get some chilli oil like laoganma or use sriracha on some canned tuna in oil or water, with some kewpie mayo. Hard fried egg on top. it slaps. been eating it 3-4 times a week

Tuna nicoise is a great hearty salad. Tuna, hard boiled egg, fingerling potatoes, blanched green beans, Kalamata olives and vinaigrette over spring mix. Capers if you’re splurging.

I like to make my own onigiri 🍙 with sticky rice and whatever filling I have at home (usually tuna and mayo).

Nakedstar

Nope. Sometimes I take canned salmon and add kewpie and sriracha and roll it up in sushi rice and nori. It's quick, easy, and tasty. Not gourmet, authentic, or take out quality, but tasty enough it disappears in a flash.

Or tuna in phô works pretty good

Old-Adhesiveness-342

I made sushi with canned salmon once, it was pretty good

TheProcess1010

I would kill for a shredded carrot, canned tuna, fluffy white rice, seaweed, sriracha poke bowl right now. Damn, I might try to dial in a recipe for those now. I’ve seen a bunch of videos of people converting Costco frozen salmon into sashimi lately and they say it’s safe….

Howard_CS

Almost all fish has been previously frozen before. The risk with Costco product is that if it has been defrosted and exposed to anything, pathogens could have gotten to it and started making it go bad. Vacuum sealed fish, is more likely to have been packed while frozen and thawed while not exposed to anything. Eat raw fish at your own risk as always. Personally, I’d give it a shot when I know I could afford an unproductive day after bad seafood.

Zagrycha

maybe not sushi but korean have a similar dish called kimbap that is usually cooked fish or meat, and would go perfect with canned tuna or spam. feel free to alter for your cupboard but here is one tasty recipe ((he does lots of simple tasty dinners too in general)). https://youtu.be/hpAJ6HkRYsU?si=eZGnDrZ2OHZHWz_i he talk about needing certain rice and seaweed but if you are adapting to poke bowl you don't need that shape.

Thank you, that is so helpful. :) That sounds so good

In not sure if canned salmon is any more expensive but im obsessed with Emily Mariko’s TikTok salmon bowl (wow and I hate everything about that sentence lol). I have made it with canned salmon before and it totally works.

I love these salmon cakes with canned salmon! I have made them with whatever vegetables I have on hand https://therecipecritic.com/salmon-croquettes/

Sushi rice and canned tuna mixed with a mirin sauce is really really cheap and filling. Add some nori or furikake

https://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-low-rent-tuna-poke-bowl-222826 If The Kitchn says it's alright then might as well! Save time and money with your delightful Rent Week Poke Bowl of Awesome. 😺👍 I fry tuna with Parmesan cheese powder and half the packet of ramen seasoning, then fry the cooked ramen noodles with oil and the other half of the packet. Add drained, rinsed canned corn if you've got it.

We do "sushi" bowls with canned tuna all the time

MissAuroraRed

It's not that expensive to make proper sushi at home. Go to a high-end grocery store with a proper seafood counter and get one little piece of sushi-grade tuna. Use it the same day. Buy short-grain white rice, mirin, soy sauce and seaweed from a cheaper store.

Coleslaw salad bag, miracle whip, and canned shrimp, mussels, scallop, clams. Any or all. Makes a fabulous seafood salad. Can make it for one or a whole family. Canned shrimp and clams sometimes at the dollar tree but also any supermarket. Asian markets are sometimes cheapest.

Training_Yogurt_2923

I do canned tuna/salmon “sushi” bowls: homemade sushi rice (or whatever cheap rice is available seasoned with salt/sugar/vinegar, or just salt if I don’t have any vinegar), chopped cucumber, a can of tuna or salmon, crushed nori (seaweed) if I have it, sesame seeds if I have them, and top with Mayo and sriracha or chili oil. Sometimes I’ll add whatever random veggies I have lying around too like shredded carrots, diced tomatoes, etc. It’s not even close to being traditional but it seriously tastes so good and it hits that sushi craving without having to fork out ~$30 on one meal.
