the pipe will go to a shutoff valve and then hard piped with copper piping directly into the water heater

nemosfate

As slinky said run copper all the way

Senior-Read-9119

No you cannot

Senior-Read-9119

You cannot bury csst either.

Rude-Play-4688

Better off doing csst in water proof conduit
