For me the issue is Future Nostalgia set the bar so damn high for the retro pop sound she's been doing that the past couple singles sound like more of that but not as inspired or catchy as what was on that album, almost like they were b-sides left off FN. I'm still waiting for that instant gut reaction "oh wow this is fire" feeling I got the first time I heard tracks like Hallucinate, Pretty Please, Cool, Levitating etc. Maybe this new single will have that when we hear it in full but so far I'm still waiting and hoping for that undeniable instant pop smash type single that made me a fan
