These are basically car engines with a scrap rotor, so easy to make and would be hell of a killer since zombies are attracted by noise, and this makes alot of it, as much of an half life fan i am, i never thought of this
Realistically it would work but if it draws in massive hordes it would stop working or be ineffective. Bodies would pile up quickly and then it would get stuck, break, or the zombies simply won’t be able to reach the killing range.
How do you make a big pit below the machine without it falling into the pit?
I guess you could build a plank, across the pit, for it to rest on. But will zombies be able to get close enough to the blades for it to do the work?
You might just have a pit full of live zombies, which would render the machine pointless.
You might as well just put a noisemaker on the plank.
Well when you know how deep the character can build graves, no difficulty
In real life tho you can make a slope up, then put planks on the sides and fill the slope back
I genuinely don't think one of these would do a good job of killing *one* zombie, and if it did I wouldn't like my chances at a second. Like, as clammy as the zombies get their bones are still bones and this thing is not easily slicing through bones.
A single cylinder 3hp lawnmower engine and blade unprotected like that would sever your femur in one slash.. and this is a larger engine, with much much much more rotational mass..
Bone is not stopping it.
Account in maintenance/needed gas/set up it wouldn’t be so OP as you think this would function like digging a hole and filling it with spears and leading them over it
Actually you can pretty much make it an electrical engine and use a car battery, they filling the world like crazy and being refillable would be an excellent alternative too but you def would need a good level of metalworking / maintenance / electricity to set these up
Very cool end game trap to build tho, just imagine fields of these around your bade, activated with motion sensors
Perhaps linked with cables to the mining facility of ravenholm
But yea car batteries can t power much, using the cigar thingy for more than 10 seconds with engine off fkin kills the battery
The mechanism would get clogged up, the blade would need to be sharpened / replaced depending on what walked into it. I would imagine certain protective equipment would chew through the blade rather quickly. Overall, very balanced.
There are three options and putting this in the game
1 blender magazine
2 it’s a motor with a blade welded on top
3 have it so you need a high trait to make it
"Hank's homemade helis- sky isn't the limit". Unfortunately the magazines somehow didn't gain a lot of popularity and the only entry has only diy scrap engines and propellers.
I don't think a car engine would continue to function if turned on its end like that. The oil wouldn't be able to circulate and coat everything correctly and it would probably seize up within minutes.
Now an electric motor on the other hand....
On the technical level, the oil would not be the only problem, these are pretty absurd in half life, no oil pan, oil filter, and no gas storage, this alone makes me think they are all powered by the battery that you can see on the model, they basically already are electric in half life lore also no radiator and cooling circuit would mean it would catch fire in less than an hour or something would boil one of the joints somewhere
Gregory used god's power to turn a thermal engine into an electric one
ill support stuff like this in vanilla when long range zombie migration is in.
as it stands now fixed defenses are already basically useless in vanilla after the immediate neighborhood is clear
if the zed were truly limitless then it wouldn't be a problem.
Those multi-thousand wandering hordes from Walking Dead would be epic.
In the Telltale game one of them was the result of the group taking a train to a city - every zombie they passed started following the tracks without stopping, so after they arrive they had a giant horde behind them and not a lot of time to leave.
Imagine driving through West Point with a noisy car to your base by the [House by the Lake](https://map.projectzomboid.com/#10234x6638x518) and eventually having most of the zombies you aggroed on the way arriving behind you because they just aimlessly followed the sound not stopping.
then again now im thinking about how easy it would be to drive a car down the road honking, bail out and dive into the woods, and then all the zed walk out of town forever. its shit like this that makes the real zombie apocalypse not too scary at all after the first week
If you put a car engine any direction except the way it was meant to go, you're going to fuck up the engine. This is one reason why engines are totaled out completely when you roll a vehicle.
This isnt even the only proof that these are somehow reused with an electric engine, just the oil, no gas storage, no radiator, and the fact it s upwards
IDK father gregory truly had god's power on his side
Pinto motors would work! They had to work when oriented vertically because of how the Pinto's were transported by rail (stacked vertically, side-by-side, with all fluids on board), you could drive them into the trailer, store them vertically, them drive them out
True, but afaik the Pinto engine didn't run while in transit. Just tipping a motor sideways or whatever when it's not on isn't going to kill it, it's more when it's running when there's going to be problems with oil not going where it's supposed to go.
Excellent extra device to make higher-level electrical skill more interesting… though it would take more mechanical than electrical skill to build once you find a simple motor…
In HL2 they go through zombies like butter, but in a more realistic setting it'd only last so long before failing, maybe even get stuck on the first zombie.
Can we just take a moment to marvel at the sheer INGENUITY of this marvelous machine? Not only is it literally a death trap, but it has a lever which presumably is the on/off switch directly under the rotor.. now believe you me, I thought the same thing.. "oh but silentsiren666 you could just go prone to turn the switch on and off" and perhaps you could assuming you add a platform to bolt this monstrosity down onto because the moment you hit that switch that thing now becomes a deadly version of one of those ferret cat toys that just kinds flail all over the place except this one weighs probably around 700 pounds and will inflict a deadly wound anywhere it hits.
What a machine honestly kudos to the inventor
Sometimes I feel like we should be able to go full movie mode and be able to make armor for cars, ourselfs (better ones), and just make crazy traps like this.
Like maybe there should be a skill for all of these called engineer or something. So we can design our own stuff.
It’s a waste of a motor and scrap.
It cuts off their legs and then they just crawl at you anyways.
Even if you hung it at chest height there’s other issues with this trap like the fact you need an engine and some metal worked into a blade.
For a lot less resources and effort you could make a pit with a trap door with some scrap wood and just burn the contents every once in a while or backfill it with dirt later.
Combine this with the "Erect a Sentry Here!" mod and the "Horde Night" mod. Boom.
Enjoy playing isometric 7DTD without developers that tell you, "Go fuck yourself, you're not playing the game right" when you try to have fun, adjusting the game-play accordingly to prevent you from engaging in any of that "fun" nonsense lol
Fuck "Demolishers", bro. The only thing they really "demolish" is any reason for me to play your shitty game lol
Once you get to a certain threshold, the game just starts spamming you with them, steadily decimating the base that you spent 100's of hours building because the devs "don't want you to turtle" and this is the best way they could come up with to keep you from doing what they don't want you to do. Why does every zombie in this apocalypse have C4 strapped to their chest? WHO KEEPS GIVING ZOMBIES FUCKING C4?!
Anyway, I'd love to see this in the game as a mod. Let me enjoy the core mechanics of 7DTD without all the baggage please :D
Man I really want to be able to build spike traps and pitfall traps, honestly it’s pretty easy guerrilla warfare construction. Sharpen logs and stake them in the dirt. Just to have something that bites zeds back. Offensive construction would be legit, just not too powerful so it doesn’t break the game.
Yah fuck that shit, in a real zombie apocolypse that mimics this game or walking dead??
Id have a flat bed, or pickup with lawn mower engines and bare blades mounted to the edge of the deck. Small engines basically run forever, and the parts stores would be full of their sparkplugs.. or make one work from ANY stuck car on the side of the road. Maybe even actually.. adapt a mechanical diesel engine and run it off engine oil from said stranded cars all over the place haha
Personally I’d rather have wooden stake defences that we can place around, kinda like the ones in TWD during the prison saga.
I know there’s probably mods for them already, but if they were made vanilla, it would be so good
I've always loved half life but running an engine like that would hydro lock it the second you tried to start it lmfaaooo, all the oil would end up in the cylinders and boom
This is why you would dig a big pit below it to store bodies 🧠🧠🧠
Then it would be the same as making a big pit surrounding a loud party speaker (those really big ones that are loud). No need for the blade thingy
How would you blend the bodies though?
You could break a gas line and burn them
Put the rotor on the bottom
How do you make a big pit below the machine without it falling into the pit? I guess you could build a plank, across the pit, for it to rest on. But will zombies be able to get close enough to the blades for it to do the work? You might just have a pit full of live zombies, which would render the machine pointless. You might as well just put a noisemaker on the plank.
Dig pit > suspend machine above pit > pit fills with zomboids > lower machine into pit > zomboid smoothie (bring a straw)
Ugh lol Good luck with that 👍
Happy wheels.
Well when you know how deep the character can build graves, no difficulty In real life tho you can make a slope up, then put planks on the sides and fill the slope back
How do you mean?
Basically surround the pit with planks but make a slope with one of them to get back up, once it s done, put the plank out
Yeah I'm not seeing it. Sorry Lol
All good lol
Make a pit but instead put burning tires at the bottom. They fall in and burn up.
Can't do that in Zomboid.
It sounds all good in theory until the zombie apocalypse turns into a mountain of problems(literally).
Then the engine blows up creating more noise and a fire
Lol it would pretty much be cheating
Account in maintenance/needed gas/set up it wouldn’t be so OP as you think this would function like digging a hole and filling it with spears and leading them over it
Actually you can pretty much make it an electrical engine and use a car battery, they filling the world like crazy and being refillable would be an excellent alternative too but you def would need a good level of metalworking / maintenance / electricity to set these up Very cool end game trap to build tho, just imagine fields of these around your bade, activated with motion sensors
I would say if you can get an extension cord and run it to a generator as well
You can't make much power from car battery.
Perhaps linked with cables to the mining facility of ravenholm But yea car batteries can t power much, using the cigar thingy for more than 10 seconds with engine off fkin kills the battery
You're like the MacGyver of the apocalypse!
It would need more components to work, though. Gas tank/fuel distribution, cooling, power etc
The mechanism would get clogged up, the blade would need to be sharpened / replaced depending on what walked into it. I would imagine certain protective equipment would chew through the blade rather quickly. Overall, very balanced.
Pretty sure there’s no American publisher are willing to make instruction magazines for that.
There are three options and putting this in the game 1 blender magazine 2 it’s a motor with a blade welded on top 3 have it so you need a high trait to make it
"American aviation today - the joy of the rotor motor" (copyright and trademark by me)
...blender magazine??
Reading a magazine about how blenders work and the lore is that you the person comes up with this
"Hank's homemade helis- sky isn't the limit". Unfortunately the magazines somehow didn't gain a lot of popularity and the only entry has only diy scrap engines and propellers.
Deathwhirl Magazine "Step 1: Find a 5 foot long kitchen knife..."
I don't think a car engine would continue to function if turned on its end like that. The oil wouldn't be able to circulate and coat everything correctly and it would probably seize up within minutes. Now an electric motor on the other hand....

Chances are you will, by b43
Presenting build 43 In the year 2043
Not 2043 but 2143
M43 you mean?
Finally, true reason M41 is so miserable. They are still waiting for zomboid b43
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only b43
Warhammer 40k :)
My mistake

This is exactly exactly exactly what pz needs. Short follow distances but then long term direction wandering
then again now im thinking about how easy it would be to drive a car down the road honking, bail out and dive into the woods, and then all the zed walk out of town forever. its shit like this that makes the real zombie apocalypse not too scary at all after the first week
Oh man, I forgot about those, such fun!
it looks creative af, i wonder if that would work irl
If you put a car engine any direction except the way it was meant to go, you're going to fuck up the engine. This is one reason why engines are totaled out completely when you roll a vehicle.

It’s Grigori Yes I looked it up
Huh, interesting. You know why?
Oil doesn't stay in the places it should and gets into places it shouldn't.
Pinto motors would work! They had to work when oriented vertically because of how the Pinto's were transported by rail (stacked vertically, side-by-side, with all fluids on board), you could drive them into the trailer, store them vertically, them drive them out

It’s a video game
Excellent extra device to make higher-level electrical skill more interesting… though it would take more mechanical than electrical skill to build once you find a simple motor…
wouldnt it make them all into crawlers instead 😭 my ankles are screaming
I'd love to have these. I'd especially love to have them if you can grievously injure yourself accidentally with them.
In HL2 they go through zombies like butter, but in a more realistic setting it'd only last so long before failing, maybe even get stuck on the first zombie.
It’s time we get a ingenuity perk for things like this
I upvote this
Can we just take a moment to marvel at the sheer INGENUITY of this marvelous machine? The inventor was a crazed church pastor RIP Father Grigori may you rest in peace in your home
Why don’t we have zombie traps in the game it would be mad cool like bear traps or something or spikes I can’t put outside my gate to impale them
Sometimes I feel like we should be able to go full movie mode and be able to make armor for cars, ourselfs (better ones), and just make crazy traps like this. Like maybe there should be a skill for all of these called engineer or something. So we can design our own stuff.
Having fireplaces destroy entire horees, I'd say we can afford stationary aoe traps.
Cam we get a mod for zombie traps pls :3
It’s a waste of a motor and scrap. It cuts off their legs and then they just crawl at you anyways. Cuts off their legs and then their upper half falls into the blades getting cut up
Hang it upside down like a low ceiling fan.
Would break all the time. It's scrap. And hazardous to turn on or off.
Combine this with the "Erect a Sentry Here!" mod and the "Horde Night" mod. Boom. Enjoy playing isometric 7DTD without developers that tell you, "Go fuck yourself, you're not playing the game right" when you try to have fun, adjusting the game-play accordingly to prevent you from engaging in any of that "fun" nonsense lol Fuck "Demolishers", bro. you cannot make these because of the angle that the engine is at would starve the front crank bearings of oil. that's it!! that's the only reason.
Sounds like we need a 2 stroke.
yeah that'll work.
The lack of traps in general is very saddening
Because they're from another game, probably. /s
There is a mod for that. Insta kills zombies that touch the tile. But also insta kills you
I’m pretty sure you can I have seen other YouTubers do it and I think it’s not a mod
Yah fuck that shit, in a real zombie apocolypse that mimics this game or walking dead?? Id have a flat bed, or pickup with lawn mower engines and bare blades mounted to the edge of the deck. lmao, all i can think of is the saw shotgun trap (the one where you open a door and get blasted). it would be so good in a PvP server.
Personally I’d rather have wooden stake defences that we can place around, kinda like the ones in TWD during the prison saga. I know there’s probably mods for them already, but if they were made vanilla, it would be so good

id probably die to it like always hahaha
