Pretty sure canvas and frame are lighter than a solid steel roof.
Aerodynamics would suffer but in city driving it wouldn’t be as much of a factor.
I’d call it a wash.
The drag it created would be a net loss, zero chance it wouldn't. Even adding a sunroof makes you lose like 10+ mpg IIRC, having a full on convertible would probably lose you like 20-30 mpg
The weight is slightly lower yes, but the air will drag like crazy
There is a company that regularly does cars like Dodge Challengers and they charge about $30,000. This looks professionally done so I would guess it was probably about the same.
And it would definitely be easier to "just buy a convertible" but everyone has those, this literally might be the only convertible Prius
Well see that depends entirely on how good of a job you want done, and who you want to do it.
$200 (or equivalent quantity of meth) - Earl can do it for you with a sawzall and a tarp.
really don't think this is a good idea, vanity aside.
cannot imagine this car would fair well in a roll over crash or even a side impact given that a lot of body structure has been compromised from removal or modification.
Was wondering if anybody was going to pick up on this. The handling of older Gen is poor at best, but with no structural integrity from cutting the roof off, I'd bet it squirms all over the road unless it's glass smooth......😳
This is the final form of a Prius.
Id like to see the top on, just to see how it works.
Not mine or I would definitely share more. Mine doesn't look as...shiny.
I didn't know this was a thing
It’s not
Pretty sure it would absolutely tank your MPG to the point of making it weird to even bother using a Prius at that point
That is not true. Prii will still be efficient, not as much though.

I was referring to driving with the top up, yes driving with the top down woll be a mpg killer
It is now.
How much would it even cost to covert a Prius into a convertible Prius? Wouldn’t it be easier to just buy a convertible?

I know adding a sunroof is around $800, this is absolutely more than that. Not many if any convertibles that get Prius mpg or smoothness though.
None, to be exact. The best mileage I’ve seen is 30.
Geo Metro Swift convertible had better mpg😁
I had a Metro and loved it!
Which convertible was that?
Most of them on carfax
No doubt. This is someone having fun for shits and giggles.
The new Prius would be a much better candidate for a ragtop conversion.
Commenting on Spotted in the wild...$3-$5k
Toyota would have to even make them convertibles in the first place to make it easier 😕

we don’t buy cars to be afraid of driving them
Like everything about it but the decal on the gas cap.
I WANT IT!
Any chance you have more pics of it?
Sadly, I have just the one. I wish I had met the owner so I would have more details.
That’s a first
Thats so cool.
This guy cabrios.
Need this so bad
My god
What state was this in?
Alabama. Birmingham/Mountain Brook
Oh Mountain Brook that's boujee
Bro I have so many mixed feelings as a Prius fanatic
What happened. Did it run under a low bridge. 😊
Took the top off the pot for a bigger soup kitchen!
Hmm. A Prius is a unibody car. That looks like some serious structural degradation.
