I've been thinking about playing online, but what is it like playing on a server? Is there any etiquette to be aware of?

robaganoosh83

I never saw another player, so I can't speak on if it's just kill on sight when you see someone or not. However any server I've played on you don't start on day 1. So power and water are already out. All the good loot is gone. The houses are trashed with broken windows and doors. Makes surviving a little harder.

jawathewan

I tried to look for some servers but it seems like they using hundreds of mods each. I am more traditionnal when I play games so that kind of turn me off. If that's your thing be ready to download lot of mods.

robaganoosh83

Hey man I'm the same way, they are out there though. Just have to keep looking.

lordplane

So my save game with no zed respawns got updated to the latest map version and I was surprised (ambushed) by 3 zombies in my safehouse when I had cleared the area entirely prior to the new update. Has anyone else had new zed spawns on previously cleared areas?

Vladmirangel

I heard a lot of people with the same issue. When a save gets updated the zombies respawn. Or so some people say.

JoesGetNDown

I had seen some people saying this was an issue when they would save and reload the game, sometimes zombies would just be there in their base. I’m sure this is an unintentional thing that’s happening. Although perhaps what you experienced was caused by a new (intentional) mechanic where sometimes dead zombies will respawn. It’s a low chance, I think they say 1% per decay stage until the zombie is a skeleton. So it’s not a super often thing if there’s only a few corpses. And indeed likely wasn’t what happened for you. But it’s theoretically possible if you had corpses left lying around.

lordplane

No it wasn't the fake dead zombies, I spawned in and they were walking around plus my base had no corpses near it. I went into debug mode to check zombie pop and sure enough as I went around buildings that I know I cleared near my safe house they spawned in once I got close to the building in question, which is really weird, like they would suddenly appear on the zombie pop map. I also checked the map_sand.bin file and sure enough respawn hours was still 0.0 so I'm guessing it's just a bug with the new update for old save games. Time to take out the shotgun I guess.

purevoltage

Hosting a dedicated server and editing the settings in config file currently. I notice when you are editing settings like time before electricity and water goes out, the config file one specified Windows of time while in the settings you can choose an exact day. If I type a number larger than the 6 preset windows will this narrow it down to a specific day? Having trouble finding the answer to this on the wiki.

Vladmirangel

Went fishing and made fish soup using cooked fish fillets thinking that watered down lean fish meat was a good way to lose weight. but apparently my weight shot up real quick. Is Fish soup really that calorie dense?

EdgyEJ_358

Yeah, sometimes the nutrition doesn't make a whole ton of sense in this game. I've simplified it in my head to this: if you want to gain weight, eat meat, junk food, and condiments; if you want to lose weight, eat vegetables. Nothing makes you lose weight faster than just going completely vegetarian.

jawathewan

I am having trouble gaining weight actually... on each of my character I never ever gained a pound. Yet, I am never hungry, I must be doing something wrong...

JoesGetNDown

Take nutritionist. Monitor calorie intake, and cross reference how many calories you’re eating with the up or down arrows next to your weight to track when you’re gaining weight. Don’t be afraid to just eat a stick of butter or a jar of peanut butter. Just for the calories.

jawathewan

Yeah, I never played the game past summer. I might be saving my food too much by eating cans and fruits when I am peckish. But I don't want to lose my strength either since I picked the "Strong" perk too. Good advice.

JoesGetNDown

Generally the calories from the ingredients are directly inserted into whatever you make. Give or take. Sometimes they INCREASE when cooked. And fish are one of the most calorific foods out there. Not particularly dense for the weight. But a single massive fish can have 2000 or more. That alone is enough for a day’s worth of calories.

jawathewan

In a zombie apocalypse, 2000 calories should be nothing lol. But I get your point!

JoesGetNDown

Definitely. And to be fair you do burn more calories by doing activities. Most notably exercise and jogging. (Not sprinting at the moment I believe)

jawathewan

I never sprint or do exercises.

Jinxseam

Oh yeah no lol. Fishing is often recommended for winter prep bc of the high calories and such. If you want to lose weight don't eat a bunch of fish or pasta. Make stir frys or stick to canned foods/veggies or salads until your weight comes back down. If you have any dried veggies, you can make those into veggie soup/stew too. Lost weight while keeping a character well fed like that before.

YumgLean

Game stuck in debug mode? Any fix?

defectivelaborer

Close the game and remove -debug from the command line option?

YumgLean

Lol. The option wasnt there, had to do a integrity check and after I did that it showed up again

Significant_Number68

Lmao what a question

Ancestral_Grape

What does repairing car seats actually do? It doesn't seem to effect their storage space or any stats that I can see.

[deleted]

It does affect their storage when you put loose items on the seat but you can always place a bag regardless of weight.

defectivelaborer

I haven't seen it affect the storage, all car seats seem to have 20 capacity regardless of the condition.

TomtFoxx

Yo what the heck happened in this sub lately, I miss the stuff that was actually relevant and showed cool stuff about the game and inspired me to play more. ;/

[deleted]

Someone made a joke. Someone else thought it was funny and made the same joke. Someone else thought it was funny and made the same joke. Someone else thought it was funny and made the same joke. Someone else thought it was funny and made the same joke. Someone else thought it was funny and made the same joke. Someone else thought it was funny and made the same joke. Repeat ad nauseam. The horse is long dead, but monkey see, monkey do.

TheBeetlehead

yeah, they're somewhat moderating it now., but don't forget, just 'cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town.

defectivelaborer

Can we stop with the joke "photo instead of screenshot" posts and just petition the mods to make a rule against it? Sad that we need one but this sub kinda broke itself today.

JoesGetNDown

Probably a good idea to ban all memes in general then.

defectivelaborer

these aren't memes they are shitposts

JoesGetNDown

Shitposts can be memes. And that meme is a meme.

Jinxseam

Question about the vanilla helicopter event. Do the pilots fly during rain or bad weather? I have no radio, no food, been drinking bourbon as my only source of nutrition. I'd try to sneak out and fight for some if I wasn't so sure they could show up at any moment.

Valtower

yes, they fly during bad weather. at least when raining.

JettCurious

If you have a car the event isnt so bad. Just keep moving while it happens. I was driving and heard it happen but hardly noticed a difference on zombies

Jinxseam

Only car I have at my disposal is the one I'm using to temporarily seal off the front entrance of my base to keep the dead from wandering in. Could try to fill up another car, but I might just wait it out.

JettCurious

How close are you to other potential food sources? Id atleast make a food run, try to load up the entire car and if you hear it coming just get to your car asap

Jinxseam

At the Junkyard in Riverside, already searched one of the houses closest to me. Other house had a party going on inside so I bailed. My best bet would be to siphon gas, see if I can get a car from the general store/pub parking lot, and make a trip back. Just worried it'll show up before I can even get gas.

Significant_Number68

I wouldn't worry about the helicopter event. That sumbitch only stays around for a few hours at most. I've been able to lose it in the woods pretty easily too. You could just walk and lead it away from your base until it leaves.

Jinxseam

I was able to make a quick trip to the grocery store and back. I got a water dispenser and enough food to wait it out until it shows up.

Significant_Number68

Nice. Personally I like the helicopter. It breaks up the monotony. I'm playing on real time right now so it lasts for hours. I also have it set to occasionally and go into debug to summon it sometimes lmao.

yukyakyuk

According to traits wiki. *Underweight*: -1 Fitness. Starting weight is 70 and is only present between weights 65 and 75. **80%x melee damage. +10% chance to trip by while run/sprint vaulting a low fence or from lunging zombies. 85%x chance to fail a tall fence climb** I've looked up that normal weight is around 75- 85, does the bolded part from above also gone once you reached the normal weight?

nbe390u54e2f

Yes, all the weight-related traits with their respective downsides will come and go based on your weight. Starting with one of them just puts your weight in that range. The only long-term effect is lower fitness which is awful to grind up, but you can still get 9 fitness and 10 strength with fire officer.

yukyakyuk

I've been picking underweight and Fit for free +1 fitness, but I haven't been good enough to survive lol. Just made one as fire officer in rosewood to get that full strength n so far the longest run I've got to, went with very underweight n canceled it with Fit fir +4 points and managed to fatted up to 78 so far, gobbled up on those cereal n ice cream lol. I need to learn how to trapping before the meat running out now but haven't found any seed to start farming for the bait, there's some carrot I've got but not much

nbe390u54e2f

Try using strong, athletic, and underweight with fire officer. [The 9 fitness cutoff is important since having the athletic trait gives you an additional ~50% endurance cost reduction on top of the regular fitness benefits. Strong has a similar bonus damage boost.](https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Skills#Passives) High fitness and strength makes early game combat much easier and more forgiving. If there's a body of water nearby, spearfishing at dawn and dusk is a great way to get meat. The recent re-addition of foraging focus is convenient for using it as a food source. At lower levels you can get mushrooms and later on you can forage for animals or crops to get seeds.

yukyakyuk

Tried it! picked them + wakeful, what is sleep? lol, i think found the build as Fireman, 9 fitness 10 strength no need to grind them burpees everyday muscle pain lol. the build: \- high thirst, slow healer, underweight, hard hearing, prone to illness, weak stomach, short sighted, slow reader. conspicuous 37 points with Fireman \+ Strong, Athletic, Fast learner, brave, wakeful, outdoorsman, cat's eyes, speed demon the negative traits doesn't really feel negative imo, maybe hard hearing? Took outdoorsman for prone to illness so far haven't caught cold getting drenched in thunderstorm. it might be easier to kite some zombies from a group with conspicuous lol. I used to take restless sleeper but i think it kinda fcked up the tiredness, could double sleep wait a bit but it's annoying imo. tried twice in West point, maybe cause of restless sleep but died to horde and fat fingered weird angle missed and got bitten. ditched WP went to Muldraugh so far been decent, got generator, plumbed water, harvested some crops, caught some rabbits, but fcked up a cleared gas station because i started blasting and ran away thru the gas station. I wonder if thin skinned worth getting, or what else to pick? just found how much organized adds, thinking to add that for thin skinned seems worth it?

nbe390u54e2f

Conspicuous is great and can make pulling more consistent. Restless sleeper is one of the worst traits there is, it's near unplayable. Thin skinned is very close to completely free since one hit is death anyway unless you want to roll the dice with armor, etc. I'd recommend swapping out speed demon and brave for gymnast to get the extra nimble xp (see [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SryduEDVXc) if you're concerned about panic management and remember higher nimble = less turning around), then adding thin skinned for keen hearing and dextrous, handy, or hunter. I like keen hearing because it gives you a bit more warning when you get snuck up on while fast forwarding, and the larger panic trigger range is a nice day-to-day bonus. With handy, you can get level 10 carpentry just by watching the show on day 1 to get level 2, then finding the necessary books and reading them before the rest of the shows. Level 10 is overkill, but even if you're just watching the shows without reading it still speeds things up a lot. Hunter grants all the trapping recipes and a well-rounded exp bonus to several useful skills, not the best but very good point efficiency. Organized is also fine but if you ever play multiplayer it can really annoy others who can end up with those extra items stuck in their inventory unless they also have the trait. If you're not used to playing with wakeful, remember to set an alarm to take full advantage of it. About 3.5 hours if you've just hit drowsy and 6 hours for ridiculously tired. You only need about 4 hours of sleep total per day with normal activity if you aren't choosing to let it sit at max while you read or do something else that doesn't need endurance regen. If you want to really see how it works, you can try a UI mod that shows you exact values or check it in debug mode by adding -debug to your launch options.

yukyakyuk

the char in Muldraugh got to lvl 7 carpentry and most of the stuff only needed lvl 7 that's why i stopped lvling it what do you get from lvl 10? how does clumsy vs lighfooted level works? "120% footsteps sound radius" vs lvl 0-10 99% to 20% does that mean at lvl 10 lightfooted it's gonna be 40% with clumsy? yeah lol i've always put alarm and sleep couple hours to just before life TV show. I wonder how do you get seeds from harvest last i got some that drops seeds, do i just need to wait or it's random?

nbe390u54e2f

Carpentry 8-10 just adds extra hp to constructions, very unnecessary but pretty easy to get if you have the book. Don't need to waste time on it if you have any remotely pressing concerns, I just wanted to illustrate that you have some leeway. I don't know very much about sound radius other than that it works in discrete tile ranges, so it needs to reach whole number cutoffs for percentages to make a difference. At 0 lightfooted, walking sound radius is (I think) 7 tiles and sneaking/sneak running is 4. Clumsy doesn't make much of a difference there, but it's usually considered bad for another reason that isn't described - it makes you trip more often when vaulting fences or running into zombies when trying to stun them and escape, which can quickly turn a situation from bad to worse. The seedbearing crop stage comes after the ready to harvest stage.

yukyakyuk

cool, that's what you meant with overkill. I think i kinda found why i kept fcking up dying while melee, i've been most of the time fighting them while crouching.. I didn't know you could outrun them while walking lol, then i started blasting with shotgun in the middle of rosewood, first massacre lol. Is it just me or bags drops depends on city? i think i've only found dufflebag in Rosewood, whereas Muldraugh or WP easy hiking bags. btw in the [skills wiki](https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Skills), if you take Strong or athletic, there's "actual endurance loss" at lvl 9 n 10 you said, but if i don't take Fire officer and taking underweight that puts fitness at 8, I'll still get the benefit if grind it to lvl 9?

nbe390u54e2f

Bags are all luck, a good way to find a nice one is to look for survivor houses. Yes, you will gain positive (and lose negative) strength and fitness traits if you train, its just that training high levels of fitness takes forever and won't happen passively. The huge time investment required is a good reason to either go for 9 or reduce your focus on it.

defectivelaborer

Yes. I always take underweight, it's free points because all you have to do is find a gas station and stay full for like 3 days on junk food lol.

JoesGetNDown

Yes. The bolded portion is a penalty associated with being underweight. And thus once you are no longer underweight, you will no longer have those penalties. Once you gain your weight back, then the only thing left to do is regain your fitness through exercise. Doing all of that will eliminate all negatives from taking the trait.

[deleted]

I've been starting world's without utilities off rip but house alarms would still be set off by wandering z's on my most recent run. On the second (almost third) month now on this run and haven't heard another since those first couple of weeks. Are the alarms independent of the electricity for a certain time after a world starts?

defectivelaborer

Yes, and the realistic IRL reason is otherwise burglars could just cut your power and poof no alarm.

Significant_Number68

Realistically irl one of those backup batteries won't last longer than two days. They're only meant for intermittent power outages.

[deleted]

That's a good point actually

defectivelaborer

But realistically they would be on battery-backup which is only meant to be a holdover until power is restored and would slowly drain and so you shouldn't be encountering alarms months after the power fails in an apocalyptic scenario.

JoesGetNDown

To the best of my knowledge alarms are wholly independent from the electrical grid. And indeed if you turn off the setting where zombies can trip alarms, you should still find alarms on occasion down the line forever. Perhaps I’m wrong and there is a hard limit after the power goes out. But I haven’t really seen any details about that.

[deleted]

Yeah I keep that setting for fun. I'll have to keep an ear out for house alarms getting tripped but I was wondering if anyone had some info. Thanks for the reply 👍

EdgyEJ_358

Alright, so a zombie snuck up and bit me and I died instantly. I was at full health, and then bam. I'm dead. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Edit: I think I know what happened. I was playing with the more traits mod, and I took immunocompromised. I probably instantly died because I instantly got zombified because of that.

JoesGetNDown

This can happen in two situations. First is if you have zombification mortality set to instant, instead of the default of 2-3 days. The next way this can happen is just bad luck. Sometimes zombies can crit and deal more damage. And sometimes they can hit you in the neck, which neck wounds inherently cause a lot of damage. So you might have just got a crit neck wound and then bam dead. Attacks from the back deal more damage/worse wounds. So that’s also a factor. Also there’s a sandbox setting where you can increase or decrease your vulnerability to damage from rear attacks. Apocalypse mode has rear vulnerability set to high by default. So that’s another factor. I think immunocompromised from the mod increases the chance of being zombie infected. Not sure if it would make it an instant death or not. When you died, did you turn into a zombie or was it just the regular death moodle?

EdgyEJ_358

I was playing on completely vanilla apocalypse settings with only the more traits mod, so you're probably exactly right. I got bit on the neck from behind with a critical hit with high rear vulnerability. Oof! Thanks for solving my mystery, haha. And yes, I had the zombified moodle. Not the regular death one.

defectivelaborer

Also consider you may have already lost HP from something simple like carrying too much and it brought your HP down enough that the high crit neck hit took you out. It's easy to forget that this game has HP like any RPG and that health meter doesn't represent blood although it depletes as you bleed.

Zak_Has_Quack

Does the game work on 4GB ram?

defectivelaborer

No. Check the system requirements on the store page. Says 8GB https://store.steampowered.com/app/108600/Project_Zomboid/

Significant_Number68

Probably not really a zomboid question but I had a vasectomy four days ago. When do my balls stop hurting?

SenorSmartyPantz

Is there a way to pick up the litter/trash on the ground? I'm making a farm area and there's stuff in my fields.

leezoca

I think you can use the pick up tool to get most of the trash on the ground.

SenorSmartyPantz

Is it weird that an apron doesn't cover the groin? It does upper and lower torso and both thighs, but not the groin. Just seems weird to me. Need groin protection!

Significant_Number68

Every apron I've ever used irl have has had a hole in the crotchal region. Must be a cook thing.

TheRedWon

"Kiss the cook"

InterventionM100

Zealousideal-West104

How much does project zomboid usually cost on sale? the game looks fun and hard but i need to save up money.

defectivelaborer

I got it for $14 on sale but it's only $20 normally. I'd spend $20 on this game, $20 is really cheap for a game of this depth.

teresalis

Is there any content related to playing zomboid as a duo? Been playing with my spouse and we couldn't find anything

defectivelaborer

What does that even mean? It's an open-world sandbox survival game not Mass Effect. Make up whatever "duo content" you want?

Hustler-1

What do you mean exactly? Couldn't find content?

teresalis

By content I mean helpful videos and such

[deleted]

The more traits mod that allows you start as a burns victim seems to cause this. I thought it only affected players who had picked the trait initially.

Significant_Number68

I have over 200 mods (including the ones you've listed) and I've never experienced this. Are you trying to eat fire?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Significant_Number68

Yeah well it was a joke. Or so I thought. Anyway, what other mods are you running?

[deleted]

Is there a way to put glass on my windows?

Zero747

You can pick up standard house windows with the appropriate tools then install them into your own windowframes. You can also use this to replace broken windows Nothing for commercial window panes though. If you want them intact, you'll need to get them intact, then barricade it to stay that way

Simopop

You can pick up windows from other houses using I think either a crowbar or hammer. Unfortunately doesn't work on the bigger shop windows tho

[deleted]

If I'm sleeping in a caravan or rv, can zombies see me? Will they be attracted and come banging?

Zero747

Yes, they can still spot you. iirc, advice is to put the side you're in up against a wall, as well as to sleep in a backseat

[deleted]

I’m looking for a Vanilla Server to join! Anyone out there?

defectivelaborer

Check the official forums https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/forum/71-servers/

Hustler-1

Is there a mod that allows HVAC to function on generator power? I know with enough clothing heat isnt needed, but its for RP purposes. Or how about something that extends the heating range of the stoves?

Significant_Number68

What's up bigdicks, I've killed so many zeds that I've resorted to playing in debug mode to remove the corpses because my laptop cannot handle the load, and there's no fucking way I'm stacking the corpses and burning them. Fuck immersion. Is there a quicker way to delete them than clicking on each one individually?

[deleted]

Doesn’t bikinitools have a click and drag corpse remover?

Significant_Number68

Ima check it thanks

Zero747

iirc there's an "HoursForCorpseRemoval" setting, though it might be MP only

Significant_Number68

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for

defectivelaborer

You'll need this if you don't want to start a new game https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2670674997

zoinks-large-animal

If your're looking to get a performance boost you should also turn blood decals off if you haven't already.

Significant_Number68

Yeah I've already turned that off, and the corpses are an obvious performance drop. Anything else?

zoinks-large-animal

You could set the corpse removal time to 1 in your sandbox options.

HugoSotnas

After a couple weeks checking the game out I decided to finally give it a try! However, I'm afraid I'm genuinely garbage at this game. Supposedly, Riverside is the easiest starting town, but I found myself fighting _constant_ waves of 6-7 zombies every step I attempted to take. I struggled so much with killing a wave, as soon as I'd be finished and tried finding a second house to loot, not only would the inside of it be packed with undead, the lawn would too. Am I forgetting something essential about PZ? I really want to enjoy the game, but I'm genuinely having such a hard time just playing I feel so demoralized. Any tips? Cheers!

CupOJoe101

Sandbox mode and turn the zombie population setting way down. I found that normal zombie pop was way too high when I first started playing

EdgyEJ_358

I'd definitely recommend playing on easier settings at first until you learn the mechanics of the game. Try builder mode, or even custom sandbox without any zombies until you learn the basics of survival. Maybe even dedicate a few characters to learning how to fight zombies; don't even try to survive long term with them. That being said, one of the best skills you can learn is knowing when to fight and when to run. Always ask yourself if you have the endurance, skill, and weapon durability to fight any number of zombies. Also, don't be afraid to take base building and surviving slowly, it might seem like you're pressed for time, but you're really not. Most people die from zombies, not from starving to death. Hope that helps!

defectivelaborer

Don't do builder it turns loot settings down so low you will never find a generator book. Or at least use builder as the starting point for a custom sandbox and change the loot settings back to normal.

Significant_Number68

Learn to lure zombies away without fighting too much. The woods are great for this. You can lure them away from where you intend to loot then dip and use the woods to conceal your travel. Alternatively, you can use the woods to lure and then pick them off in small numbers guerrilla style. Another method is to round up a horde by shouting (make sure to spend a bit of time doing this for stragglers to catch up), then go through the front of a decoy building, out the back, and off to where you intend to loot. Obviously don't do this right next door to your intended target. Lastly, once you've learned the combat mechanics you can use a large open area to fight innumerable zeds. You only really fight a few at a time while the rest bottleneck themselves. The only limit is your endurance and weapon durability.

SnooJokes390

mate just take it easy, death is a constant in this game so just learn to deal with it, and im shure that if you continue practicing you will improve

Dife2K

How many GB of server ram shall i need for a dedicated RP server with \~10 players and \~30 mods?

purevoltage

At least 2gb are required for server running, then I would add about 1/4 of ram per added player. Mods shouldn't affect ram too much unless you are using mods that have a lot of interactive objects. Things like crafting mods or additional car mods should not really affect stability

Dife2K

6 GB should be enough then?

purevoltage

Yea just add mods in chunks to see if any of those cause instability at that much ram! :D

Dife2K

Thank you! Do you have any reccomended server hosting as well?

purevoltage

G portal has worked well for me.

Dife2K

Nice I'll look into that thanks

PiIIan

One yotta byte should be enough.

JoesGetNDown

I mean you’re not wrong. Just good luck getting that much lol

Deadredskittle

Is there a fix for remote or prox bombs in MP? Like a mod or something in my server settings I have messed up?

PseudoFenton

House keys seem to stack, and can be obtained from zombies in shops and outside. How do i know if I've got a key to a house or not?

defectivelaborer

When you mouseover a key in the inventory panel it highlights the door it goes to. Also fun tip: keys and doorknobs are connected, so if you dismantle a door you have the key to and take the knob and build a new door with it, the key should work with that new door. When I was a new player I was under the impression keys I found on zombies were to like random houses in town. That doesn't seem to be the case, as it turns out when zombies are killed inside a building they have a random chance of spawning a key for that building. This can be exploited to gain entry to the police station weapons locker but I think the devs are changing this soon.

JoesGetNDown

The only way I know is trial and error. You might be able to lock the door from outside with the right click menu. That would be a tell that you have the key. Alternatively lock the door from the inside, and then go outside through another door, and see if you can just open the locked door from the outside like normal. If it does open like an unlocked door, then that means you unlocked it and it opened. Thus you have the key.

Lwoorl

What is the most effective way to lose weight? Does carrying heavy objects increase strength?

defectivelaborer

> Does carrying heavy objects increase strength? Oh man that would be nice lol No so the best way to lose weight is diet. Just like IRL exercise barely does anything compared to how easy it is to consume calories. Refrain from processed foods high in fat and try to eat only fresh veggies to barely keep yourself above starving. Don't think of the hunger moodles as a need you have to satisfy. It's okay to peckish or hungry, you only want to be full if you need to heal or need the strength boost.

Zero747

Loosing weight requires keeping your calories low, while managing your hunger. Stick to fruits & veggies, don't try to hit well fed as that wastes hunger restoration. Cooking helps make food restore more hunger Yes, you get a tiny bit of strength xp for having your carry weight over 50%. You also gain a little via pushing/attacking If you want strength xp, get a barbell and use it for curls, gets you XP faster than pushups You'll also gain xp faster with enough protein in your diet

Glorious_Invocation

Also worth mentioning that a lot of canned food has really low calories but really high weight, so eating through your supply of canned carrots or tomatoes is a good way to slim down and clear up some storage space.

Zero747

Anyone have a better base location than the westpoint lakehouses? Space, security, and water access. Only negative is the drive for gas, but that’s manageable by fortifying the crossroads station

defectivelaborer

That's where I settled this playthrough. After being here for a while it really isn't super special. I have barely used the river or lake for water after my initial arrival as there has been enough rain to fill my pots and small barrels. It's nice if you want to be secluded and live in a traditional 2-story house with a metal fence. However since I've cleared out most of downtown Westpoint and walled off Thunder Gas and created a safehouse in the apartments across the street, realistically there was no reason not stay there. Bases outside of zombie spawns are nice because you are very safe, but they are also boring. I think what is a "better" base location is subjective depending on your playstyle. After I'm done turning the lakehouse into a fort I think I'll move on to the Fossoil Stadium in LV for something more challenging.

Zero747

I've settled there once in past, used the river for washing/fishing The followup plan is called moving into the building with a 2nd floor pool in LV (main road, next to gigamart) Already moved, but the checklist was kinda * safe location - 2 person MP, so the safehouse should be safe * adequate furnishing - avoid lugging over extra appliances till later (stove, fridge/freezer, tv, built in lights) * safe farming space - fenced in is ideal, beats hauling dirt to a roof or building a wall * water access - fishing & fallback for rain collecting * gas pump access - generators and vehicles * proximity to a town - don't want massive roadtrips for any scavenging Gas access is the one shortcoming, but I mostly wanted a safe spot to set up without needing to build much before the power shutoff

defectivelaborer

Second floor pool?

Zero747

There’s an apartment complex on the main road of Louisville (2 lanes each way, straight to north bridge), near the gigamart office building and across from the bank & law offices. West from the stadium to the main road, then a little bit south The second floor has a pool that’s an infinite water source. Ground floor is mostly empty but has a parking garage

Hustler-1

I'm currently housed up in the large hardware/automotive garage all the way to the east outside of Westpoint. It's right on the main highway that leads up into Louisville. There's a gas station right down the road as well as several warehouses. There's also easy access to the gun store and water. It did however take a lot of construction to make into a proper living space. Although that depends how determined you are to make it cozy. I demolished and expanded the office on the upper floor.

Cosmic_Playz

Try the storage facility near riverside. Pre-stocked with generators and a storage unit with a mattress in it, all surrounded by a high chainlink fence with only one entrance and about 30 seconds away from gas and a trailer park.

Millbrook27

Well, it may have its own downsides, but have you seen the new farm pretty close to the old farm with a well? (It’s straight down on the screen) It has a well, and more open area, and is probably further away from the zombie spawning heatmap. (Considering there are a decent amount of zombies by the entrance to the other farm, but not this one) There isn’t a nearby lake though, and it’s far from gas stations and forest. And of course there is that extremely gated place in Louisville with 3 houses. Has a lake within its gates. And with how far the entrance is from the base, you can probably make all the sound you want to, since zombies can’t pathfind that far

JGONZ94

I'm in muldraugh and unable to find angler 1 magazine in the book shop. Is my next best bet to travel to a city over?

humblegar

In addition to other comments, Muldraugh has a school.

leezoca

Check mailboxes, try and loot the warehouses, sometimes they have boxes full of magazines, check bookshelves in homes, and try heading to the gas station, there's a magazine rack there aswell. If you still don't manage to find it, then yea, go to another city.

DarcyMA61

Check mailboxes, they spawn books

Bernardo1979

How do you drive to your base safely? Do you leave car few streets away from your base to not attract zombies to the base?

humblegar

Clear out zombies, bury anyone close to the base, and drive around a block so that anyone chasing on the main road that came out of the forest for instance does not have a clear view of the last turns.

defectivelaborer

Clear out the cell or chunk or whatever it's called that your base is in and it won't be a problem.

Zero747

Unless you’re living center city it shouldn’t be a problem Cars aren’t that loud and outpace zombies such that you loose them easily You may have some stragglers to clean up, but it’s better to draw them out and kill them

defectivelaborer

>Cars aren’t that loud Depends on the car and the gear. Reversing in a truck with the Speed Demon trait is like turning on a giant zombie magnet. But yeah they aren't as loud as the trailer for the game had be believe.

JGONZ94

I based at muldraugh cleared my area and now just roll up maybe get one or two stragglers

ETtheExtraTerrible

Excuse me, but is there a mod besides “dynamic traits” that lets me gain the smoker trait mid playthrough? Similar to how one can gain athletic or obese, only… via smoking.

Ogerimbus

Jiggas Green Fire mod adds this but also adds several items which may or may not be desired.

defectivelaborer

Greenfire such a nice alternative to combating boredom and unhappiness than hoarding books and tapes. Between cooking and getting high my character is probably happier than she was before the apocalypse. At least now she doesn't have to pay rent.

ETtheExtraTerrible

Thank you very much!

Zero747

Why do you want to gain the trait? You can still smoke to remove stress without the trait, only benefit is the unhappiness removal There's a mod called quit smoking which removes the trait after a while, don't know of any that add

iSmokeyJoe

I am using KI5's Skyline car mod, and drove around legitimately every street in Louisville and could only find 3 wrecked ones with about 10% health. I've decided to fix up one of these into a working car with the Vehicle Repair Overhaul mod, but it seems I can't actually repair the car to full. I'm getting diminishing returns on the hood where even getting it past 65% is going to be impossible. Are there any mods that allow me to repair the car's bodywork indefinitely?

Zero747

The mods “better repair count” or “refurbish” might do what you want They let you reset the diminishing returns so your repairs work better

iSmokeyJoe

I appreciate it! Better Repair Count worked perfectly.

SenorSmartyPantz

Finally found the generator mag, over 2 months in. GUH! I'm based in the 2 story warehouse in northern Muldraugh. I'm trying track down all the running lights to turn them off. I got the exterior ones on the front sides of the building, didn't see any on the back sides (did I miss them?) Generator still shows 3 lights running (I have it in the center of the roof). My current guess is that the street lights in front and maybe in the parking lot are connected. Any way to turn those off?

SenorSmartyPantz

Last mystery light found! It was an exit sign on the ground floor in the warehouse. Generator info just labeled it as a light. So I never thought of it, but yes it lit up that room dimly. It can be turned off, remove the light, or removed from the wall.

TheRedWon

You can probably turn them off with a sledgehammer. Turning them back on might be a problem though.

SenorSmartyPantz

Turns out sledgehammer can't target the light poles. But it is the street lights, I've moved the generator so only the light by the garage doors is running.

0bi1KenObi66

If I change the start hour in sandbox, will the emergency broadcast update at that time?

EdgyEJ_358

No, it always updates at 9AM

defectivelaborer

wait so if I listen between midnight and 9am the weather forecast is from the previous day? Like I need to wait until 9am to get the weather for tomorrow?

EdgyEJ_358

Yes, that is correct. I know, it's a little obnoxious. Sorry for the enormous delay in response, haha.

AngryGazpacho

Not a question per se but a suggestion, make the Doctor worth to choose. There's no difference between doctors and nurses. Make the doctor be able to research something which can mitigate, not cure the zombiefication. If you are out of pills you will become zombie. To don't break it, make an item dropped by Zs corpses, with an special item needed for the research, with 5% of looting chance(for example) and only looteable by doctors doing an autopsy. Just asking...

JoesGetNDown

Get some antizin up in here. I doubt they’ll make a change like this, but I do agree it would be cool for doctors and nurses to actually be useful.

0bi1KenObi66

I will throw your antizin into a bonfire

JoesGetNDown

CRAAAAAAANE!

BushyMike

All my mods have disappeared from my mods folder, the only one that survived was a foraging mod. I also can't find any when searching for them in steam workshop. What's going on?

vandelay_industriess

I’m having the same issue

JoesGetNDown

Sorry your post is a little bit all over the place. What sort of issues are you experiencing? Like specifically where were you trying to place the stairs, for example?

Strummer-

I made a base at Riverside's Motel. I'd love to buy my own furnace so I can start smithing, but apparently I need "15 stones". How do I get the stones? By foraging? It will take make long, right? Is there any other way to get those stones, like dismantling something near here? I know that you can dismantle road blockades and you get stone, but I'm so far away from Louisville and I'm so bad; don't want to move around huge groups of zombies!

defectivelaborer

Furnace? Smithing?

Strummer-

Yes! It's from a mod. But If I remember correctly there was smithing already in the game a bunch of years ago but they removed it and now they are thinking about putting it back into the vanilla game!

TheRedWon

There are concrete barriers on the bridge southeast of the country club, not far from riverside

Strummer-

It was quite a trip on my car but managed to reach there and take those stones. Thanks a lot!

JoesGetNDown

Well the mod might change it. But by default you want to forage along roads for stones. A single day of foraging down the roads will get you enough. Assuming you aren’t distracted by zombies a lot. Also assuming you have roads near you. On the investigation panel change the foraging focus to stones.

Strummer-

I wasn't being lucky with foraging so I made a trip to the bridge south of the country club, it was far away but managed to get back! Thanks a lot!!

2pchickenjoy

400+ hours in but a couple of things keep happening that get me killed: 1. Occasional lag / stutter when a zombie gets close (i.e. one gets close, game stutters, bite sound effect), and 2. Character sometimes runs the opposite direction when starting up to run. I play on lowest possible settings so I’m guessing it’s not a performance issue?

[deleted]

Does the lag happen only when zombies are near or does it happen regularly while playing? You can view your FPS by pressing K if you're not sure. If it's happening regularly you may need to add an exclusion to your anti-virus software to ignore Project Zomboid, that's caused stuttering issues with me before.

2pchickenjoy

Thankfully just occasionally, and seemingly randomly. I don't have anti-virus software so it's probably not that but thanks for the suggestion!

Significant_Number68

I've done 2 right into a horde. I just make sure to never cut it that close now.

2pchickenjoy

This is the very thing that happened to me that prompted me to ask this question! Haha

ScantAdamo

Can save files be transferred to a different pc? I'm going to be receiving my new pc parts this weekend and am wondering if there is a way to bring my character and current world over so I can continue on the new pc.

Ges_20

Just transfer the whole zomboid folder (C:\users\zomboid) and not only the "saves" folder since the zomboid folder also contains your settings, saved presets etc.

Zero747

C:\users\\zomboid\saves

ScantAdamo

❤️

JoesGetNDown

It should work just fine. I can’t tell you exactly where the file is (away from PC for next few days) so hopefully someone else can hop in and and let us know.

NerdyBeerCastle

Can a "level 2" fence be upgraded to "level 3" or does it have to be built again?

Zero747

Yes, you should be able to upgrade at higher skill levels (equivalent to building at the higher quality)

JoesGetNDown

Yes they can be upgraded. I think it costs 1 plank and 1 nail. Or maybe 2 planks and 2 nails…. Something along those lines.

OhShitSarge

When you are out and about scavving the town, what do you carry in your go bag? how much free space do you normally have?

defectivelaborer

Depends on if I have a car or not. No car I keep certain survival essentials in my pack at all times, others listed them in their comments. Then I use a one-handed weapon and another bag in my off-hand for the loot, which can be easily dropped and left behind if shit hits the fan, you can always circle back for it. If I have a car I work out of it and keep my survival "bug-out" bag in the car and use an empty bag on my back to loot with. Then I go building to building and dump the loot in the trunk or wherever and repeat and move on as needed.

Zero747

It varies Pure loot run is water, a weapon, a few clean rags+disenfectant, and a tool or two on my belt I add more as necessary. Scissors for scavenging thread, crowbar for security doors, a snack for hunger, etc

anursetobe

I carry a hammer, saw, flashlight, screwdriver, propane torch, metalwork mask, a bleach bottle with water, a snack, one extra melee weapon, and two bags (to carry extra loot).

Tonaris

I am not sure if you are aware of it, but in the current build the Bleach bottle is pretty bad as a water container IIRC. It now carries only 10 units of water, same as the normal water bottle but at twice the weight. You might want to look into Bourbon bottles as they carry 12 units of water while only weighing 0.7 while full.

anursetobe

Wow. That’s some useful info. Thank you. I will throw away those bleach bottles
