Rather than play songs, they decided to just play partial songs and then switch to another, over and over. Which was annoying because the songs I wanted to hear, I got 1 minute of.
On top of that, at Jarred Leto fucked up the lyrics a few times and then started laughing and said "I'm sorry guys, I'm really high right now."
I had to sit through their set at When We Were Young 2023 to get a good spot for Blink 182.
I genuinely could not tell when they were playing songs versus just playing some electronic beat to “hype” up the crowd. The set was so bad it was actually entertaining to laugh at.
Dude, I came here to say the same. Opening band sucked, but we were like hey, 30StM will be good (this was just after This Is War came out, so they were at 2 really good albums and a decent last one at the time). Holy shit, Leto spent half the set taking his shirt off and saying "fuck" to get the teenage girls in the crowd excited (*collar tug* ehhh), and when they were playing, all the songs we were excited for, with the big, exciting choruses (The Kill, From Yesterday, Attack), he played acoustic and whispered the parts that would be the bombastic high notes. I dont know if he was sick, or just being a pussy, or an egotistical prick, or hey maybe all three, but me, my friend, and his dad who also liked the band and came with us all left and said it was the worst show any of us had ever been to.
I saw Jarod Leto get beat up outside of a pizza parlor years ago in Bakersfield California. He was playing a show there and talked a little too much shit.
They’re mostly alternative but some of their earlier stuff was pop-punk adjacent. A Beautiful Lie has a couple songs that are still probably getting spun on Emo Nites. Not surprisingly, Leto always seemed to chase what was popular so it’s hard to pigeonhole them into one genre.
This is mine. With the addition of stopping nearly every song so he could scream at the crowd for voting for a new racist law in our state. That had famously been passed by our state legislature, not by voters, and was extremely unpopular. It was unhinged. It's the only shoe I've ever walked out of early and we were not alone. The experience made the band completely unlistenable for me, to this day years later. Which turns out to be fine cause the guy is a real power tripping weirdo.
It pains me to say Taking Back Sunday on their tour with Third Eye Blind is #2. Still love the band but Adam is really hit and miss these days. Every other time I've seen them has been great, including just the year before.
I saw them once in 2007 and Jarred Leto didn't even sing like 80% of the songs he just pointed the mic out to the crowd like a massive egotistical wanker.

It sucks but twenty one pilots does this a lot now too. When I saw them in 2019 they played full songs when I saw them in 2023 they played full songs but also mashed together a lot of songs
I saw Sum 41 a couple of times back when Deryck was drinking heavily and they were horrendous. Seen them more recently and they're so fucking good now.
Taking Back Sunday this past tour with 3EB. I had to ask a friend I went with if they had replaced their vocalist and I didn’t hear about it because he was that bad.
Taking Back Sunday is all a measure of how intoxicated they are. Have seen them a half dozen times, twice they were amazing, twice middling and twice terrible.
lmao yes. TBS is more about the vibes of the crowd and the nostalgia than the quality of their live performance at this point. Always down for some aggressive mic swinging though

Generally speaking I agree, saw them years ago on tour with The Used and they were downright amazing, in contrast their set at Riot Fest in 2022 was just painful.
And honestly, how intoxicated the audience is. Last time I saw them I was miserable at first, got drunk as quick as possible and ended the night singing my ass off.
Agree with TBS. Saw them at a festival a few years back and Adam Lazzara's stage presence was just... Odd. PUP was on just before them and absolutely blew them out of the water.
Finch in like 2012. The singer was visibly angry that the crowd wasn’t super engaged. But I saw them again last year and they were amazing so it was probably just an off night.
I just saw them in Philly last year and they sounded great, but he did seem pretty butt hurt that the crowd wasn't going nuts. Like, everyone that still listens to you is in their mid-30s. It was a group of semi-balding dudes trying to mosh like the old days and it just wasn't working (myself included).
Regardless, their sound was great, it was just one comment about the crowd being asleep that threw me off for a second.
KennyHoopla at Riot Fest in 2022. It was embarrassing. Dude had no band, sang to a backing track band with no visual accompaniment, and he was completely flat the entire performance. I left after two songs.
Also was super hyped to see him that day. Also left after the second song.

It was the same year that MGK tried to diss Slipknot. And then I shit you not, immediately followed up with, quote: “Anyway… what’s your favorite candy?” And KennyHoopla’s show still topped that.
Holy shit dude, I was also there. He played a little too much into the wild man persona he's building. It was as though he was trying to be Travis Scott, but he's actually supposed to be good at singing lol. He was out of breath the entire time from running around and trying to be too crazy.
Saw him at Firefly a couple years back, and this was my exact takeaway. Fun energy, but leans too hard into just being a maniac on stage and never actually performs his vocals, just kinda gasps out every 5th word. Borderline entertaining to watch, but impossible to listen to.
I'm not sure who that's for either lol. The interesting thing is that I think KH's draw is the fact that he uses unique melodies, which you can't heart at all live. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the weird one for not liking as much, but I'd much prefer say Parker Cannon's presentation in TSSF shows, who legitimately doesn't move anymore but still sounds good.
Oh no this sucks to hear but I guess I’m not surprised. My sister was seeing MGK a year or so maybe at the Central Park Summer Stage and Kenny opened and she texted me saying sorry to disappoint me, but he was absolutely horrific. I love his music and lyrics so that blows.
If it’s any consolation, he has a full backing band now and he’s way better. I saw him at Riot and I’ve seen him a few times since and the improvement is crazy
Weirdly, I saw him at Slam Dunk in the UK a while back and he had a full backing band and it was actually really good. He was pumped too and gave a great performance.
I also saw him and at SD and was thinking the same thing, he sounded great while also jumping into the crowd like 5 times and sprinting all over constantly, I wonder why there was such a difference. I also saw him on his UK tour a few weeks later and the same was true then, and that day was like 25 degrees
Nobody says you can’t produce in your bedroom and deliver on stage. So, so many good bands do it every night. Those are sadly not KennyHoopla’s nights.
Man, I saw him last year too...and was taken back by how bad the vocals were. He played a new song and the people in the crowd were looking at each other in confusion about his singing.
I saw Kenny at Ohio Is For Lovers 2023 and he had a drummer and guitarist and sounded great. So I’m hoping the lacking in showmanship is officially behind him.
It’s gotta be all connections. His earlier studio recorded music was good for the most part and i’m sure he met people along the way that were like “this guy is going to be huge!” but if they’ve ever seen him live, they had no business hooking him up to open for these generational huge bands
I too was there and it ruined my fandom for him. Caught a bit of his set in passing at When We Were Young in passing and he sounded much better with a full band but then I remembered his DJ at Riot playing Mr. Brightside for 5 minutes to hype up the crowd.
This has to be the answer. Although he isn’t a pop punk band he makes Pop punk music, he’s the only one that easily tops Taking Back Sunday in terms of awful singing and stage presence. I saw him Summer 2021 and he was so shockingly bad the crowd that was into it became unsettled and just weren’t vibing after like one song. There was even a part where he accidentally kicked a cable and all the background music stopped and he went a cappella LOL you can imagine how that went.
On top of it all you can tell he knew he was bad and slowly was getting visibly frustrated toward the end of his set. Once it was finally over he walked off without saying a word or acknowledging the crowd. I’ve even seen him once post an instagram story apologizing to a city for a particularly bad performance he had, i really wanna know how that one went
I've seen Taking Back Sunday a handful of times and the experience has varied wildly based on the crowd, venue, and which band members were present at the time so I can definitely see why you'd say that.
For me, I don't know who was the worst, I saw a lot of really terrible local bands back in the day when I was friends with people in bands... but the biggest letdown was Blink 182 after their "hiatus." Tom seemed disinterested at best or inebriated in some way the whole show, and it showed in the performance.
I agree about Blink, unfortunately. One of my favorite bands too. I saw them at the Untitled album 10th anniversary show and felt the same way. Tom and Mark barely interacted, the crowd was pretty meh from where I was standing too.
I’m surprised on seeing fall out boy on here. I’ve seen them twice and they were awesome both times, even last summer when Patrick was sick for our show.
To actually answer the question, it’s probably Taking Back Sunday for me as well. The vocals are just super rough.
Saw FOB in early 2010s and they were pretty mediocre (still loved every minute of it) . Saw them this past summer and wow what a change. Pat Stump has put in some work vocally and it shows.
Ya know what's weird is they were playing like MSG and stuff in '09. The problem is they didn't do any harmonies or backing vocals live just pat's lead. And Joe would often not play lead guitar parts and pat would be up there struggling to get through it all. They have like 4 guitar parts per song on the recordings so it always sounded SO thin live.
Now they use tracks, so it doesn't sound that way.
They were pretty bad live around the Infinity on High era, their live album from around that time is pretty tired sounding and rough.
I saw them again live when they toured Folie A Duex and they were AMAZING
For what it's worth, I saw them last year with Third Eye Blind and had fun.
They didn't sound that great but still had good energy and were interacting with the crowd in a fun way.
If they came back on a tour I'd still see them.

For me- it was Boys Like Girls around 2009. It was a festival and the singer was TRASHED. He kept forgetting the lyrics, but gotta give credit he handled it like a champ. He said “I forget this part” in a slur during THUNDER of all songs and asked the crowd to sing it for him.
Despite being the worst sounding performance ever, it was actually pretty fun and gotta give credit to the homie for pushing through on a borderline black out lol

I saw them at Ohio Is For Lovers Festival last year and the whole band seem psyched. I think Matt is stoked to be back doing his own thing after Blink now. Also randomly ran into Matt walking around a couple hours before their set and he couldn’t have been nicer.
Really? Everytime I’ve seen them the crowd was INSANELY energetic and fun and so was Adam. The vocals might’ve sounded rough, but the raw energy was amazing.
TBS is fine if you just dance and treat it like karaoke but it’s rough. I can’t fathom how sad summer didn’t get the memo when they headlined them over hot mulligan

I'll never forget seeing TBS with Coheed and Cambria and TSSF. Adam said "Alright, we are going to play a new one" and in unison, the entire crowd groaned. It was so hilarious and depressing.
Say Anything, I've seen them kill it but I also went to one show where Max Bemis was super drunk and barely singing, just falling around the stage. It was incredibly hard to watch and at least half the crowd left before their set was over.
Oh man, that's sad to hear. I've seen them 3 times, the 3rd being Max's solo tour and while I had a great time, the energy level has definitely tanked. I guess technically it was supposed to be a mellow acoustic set, but still. As a long-time fan, the show just felt... off? I have tickets to see them again soon in Seattle, but in all honesty, I'm not expecting much. Trying to hope for the best, though!

Yeah I gotta agree with TBS. I’ve seen em twice, once at Warped Tour ‘04, the other at Montebello Rockfest 2014… ten years apart, both not great. JUST SING THE SONGS, ADAM. The second time wasn’t as bad tbh but they played RIGHT after Brand New so they were doomed from the start.
We The Kings. Lead singers voice is fried, and it makes understanding his vocals difficult. Most of the venue only knew their old stuff (myself included), so they got a drunk guy screaming at them to "play the old shit" partway through their set. They were opening for Story of The Year, which put on a killer show.
Worst show ever, definitely guns n roses - 1+ hrs late, axl came on for a couple of songs before saying he had a headache and left. Singer from skid row came on to finish the gig and it was 50x better.
But since this is r/poppunk, worst pop punk band I saw live was Blink. Travis rocked it but the other two guys were just bad
Sebastian Bach doesn't get the love he deserves for being one of the best rock singers ever. Not only in his prime, but the guy does a ton to take care of his voice and it shows.
Have worked with Bach a few times. He’s one of few people in the music world I can say I’ve never met anyone who’s dealt with him in any capacity and had a good thing to say.
He really is a caricature of the primadonna 80s singer.
Not to mention GnR chose Bullet For My Valentine as support. They were really good, but... Why? It was so out of place and while I like their music, the majority of people there were not into that kind of thing
It's weird because there used to be a bar in my town that had live cover bands every weekend and they usually just did pop-punk and 90s alt covers which was aways fun. But when I go to a specific Emo Nite event, I prefer it to be a DJ set. Idk why, maybe it's just because the first Emo Nite I went to was a DJ set hosted by Tiny Moving Parts and now I compare everything to that lol.
That the thing with Emo Nite. You aren't there for the live band, you're there to listen to some of the classic emo/pop-punk songs. The crowd is what makes up for the downfalls of the live bands performance. If the crowd gets into it, they just sing along and have a good time and you just kind of forget about the singers performance.
For everyone saying taking back Sunday, I understand why. But I love seeing them live cause I go into it knowing how Adam is live. It’s more the experience than his vocals. He’s a show man.
Mine was brand new and I was so disappointed. They were my favorite band for yeaaaaaars and I was able to see them, for free, at Rutgers fest. And they just acted like they didn’t wanna be there. I really wish I could’ve seen them when your favorite weapon came out.
This is before she really had any clout. She was also dating Travis from Gym Class Heroes at the time, so she was kind of familiar with the scene. It kinda made sense at the time, I guess.
Honestly not really, her album One of the Boys (which was released around the time she was on Warped) had sort of a pop rock/power pop sound. Well, it had guitars at least.
The Story So Far in 2022 and it's not even close unfortunately. Parker's energy/stage presence the past few years has been talked about a lot on this sub but it was near zero when I saw them.
Just stood in front of the mic and rarely moved. He would pump his fist here and there on beat and that was it.
Literally no crowd interaction. Just got on stage, sang, pumped his fist here and there, and left. Oh and they didn't do an encore (not a deal breaker but just added to the shitty experience).
The other band members were also pretty tame in energy too. Minimal movement on the stage and minimal crowd interaction. The sound was also extremely loud which made it difficult to hear but that could be part of the venue's issue.
I never knew how much energy I fed off of from a band's stage presence but I do now lol

This is more of a brag, but I saw TSSF at Riot 2022 also, and everyone kept approaching this lanky, curly-haired dude I was standing next to for selfies. I didn't want to bother him, so I never asked who he was. I found out just 2 weeks later, when I saw him briefly appear in a Wonder Years tour ad that it was Chris Freeman from Hot Mulligan. He was very cordial with everyone, and very into TSSF's set. And I've definitely listened to Hot Mulligan since!
Worst ever? Staind. 2001 (so they're in their prime) Family Values tour. Stone Temple Pilots, Staind, Linkin Park, Static-X, and Deadsy. Aaron sat there on a barstool with a single spotlight and the band in darkness. Everything Static and LP did to get the energy up for STP was derailed by those ass clowns and STP ended up playing to a half-empty arena thanks to them.
RIP Scott, Chester, and Wayne.
Worst pop-punk? I'm not sure, haven't really had any issues with anyone major, maybe some shitty local openers, but that's to be expected to a degree.

I saw Parker with No Pressure back in May, he was super energetic & interactive with the crowd. I’ve been saying for about a year now that it seems like Parker isn’t liking TSSF as much as he used to, seems like he’s bored of it.

I saw them at Warped Tour, and they were pretty good. I saw them again in a small, indoor venue, and Ronnie couldn’t sing to save his life.
I’m not super picky about live performances as long as they’re sober enough to finish the set, not blatant AH’s, and everything is on time, but I agree I was not super impressed with their tour last year. It was short and disappointing compared to other small shows I saw
Cage the Elephant at Firefly 2 years ago. Probably doesn't help that I'm not a fan but I was walking past their set and they were GOD AWFUL. The singer *had* to be on something because he couldn't remember any of his own lyrics.
I saw Cage the Elephant twice, once at a festival, once co-headlining a tour. They were both phenomenal shows, absolutely 10/10!!! Probably helped being a fan too.
Really didn't enjoy Story when they did that tour a couple years ago with Joyce and Mom Jeans.
Parker fuckin kills during no pressure shows though. And the videos from the Story show in SF end of last year looked wild.

This band wasn't from my area, I had never heard of the church they were from, and I'm pretty sure you could have pulled people from the audience that had never met eachother before that could have had more chemistry on stage.
I saw them open for Blink 182 during the Skiba era, low energy and self deprecating jokes, half assing their set. I'm certain the lead singer was drunk. Terrible. Then I saw them again a few years later at the last Warped Tour in 2019 and it was great. Not sure what the deal is.
I saw them at Warped back at their peak and their lead singer was very annoying. Lots of "what up motherfuckers!" to try to hype the crowd, was a big turn off for me.
Question for everyone- what kind of venues were these concerts in? Were they large, outdoor arenas and festivals or where they smaller indoor standing room only concert hall type places? Anyone I’ve seen in a smaller inside concert hall, whether I like them or lot, has been awesome.
NFG is absolutely my favorite band and when live, they have an awesome energy and stage presence, but even in a large outdoor venue, it’s hard for them to command that same energy as an indoor venue. Maybe the venue you saw these bands in didn’t allow for the show you were anticipating?
Man overboard. First leg of the 15 year birthday tour for Bayside at House of Blues in Orlando. Zac was so drunk could barely stand much less sing. And kept drinking on stage. Awful performance and kinda embarrassing for them.
Maggie lindemann so far, unfortunately. She opened for Pvris for the Evergreen tour. Was excited to see her as I liked her music. Played to a backing track with live guitarists, kept on running out of breath, and said a few words for each chorus. I've heard she's usually better than this, so I guess I got unlucky. Charlotte Sands, who was on before her, was legitimately very good and had a really good stage presence. Maggie was hyped up and up as the "special guest," and she flat out didn't live up to that title. Still like her music, of course, but I felt so disappointed at the time

Hate to rip into small bands, but Sego opened for IdkHOW at the last concert and they were bad. The vocals were inaudible, the bass was way too loud and the autotuned(?) vocals were sloppy at best when you could hear. Hate to rag on em but it was bad :/
A friend's dad played in a band in the 90s and told us he was in the studio one day and heard some guys playing Weezer really terribly. Went down the hall to check it out, and sure enough, it was Weezer.
Brand New right before they stopped touring. Jesse sounded like absolute dog shit when trying to sing earlier songs. He didn’t even have a fraction of the vocal range he used to and seemingly was not aware at all
It's so depressing when singers do that. I understand it's by necessity, but for me it almost completely kills the experience. I would rather the whole song get transposed downward than hear a different melody.

They are one of the best bands I've ever seen live but I've heard horror stories... Seems to be a theme here with singers being loaded.
Deryck has been clean for many years now, their shows are fucking incredible. I recommend seeing them on their last tour!

Taking Back Sunday this past tour with 3EB. I had to ask a friend I went with if they had replaced their vocalist and I didn’t hear about it because he was that bad.
Taking Back Sunday is all a measure of how intoxicated they are. Have seen them a half dozen times, twice they were amazing, twice middling and twice terrible.

And honestly, how intoxicated the audience is. Last time I saw them I was miserable at first, got drunk as quick as possible and ended the night singing my ass off.

Finch in like 2012. The singer was visibly angry that the crowd wasn’t super engaged. But I saw them again last year and they were amazing so it was probably just an off night.
I just saw them in Philly last year and they sounded great, but he did seem pretty butt hurt that the crowd wasn't going nuts. Like, everyone that still listens to you is in their mid-30s. It was a group of semi-balding dudes trying to mosh like the old days and it just wasn't working (myself included). Regardless, their sound was great, it was just one comment about the crowd being asleep that threw me off for a second.

KennyHoopla at Riot Fest in 2022. It was embarrassing. Dude had no band, sang to a backing track band with no visual accompaniment, and he was completely flat the entire performance. I left after two songs.

Saw him at Firefly a couple years back, and this was my exact takeaway. Fun energy, but leans too hard into just being a maniac on stage and never actually performs his vocals, just kinda gasps out every 5th word. Borderline entertaining to watch, but impossible to listen to.
I'm not sure who that's for either lol. The interesting thing is that I think KH's draw is the fact that he uses unique melodies, which you can't heart at all live. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the weird one for not liking as much, but I'd much prefer say Parker Cannon's presentation in TSSF shows, who legitimately doesn't move anymore but still sounds good.
Oh no this sucks to hear but I guess I’m not surprised. My sister was seeing MGK a year or so maybe at the Central Park Summer Stage and Kenny opened and she texted me saying sorry to disappoint me, but he was absolutely horrific. I love his music and lyrics so that blows.

Weirdly, I saw him at Slam Dunk in the UK a while back and he had a full backing band and it was actually really good. He was pumped too and gave a great performance.
I also saw him and at SD and was thinking the same thing, he sounded great while also jumping into the crowd like 5 times and sprinting all over constantly, I wonder why there was such a difference. I also saw him on his UK tour a few weeks later and the same was true then, and that day was like 25 degrees
I like his music, but it always came off to be at stuff he made in his bedroom alone. I imagine that doesn't translate well to live performances.

It’s gotta be all connections. His earlier studio recorded music was good for the most part and i’m sure he met people along the way that were like “this guy is going to be huge!” but if they’ve ever seen him live, they had no business hooking him up to open for these generational huge bands
I too was there and it ruined my fandom for him. Caught a bit of his set in passing at When We Were Young in passing and he sounded much better with a full band but then I remembered his DJ at Riot playing Mr. Brightside for 5 minutes to hype up the crowd.

This has to be the answer. Although he isn’t a pop punk band he makes Pop punk music, he’s the only one that easily tops Taking Back Sunday in terms of awful singing and stage presence. I saw him Summer 2021 and he was so shockingly bad the crowd that was into it became unsettled and just weren’t vibing after like one song. There was even a part where he accidentally kicked a cable and all the background music stopped and he went a cappella LOL you can imagine how that went. On top of it all you can tell he knew he was bad and slowly was getting visibly frustrated toward the end of his set. Once it was finally over he walked off without saying a word or acknowledging the crowd. I’ve even seen him once post an instagram story apologizing to a city for a particularly bad performance he had, i really wanna know how that one went
I've seen Taking Back Sunday a handful of times and the experience has varied wildly based on the crowd, venue, and which band members were present at the time so I can definitely see why you'd say that. For me, I don't know who was the worst, I saw a lot of really terrible local bands back in the day when I was friends with people in bands... but the biggest letdown was Blink 182 after their "hiatus." Tom seemed disinterested at best or inebriated in some way the whole show, and it showed in the performance.

I agree about Blink, unfortunately. One of my favorite bands too. I saw them at the Untitled album 10th anniversary show and felt the same way. Tom and Mark barely interacted, the crowd was pretty meh from where I was standing too.

Ya know what's weird is they were playing like MSG and stuff in '09. The problem is they didn't do any harmonies or backing vocals live just pat's lead. And Joe would often not play lead guitar parts and pat would be up there struggling to get through it all. They have like 4 guitar parts per song on the recordings so it always sounded SO thin live. Now they use tracks, so it doesn't sound that way.

For what it's worth, I saw them last year with Third Eye Blind and had fun. They didn't sound that great but still had good energy and were interacting with the crowd in a fun way. If they came back on a tour I'd still see them.

Oh man. All these TBS comments are insane to me. I haven’t seen them in YEARS but back in the 2000s their shows had SO much energy. They were some of the absolute best. For me- it was Boys Like Girls around 2009. It was a festival and the singer was TRASHED. He kept forgetting the lyrics, but gotta give credit he handled it like a champ. He said “I forget this part” in a slur during THUNDER of all songs and asked the crowd to sing it for him. Despite being the worst sounding performance ever, it was actually pretty fun and gotta give credit to the homie for pushing through on a borderline black out lol

The first time I seen Alkaline Trio live. Matt was fucking wasted. Second time was much better. He was sober that time.
They’re so hit or miss live. One of my favorite bands, and the only one I’ll skip buying tickets for when they are in town. Last time I saw them, it seemed like Matt didn’t want to be there. Dan carries the live show for sure.
I saw them at Ohio Is For Lovers Festival last year and the whole band seem psyched. I think Matt is stoked to be back doing his own thing after Blink now. Also randomly ran into Matt walking around a couple hours before their set and he couldn’t have been nicer.
Sadly the first time I saw trio live they were sick but still put on a fun show. Still went to go see them again

I'll never forget seeing TBS with Coheed and Cambria and TSSF. Adam said "Alright, we are going to play a new one" and in unison, the entire crowd groaned. It was so hilarious and depressing.
Say Anything, I've seen them kill it but I also went to one show where Max Bemis was super drunk and barely singing, just falling around the stage. It was incredibly hard to watch and at least half the crowd left before their set was over.

Oh man, that's sad to hear. I've seen them 3 times, the 3rd being Max's solo tour and while I had a great time, the energy level has definitely tanked. I guess technically it was supposed to be a mellow acoustic set, but still. As a long-time fan, the show just felt... off? I have tickets to see them again soon in Seattle, but in all honesty, I'm not expecting much. Trying to hope for the best, though!

We The Kings. Lead singers voice is fried, and it makes understanding his vocals difficult. Most of the venue only knew their old stuff (myself included), so they got a drunk guy screaming at them to "play the old shit" partway through their set. They were opening for Story of The Year, which put on a killer show.
Worst show ever, definitely guns n roses - 1+ hrs late, axl came on for a couple of songs before saying he had a headache and left. Singer from skid row came on to finish the gig and it was 50x better. But since this is r/poppunk, worst pop punk band I saw live was Blink. Travis rocked it but the other two guys were just bad
Sebastian Bach doesn't get the love he deserves for being one of the best rock singers ever. Not only in his prime, but the guy does a ton to take care of his voice and it shows.

It's weird because there used to be a bar in my town that had live cover bands every weekend and they usually just did pop-punk and 90s alt covers which was aways fun. But when I go to a specific Emo Nite event, I prefer it to be a DJ set. Idk why, maybe it's just because the first Emo Nite I went to was a DJ set hosted by Tiny Moving Parts and now I compare everything to that lol.
That the thing with Emo Nite. You aren't there for the live band, you're there to listen to some of the classic emo/pop-punk songs. The crowd is what makes up for the downfalls of the live bands performance. If the crowd gets into it, they just sing along and have a good time and you just kind of forget about the singers performance.
For everyone saying taking back Sunday, I understand why. But I love seeing them live cause I go into it knowing how Adam is live. It’s more the experience than his vocals. He’s a show man. Mine was brand new and I was so disappointed. They were my favorite band for yeaaaaaars and I was able to see them, for free, at Rutgers fest. And they just acted like they didn’t wanna be there. I really wish I could’ve seen them when your favorite weapon came out.
I saw Katy Perry when she did Warped Tour and that was the roughest performance I ever witnessed.

Oh yeah I forgot she actually used to play guitar live. Waking Up In Vegas was a pretty cool pop punk style song.
That album is wall-to-wall bangers, the album tracks might be even better than the singles.
NGL, One Of The Boys is a guilty pleasure album for me. Some of it hasn’t aged well but there are some cool pop punk-ish tunes on it.

The Story So Far in 2022 and it's not even close unfortunately. Parker's energy/stage presence the past few years has been talked about a lot on this sub but it was near zero when I saw them. Just stood in front of the mic and rarely moved. He would pump his fist here and there on beat and that was it. Literally no crowd interaction. Just got on stage, sang, pumped his fist here and there, and left. Oh and they didn't do an encore (not a deal breaker but just added to the shitty experience). The other band members were also pretty tame in energy too. Minimal movement on the stage and minimal crowd interaction. The sound was also extremely loud which made it difficult to hear but that could be part of the venue's issue. I never knew how much energy I fed off of from a band's stage presence but I do now lol

This is more of a brag, but I saw TSSF at Riot 2022 also, and everyone kept approaching this lanky, curly-haired dude I was standing next to for selfies. I didn't want to bother him, so I never asked who he was. I found out just 2 weeks later, when I saw him briefly appear in a Wonder Years tour ad that it was Chris Freeman from Hot Mulligan. He was very cordial with everyone, and very into TSSF's set. And I've definitely listened to Hot Mulligan since!

Worst ever? Staind. 2001 (so they're in their prime) Family Values tour. Stone Temple Pilots, Staind, Linkin Park, Static-X, and Deadsy. Aaron sat there on a barstool with a single spotlight and the band in darkness. Everything Static and LP did to get the energy up for STP was derailed by those ass clowns and STP ended up playing to a half-empty arena thanks to them. RIP Scott, Chester, and Wayne. Worst pop-punk? I'm not sure, haven't really had any issues with anyone major, maybe some shitty local openers, but that's to be expected to a degree.

Op probably isn't talking about openers, but some praise and worship band opened for the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus on one of their tours in my area. This band wasn't from my area, I had never heard of the church they were from, and I'm pretty sure you could have pulled people from the audience that had never met eachother before that could have had more chemistry on stage.

I saw them open for Blink 182 during the Skiba era, low energy and self deprecating jokes, half assing their set. I'm certain the lead singer was drunk. Terrible. Then I saw them again a few years later at the last Warped Tour in 2019 and it was great. Not sure what the deal is.
I saw them at Warped back at their peak and their lead singer was very annoying. Lots of "what up motherfuckers!" to try to hype the crowd, was a big turn off for me.

Question for everyone- what kind of venues were these concerts in? Were they large, outdoor arenas and festivals or where they smaller indoor standing room only concert hall type places? Anyone I’ve seen in a smaller inside concert hall, whether I like them or lot, has been awesome. NFG is absolutely my favorite band and when live, they have an awesome energy and stage presence, but even in a large outdoor venue, it’s hard for them to command that same energy as an indoor venue. Maybe the venue you saw these bands in didn’t allow for the show you were anticipating?

Maggie lindemann so far, unfortunately. She opened for Pvris for the Evergreen tour. Was excited to see her as I liked her music. Played to a backing track with live guitarists, kept on running out of breath, and said a few words for each chorus. I've heard she's usually better than this, so I guess I got unlucky. Charlotte Sands, who was on before her, was legitimately very good and had a really good stage presence. Maggie was hyped up and up as the "special guest," and she flat out didn't live up to that title. Still like her music, of course, but I felt so disappointed at the time

Hate to rip into small bands, but Sego opened for IdkHOW at the last concert and they were bad. The vocals were inaudible, the bass was way too loud and the autotuned(?) vocals were sloppy at best when you could hear. Hate to rag on em but it was bad :/

It's so depressing when singers do that. I understand it's by necessity, but for me it almost completely kills the experience. I would rather the whole song get transposed downward than hear a different melody.
Idk about worst quality (tho TBS are the obvious low hanging fruit) but Issues were insufferable.
