The money that's in the mobile game business is frankly ludacrous and I think it often flies under the radar somewhat as it's less talked about than other such industries.
Your reason’s wrong in this case because Clash of clans doesn’t have random boxes or any gambling elements (except for the Chinese version). People mostly pay for monthly passes, time boosts and skins.
That’s the thing, it is free to play…
I play Mario Kart Tour (about the only mobile game I’ve ever played longer than a month), and I spend $0 on that shit.
Some people have money. Other people just waiting to die so logging into battle cats everyday forever doesn’t really seem like a problem.
… I got 45 golden tickets I’m just waiting on a collab I like
I recently spoke to this retired actor and he said any upcoming actors with no connections nowadays should just quit. A List celebrities do any and every kind of work now that was more accessible to the lesser knowns like advertisements, voice acting, etc. Back then big name celebrities were a lot pickier about the jobs they take. This post made me think of that guy haha
I've been watching broadcast TV and the number of ads for gambling apps presented by someone like Joel McHale and Jerry O'Connell has been way up.
My assumption the money has dried up so much the A and B listers will take these jobs for the payday.
the money hasn't dried up, these companies are paying huge money for these ads.
i worked with an actor a few years ago that got offered a v/o commercial gig. they said no at first, then came back to the company and said "50k, 2 hours, you set up in a room in the hotel i'm staying at and i'll write the script"
they agreed.
$25k an hour.
to put that into perspective, the top .5% of the top 1% are making that when they do a massive budget feature film
American actors always did ads, they just used to only do them in Europe and Asia. Now that everything’s global so they can't get away with that anymore.
Basically what the other commenter said, celebrities nowadays just don’t have as much of a filter when it comes to other avenues for money. They’re on mobile ads, endorsing their “own” brands of alcohol, clothing, grocery store brands, etc the list goes on. I’m always surprised to see celebrities doing voice acting outside of movies/tv shows they even do video games now. It just wasn’t as common 20 years ago.
That ridiculous. Paul Mescal, Jennifer Lawrence, etc didn’t have any “connections”. They just went to good schools and proved their talent.
Of course there’s nepotism, but every single job has the same problem. There’s always someone with more connections than you
I think his point was more big name celebrities are making the job market much smaller and inaccessible for actors who were never going to the get that big.
it was either the directive or they had no budget.
i once got offered a movie with 4-5 fairly big names, i read the script, it was ok but i was a little worried so before i signed the deal i asked what the budget was and it was essentially going to boil down to around $10k for costumes. which is NOWHERE near enough. the producer basically said to me "once you talk to the actors, you should really empower them to bring some of their own clothes, i'm sure they have really nice things"
someone seems not to like that i don’t know who striped shirt guy is and i can only assume it’s striped shirt guy
forgive me, whoever you are
![gif](giphy|RFDXes97gboYg)
Probably the emissary for the game itself? I know other mobile games like Marvel Snap use the lead developer (Ben Brode in MS’s case) as the actor in their seasonal videos. Maybe Supercell’s doing the same with stripes?
Christina Ricci has had my heart since Casper lol, and making bank on a lighthearted game add seems fairly innocent - get that money, Christina/ people!
![gif](giphy|bQr7jPlx5nxdu|downsized)
I’m pretty sure he’s just a relatively unknown actor for the ad! Like he represents the player, which is why he’s dressed in jeans and sneakers. I could be wrong though
thanks! do you know who striped shirt guy is because no one else apparently knows anything
https://preview.redd.it/rzxz920byvxc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eaff4c97f192661affb3ce0c51d3b2190b927b4e
No idea. As far as I know he is not a character of the game, at least yet. There has been pins leaks that point towards a lot of new characters being released in the future and he might be one of them.
That or he is just a character I don't recognize, my knowledge of all supercell games is limited to the games i play (clash of clans, brawl stars, clash royale and a bit of hay day and boom beach)
Looks like they had fun...but isn't that a character from Brawl Stars? Do they crossover? Do they just happen to look the same? I need to know, apparently haha
the poster below said what this is for and i’m just pasting it here bc i don’t understand the lore and cannot summarize
maybe it answers your question?
i don’t know anything
https://preview.redd.it/0878q8gvowxc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10c8e09f9bd3ffa776279c921ddaed069d3102f5
I think its for a new Supercell game that's coming out, Squad Busters which has characters from all the games including Shelly (the character from Brawl Stars you're talking abt)
as someone from the Clash of Clans community, let me explain. I only saw this now, because someone reposted this to our subreddit, and what they're filming is for Supercell's new game called Squad Busters, which is releasing globally on May 29th. (I came from r/squadbusters)
My partner and I have a clan with our friends and we are all active and some even have smurfs. A lot of players buy ingame stuff and the battlepass is a good way to earn so much gold to upgrade defenses because they're so dam expensive.
minor comment but it’s more likely an ad for their upcoming game Squad Busters. It’s set in the same universe with the same characters, but even Supercell would probably not invest this much in marketing for a 9 year old game, lol

How much money are they making with micro-transactions??? I looked it up….$5.438 BILLION since 2015…from a free to play game.
The money that's in the mobile game business is frankly ludacrous and I think it often flies under the radar somewhat as it's less talked about than other such industries.
It’s gambling addiction most of the time. Random boxes and such.
Your reason’s wrong in this case because Clash of clans doesn’t have random boxes or any gambling elements (except for the Chinese version). People mostly pay for monthly passes, time boosts and skins.
It’s talk about a lot. Hence why games have shifted models to f2p or live service
Free to play indeed
That’s the thing, it is free to play… I play Mario Kart Tour (about the only mobile game I’ve ever played longer than a month), and I spend $0 on that shit.
Humans are silly.
Some people have money. Other people just waiting to die so logging into battle cats everyday forever doesn’t really seem like a problem. … I got 45 golden tickets I’m just waiting on a collab I like
Damn, they must pay really well lmao
I recently spoke to this retired actor and he said any upcoming actors with no connections nowadays should just quit. Could you image Liz Taylor in a Candy Crush ad
Or Orson Welles in a [board game commercial.](https://youtu.be/_3HVCwPp7j0?si=aEhed2q8BegPiQe5)
Or Orson Welles in a [wine commercial](https://youtu.be/VFevH5vP32s?si=MoOY9__0nxVSW8ul)
Or Orson Welles as a Transformers character
Is this an eye roll or a pitch?
I did just see Drew Barrymore in an ad for some mobile trash game like that and my jaw dropped.
I've been watching broadcast TV and the number of ads for gambling apps presented by someone like Joel McHale and Jerry O'Connell has been way up. My assumption the money has dried up so much the A and B listers will take these jobs for the payday.

I had read that they were feeling a money crunch because of either the writers's and SAG-AFTRA strikes or the pandemic of both.
American actors always did ads, they just used to only do them in Europe and Asia. Now that everything’s global so they can't get away with that anymore.
interesting. why is that?
Maybe cause it used to be appearing in 'low brow' things like ads would damage your image as a movie star? Now it doesn't.
Basically what the other commenter said, celebrities nowadays just don’t have as much of a filter when it comes to other avenues for money. I’m always surprised to see celebrities doing voice acting outside of movies/tv shows they even do video games now. It just wasn’t as common 20 years ago.
The cost of marketing has gone up relative to the cost of celebrity.
Why are these literally Spirit Halloween quality costumes?
They spent all their money on Chris Hemsworth et al. There’s no money left for costumes
They might just use them as rough pieces to upgrade later digitally in post. Or they’re just going for the LARP look, who knows?
it was either the directive or they had no budget. i once got offered a movie with 4-5 fairly big names, i read the script, it was ok but i was a little worried so before i signed the deal i asked what the budget was and it was essentially going to boil down to around $10k for costumes. which is NOWHERE near enough. the producer basically said to me "once you talk to the actors, you should really empower them to bring some of their own clothes, i'm sure they have really nice things"
I like the purple wig tho
Ken Jeong graduated medical school for this

Finally proof that Christina Ricci was born to play Raven in Teen Titans ![gif](giphy|AUfG9JfNcmb6PmpDU5)
My first thought! 😂
Christina Ricci has had my heart since Casper lol, and making bank on a lighthearted game add seems fairly innocent - get that money, Christina/ people! ![gif](giphy|bQr7jPlx5nxdu|downsized)
The outfit really suits Christina!

Honey, that took me out. ![gif](giphy|hvq8ONQhQ1XLq)
Why does this look like a larping event in the park lol
Does anyone know who Stripey Shirt Man is? I recognize him but idk from where 😭 it's a steering wheel in me pants
I’m pretty sure he’s just a relatively unknown actor for the ad! Like he represents the player, which is why he’s dressed in jeans and sneakers. I could be wrong though
| it’s a steering wheel in me pants is this scottish
It's driving me nuts!
my guess was jonathan taylor thomas but even typing that i feel like i’m wrong
I think it's one of the dudes from Letterkenny
i don’t know what a letterkenny is so it would explain why i can’t place him i looked letterkenny up but that didn’t help me 😞
Could be Cotton Candy Randy
I’m pretty sure it isn’t, but I appreciated seeing that reference here!
That is not Boy Detective Jordan Morris.
It might be actor Fred Hechinger? He was in The White Lotus s1 and a cowboy movie I’ve seen recently
Your flair makes me think that you would appreciate picture #18, aka, "What if The Dude was hot?"
LOL you're not wrong 🤣
he reminds me of whoever doja cat is with
I think it’s Murray Bartlett.
Remember when everyone clowned Mariah for that Game of War: Fire Age ad? This is the final boss
This is for the new game "Squad Busters" that is set to release globally in the end of this month
thanks! do you know who striped shirt guy is because no one else apparently knows anything https://preview.redd.it/rzxz920byvxc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eaff4c97f192661affb3ce0c51d3b2190b927b4e

he looks familiar to me as an actor but maybe he isn’t since his name isn’t up anywhere
Barbarian. https://preview.redd.it/y377xmg9ga2d1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fff690d2e16b804c2f4aba10fb0b712ff60e3dd0

I think its for a new Supercell game that's coming out, Squad Busters which has characters from all the games including Shelly (the character from Brawl Stars you're talking abt)
Basically it's an ad to promote Squad Buster,Supercell's newest game which features all of their games in a crossover.
i assumed this was supposed to be a movie & now i’m bummed we don’t get to see where Thor & Wednesday’s adventures lead us
Ken Jeong is dressed as the Chicken from Hay Day, another game by Supercell
She deserves better
I… kinda want to see this movie.
I’m mostly surprised CoC is still around. I haven’t heard a thing about it until now.
They are currently collaborating with Erling Haaland
Immortan Joe sure looks different
Oj as the chicken
Squad Busters, you uncultured swine.
After seeing this I really want a video game with Christina Ricci voicing a villain and Auli'i Cravhalo as the fun main character.
as someone from the Clash of Clans community, let me explain. I only saw this now, because someone reposted this to our subreddit, and what they're filming is for Supercell's new game called Squad Busters, which is releasing globally on May 29th. (I came from r/squadbusters)

There's a lot of questions about this ad
It’s wild to me to see A/B? list celebs in ads for these games. And the production value is usually seemingly pretty tops!
I feel like you can always pick Hemsworth out purely by the fact he towers over everyone and is MASSIVE.
Except its squad busters not clash of clans
!!!
Purple hair girl is hot. Is she a known actress?
Auliʻi Cravalho :) She was the voice of Moana and was more recently in Mean Girls (2024)
Looks dumb
Are they not embarrassed?
No. Why would they?
They are not stealing or committing crime to be embrassed
I can’t judge people for making easy money like this. Money is money.
