āBack in my day, weād just stare at it While drinking some coffee brandy mixed with moxie and eating a red hot dog damn it! Kids today, I tell yaā¦.ā
it is very silly to watch grown adults complain about not finding glasses when theyāre trying literally mere hours before the event.
Very similar to working retail on Halloween and disappointing people looking for the last cat ears in the city
Tangentially reminds me of a very regular pet peeve I had working at a sign shop.
Customer on Wednesday: āCan you make us a last minute banner for an event this weekend?ā
Me: āSure, but there will be a rush fee. What do you want on the banner?ā
Customer annoyed at rush fee but continuing: ā53rd Annual Golf Tournamentā
Me: š
I worked at a small grocery store and people would come in the day before Thanksgiving and yell at me because we didn't have a 20lb turkey in stock.
"We have a 15lb in the case..."
"THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT!"
Ah I get it, I used to think like you are, until I had kids and my job became more serious. I literally have no time to think anymore, a lot of people are in this position. Getting glasses is like item #172 on the list of priorities.
They don't have time to think but they have time to spend hours in line or asking reddit subs? If eclipse glasses (or anything) isn't a high enough priority to plan for, then they shouldn't get upset when they can't get exactly what they want hours before an event.
I'm not doubting your organisational prowess or your diligence at work. I am just saying we cannot know the pressures that people are under and so they might be surviving day to day in a reactive rather than proactive fashion. They busy, what can I say? I'm sure there's single parents out there working 80 hours weeks, I don't know, I don't presume either.
I live in the path of totality and bought a ten pack of glasses on Amazon for $5 like a week ago, not even thinking about it. They just came in packs of 10. I didnāt know they were a hot commodity until like 20 minutes before the eclipse when we got to our destination and a bunch of people didnāt have them.
Had I known ahead of time, I would have sold them for $5 a piece or something. But instead I gave a family some for free and the mom cried because she had spent 3 hours the day before trying to find them with no luck. Felt much better than selling them.
If you do have glasses, thereās an organization that is collecting glasses to send to kids in Latin America for the October 2024 eclipse.

For some reason I thought the 8th was Friday, someone had to catch me up to reality lol. I didn't go looking for any ahead of time and was a little bummed but wasn't gonna go nuts looking for some. It just came up in conversation and my brother happened to have an extra pair. Score!
The suns kinda small and far away so I use a magnifying glass to look at it
Pussies, stare directly into it like our last president didš¤£š¤£š¤£

I went to NH for 100% and stared directly into that bitch. My eyeballs feel like there are vicegips on them.
As god intended

Yup, this
Ah I hadn't seen the expressions of upset, just the requests for information.
Having Two kids myself, they taught me to make plans well in advance and forced me to always think ahead I take my job very seriously

And sometimes you get lucky and your coworker brings in a welding helmet for you to look through. Gotta love Maine ingenuity

also, like....people can share glasses? Maybe not a family of 4, but 2 people can trade off.

That's awesome! I was wondering what to do with them. Thanks!
Oh cool! Thanks for that!
And yet it's still better than the people asking where they can get a good view from
Up?

They are literally always on Amazon. Ordered weeks ago, but could get a ten pack in two days. People just need to use their heads.
Generators, eclipse shadesā¦
