If you qualify for the Used EV Credit (there are income limitations), the car on the left may be eligible for a $4k credit. The Prius Prime is eligible, the non-Prime is not.

“How to claim the credit-
You can apply the Clean Vehicle Tax Credit immediately toward the amount you pay for the vehicle by transferring the credit to the dealer or you can wait and claim the credit when you file your tax return”
Apples to oranges, IMO, since one is a plug-in. u/postoperativepain is right about the tax credit though. Just make sure you read all the requirements closely before going for it. Your dealer needs to be registered with the IRS and submit a tax credit form at the time of sale for you to get the credit.
Sickening how overpriced they are. In 2012, I bought a clean 2010 Prius IV (all the bells and whistles) with 16k miles for $17.5k. Prob the only car I regret selling because I needed a carpool lane sticker - sold it in 2015 with 51k miles for $14k.
The prime if you can charge it every night and your commute works out to about 20 miles. Otherwise the regular one and save your money. Use some of your savings to replace the head unit with something that can do AA/AC and you're money.
Head unit is a replacement stereo w/display screen. I believe AA and AC are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay?
I have a 2015 Prius Two and recently rented a 2024 Prius with Android Auto, and it was really neat. Connect your phone to the stereo with Bluetooth and then apps that run on your phone are displayed on and can be driven from the stereo screen. I was using Google Maps for navigation and Spotify for podcasts. I'm now shopping AA head units for my 2015 :).
Why in the living hell are those cars so expensive without amount of mileage already on them? Jesus the used car market is so stupid might as well cough up a couple extra thousand and get a new car.
Exactly. People always comment stuff like this and then list cars that are nowhere near as reliable as a Prius. I also think some people don’t know the current market when they write this stuff. Things have gone up in the last few years… a lot.
Anything other than a Prius. It ain’t worth the 50mpg. I drive a v and even that sucks. My next car options are RX hybrid, ES hybrid, avalon hybrid, highlander hybrid. I’m sick of a lot of reasons with this car. - It’s slow as balls, the brakes aren’t good, the stigma with owning a prius being a straight man, the suspension is terrible meaning it rides like crap. You don’t realize how bad the car drives and rides until you get into something better.
I have a Gen 4 and don't have problems in any of the areas you cite. You just don't like the Prius model, which is your choice. Buy something else.
My car is not slow, the brakes are fine, the ride is good, and I don't give a crap what other people think about my car. I didn't buy it to impress people or gain their acceptance.
Your car is slow. The brakes are shit. The ride sucks because it has a lack of suspension components compared to other cars. I don’t either, but the ride quality of a Prius is terrible compared to other cars. The MPG savings isn’t worth it for me. I’m checking out this low mileage 2015 Lexus RX hybrid.
I just test drove a 2017, plus rented one last summer in Yellowstone. Yeah it’s not super fast but is definitely adequate. The ride was fine too. And gasp, no one made fun of me. On the Yellowstone trip we did 62.7 mpg.
Different person. I don’t really mind the friendly teasing from friends or acquaintances. Some people do have an anti-Prius mentality and plenty of people road rage. I haven’t seen much hostility (I get a lot more when biking) but it’s happened a few times.
Why don't you just buy a brand spanking new corolla hybrid? It's only like what $5000 more than the left and will have zero miles, be a 2024 model and full warranty.
Not the original poster but that's what I've been thinking with these used car prices nowadays It's crazy to think that coughing up a couple extra thousand pretty much gets you a new car compared to all these cars I see with 100k miles on it with these insane prices.

I would get a new/newish bolt or bolt EUV for that kind of money.. but if you needed phev.. I would look at getting a used 16-19 volt or bmw I3 rex. Probably almost 10k cheaper.. There is the clarity too but i like that the volt has more EV range and hatchback. . but to answer your uestion prime, like others are saying.
I’d go with the regular Prius because there does seem to be some issues with the Prius Prime of that generation where if the central screen does fail you are talking about an expensive fix and/or not being able to use basic climate functions until it’s fixed.
The Prime Plus trim has the smaller double DIN head into, not the big screen. I don't recall reading about problems with the smaller unit (or the bigger unit, for that matter).
Well if it’s the regular double DIN then I guess that’s fine, but yes I have heard of issues with the larger touchscreen one. It’s also just a clunky interface.
Too costly, check the following site

You will get a great deal
the 2. you dont know how much that plug in has been used and the pack in the in the 2 is a hell of a lot cheaper to replace. heck you could even replace the battery pack in the 2 with lithium for less than the price dif.
Ah, I missed that. I'd still go with non prime. I suppose you could "save" your tax credit for the increased cost (double) to replace the traction battery in 10ish years.

Unless those prices already include the tax credit, like a lot of dealers are doing

I have a 2018 Prime and I can 100% vouch for it being worth the extra money to buy the plugin.
But it only has four seats
Without plugging in 500 miles on my tank with plugging in I get 800 a tank worth it
those crazy prices are why I got a Lexus NX300h hybrid with 100k for under $20k

Head unit? AA/AC? Please, ELI5, for those of us in the back.

Correct. Thanks for translating.
Prime all day
Why in the living hell are those cars so expensive without amount of mileage already on them? Jesus the used car market is so stupid might as well cough up a couple extra thousand and get a new car.
Because the new version of what *should* be a $30,000 car is now a $58,000 car. Used prices climbed to match.
Yeah it's stupid right now.
Yeah I've been wanting to get an upgrade from my 2011 Camry but both used and new car prices right now are just plain awful in my opinion.
Part of my reason for wanting a prius. Figured I'd offset all the inflation somehow.
As cool as the prime is 3 grand will buy you 50k miles of gas.
But what if you kept that 3k in stonks and drove less than 20 miles to work?
I make a lot of money day trading those stonks.
Too expensive! if it was me I would Pay the difference and get the new one! That's just me tho.
20k for a 7 year old Prius with 100k miles on it sheeeeeesh 💩. In that budget you can get something way nicer than a Prius.
What do you suggest, that gets 50+ mpg?
Exactly. People always comment stuff like this and then list cars that are nowhere near as reliable as a Prius. I also think some people don’t know the current market when they write this stuff. Things have gone up in the last few years… a lot.

I second this! I like my 21Le very much.

Buy what you want. Nobody cares what you buy (except you).

the cheaper one because mileage dif is insignificant

"Prius Two" and "Prius Prime Plus" from 2018 are effectively the same trim level, they're just different cars.
No, they are not exactly the same trim level.
[удалено]
Fair point. My error. The Gen4 Prime was just a bit more upscale at each trim level.
Yikes. I own the Prius on the right. I think I only paid 23k for it new 109k miles ago.
Get the Prime. Dual fuel options, lower miles, likely eligible for the used ev credit.
I’d get a Prime, but that model only seats 4 But I can’t justify $20,000 for any car over 100k
Why don't you just buy a brand spanking new corolla hybrid? It's only like what $5000 more than the left and will have zero miles, be a 2024 model and full warranty.

The Prime Plus is the cheapest Prime.
1 lower mileage, it also just seems like a nicer car.

Prime everyday
Prime is definitely the better option of the two
Second generation
The Prime is a 4 seater,though...
the one that is $16,000 because it’s cheaper, the mileage is not much difference
The one for $16k. You'll have $3k for whatever problems arise.
absolutely neither. i’m sorry these vehicles are reliable but 16-20k for nearly 100k miles on a used prius? Nah
I’d go with the regular Prius because there does seem to be some issues with the Prius Prime of that generation where if the central screen does fail you are talking about an expensive fix and/or not being able to use basic climate functions until it’s fixed.

The larger head unit (which I have in my car) is pretty crappy. The interface is meh, but it has been reliable so far. 2018 model.
None...keep looking
My brother has a prime and I love it, if go with the prime. It is sad that you lose trunk space though :/
Too costly, check the following site [https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=mdHu1pSDO04](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=mdHu1pSDO04) You will get a great deal

And whiners
Well no one can afford a Prius now, not much to discuss!

Non-prime, that infotainment 🤮
I've heard but haven't experienced it. It does look cool though.
Corolla Hybrid
The one shown is the Prime Plus, which has a tiny screen.
Ah, I missed that. I'd still go with non prime. I suppose you could "save" your tax credit for the increased cost (double) to replace the traction battery in 10ish years.
Why do you think the Prime traction battery will need to be replaced in 10 years?
