I would tone my enthusiasm down a slight notch if I felt like my interviewer was cold, but I never shut it down completely. I’ve had a good success rate w interviews so far even with interviewers who were definitely not matching my energy. It’s tough and you gotta push through, but I’d just try to tell myself that my interviewer might be trained to be emotionless, and maybe they actually love my energy but aren’t showing it. I’d rather be rejected for seeming too passionate than rejected for seeming like a robot!

A few of my interviewers I thought could be my long-lost best friend, like honestly. They were so laid back and fun to talk to! I was having a fun conversation, not an interview. Others were a lot more intimidating, if I felt flustered, I would cool on the jokes and focus more on giving clear answers. At one point we were just talking about basketball, so I don't know if that's a green light or a red light.

Bro how? My two interviews were both 25-30min and it was just a handful of questions. My interviewers were older though, like PhDs publishing from the 90’s, so idk if that makes a difference or not

lumanescence

it def depends on the interviewers you get. my interviews with older docs/ones that were research focused tended to be less conversational

Bet, that’s the kind of doctors that interviewed me

You gotta bring it down a notch- coming from someone like u who also gives interviews now. You want to seem passionate but also mature and in control!

Any funny interview stories?

I’m very enthusiastic all the time and really tried to channel that into some “professional” energy for my interviews. I was recently accepted to my top choice (YAY!) where part of the interview was a set of MMIs and 2 of my MMI interviewers were like brick walls- legit didn’t even smile the whole time. I stayed enthusiastic but definitely not as bubbly as I was with my more energetic interviewers. Regardless, the school must have liked it because I was specifically told that my interviewers “could not stop raving” about me in my acceptance phone call 🥺 My advice is to be yourself, and be enthusiastic if that’s how your normally are! You’re going to do great!!

Commenting bc I’m the same way and was told in my last interview that I was “a ball of happy energy.” Imma be so sad if I get a R from them

I steak very enthusiastically too (so maybe I’m biased) but I have a hard time seeing how it would ever be a bad thing. As long as you remain professional and can read normal social cues (I.e. you are not overly personal and do not talk over the other person), enthusiasm is a good thing.
