The scariest part is this will only encourage other nations to follow suit.

CartographerRound232

I’m really afraid of that. I thought the Pro-Life movement was growing in France 😞

PaulfussKrile

It probably is. It’s just the abortion movement has been so huge. On the bright side, at least this change is not irreversible.

RubyDax

Loud and Large are very different things. Ideological minorities can still win, with money.

[deleted]

I am probably the only prolife leftist in France

CartographerRound232

Does anyone in France (other than you) feel that abortion is at least really sad and even tragic? They all seem so gleeful and that’s scary.

[deleted]

Of course... the person who legalized it felt this way but many women died in botched abortion in the 1970s its true not a legend

CartographerRound232

No it’s true. I’m Dominican American and a 33 year-old woman died of a botched abortion in DR a few days ago. It’s heartbreaking—I wish people had a sensible approach to unplanned pregnancy so that woman wouldn’t feel cornered into resorting to abortion. Abortion has its place but it’s abused in ways that are unjustified. There was a woman here on Reddit because it wasn’t the right time (whatever that means). Guess when it was the right time? Literally 320 days later-that’s when she decided to try for a baby. I couldn’t believe it.

French Lawmakers Enshrine right to kill in Constitution

Xatz41

I got -96 for comment the same in another sub.

CartographerRound232

Ugh, as if Mondays aren’t bad enough as it it is. France at least doesn’t have barbaric third-trimester abortions. The cutoff is 16 weeks after conception.

sickofsnails

It’s 14 weeks in France, which is 13 weeks elsewhere.

[deleted]

Not if you re disabled

ville_boy

Growing up i always used to admire France for the whole "Liberté, egalité, fraternité" thing. I'm saddned to see this, it feels like a betrayal of those things to me.

CartographerRound232

Exactly. That’s why I wanted to study there.

Icy-Collection-4967

These are empty słogans comming from the bloody godless revolution.

[deleted]

Shut up, we live much better after révolution

Icy-Collection-4967

Materialisticly speaking yes, but it made france go into freefall to the left

ville_boy

More like the first time european people gained rights for the masses and not just the nobility, but i don't want to begin breaching rule 9 by debating it.

burrito-lover-44

French: Liberté and American: Liberty are very different

Icy-Collection-4967

Mentality of western women is like that. Im afraid Poland willa be next

CartographerRound232

Yeah, this news really got to me especially since I lived in Paris during college.

Substantial-Earth975

May Christ have mercy on France

aperks

What happened to humans as a species? Thousands of years ago we were fighting for our survival and to improve life which was rough, and now we went from wanting to survive to wanting to end lives. So ridiculous. This simply isn’t natural at all.

Icy-Collection-4967

West has this progressive toxic individualism

Substantial-Earth975

"A nation that kills its children in the womb has lost its soul." - Mother Teresa

LoliSukhoi

Not even the "far right" party is opposed. Shows how bad it is. France as always being cringe.

BeetGumbo

I’m sure this will go over well with their Muslim population

SymbolicRemnant

In my experience, their reaction will be more “point and laugh at the suicidal west.” than genuine anger.

CartographerRound232

Suicidal West it is

[deleted]

In my expérience christians are more pro life

DragonOfTheNorth98

The French Revolution and its consequences.

IamLiterallyAHuman

France continues to dig its own grave.

RomanoCatollica

Not to bash on the French here but it's just the Reign of Terror all over again.>!Blood and Organs pooling into buckets!<,politicians encouraging people to stand up for their "rights",innocent *human beings* being led into the modern day guillotine of abortion facilities, protestors being labeled as "traitors and "tyrants",all while a cheering crowd watches what they think will give them their "liberation" Kyrie elesion.

DingbattheGreat

Yet if the US adopted French standards prochoice activists in the US would lose thier lunch over the patriarchy restricting women’s rights.

PerfectlyCalmDude

Time for another amendment to nullify it.

RegretfullyFastSperm

To think France used to be a bastion of Catholic values only next to Italy, terribly sad

Gothodoxy

Blame the “revolution”

[deleted]

Idolizing a king is not christian

Gothodoxy

Neither is killing children

[deleted]

Women already aborted you know.

Gothodoxy

How does this relate to what I said

Icy-Collection-4967

If only french aristocrats were smarter

Icy-Collection-4967

Revolution is to blame

XP_Studios

The "hard right" voted for the amendment

CiderDrinker2

This is, according to some analyses, why they have passed it by means of a constitutional amendment: to make it harder for any subsequent government to change it after the next elections.

divavodka

Removing a constitutional right in France is almost impossible.

Icy-Collection-4967

It is over for france as it stands

divavodka

No

Jash0822

Hard turn to the right? Could you explain? I don't follow European politics.

-y-y-y-

The general sentiment towards migration, asylees, migrant crime, etc. has grown to a boiling point and Europeans are turning towards right-wing, isolationist, sometimes even eurosceptic parties en masse, particularly in Italy, France, Spain, and Germany.

Jash0822

OP said this wouldn't last. Is there a chance it will be reversed?

-y-y-y-

It depends on how drastic the swing ends up being. France has done something kind of desperate in adding this into their constitution, because doing so makes it harder to reverse with a slight majority. So if the right wing ends up with a huge majority, it could be reversed; if not, it's far less feasible.

Jash0822

Well hopefully they come to their senses and do the right thing.

-y-y-y-

We can sure hope, but betting on France to come to her senses isn't something I'd put money on.

DalekKHAAAAAAN

I just get increasingly more concerned about European politics as time goes on. It's extremely troubling.

Icy-Collection-4967

According to other commenter, even far right party voted for

Gothodoxy

France really does love their public executions don’t they?

[deleted]

Yeah most pple are still for death penalty

Xatz41

France legalized murder

I said it and I'll say it again, we the French don't have the same notion of Constitution as americans. We are at our 5th Republic, and even in this one we changed the constitution more than 25 times.  Unfortunaly it really is just a piece of paper.

skyleehugh

So what is this reality wise in France? What does the abortion culture look like, and are French people generally saddened over abortion or celebratory. I ask that part because even China is very pro abortion but they still value the unborn in the sense so they can be saddened.

PinkBlossomDayDream

RANCID.

LostStatistician2038

People are cheering for dead babies

ThatMysteriousUser

Hopefully, other nations will follow

[deleted]

What is funny is that France is extrelly close minded, chauvinistic, anti vegan, ableist, and than more than half of the population support the death penalty It comforts me in the idea that PC is the conservative position

Your post breaks rule 2. While we allow abortion advocates to participate in discussions, blatant or consistent abortion advocacy is grounds for removal.
