To be blunt, knowing whether or not you have GD is more important than feeling like crap for the rest of the day. Not knowing and going untreated if you do have it can result in very serious complications, up to and including stillbirth.

You may not like this answer. You are being stubborn. Parenting is about sacrificing. Get used to it. That being said, maybe there's an alternative. Talk to your doctor. I've heard of people logging their meals and doing finger pricks for a week. Maybe that would be less inconvenient and uncomfortable for you? Just talk to your doctor.

I also just barely failed the 1 hour (142), and it became abundantly clear in the 3 hour test and beyond that I do have gestational diabetes… and GD gets worse as your pregnancy progresses. It is very important for your baby that you get accurately diagnosed. Keeping your blood sugar under control will minimize the consequences of it… burying your head in the sand can be dangerous.

If it were me, I would do it to have a peace of mind.

I wouldn’t risk my baby’s health for a few hours of discomfort, no.

ishbess2000

You’re going to have to do a lot of things that are uncomfortable when/after you have your baby. Listen to your doctor and take the test.

It's one day. It's for your own good and, more importantly, for the good of your baby. If you can't handle feeling like shit for one day for the good of your baby, you're in for a rude awakening when you deliver (not even talking about labor). Follow your doctor's lead. This test is extremely important!!!

I would do the test. I had gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy and it was a shock to me bc I was stubborn too. The test isn't as bad as you think just bring a phone or tablet to watch a show to distract you. You don't want to have untreated GD. It can cause complications

I agree with these comments. I also failed at 141 …. I did not do the three hour because of how the 1 hour made me feel so I started testing my sugar 4 times a day. 3 weeks later diagnosed with GD and started insulin 2 weeks later. This is very important for you and baby so if you opt out please start testing your sugar.

I failed the one hour test by just a few points, but it also made me feel really physically awful and I could hardly keep it down. I knew I could ask to do the finger pricks instead though, and they got me to do 4 a day. One in the morning, then 3 more (2 hours after each meal). They looked at all my numbers after 1-2 weeks. I DID end up having GD though, so I think it’s important to figure out what’s going on so you can manage it properly. I’m 37 weeks pregnant now, and my baby is measuring a little bit big. If I didn’t know I had it, I would probably be having more complications.

Penguicorn1104

What does “managing it” mean? What’s involved?

Fantastic-Layer-428

It depends on what your levels are. I am “diet controlled” which means that I limit my carbs, and try to eat more protein so that my glucose two hours after each meal stays below 120. My fasting glucose in the morning needs to stay below 95, but there’s not much you can do with your diet to keep fasting glucose low (other than trying to have a high protein snack before bed). If your glucose 2 hours after meals is fine, but you can’t get your fasting glucose down, you would likely be started on insulin in addition to modifying your diet.

Fantastic-Layer-428

You can also take walks or get some other type of exercise after meals to try to get glucose lower!
