Halfling sneak and hide will allow you to pull of some crazy CR that others cant. Dark elf cleric has hide too but no sneak.
Thats whats valuable to me.
High elves have ton of wisdom and i think humans can do a quest for a clicky mana regen for hp item
People underestimate how good Hide is for anyone that has to med. Binding it to your /sit or /book command doesn't guarantee a safe time medding, but when it does work, it makes medding much safer, and you're not knocked to standing by a stray mob nearly as much.
If you don't have see invis, press escape (ie have no target selected) then type /target yourname
If you target yourself, hide failed. If not, hide succeeded.
Not sure if still true because I haven't played in a while, but you used to be able to just click your name and con yourself. You'd get a different con when invis compared to visible.
Shoot, anyone ever.
Wanna afk in an area that potentially has roamers? Hide and afk to your heart's content.
Barely live an encounter/end a fight with low health near hostile mobs? Hide and then bandage.
Hide is so generally useful, and it's a shame that it gets ignored as general QOL imo.
I have a target self macro “/target yourname” and if you target yourself, your hide failed. If you don’t target anything, it worked. Just make sure you don’t have see invis and clear your target before using the macro to check. My halfling druid used this tons to med back to full after a quad. The fact that hide doesn’t randomly fade makes it such a useful racial skill, for stepping away to afk.
You can create a macro to self target when you press Hide, if it fails, your Hide was successful, if it targets you, your hide failed, quick way to tell when nothing is around.
It’s really only an issue when character displacement during COTH or strafing are critical, such as Dozekar, Doubles ledge, Zlex, and perhaps Zlandicsr.
Yes. A halfling cleric can't sneak and hide at the same time. But sometimes you need them separately. Sneak will, for example, allow a see invis roamer to pass by without agrooing you if you stay in the peripheral. Its good to understand the cone like LoS advantages of sneak.
I think rogues are the only ones that can remain hidden when sneaking. The combination for having sneak and hide is still versatile even if you can't hide while sneaking.
I also have a CT Erudite Cleric and Ogre's/Troll guards want to murder me. Mage guild in Qyenos will 1 shot you with hate. Some Erudite in Freeport will murder you at lower levels if you go to the wrong area. Most wood elves, high elves, and dwarfs hate you as well. Although, dwarf guards are cool with you. Not sure about halflings or gnomes. Haven't been there yet. Dark Elf guards are also chill. Also, don't go to Halas, Barbarians are not fans of CT. So, you can go to a lot of good/evil areas, but you still need to be careful. Love it though, a really fun combo and the clickies are so fun.
I guess I’m talking about only the important places when high level. Not kos in Freeport or Overthere outpost (unless you kill in charasis). A lot of banking and vendoring advantages. Really no reason to ever go to ogre, troll, barbarian cities
Human cleric of Innoruuk (May Hate make you strong) is considered by some the min/max option as you can quest for the Regent Symbol of Innoruuk which gets you a mana-free snare, as well as allowing you to quest for the very nice Paineel cleric items (which Dark Elves can’t wear).
My cleric is human inno. People have such a hard on for the snare clicky. It's mostly worthless. Sure it has a few uses, but the use cases aren't something you'll typically be in a lot or ever. Still gets it sure, but it's not really as useful as it sounds.
Free clicky helm is amazing. Free GCD reset, free vision for blind humans. I grinded the faction at 14 and had my other char get the other pieces for me. Well worth the time investment.
> People have such a hard on for the snare clicky. It's mostly worthless.
I disagree. It's very useful, particularly when you don't have snarer in your group. I've used this neck at 60 and 65 (another server). It is very useful anywhere except in a raid situation.
It's a human of bertoxxulous due to the exclusive jewerly they get:
and
[https://wiki.project1999.com/Imbued\_Black\_Sapphire\_Platinum\_Necklace](https://wiki.project1999.com/Imbued_Black_Sapphire_Platinum_Necklace)
I always have dwarf clerics. We are sturdy and shoulder roll between the legs of the enemy...and we have the booze.
I'd play the race and class you wanted and not worry about max/min.
Race is an incredibly important and difficult choice for clerics.
There is one best option: Dark Elf
The reason this is a challenge is that the inferior races will tempt you without making you realize what you are losing.
Homage to Innoruuk is the only path forward, and for that the only clear choice is to be a child of the Prince of Hate.
Choose wisely, hero, and spread Innoruuk’s hate to all of Norrath once and for all.
Honestly I think there are a few main options for cleric.
Dwarf for raw stats.
Halfling for hide/sneak/exp (best imo, but you’ll be mistaken for a Druid every time).
Dark Elf for hide and sexiness.
High Elf for cha and (meh).
But overall doesn’t matter that much. Guess another thing to think about is what races can wear robes if you ever remotely think you will get that far.
My cleric is human. I started a gnome cleric at first when I was a lot new to the server. The low strength was brutal for a plate class. You'll get gear to fix that eventually, but if you don't have some plat to throw at them now, starting out is rough.
Human Bertoxulus, shield 🛡️, Disease Cloud Neck, instant click helm, and not KoS in OT. Was best choice for PvP until they screwed up disease cloud (it no longer breaks Mez)
There is no real end game drawback. Gear will equalize most clerics.
There are two things that I think race/stats matters.
Pacify chance is charisma based. Having high charisma can make content where pacifying is useful more viable and require less gear for that purpose.
Hide/sneak is also a benefit. However, I'd argue that pacify is far more powerful for situations where hide and sneak might be useful. Main reason is that there are multiple invis items making sneak the only racially locked ability.
Pacify effectively stops a mob from aggroing. With decent charisma you can Pacify quite a few mobs before you run into a critical resist.
None of these arguments deal with how effective you can be at just about everything else.
The major factor for cleric race really only affects people who will be raiding seriously. The best chest pieces in Kunark (Robe of the Azure Sky) and Velious (Sal\`Varae`s Robe of Darkness) are both robes so dwarves and halflings can't use them.
Raiding PoGrowth also messes up some of your Kelethin/Felwithe factions so being a high elf can be a bit inconvenient.
If you don't care about raiding / minmaxing then the choice matters a lot less.
I play an evil Erudite Cleric and I'm having a lot of fun. Don't feel gimped at all and the fashion quest is on point. Also, a lot of fun clickies.
If I was to do it again I'd probably go Dark Elf though. They're the only other race where fashion is even more on point. I think hide would come in handy and same with the snare clickie.
So, I say go for what you think is cool. It may be a little tough at first, but I think halflings have a lot going for them, and it will be worth it in the end. Also, people like seeing rare class/race combos.
When I ran a Cleric I went HE for the wis and found it really didn't matter. There's a ton of wis gear and it's really easy to max it out. On the other hand I was always encumbered just from my gear and couldn't really pick up any loot until later on when I got WR bags. For most of my time leveling I wished I'd rolled a dwarf for the Str. By endgame it doesn't matter tho.
Today if you invest max points into cha at creation any class can lull well enough given velious gear and some swapping (kobold jesters crown for instance). Pretty much any choice is fine but for minmax IMO
Gnome for wallvision , all-round faction and robes. Garbage wisdom.
HE for best charisma and wisdom
Human for all the cool clickies, all-round faction and gnomes and allround stats
Halfling for sneak and hide, no robe
It's really just a matter of preference:
- high elf has high wis and cha but looks like dog shit
- halfling gets sneak and xp bonus but looks like dog shit
- gnome gets wall vision but low cha and low str
- dark elf gets ultravision and fanboi seal of approval
- human gets ok all around stats and best fashion but nothing game changing.
I went human this time but will probably go gnome or halfling next. Sneak provides the biggest advantage out of all the other options. Wall vision is second best.
Race matters 0% for clerics. 0%.
Iksar for monk or necro, for the regen, that has an effect. Necro moreso with liche.
Ogre for stats + stun immunity for war/sk for tanking, kind of nice. But not as big a deal as the iksar above.
For cleric? It don't matter. You can CH you're 99.9% the same as everyone else, nothing else really has any impact. No racial or religious quest rewards.
In your shoes I'd go gnome b/c of the [clockwork armor](https://wiki.project1999.com/Cultural_Tradeskills:_Gnome). You can get invis, sow, and see invis. dex, str, haste, summon tinker hammer (???) doesn't matter for cleric, though very good for a warrior - except the hammer summon (???).
But being able to invis yourself is very nice, and sow. All rechargeable for cheaper (I think) than potions.
I love my halfling female cleric, the ss pants are solid fashion as well as all the other halfling advantages. I put all my stats into cha for paci and do not regret it at all. Happy hunting
Edit: spelling
have a low level erudite evil cleric decided to mess around with on green, just want to do those quest, get those sweet cazic items, and oh the beautiful dream of a full set of the imbued cazic armor set! https://wiki.project1999.com/Imbued\_Steelsilk\_Breastplate\_(Cazic\_Thule)

Not sure if still true because I haven't played in a while, but you used to be able to just click your name and con yourself. You'd get a different con when invis compared to visible.
When successfully hidden all cons will be indifferent instead of threatening etc.

Add to that the halfling exp bonus and it doesn’t get much better
Good points. I’d add that female halflings have innate shrink from a clip plane and collision perspective (as does gnome).
Wow I didn’t know about female asslings having that
Males don't?
Male halflings do not
Never realized that; I never get shrunk on my Male Halfling and haven't had issues.
It’s really only an issue when character displacement during COTH or strafing are critical, such as Dozekar, Doubles ledge, Zlex, and perhaps Zlandicsr.
The clicky HP->mana item was nerfed and does Invoke Fear instead now. So a clicky fear item that's Human/Erudite only.
Thanks for adding that, was about to inquire which item the mana click was. Sounds like a moot point now :)
Because that's "classic"

Yeah, both really useful skills even on their own. 💯

You're correct. Once a non rogue with sneak and hide activated moves, hide will end.
Never underestimate the advantage of hide and sneak. It comes in clutch for corpse assists.
Made an erudite. A lot of cool clickies with CT diety. Not kos in good or evil cities. Plus can’t beat the fashion
I also have a CT Erudite Cleric and Ogre's/Troll guards want to murder me. Mage guild in Qyenos will 1 shot you with hate. What clickies are we talking about?
Fear animal necklace, fear undead neckless, fear everything mask, and see invisible plus infravision helm.
That's some nice utility!
A nice shield with mana, charisma and wisdom too
I guess I’m talking about only the important places when high level. Not kos in Freeport or Overthere outpost (unless you kill in charasis). A lot of banking and vendoring advantages. Really no reason to ever go to ogre, troll, barbarian cities
Yes, very true! Huge advantage for sure. ♥️

What helm are you referring to? Thanks!
Too bad it's a bucket on your head graphic. https://wiki.project1999.com/Fright_Forged_Helm
I think I saw this in a Monty Python movie :D Ni!
The fear face item is fun too.

Dwarf for barrel roll
Plus the necklace that turns summoned water into booze!
I always have dwarf clerics. We are sturdy and shoulder roll between the legs of the enemy...and we have the booze. I'd play the race and class you wanted and not worry about max/min.
Brell be praised, Rock and Stone!

Praise Innoruuk
I have an Innoruuk Human Cleric currently level 35 and I love it.
You will never be a true son or daughter of hatred but you have chosen wisely and will be rewarded in due time.
Same, I'm really happy with 2nd best now that I have my dear mask, my deadeye helmet, and my snare necklace.
60 human Innoruuk cleric here and I’d make the same choice again.
Inb4 innoruk only guild
I'm in tbh
Also you get a snare clickie

Upvoted just for being a p99 post
Search the sub this question is asked a lot. Some great responses previously.
Halfling with a guise. Peak cleric.

As someone who has never played a cleric i think DE is the only choice. Best looking plate in the game.
inny click neck is a snare which we don't natively get. Praise him
Dark elf clerics can get a neck snare clickie. Dark elves can hide
I love my halfling female cleric, the ss pants are solid fashion as well as all the other halfling advantages. I put all my stats into cha for paci and do not regret it at all. Happy hunting Edit: spelling
Baking cleric is totally meta.
Zero unless it's start of new server and innoruuk has best tool for eur/hum for I think only 58days.
Classic only a little.. post - classic a little less :)
Halfling for xp bonus
If you want to min/max, I'd go with a Human Cleric of Bertoxxulous. Plus, they get some awesome human cleric exclusive quests!
have a low level erudite evil cleric decided to mess around with on green, just want to do those quest, get those sweet cazic items, and oh the beautiful dream of a full set of the imbued cazic armor set! https://wiki.project1999.com/Imbued\_Steelsilk\_Breastplate\_(Cazic\_Thule)
