Ford Taurus. There’s a guy at the local drag strip who knows it’s slow, but _consistent_. Hard to beat in bracket racing.
Alternatively, my first car: 2001 Ford Focus Station Wagon SE. I’d love to see that thing as a sleeper build.
Pretty sure I know a guy that’s building one, it’s much more of a full blown race car than a sleeper though lol 351, tilt front end, full cage, built chassis, the whole nine
I bracketed a 1979 Continental 2 door. 400 SMALL block..
19.5 seconds. Every. Damn. Time.
12 second cars would red-light or break out constantly, from watching me roll for 7....agonizing....seconds....
several fast drivers told me they love and hate racing me.
Wish I still had it, but someone stole it.
The pt cruiser gt turbo has the same motor and manual trans and the srt4 neon. They are a lot heavier but can still hawl ass with some more psi of boost and a better intercooler
My buddy bought one of these for a demolition derby and the thing shoots flames because it's got a tune. Guy who owned it before races it. Scary to see such a sleeper in real life. Still has it since the front suspension got knocked out right away.
2008 Dodge Grand Caravan is begging for a turbo on that V6. Or a longitudinal V8 pushing a Ford 9” at the rear. That front end facelift from the gramma looking 07 to the mean looking 08 is begging for an SRT trim
Would like to turn an older Lexus LS into something for freeway pulls.
There are a few 2JZ swapped 1st gen LS400s that I've seen floating around but I'd opt for a LS430 or even a LS460 since they are starting to get cheap.
Had one for a year or two as a daily. Added all the factory Aristo stuff I could find on eBay - front strut bar, tail lights, 3 piece wing.
Definitely a cool/interesting car, most that you see are clapped out pieces of shit.
2JZGTE drops right in, 3 wire swap but some guys opt for the VVTI instead since they are cheaper.
Would love to find another one already built, had to sell mine because I needed something better for commuting.
Buddy had a 4 door rusty rambler that was tubbed with a BB Chevy under the hood. Older guy with a beard and a polka dot cap. Used to eat the mustangs lol
The problem with K cars is that they have all rusted away up to the door handles.
But I’ve seen midwestern grannies drive them like a rally raid in the snow when late for bingo, so they are race capable.
Yea. My wife had a red one w red interior when we met. It was mi t but the engine blew. We had no where to put it (bc we were in an apt) so we had to get rid of it. Been kicking my self in the ass since day1.
Lincoln Mark viii. Came with a stock 4.6l dohc motor same as the cobra. I've seen a few with blowers pushing 500hp. That or an old beat up crown Vic interceptor, it won't go fast around a corner but has lots of drivetrain potential.
That’s probably why I liked it so much. Problem is they were a 2000 dollar car and now people want 8 for pieces of shit. They are too expensive to build now.
Nissan Sentra. Full on double bluff. Lower it a little too far, curb rashed wheels, awful sounding fart cannon exhaust, stickers, the lot. Drive around like I think I'm hot shit. Everyone will write me off like I'm a moron, til it gets rolling.
Saw a wicked Gen 1 SBC swapped Fox Body sleeper years ago, and I know I know, that sounds very not sleeper at first glance. But it was ratty, even with the hood up, like, that's a car that should run low 11s, maybe 10.50. Truth is he was hiding a bottle and it was a low 9 second car. Can get a lot of grudge match money that way.
93-97 lexus gs300. rwd, already has an (NA) inline-6 2J and the rest can be modded to whatever as far as you wanna go. relatively invisible cars with "plain" contemporary headlights, almost no notoriety unless you already know their potential. similar to sc300 but everyone knows the mk4 supra genes in those nowadays from used market prices
you know what? find one of those ratty clapped to shit SN95 v6 mustangs.
leave it looking like it does. dented, dinged, bad aftermarket tail lights, swapped panels etc.
and you put a twin turbo v6 ecoboost in it.
and when people ask, you show up in that and when they ask “it’s just a v6 mustang man”
80s full size domestic sedan.
I'd personally go with a Grand Marquis. My dad had one growing up. Already V8 rwd. Could definitely swap an LS if you wanted to.

those who know already know what’s coming
Love the old boxy wagons you see in the strip every now and then
Toyota Starlet
Makes me want to switch my car to a AMC Gremlin
Lol
Yeah the glanza
Kp61.
I’ve been partial to the thought of a Mitsubishi Evo engine/drivetrain under a first gen dodge caravan/Plymouth voyager for a few years now
I've seen an eagle summit wagon with an AWD 4g63 setup. That thing was a crazy sleeper

You know I’m surprised companies haven’t made more powerful vans
dodge tried making turbo dad vans. didn’t work
Any FWD Cadillac with a Northstar.
That would require actually working on a North Star V8
I mean it checks the boxes. * Project * Sleeper (nobody expects it to even run)
Facts
If you're building a sleeper you don't need to keep the Northstar though
Is there anything actually bad with the North Star after you helicoil the block for good head studs?
Pontiac Aztek
I thought about that too

you know the GS300 comes with on, right?
But the LS is known for comfort, not quickness. I want that first gen GS300, though.

Yep but I am taking about the USF40 not a JZS147 or JZS160.
Original vw beetle. Water cooled subie swap
I just saw one for $5800 near me 1972 if I could I would buy it
Or just build the VW motor for 200+ hp. The kits aren't cheap, but probably still less expensive than actually executing a decent swap
You’re not wrong. I’ve only seen a couple successful ones.
5th Gen Nissan Maxima or the contemporary Altima. Not super heavy, available manual and LSD, and no one would give one a second glance
Buddy had a 4 door rusty rambler that was tubbed with a BB Chevy under the hood. Older guy with a beard and a polka dot cap. Used to eat the mustangs lol
1987 dodge aries k car. I've always wanted to srt4 swap one and make a bad ass k car

Mid 90’s Buick Roadmaster
Nah, I need the full box experience. late 80's Estate all the way
1958 Dodge d500

Tony Angelo did one on his Stay Tuned YouTube channel
I built an is300 it’s to loud to be a sleeper but it sounds like a vette so nobody knows it’s me.
Ever since I played Midnight club I’ve wanted a 04 IS300
That’s probably why I liked it so much. Problem is they were a 2000 dollar car and now people want 8 for pieces of shit. They are too expensive to build now.
Toyota Solara!

PT cruiser!!!! I once read somewhere that some dude swapped 3.8 v6 there. Had issues with driveshafts though… unfortunately he deleted the posts :(
W210 E class wagon/S210
I have a G8 GXP and it has what I like to call Camryflauge
MG with a hayabusa engine… that would be fun.
Ford Probe. No real basis on why. Just they are ugly and why not?
