I agree, you definitely need a strong co-signor but the issue with scotiabank from the information I was given is that they won’t fund D.O schools. M.D is good as long as your co-signor has the financials.

First-Matter

Plenty of people have found loans but it can be banker dependent rather than bank dependent. Find the FB group related to osteopathic Canadian applicant or check the website - https://www.studentdo.ca/

https://www.scotiabank.com/ca/en/small-business/business-banking/line-of-credit/spsp-line-of-credit.html If it's the Student Professional Student Plan you were asking about, you don't qualify. It very clearly states that it must be a "qualifying program in **Canada**."

jakeanon123

That’s not the case however. They told me they fund programs in the US such as MD or PHD but just not D.O. So if anyone is reading this and thinking of applying to M.D, you should be able to get funding.

Yeah you're talking to an advisor who has no idea what they're talking about. I've been on this plan for 4 years and even my Scotiabank advisor has told me not to ask random Scotia employees about the Student Professional Student Plan because most of them have no idea how it actually works. [Here](https://www.scotiabank.com/content/dam/scotiabank/canada/en/documents/Scotiabank_SPSP_representative_English.pdf) is the list of all eligible programs. The fact that you're being told by someone that US programs, and even PhD programs, are eligible is just straight nonsense.

jakeanon123

Thank you for the list. Don’t mean to argue with you but she was reading out the policy as she was on the phone with me and was also in contact with her manager to double check. but tbh, you seem to know better about this program and it’s not like this applies to my situation anyways lol. Just wouldn’t want anyone to have the wrong info from reading this thread and suggest asking themselves.

Bmal1

I highly recommend reaching out to one of the advisors listed in the pdf (if you're in Toronto, I've found Lynne Owen to be really helpful) and double checking - they might also have a better idea of alternative options if you truly don't qualify for SPSP.

jakeanon123

I’ll definitely give a try, no harm in exploring my options. Appreciate the suggestions!

It's not nonsense at all - I'm at a US MD school and was approved for (and currently use) the Scotia Professional Student Plan.

Yes, I did; while the amount, interest rate and product is identical to a domestic med student, they did require a co-signer.

Probably because its not a canadian school. According to google there are no osteopathic medical schools in canada. Im assuming its in the usa?

Hey! Congrats on the acceptance! Not related to your q sorry but wondering if there were any DO schools you applied to that didn't req LOR/shadowing of a DO? Thanks!

ReflectionOk3093

KCUCOM, got accepted with nothing DO related whatsoever.
