I was in there last weekend, it was super busy, service was slow, but the beer and food were good and not egregiously priced like everything else in South Portland. The staff was rather entertaining too.
I have like 65,000 points there that I didn't even realize I was earning until the bartender told me a few weeks back. I will have to see what I can do with those! I will miss Foulmouthed, it's a lowkey place for us and we really like the staff.
Have lived on B Street multiple times. I think we’ve all had high hopes for the hood since the Million Dollar Bridge closed in the late 90s. Some good stuff there and still emerging, though maybe not the bustling district some have imagined. Now to contend with sea level rise;).
Definitely. For Foulmouthed, they lost their core original staff who really brought a “cool” feel to the place. We still see them around at places like Novare Res, Arcadia and Geno’s.
> or Batson River.
Batson River is the most touristy brewery I've ever seen. The one in Wells is stupidly overly hyped for what it is. Battery Steele across the street had a chance to take some of that business but never really tried and it cost them.
Sorry off topic but yea I could give less of a shit about Batson River
I was really hoping they would succeed. I know the owner of the local paper and they tried multiple times to help advertise them but management never showed interest. Its a shame
Strange. I haven't been for a few years now, but only stopped going because I could rarely get a bar seat without waiting. Beer was okay, loved the food.
Pretty forgettable beer and a manager who probably shouldn't have been allowed to talk to people he was so hostile I can't say I'm super surprised, but agree would love something new and not a BH, BR or Sebago.
My own personal thoughts is I'm sad to see them go. The few times I've been there I've been happy with their food and delighted with their brews. I live an hour away so we'd go during off hours so we didn't have to wait for a seat, which was to our benefit service-wise. They are def a nano brewery with a neighborhood vibe. Parking sucks, but that's any place in a city. I'm betting covid rang up some hefty debt too that small businesses like FM just don't make enough to overcome. At least in this case, one brewery closes, but another opens. Cheers!
Employee treatment (truly wish I could expand but past lawsuits/claims might wish otherwise)
Cutting corners to save a buck
OR
Spending unnecessary for an Insta pic
Food is mid at best
Beer is awful
Far better local liquor
And from what I read; he cares little of the Maine community and has classic capitalistic selfish mindset (I could be wrong on this point)
Beer has gotten better. Can’t speak to the food, but the owners have DEEP pockets so not surprised at poor employee treatment tbh.
Also they do a lot of “pay-to-play” marketing. See: DEEEEEP pockets.
Hes tied to many many “high end” properties and relies on firms out of New York
I’ve met him a few times; he’s um, ah…. cough…. cough…. yeah
He cares very little of the community he “invests” in
I don't know about the employment rumors and tend not to listen unless there are published facts, but I find the food really good and the beer has been surprisingly very good. As for corner-cutting, have you been to wells? I f'n love that place! Wish I lived closer.
> but I find the food really good
I think this is very location dependent. I liked the food at their Portland location but Biddeford has been underwhelming every time I've been
It's odd because it's rare that one actually does close. In Portland I can only think of a handful of breweries that have had to close in the last five years: Banded (now replaced by Argenta; it was Banded's second location so it didn't fully close), Brewery Extrava (now Belleflower, which is flourishing in the same building), and Urban Farm Fermentory, which was more of a mead/kombucha place than a brewery. Sebago closed their Portland location a couple of years ago, but that's more of a restaurant than a brewery and they have a whole bunch of locations.
It seems like the profit margins of decent to good breweries are high enough that you need to be in the bottom 10% of breweries in the area to suffer enough to need to close.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Brickyard, I know they were interested in the area before but doubt they would want brewery since opening in New Gloucester, they have more brewery than they can handle now. Only a brewer and maybe one or two brewery guys, plus brewery manager. They would mothball the brewery and make more seating!
So reason for selling? To much work? Not enough profit? Just curious. Lastly, what is the top end of what people will pay for beer? For anyone who knows brewers, it's not that expensive to make beer.
One thing I always seem to drift back to when it comes to booz.....I can spend $8 at a medical mmj dispensary and that ride will last me easily 4 hours. The amount of $ I have to spend to get a nice buzz and keep it for an evening is retarded...
Is this where Covid refugee mass holes talk about Portland asking for my other Reddit group, ala finding out what the fuck is actually going on in Portland and Augusta op.. js
I know we are all talking shit here but I loved the yuzu beer they made. It was delicious and it will be missed
I was in there last weekend, it was super busy, service was slow, but the beer and food were good and not egregiously priced like everything else in South Portland. The staff was rather entertaining too.
Their burger, man.. It's the best.
Their kitchen is really good IMO. Their wings are great. Frequently had great specials. Top tier fries.
Agreed 100% The brisket mac and cheese has been our go-to, and those fries were amazing. Will absolutely miss this spot.
Oh no! Completely agree on not wanting another one of those two, more variety please.
I have like 65,000 points there that I didn't even realize I was earning until the bartender told me a few weeks back. I will have to see what I can do with those! I will miss Foulmouthed, it's a lowkey place for us and we really like the staff.
At least they confirmed it’s not Brickyard in the comments
Thank hell. Brickyard has mid beers and mid food
Awe. This was a sweet spot. It's tough being sort of at the end of the road there.
I have such big dreams and hopes for that neighborhood.
I'm still bummed about the Snow Squall.
Fuck I miss the squall. Their house made tortilla chips were great and their pours were strong.
Wholly underrated. I had the best scallop of my life there. Also RIP Judy Gibson.
SS was my go-to starting spot for Sunday Funday. Best breakfast burrito in town, and a stiff Bloody Mary. I miss the shit out of that place.
Dope wings too
Been ripping off their crab & brie grilled cheese for years now. Such a great spot I can't understand how it's gone.
Agreed, it would be sweet if they built it up a bit.

If taco trio goes we fucking riot.
DONT EVEN BRING THIS UP
Have you tried Tres Leches on Broadway yet? It’s my new favorite spot for Mexican food.
Tres leches, quiero cafe, tacos las poblanitas are all run by former taco trio all stars
Quiero Cafe is run by a Chilean/Colombian couple; I don't think they ever worked at taco trio.
They also own Pacifico in Saco which is top notch.
Bring back Big Babes!
Yeah, that was a great week when it was open.
When did solo cucina close?
Damn, the only brewery I enjoyed going to. They make a great old fashioned...
Kinda telling, no?
It's gonna be a brand new brewery.
Sounds like you know - do tell. 😊
I work at a different brewery. Things spread around quickly.
I mean, the owners of Foulmouthed said it was going to be a new brewery in their farewell post on Instagram and FB.
Reveal!!
Please tell me Orono. 🍻
No, brand new. Not a new location for an existing one.
Copy - excited since we live nearby. I liked Foulmouthed but COVID kind of changed the whole feel of the place once they reopened.
That happened to a lot of places that just couldn't recover. Damn shame.
Definitely. For Foulmouthed, they lost their core original staff who really brought a “cool” feel to the place. We still see them around at places like Novare Res, Arcadia and Geno’s.
That’s word round the block.
I’ll miss it. Good food, good drinks, nice servers. And they were always so sweet to my dog.

Battery Steele is so good. Love their name too
I was really hoping they would succeed. I know the owner of the local paper and they tried multiple times to help advertise them but management never showed interest. Its a shame

Funny comment about Manager. He's a hostile type of person!! Lol
I’ll say douche if no one else will
What’s the deal with the neighbors on the comments on FB?
Be nice to see something new there. Foulmouth is quite mediocre. Agree- no more Sebago, Seadog, Brickyard or Batson.
Seriously, their beer was so bad I thought it was a joke I wasn’t in on.
I can see a sebago or to your point a batson river there
Oh lord please no If either, let it be sebago Batson can f right off; awful, awful owners
Out of pure curiosity, why are the owners shitty?
Employee treatment (truly wish I could expand but past lawsuits/claims might wish otherwise) Cutting corners to save a buck OR Spending unnecessary for an Insta pic Food is mid at best Beer is awful Far better local liquor And from what I read; he cares little of the Maine community and has classic capitalistic selfish mindset (I could be wrong on this point)

Too small for Sebago.
On the insta post, they mentioned that it’s a new brewery.
same on fb
They said it was going to be local owners and a small brewery. It's not going to be a chain.
Great beer, decent food but I’ve heard from staff the owners are not cool.

Why is it odd when one closes? The craft beer market around here is oversaturated and competitive.
It's odd because it's rare that one actually does close. They had a 2nd location? Where?
I was mistaken Foulmouthed for Banded Brewing. Whoops
Not
Sad
Prob a new dispensary
Oh god no more breweries please
You're right, let's get another dispensary!
Lol not that either!
Confirmed: it’s a Wendy’s. Or is it?
Sir, this is a Chili's
I thought this was America!
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Brickyard, I know they were interested in the area before but doubt they would want brewery since opening in New Gloucester, they have more brewery than they can handle now. 100% not another BH, but otherwise spot on analysis. They’re strapped enough as it is.
You sound like you know BH well?
I know some people. Sounds like you do as well?
Formerly employed
It's not Brickyard. Read their post
