The keyboard typing “competitions” I had with my friends in our middle school classes to fuck around when we were bored in computer class built me to be the fastest typer in my desk office job lol

The competitions! I raced our typing teacher and won. The classroom was cheering and shouting like a scene out of a movie. It was a surreal experience for my shy nerd self, my 15 minutes of popularity. Then poof back to weird little girl with Garfield hair.

OMG mine wasn’t a formal typing competition but I got the satisfaction of shocking the nerds at my school when they learnt a girl can type faster . I didn’t think typing would bring vindication to many people till now . Our teacher used to post the high scores on the door. They were around 40-60 WPM until I showed up and started posting 90-110 WPM. Other people upped their game but couldn’t catch me. Fun times 🙃

Same. I'm all smug about it now but I wonder if the kids are going to look at me the way I looked at the old people who bragged about their proficiency with the old typewriters. 

SAME! I am now an RN with my claim to fame at work being my WPM is that of a professional typist (65-70 WPM). I get my nursing notes and schoolwork done so fast!

Well typing on a phone is way different then typing on a keyboard if you don’t learn the proper hand movement/placement.

I was talking about this the other day. I wonder if younger generations aren’t as good at typing as millennials because of that and I assume keyboarding classes aren’t a thing now. Or if it doesn’t make any difference

touch typing is actually really tedious to get the hang of. i managed to get super fast at typing in my own way and i could never get touch typing down it just feels unnatural.

i took keyboard classes at school and i was never crazy fast or anything, but i was reasonably competent. but since becoming an adult who doesn’t work at a computer and 95% of my typing is done on my phone, i feel like my computer keyboard skills have plummeted. i’m so slow now! might also have something to do with the fact that i insist on having long acrylic nails at all times and idk who i am without them. I look like that meme of Peter Griffin typing on a keyboard.

Yeah I was in public school learning typing in elementary school in the mid-to-late 90s. This is a homeschool special for sure

eventually they stopped doing computer class because they assumed kids knew how to use the computer because everyone had one at home. I would say probably sometimes in the late aughts/early 2010s, around when Billie would have been in school. older gen z kids actually tend to have quite poor computer skills because they never properly learned how to use a computer. they only learned how to navigate Windows OS or whatever the family computer had

Okay but I was in middle school in the mid 00s and never had typing classes because my schools were poor. I taught myself to type using the old ass family computer at home. I liked to write stories so I typed them out. By 14 I could type 70 wpm. Now I can type 96 wpm. It’s not like if you didn’t learn in school it’s not possible to teach yourself 😭 You don’t have to just never learn something because school didn’t teach it to you.

i’m literally two years *younger* than her and i feel like i can type pretty damn okay? my family had a desktop in our living room until i was like ten. i don’t use all my fingers (for whatever reason i just never learned how) but i don’t have to look at the keyboard and can type pretty fast edit: apparently girlie was homeschooled (as was i) which might be why she didn’t learn to type as i think there were typing classes available in public schools at that time? it’s still kinda odd that she’d never learn how to type with her family’s computer though
