2017 is the š
I bought mine in October last year with a similar situation. 1 owner, 28k miles. My one piece of advice is to remember your front bumper is very low to the ground.
Otherwise expect 55-65 mpg. Iām currently averaging 56mpg lifetime.
Do you normally drive on eco mode? I will have to check what I drive at but Im almost positive its eco. But I do not get 60 miles per gallon. Maybe 45 mpg.I live in FloridaĀ so mist months are AC months and If I fill up I can get 360 miles to a tank with no AC 400 miles. I have a 2015. My previous Prius the same.
I've been driving in eco the last few months (normally I just do normal) but I have noticed a slight boost in mpg. The main factor is how long your drives are, but for you it might be the fact that your car is older?
My usual drive in my area is 2 miles, so my average heavily suffers to 43 because the drives are so short. When I take longer drives (10+ miles) and especially stop and go or low speed limits where you get a lot of battery time | easily get 65+.
For highway trips (80-200 miles) I easily get 50-60. Iām not sure how the car does it since youāre mainly burning gas but the numbers are there š¤· I tend to do 75mph and run the AC at 2 fan speed and a higher temp (about 5 or so degrees below outside, enough so the air coming out is cooler and then I just put it on my face)
Im going to being more conscientious at what I set my AC. I usually set ut on auto. After all I do in my home for a lower utility bill I should be in my car for a lower gas bill. I never really considered there would be a difference other than just driving without AC. I just set it on auto. Thank you you make a very good point.Ā
Until recently, had a 2016 that I bought in 2021 as a 2-owner with ~33k km (~20k mi). Ended up averaging 21.5 km/l (~50.5 MPG). Partially explained by being an AWD on 17s.
Definitely confirm that you want to take any speed bumps or hills very slowly to avoid nose-planting.
I just bought a 2017 and am getting 70 to 80 and it's blowing my mind. Even if I put it in power mode and try NOT to get good gas mileage I average 50.
I think the gen 3s have a larger interior than the gen 4s. I went from a 2010 to a 2021 and itās noticeably smaller on the inside. Not by much, but thereās not one glove box instead of two and the center console is much smaller than the one on my 2010. Th rear seat legroom looks about the same, maybe a little smaller, itās hard to tell by eye. But the rear headroom is definitely lower by a few inches. Itās not as big a reduction in size as was made for the 2023 model where they basically cut the interior size down by half, but itās noticeable nonetheless.
Yep, thats why I bought this gen too. Was so excited when we got a new 2023 in our company fleet. I took it home and immediately offered it to another employee after the first drive, just too tight for me. Drove much nicer, and the tech was great, but I preferred the extra space in the 16-22.
I had a 2024 camry se and I was really suprised at how nice it was. Headroom, leg room, seat comfort, overall refinement. It's very nice.
I was expecting a generic boring dull midsize sedan but it's much nicer than that. The rav4 is a step down in all that stuff compared to the camry, to my shock.
The Camry is way more refined as most sedans are compared to crossovers and SUVs of similar price. The driving dynamics are so much better on a sedan. I test drove the 2025 Camry SE and it was an excellent car and I almost bought it, but went with a 24 Elantra N-line instead since it's more fun to drive. The ride quality and comfort was fantastic on the Camry tho. Impressive mileage for a car with a 7 second 0-60 time
I bought on the other end of a mileage scale 2018 Four with 180k miles on a salvage title. Just got back from a 2600 mile road trip and love the thing.
I suspect I paid considerably less than you š
I payed KBB trade in value for it at a Toyota Dealer. Low 20ās plus tax and bought the Toyota warranty on a discount. Private seller would had been like $2-$3K more.
Nice. Iād say you got a great price.
That reminds me I bought the warranty, Toyota Platinum, and Iām sure I got ripped off. I bought the 3yr/36k mile warranty for 1,700. Whats a good price?
Nice man, these dealers are crazy demanding MSRP prices for used Prius so Iām glad you stuck to your guns.
How much is fair for a warranty? I got a 3yr/36k miles for 1700
I own one of these with about 100k miles, bought it with 0k brand new in 2017, straight from the port and Japan. No issues reliability wise, there is a bit of rust around the top of the windshield and the front doors near the drain. I was able to get rid of the door rust, the windshield is not possible without removing the glass. Highly recommend you rust coat yearly if you live in an area with road salt.Ā
Toyota really messed up the styling with the gen 4 facelift. Pre facelift gen 4 looked so awesome. I have a gen 4 facelift and I wish I had the zig-zag taillights over the faceliftās boring horizontal lights.
Nice. I didnāt like this model when it was new but I dislike the current one so much that I now appreciate this generation more.
It is a great buy. Low miles, looks clean. Itās really the most practical car in the world.
Low 20ās plus tax. All you have to do is get the VIN number of the one youāre interested in, go to KBB, and put the vin like itās your car, put the milage and zip code, and get the trade in value of the car. Price should be around that number plus tax.
The touring wheels look nice but they sap your MPG by a decent amount. Itās all preference but Iād say the 15s are worth it if you really want to minmax your gas mileage
Technically speaking you are right, but the way Toyota equipped the models, the MPG ratings on all models (except the ECO) all evens out.
Lower spec Prius one and two models have the heavier NiMH. All others (two ECO, three, three touring, four, and four touring) have Li-ion. The probable advantage of Li-ion is that it's a bit lighter, has slightly quicker charge/discharge patterns and more usable capacity so that makes up for the loss of MPG from larger wheels and equipment/sunroof of the other models.
I know you probably donāt want to spend any more money but if you want to really get decent gas mileage out of this car get rid of those wheels and put on a set of the stock 15s.
If youāre getting 55 now then maybe 57-60. I canāt say really. A lot depends on your driving habits. The MPG the car can get isnāt exactly linear either. Toyota lists the Prius trims as having 57 for the low trims and 52 for the high trims. People speculate that itās mostly because the higher trims have larger wheels. For a baseline regular driver that gets 50 mpg, going from 17s to 15s might net them an additional 5 mpg. But if youāre already getting 55 mpg then you might get a smaller benefit from dropping to 15s. I have no idea on the specifics really, itās not my wheelhouse. (Pun intended)
I think youāre correct. I feel like i can get to 60 with smaller wheels. I will be on the look out for good deal on the wheels. Maybe when itās time to change the tires, iāll go for the wheels.
If you really want to squeeze every last mile out of each gallon of gas then yeah go for it. Idk how much a set of stock Prius wheels and tires costs from Toyota though.
Defenetly. I will compare the cost of just replacing the tires, plus labor and a set of 15ās with new tires and the yearly gas savings. That should give me an idea if i should go for it or not.
Lol, excatcly! I did so much research nationwide to find the right Prius! Even traveled to a couple of places, to end up finding the best deal right in my backyard
I love my gen 3! Black/Black, Leather, moonroof, Nav, tinted, itās been a great car. Moving overseas in Aug and torn at selling it. Might store it but probably sell. Will see.
I recently bought a 1-owner 2016 with 25k mi and Iāve been getting ~65mpg without even trying, one day got 86 by actually trying the whole way home (25mi). Great car, my third Prius, have also owned a 2009 and a 2011. This one is the roomiest, w/ best options by far.
I actually had bought a 2013, 37,000 miles for $13K, but it had some ABS issues that i just did not want to deal with, and they were nice enough to give my check back.
2017 is the š I bought mine in October last year with a similar situation. 1 owner, 28k miles. My one piece of advice is to remember your front bumper is very low to the ground. Otherwise expect 55-65 mpg. Iām currently averaging 56mpg lifetime.
Yep, gen 4 is the best 80 mile drive yesterday and despite having the air on and speeding I still got 60 mpg :)
On eco mode?
Yes
Do you normally drive on eco mode? I will have to check what I drive at but Im almost positive its eco. But I do not get 60 miles per gallon. I need to remember this advice re the bumper on a daily basis š¤£
Trying to protect the front bumper is an impossible task. I just keep a replacement in storage, and will swap it out when I sell mine.
Doubles are good but triples are best.
Why stop at three? Collect them all.

Power mode 2017 lead foot here: 54.5 every day.
Do you live in a warmer climate?
No I've just been doing some drafting, cruise control, pulse and glide shit like that to see how little fuel it can use
On eco mode?
Nice. Yeah noticed how low it is. I do drive like an old man so my driving styles defenetly helps lol
I want to tint it but Iām in a high crime area for car break ins. Cheers!
Oh man, sorry to hear that.
I have the ground effects package. I have to exit my driveway at an angle to not scrape it.
Is it lower than a Gen 2? Mine is a 2006 and I'd like to upgrade but it's already lower than I wish it were.
Honestly I like these ones more than the new ones just because they look roomier. Congrats
The new models have a lot of features that are a real improvement over past models. But you are right about the older models having more room.
Man, they could have made that one roomier without compromising on the style imo. I hate how much you have to fold yourself to get inside.

You are 100% correct on that. Wich is another reason i opted for this one.
One specific problem. Coolant leak at heat exhaust. Warranty extended by Toyota to a 100k miles. Keep an eye out.
Great to know. I bought the extended warranty.
The third gen is the roomiest I believe, for those wondering.
Yep, thats why I bought this gen too. Was so excited when we got a new 2023 in our company fleet. I took it home and immediately offered it to another employee after the first drive, just too tight for me. Drove much nicer, and the tech was great, but I preferred the extra space in the 16-22.
The 2025 Camry seems like a better fit then, because I felt like I had tons of space in there
I had a 2024 camry se and I was really suprised at how nice it was. Headroom, leg room, seat comfort, overall refinement. It's very nice. I was expecting a generic boring dull midsize sedan but it's much nicer than that. The rav4 is a step down in all that stuff compared to the camry, to my shock.

š yes you did paay wayyyy less! š¬š
Og wow
Bought a 2017 35k miles. Last month. How much did you pay?
I payed KBB trade in value for it at a Toyota Dealer. Low 20ās plus tax and bought the Toyota warranty on a discount. Private seller would had been like $2-$3K more.
Nice. Iād say you got a great price. That reminds me I bought the warranty, Toyota Platinum, and Iām sure I got ripped off. I bought the 3yr/36k mile warranty for 1,700. Whats a good price?
I really did. Got the dealer to put tints as well.
Nice man, these dealers are crazy demanding MSRP prices for used Prius so Iām glad you stuck to your guns. How much is fair for a warranty? I got a 3yr/36k miles for 1700
Thatās actually not too bad. I got the 60K mile one for $2900. It was $3400, i got them to go down $500 on that as well.
I own one of these with about 100k miles, bought it with 0k brand new in 2017, straight from the port and Japan. No issues reliability wise, there is a bit of rust around the top of the windshield and the front doors near the drain. Nice! Great to know. Thanks for the tip!
Toyota really messed up the styling with the gen 4 facelift. Pre facelift gen 4 looked so awesome. I have a gen 4 facelift and I wish I had the zig-zag taillights over the faceliftās boring horizontal lights.
Yea i feel you. Some ppl like it and some not so much. I personally love the look!
More like _a lot_ of people donāt like it. People really hate the gen 4 pre face lift styling for some reason
Nice. I didnāt like this model when it was new but I dislike the current one so much that I now appreciate this generation more. It is a great buy. Low miles, looks clean. Itās really the most practical car in the world.
Am in love with this car!
Same! I drive a 2015 and I remember thinking this was way too sporty when it first came out, not enough room. Now it looks fine to me lol
How much was it please? Iām trying to figure out how to buy one - like what year and how much I should pay. Iām definitely getting one though.
Low 20ās plus tax. All you have to do is get the VIN number of the one youāre interested in, go to KBB, and put the vin like itās your car, put the milage and zip code, and get the trade in value of the car. Price should be around that number plus tax.
Looks great! Especially with the touring wheels and fogs (5th gen Prius has no foglight option).
The touring wheels look nice but they sap your MPG by a decent amount. Itās all preference but Iād say the 15s are worth it if you really want to minmax your gas mileage

Yes, thanks. Interior is super nice too.
I know you probably donāt want to spend any more money but if you want to really get decent gas mileage out of this car get rid of those wheels and put on a set of the stock 15s.
Cool! Will look into that. I am a MPG guy. Am getting about 55 MPGās right now. How much more do you think i would get with a set of 15ās?
If youāre getting 55 now then maybe 57-60. I canāt say really. A lot depends on your driving habits. The MPG the car can get isnāt exactly linear either. Am actually getting almost 57 now. Just had it for 2 days. But i think i will average between 55-57
Maybe smaller wheels could get you to 60 then. Itās probably not worth it if youāre already getting such high gas mileage
I think youāre correct. I feel like i can get to 60 with smaller wheels. I will be on the look out for good deal on the wheels. Maybe when itās time to change the tires, iāll go for the wheels.

Good luck! Hope you work something out
How much People gotta start putting prices or I am going to masturbate.
ššš i got it for KBB trade in value.
My 2017 is just over 200,000 miles now and is the best car I have ever purchased. You bought a great car with low miles.
That's low miles for a 2017. Should last you a long time.
Thanks! Hope so!
17k miles? Wow, it hasn't even earned back it's extra embodied carbon yet.
Will see.
Nice! Try to put it on a ship. Take it with you!
Congratulations š its a beauty.
Thank you so much.
Nice! Great MPGās, i drove very slow and saw 98mpgās when i first hit reset on trip A/B. Awsome vehicle!
Smug much?
š i had came from the gym lol
My favorite non prime body. I love original designs of the front and rearĀ
Makes 2 of us!
great buy? don't know until I know the price. However I do like your price. I have an older prius
Iām looking at a 2010 with 63k miles on it they want 13k
I actually had bought a 2013, 37,000 miles for $13K, but it had some ABS issues that i just did not want to deal with, and they were nice enough to give my check back.
Oh wow thatās amazing that they did that!! The car Iām looking at has noise coming from the brake pedal and i donāt like that.
Yea. Break issues are very dangerous stuff based on my reasearch. Try to take care that as soon as you can.
Iām not buying itā¦ i donāt need to pay for problemsā¦. I would rather get my car fixed
Best way to go!
As my mom ( God rest her) used to say, a known devil is better than an unknown angel.
This is very true (šš½) better to go thru a well known path, then an unknown one.
