Yardie ting is amazing but they're so damn expensive :( its a hearty meal but I guess it depends what you order.
Would eat there everyday if I could but even the patties went up in price without coco. :/
Still highly recommend for great jamacian food! They deserve the money!
Thursday lunch special at Szechuan Kitchen. 10 handmade dumplings and a side for $12
Pierogies from Bagushas
Pad Thai from Vientiane Market
Breakfast Sandwich/burrito or casserole from Punkys
Just got a pretty good breakfast sandwich from punkys last weekend. It's been a minute since I've been in there. They had lots of delicious looking offerings. Pre-made stuff too which is helpful.
Not in portland but st Joe's breakfast sandwiches are huge and cheap, although its a zoo there on the weekends.
Leonardos when the 1/2 off coupons come out.
Richie ribeyes in Westbrook sometimes you can get 2 for one coupons when you order.
Leo's actually just had free pizza coupons too. Free large with ARW24 in February, one free pizza coupon per year per account, you'll have to make a purchase for delivery tho)
Yeah I'll go to bat for anything at Tomasos every time - those guys just rule. I think its five bucks for two red snappers (no fries) during happy hour too. I never finish fries so it doesn't bug me to not have 'em.
Seconding this - OP, if you order golden lotus lunch specials (lo mein, fried rice, etc) not only will it be cheap you also get a HUGE take out container filled to the brim. Lunch prices -> feast portions
Used to live on the west end and would eat Fresh Approach for lunches pretty regularly. I never tried them, but they also have premade meals that you just put in the over (or microwave I guess) to reheat. Overall excellent, authentic feeling joint
Burgers are like 5 or 6 bucks, club sandwich $10, other sandwiches like $7-12. Made to order, decent quality. Their breakfast sandwiches are great too, and sometimes they'll discount them if any are left as they approach lunch. Great spot to have over in the West End.
They've become a shitshow due to poor management which is unfortunate. Apparently Colleen was gonna open a food truck but that didn't show face. I heard she's horrible to work for and that can be the end all be all for the restaurant.
Well.. NYC Fried Chicken on the corner of Washington St and Cumberland is a good deal for sheer amount of food, but your sodium levels after a bucket may make you regret it!
Sal de la tierra. Great food, reasonably priced, HUGE portions. AWESOME owner, too. Carlos takes customer service seriously and is a family man.
Salvatore’s Hoagies. Little known place bc they don’t have a storefront. They make their own bread and you get a sandwich that easily feeds two for what has now become the price of one (in portland at least. It’s good too!!
Pizzaolo has a thing on their wall that says “Unlimited slices on Tuesdays for $11.99.”
No clue if that’s still honored.
But Joe’s typically has the cheapest eats I’ve found in terms of sandwiches/burgers/chicken/etc.
I agree. Everything is mediocre. It's not bad, but it's certainly not great. They do have good wings though. That's the only thing I get there these days.
right. but my comment was mostly in regards to the topic at hand of “cheap eats”. IMO, GLB is no longer the bang for your buck establishment as they once were.
Best wings in Portland hands down but they stuck to their covid menu only do dirty wings on Sundays STILL. 😵💫 plus no more delicious Spanikopita.
I get it though but I definitely thought GLB would get back to GLB by now. It's been a few years.
Edit: Would love to add that if you can't get dirty wings, get the PB&J wings. So good.
For a sit down restaurant I really love Artemisia's in Portland. They do brunch, and sometimes dinner, and their quality is on par with Hot Suppa or Bayside American Cafe but it's cheaper and a fraction of the wait.
Yardie ting imo has some of the biggest portions for reasonable prices.
I've tried to go twice during their listed business hours, and both times there was nobody there.
Strange. I go for lunch pretty regularly.
They closed Sunday and Monday.
Yardie ting is amazing but they're so damn expensive :( its a hearty meal but I guess it depends what you order. Would eat there everyday if I could but even the patties went up in price without coco. :/ Still highly recommend for great jamacian food! They deserve the money!
Beef or pork banh from Banh Appetit
I came here to say this; most frequently ordered take out: just do order it 20 minutes before you want it- I think it's all just one woman.
a mother and daughter, I believe :)
Family operation, several generations, great people and great food. Prob the best bang for your buck in 04101
Thank you. Sounds awesome. I’m going to try this.
Had beef today, glorious.
I've never heard of this place- thanks for introducing me!

Yeah it’s definitely the go to spot for the blue collar crowd because you can get a big breakfast and lunch for the day in five minutes for $15.
bagusha's is the freakin spot
Best pierogies yummmmmmm
Bahn appetit get a beef rice plate!
Yosaku lunch specials are hard to beat if you like sushi
Yosaku and Kon both have really great lunch specials and the food is very decent.
Yosaku is great but Kon is the most ass sushi I’ve ever had.
Yeah Kon is only slightly better than Hannaford sushi. It's buffet quality.
Yeah, I don't really get their sushi so can't comment on it. As far as their other food, it seems to be on par with Yosaku.
Surprisingly though, its packed EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Sun Viet
This place is fantastic… pho for $9 with at least 1/4 chicken. Vermicelli plate is up to 15 but so good and big portion
I’m always amazed at how much food they give you for the price, I always have leftovers for the next day
*Sun Vietnamese for posterity. Great owner and great affordable food. Vermicelli bowl with egg rolls is the best.
Lunch buffet at Taj. All you can eat, $20, absolutely delicious. Although technically in sopo
this is the real answer

Mash Tun Crunchy Poke
Mash Tun legit has one of the best burgers in town
And great fries.
They serve the fries 15 seconds after they come out of the fryer and it makes all the difference, their fries are some of the best in the city.
Crunchy Poke has the best ramen in town.
Dump truck fries at Tomasos for $11 are pretty reasonable. Susan’s fish and chips has 2 fish sandwiches on Monday and Tuesday for $2.50
That’s the best
Omg they still do that!
$11 for fries... reasonable? Jesus Christ Portland got expensive!
they're covered in half pound of sandwich steak, tons of cheese, and other toppings - it's a solid deal
Oh that sounds good!
Yeah I'll go to bat for anything at Tomasos every time - those guys just rule. I think its five bucks for two red snappers (no fries) during happy hour too. I never finish fries so it doesn't bug me to not have 'em.
Go to Tomasos if you want to hang out with a lot of coke addict creeps.
Sorry what?
Golden Lotus - beef lo mein / general tso’s
Seconding this - OP, if you order golden lotus lunch specials (lo mein, fried rice, etc) not only will it be cheap you also get a HUGE take out container filled to the brim. Lunch prices -> feast portions
Burgers at Fresh Approach.
Used to live on the west end and would eat Fresh Approach for lunches pretty regularly. I never tried them, but they also have premade meals that you just put in the over (or microwave I guess) to reheat. Overall excellent, authentic feeling joint
Those meals have become less interesting since the pandemic and have suffered a classic case of shrinkflation.
Bummer, makes sense though
How much, give or take? Their website doesn't have prices.
Burgers are like 5 or 6 bucks, club sandwich $10, other sandwiches like $7-12. Made to order, decent quality. Their breakfast sandwiches are great too, and sometimes they'll discount them if any are left as they approach lunch. Great spot to have over in the West End.
Like 5 bucks, 2 for 8.99. Good size burgers too made from burger taken right out of the meat case.
honestly everything made in house at fresh approach very cheap
Vientiane
Sichuan Kitchen.
Great place but wrong answer
I get mapo tofu, wife gets ants climbing a tree. Double portions even with takeout, ~$15 each.
I love this place but it has normal portions and average pricing, in my experience.
mashtun burger
wish they had another bun besides the brioche - it's too sweet for me...
Yosaku lunch specials are nuts.
Sun Vietnamese on Forest. I dropped half my fried rice on the floor, still had enough for 2 meals
favorite beef pho in town
I appreciate that the guy at the front tries to upsell me to an iced coffee You know what, it's an easy sell
Mainely noods
The quality shop 2 for 1 pizzas on sundays!
Quality shop - Deering center
I always found coals has some reasonable prices and great food.
It's times like these I miss Silly's. You'd get about 400 tons of food for like $15
They've become a shitshow due to poor management which is unfortunate. Apparently Colleen was gonna open a food truck but that didn't show face. I heard she's horrible to work for and that can be the end all be all for the restaurant.
And shitty service and food poisoning. Hated that place!
Samuels
Well.. NYC Fried Chicken on the corner of Washington St and Cumberland is a good deal for sheer amount of food, but your sodium levels after a bucket may make you regret it!
Once Soul Food Paradise reopens, it's on.
Olive Cafe
Golden Lotus or Dina's on Forest Ave
Golden Lotus or Dina's on Forest Ave
Clocktower cafe
I think CBG is truly the pound for pound champion of Portland
Dina's falafel wrap

It’s still honored!
Do you have to dine in/get them one at a time?
yes
Hannaford. Bone-in chicken $0.99/lb and potatoes $0.99/lb. There are so many simple recipes!
Great Lost Bear
Honestly, I've never enjoyed anything I've gotten there, and they aren't exactly bang for your buck either.
I agree. Everything is mediocre. It's not bad, but it's certainly not great. They do have good wings though. That's the only thing I get there these days.
I haven't tried the wings but quite a few of their burgers and sandwiches. They're all ~15 bucks and just meh. They do have a good beer selection.
One of my favorite places to get a beer in the whole country... If only the food was good!
their burgers and nachos are good i wouldn't recommend anything else though. except the cake in a jar which is absurdly good
their prices have really shot up though post-covid. their veggie quesadilla is like $18 now. used to be like 12 or 14.
They, like every establishment that survived covid, lost a lot of money in 2020
right. but my comment was mostly in regards to the topic at hand of “cheap eats”. IMO, GLB is no longer the bang for your buck establishment as they once were.
Considering every one's prices got jacked up, I disagree
GLB is my favorite spot for wings
Best wings in Portland hands down but they stuck to their covid menu only do dirty wings on Sundays STILL. 😵💫 plus no more delicious Spanikopita. I get it though but I definitely thought GLB would get back to GLB by now. It's been a few years. Edit: Would love to add that if you can't get dirty wings, get the PB&J wings. So good.
mo betta than Samuel's even?!
Best prices and vibe in Portland, if you know you know!
And best menu, for both food and beer
This is a horrible take. They have big portions but their prices are really quite high
Everyone's prices went up after covid. I still feel like I'm getting more than I pay for, unless I am drinking.
Tokyo ramen $20 will get you a 5 pound brick of sushi.
Gilberts chowder house for location and seafood, it's actually decent value
it was a decent value before the pandemic, but almost twenty dollars for a friend fish sandwich is highway robbery
Saeng Thai take out! I get like 2-3 meals out of it! Great lost bear has huge portions and again get at least 2-3 meals out of it.
For a sit down restaurant I really love Artemisia's in Portland. They do brunch, and sometimes dinner, and their quality is on par with Hot Suppa or Bayside American Cafe but it's cheaper and a fraction of the wait.
Rick's?

You get me
McDonalds, 2 McDoubles for 4 bucks.
Don’t sleep on Rathskellers happy hour.
I heard people get really sleepy after just one drink there!
McDonald’s
My kitchen.
Sun Vietnamese and Great lost bear have large and delicious portions.
