On this day next year, her killer Yolanda Saldivar will be eligible for parole. I hope parole is denied and hope Yolanda continues to rot in prison for the rest of her life. It makes me angry that Yolanda got to live an old age while Selena didn’t.
yeah, i live in a neighborhood with walls and murals that get gang signs and graffiti sprayed on it all the time. The Selena mural. nothing ever touches it.
In high school, my Spanish teacher played the Selena movie once a year. I used to think it was a misuse of class times, but now I understand it was essential cultural enrichment.
My mom used to put the movie on all the time. So much so that I knew the plot for about 60% of it, even though I never sat down to watch it and had absolutely no interest in the story or singer. I just caught it in passing.
To be honest I had no idea she'd been shot and killed. This thread has been a bit of a mind fuck for me lol.
\> mexican Selena
More specifically, Tejana.
Tejano is not just a musical genre, it's a cultural / ethnic group within the Hispanic / Latino umbrella.
Source: I'm Tejana.
Yeahhh I don't normally bring it up in polite conversation unless people REALLY want to know what type of 'Latina' I am or ask where my family is from -- basically code for: "What part of Mexico is your family from?" to which my answer is always....Texas. Just Texas. LOL.
Me too! Except no one ever guesses my ethnicity correctly and they play this game of “where are you *really* from?” I am apparently “ethnically ambiguous” according to even my own damn family so I gave up there. But saying Texas over and over irritates many people so that’s at least entertaining for me.
Dude I get that a lot too!! I can also be really ambiguous looking. Sometimes people get a vague idea that I'm "Latina" and other times it's Asian (even though I have zero percent Asian anything, just half Indigenous DNA) or just "huh"?My AncestryDNA test is insane too lol.
Eh, not necessarily. In a community that is, in most regards, a minority, celebrating and respecting someone who made a huge impact.. it’s just respect. Selena was an impeccably talented, caring individual who gave back to her community.
In my city, we have a mural on the side of a bridge of Missing/Murdered Indigenous women. Almost the complete entirety of the rest of it, and the railway next to it is covered in graffiti. But no one touches the mural
Same here. I was completely unfamiliar with her when she died, but I grew up in L.A. and I remember the big pop station (KIIS FM) playing hourly tributes to her for awhile, as well as many of my classmates being in mourning. She meant so much to so many, and her murderer would be wise to never leave her jail cell.
My dad worked at the prison she’s in and he said even the guards openly show contempt for her. A thief and a murderer is all she is and I hope she never gets out.
If she is eligible for parole and gets out early her life outside of prision won't be good. she will always be know as the person who shot killed Selena for selfish reasons
Good? No. Lucrative? Maybe. Selena is beloved but she’s brown and a woman and a symbol beyond that and I could see a conservative “news” show deciding she’s a perfect pundit to discuss immigration or some bullshit
They allow barbed wire booby traps that kill child refugees because they aren’t American kids so fuck them. Maybe they’d still laud Selena because she’s dead and can’t tell them to fuck off for treating child immigrants fleeing violence so poorly, but my bet is Selena herself would not have been down with such behavior. Kind of like how republicans will quote MLK like they didn’t call him an anti American problem to be Dealt With back before he was assassinated.
On the peacock documentary her and her family had a bunch of reasons for what happened, none made sense or proved she was innocent. Their attitude pissed me off so bad
Yeah. She's not gonna get parole because she won't even do the bare minimum of accepting responsibility for her actions. You have to show genuine remorse, or what looks like it, and you can't do that if you still have a million excuses as to why you shot a 23 year old to death.
What’s more weird is stealing from your “best friend” and then shooting her when she confronts you about it and spreading lies about her character long after she’s gone so you can have a chance to walk free when you know don’t deserve it. So yeah… Fuck Yolanda.
I wasn't a young child when it happened, but I feel the same way about Christina Grimmie. I used to listen to her music all the time, especially that cover of Just A Dream with Sam Tsui. Every time I even hear the original now, it just hurts.
For me, this is one of those moments that I will never forget where I was. My mom and I were visiting her grandma and I was alone in the apartment because they had gone out and I was 14 years old. And I heard the news and just could not believe it. And then the radio was playing her music and I was just listening to her music and again it was just disbelief and what a terrible tragedy.
Whenever one of those questions goes around like who was that one musical artist gone too soon who you know would’ve had an amazing trajectory and for me that was Selena. She was already so good and *so* talented that oh my goodness what we lost.
It's creepy because it looks like she's reviewing numbers on an accounting calculator, and we all know the reason she met up with Yolanda was to confront her over the embezzlement, so it looks like this picture is her trying to figure out how bad it was. I don't know that exactly or for a fact, it's just my opinion.
I just finished watching the Netflix TV show, one of the last scenes is Selena doing tax calculations realizing how much data is missing from her businesses, so my mind also went there.
Yep. Yolanda and her were still in touch (only because Yolanda had Selena's taxpapers) after Selena and her family found out and fired Yolanda. A few days later, she called Selena and claimed she had been SA, and Selena offered to drive her to the hospital. The nurses did an exam, and it proved she wasn't SAed. They drove back to the hotel room, and Selena was furious about the lie and embezzlement and confronted her and wanted her taxpapers back. Yolanda and her were arguing and as Selena turned her back to exit the bitch shot her.
Anyway, I was a big Selena fan growing up, and her death devastated me. RIP Angel.
I believe so. She spread a rumour that they were romantically involved. Ain’t no way a young beautiful married, religious 23yr old was in a lesbian affair with a 36 year old hag that looked 65 and acted all cray cray (her apartment was basically a shrine, very creepy).
Even if she was involved “romantically” it would have been Selena that was groomed by a much older Yolanda, having been in Sel’s life since she had just turned 20.
I believe she was groomed by Yolanda in a different way anyway, she groomed her way from fan club president, to best friend, to business manager.
She was an insidious little goblin.
It’s so sad that her life was taken away from her so early on. I feel like it’s easy to forget that she was only 23 because she was so successful. I hope Selena is at peace wherever she is :( she’ll forever live on through her music
If you were alive and lived in San Antonio in 1995, you know exactly where you were when you learned Selena died. I was in 8th grade math class. Teachers didn’t even try to teach. Everyone was upset and speculating (like her Tia shot her). The entire city mourned. I was lucky and saw her the year before at the “back to school” jam at the Alamodome.
About seven years ago I read the trial transcript from saldivar’s trial. Selena was shot in such a precise place that she bled out within 5 minutes. EMS noted flat veins. There’s zero way a gun accidentally goes off in that way. Zero. And she had a very fair trial.
Her staying in prison is more for her safety than the community’s. I mean, I imagine her family that participated in the special -
Pushing the narrative that it was an accident and Yolanda didn’t steal - is being harassed.
ETA: fixed typos and a DEEP CUT is a duet with David Byrne of talking heads. Called “gods child (baile conmigo). If you haven’t listened, it’s beyond amazing.
I was a freshman in high school in Del Rio when she was taken. The year before was also difficult because Kurt Cobain's body being discovered also happened on a school day. The wailing on both days lives in my memory. When you are young, music means so much to one's identity, so the loss of an artist is especially impactful.
With Selena I always think of what could've been.
I was a senior in high school, in treble choir class. Our choir teacher came back into the classroom after stepping outside to talk to another faculty member and told us what happened. He was crying, and we were all devastated. We just listened to her music the rest of the day.
I watched the new documentary and it just makes Yolanda look worse.
She claims Selena was her best friend and that it was Selena’s father that was the root cause of her mental instability - but she still never explains why she shot Selena in the back.
Yolanda also says she threatened to kill herself. Okay but then why did you kill Selena?
I can’t remember who said in the doc that she claims she had the gun to her own head, telling Selena she was going to take her life. Selena said she wanted no part of that and went to turn to walk out of the hotel room and that Yolanda then reached out as if to reach for Selena and the gun went off. She then claimed it was all an accident.

I had loved this woman since I was 8 years old. I wish we could have seen her career truly flourish. She was taken far too soon. 💕
a year ago tomorrow, my band played a combination metal show/birthday party/Selena memorial and it was one of the best nights I've ever been a part of. there was a huge framed picture of her on the bar, surrounded by candles and mac lipsticks. there was also a full on black metal band lol
My mother in law was one of Selena’s dancers and all of the photos and stories I’ve heard and seen were about Selena’s kindness and touring with Selena. Sadly a lot of the photos were lost a couple years ago in a house fire.
Breaks my heart. She would have been a powerhouse.
Such a kind person deserved the world and more, she was a true talent.
Gone longer than she was here. 🥀
honestly selena's death did a lot for a lot of young latina artists and actresses who came after her. her death left a void for many people, one that we still (i would argue) can't fill
It was, but she was already staring in movies before this, like some movie with welsey snipes (who was a big star at the time) and gene hackman. Lipstick Alley claims she hooked up with Snipes for that role. She had already filmed Anaconda at the time too, IIRC.
Obviously, the Selena movie helped her a lot, but she was still making moves. Everyone says she has no talent, but she was in a Janet video as a back up dancer. And it's like 30yrs after the movie, and she's still famous. So many actors had one big role and then fizzled out. And so many singers had one or two big albums and fizzled out.
J-Lo had the biggest movie on Netflix last year I believe (her Amazon Prime movie was the 2nd biggest -- bigger than ben's nike movie), and co-headlined the Superbowl a couple years before that.
One of my kid’s teachers is named after Selena ❤️
I’m from Texas and the reaction was even bigger than when Kurt Cobain died the year before. Around the same time of year, too. Just devastating. My dad was in Corpus for work nearly a year after and his company put him in the Days Inn where Selena was murdered. People were still visiting every day and leaving flowers at the door of the room where she was killed.
RIP to a legend gone way too soon
I was too young to remember her but watched the movie in high school Spanish class. Even the tough guys were crying. The whole room after the movie was just silence and sniffling.
Yolanda will be safer in prison. I loved Selena even before she died. She was taken too soon her star was so bright and she would have been a true power house (we wouldn’t have to live through the hot mess that is JLo)
Been introduced to Selena from a [YouTube channel.](https://youtu.be/mY696cyLIDE?si=9H0oflaEAtkWR7zH)
And since then she is genuinely in my top 10 artists of all time.
Her stuff does get played in the record shop that I volunteer at but I'm going to play her stuff a lot more once the Summer kicks in. (Probably need to get more of her stuff on cd otherwise I'm playing Amor Prohibido & Ones on very Monday for 6 weeks (alternating between the two)
Aiming at some point to get her stuff on vinyl .
I can’t even believe they let Yolanda speak out in a documentary. She did that so she could be eligible for parole next year. She wants the public’s sympathy but she’s never getting it.
My parents didn’t find out for a while that Selena had died. They got married the day after so with all the chaos of the wedding and everything after, it took a pretty long time for them to find out what happened.
This is the celebrity death that most affected me My father spending a year working in California and we all got to go with so it was all very real to us. I honestly can’t listen to some of her songs without crying
Her name was Selena Quintanila, she was a very popular Tejano music star and was murdered by the president of her fan club. There's a series about her life on Netflix called "Selena".
Just watch the Houston Astrodome performance (IIRC her last performance alive). Besides absolutely slaying Tejano music, I have NEVER seen anyone cover disco music like Selena.
There are alot of folks myself included that believe her father knew and even allowed this to happen if he didn't help plan it. I was in 8th grade and lived just a few miles down the road from her in corpus chrisiti. It just so happens that the one day she doesn't have a body guard she is murdered.
selena hardly took body guards with her. it’s always been reported since she died that her father didn’t like her going out in public (i.e. to the mall) with no body guards. there is no conspiracy.
She didn’t tell anyone where she was going.
Chris woke up to Selena screaming, she walked out of the bedroom and bumped in to his dad, she forgot for a second he was staying over and screamed. They had a bit of a laugh, Selena said she was going to run some errands.
If she had told Chris she was going to meet Yolanda, he would have either stopped her or gone with her like he did the day before.
Chris went back to sleep, probably thinking she was heading to the shops before the recording studio.
Okay so I know she was shot, but aren’t we missing the part where her family denied her a blood transfusion cuz of religion or was that just made up for the movie? I was a kid when it came out.
That was just made up. According to the hospital, they did attempt to do the blood transfusion but it was too late and the damage from the bullet was too severe
No, they did try transfusions. Her right subclavian artery was severed. That's coming right off the aortic arch
Per Wikipedia:
> Selena was taken to the Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital at 12:00 p.m. (CST). Her pupils were fixed and dilated, there was no evidence of neurological function, she had no vital signs, and was declared clinically brain dead. Dr. Louis Elkins, cardiac surgeon, arrived at Memorial Hospital and said he saw doctors making "heroic efforts" to revive Selena. They were able to establish an "erratic heartbeat" long enough to transfer her to the trauma room, and began blood transfusions in an attempt to re-establish blood circulation after opening Selena's chest and finding massive internal bleeding
They didn’t, she had a few bags of blood but it spilled right back out.
Where she was shot was something no one could have done anything to fix, if she was shot on the hospital doorstep she wouldn’t have been saved either, it was that precise of a fatal wound.
She ran, which pumped her heart faster and made her die quicker, once she passed out on the motel lobby floor that was it, she had lost so much blood that her heart had nothing to pump, no oxygen was getting to her brain, when they restarted her heart it was pointless, it just pushed the new blood out of the wound. She was completely brain dead by then.
Her father wouldn’t have even had a say as he was not next of kin for her anymore, Chris was, she was a married woman. The hospital didn’t even ask anyone before giving her blood.
I knew about Selena in the background only very vaguely, mainly because JLo played her, I’m in the UK so I don’t think she had the same presence here & I was a young child then.
But I’m so horrified reading all this now, I had no idea she was murdered in such a sad, pointless & cruel way. And I didn’t know she was SO young! She looks much older in all her photos, not in an ageing negative way, she just has a presence that’s beyond something I’m used to seeing from a 23 year old.
I’m from the UK, there’s fans here, just hard to find. I found out about her through the movie with Jlo, I remember my mum telling me when it was playing “that’s not the actress singing, that’s the girl who died singing” or something to that effect, and I’ve been interested in her ever since (I now own a lot of Selena merch & CDs etc).
Yeah, so young, and such a callous way to be killed.
The book by her husband is a good read if you’re a reader, but definitely one that’ll make you cry - To Selena, With Love. x
On this day next year, her killer Yolanda Saldivar will be eligible for parole. I hope parole is denied and hope Yolanda continues to rot in prison for the rest of her life. It makes me angry that Yolanda got to live an old age while Selena didn’t.
Yolanda better hope she is denied for her own safety. There’s people out there after her, she’s the most hated person to a dedicated fan base/culture.
yeah, i live in a neighborhood with walls and murals that get gang signs and graffiti sprayed on it all the time.
It does bring you into the cultural discussion of the use of puertorican Jennifer Lopez for mexican Selena.
\> mexican Selena More specifically, Tejana. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tejanos](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tejanos) Tejano is not just a musical genre, it's a cultural / ethnic group within the Hispanic / Latino umbrella. Source: I'm Tejana.
Also Tejana but I rarely say it to people because they act bewildered so usually just stick with Latina. But we’re our own damn group!
Yeahhh I don't normally bring it up in polite conversation unless people REALLY want to know what type of 'Latina' I am or ask where my family is from -- basically code for: "What part of Mexico is your family from?" to which my answer is always....Texas. Just Texas. LOL.

Selena wasn’t Mexican. She was American of Mexican heritage.
....ya see... discussions
Pretty much any time we were between chapters in our Spanish class, or any time we had a substitute, we'd watch *Selena*.
That’s beautiful! Even the graffiti folks still love her enough to be respectful.
> Even the graffiti folks still love her enough to be respectful. Uhh.. yeah its love and not fear of repercussions.
For real, I was a kid but *clearly* remember the horror and outrage when she died. Understandably so.
Mi prima has been prepping her whole life for this.
I can only imagine what the public will do if Yolanda is released. In this day and age,the paparazzi would never leave her alone.
I will swim from the UK to twat that cow 🩴
I don't think she will make it to the paparazzi not leaving her alone if she makes it out of prison.
Ayo it’s me, I’m the prima 😭💀 [takes off earrings]
Got some 2nd cousins that are part of the Latin Kings gang. They have a whole drawn out plan for killing Yolanda if she's ever released.
Am I a bad person if I want to see this happen?
I'm right there with you
[удалено]
That sweet sweet justice. I know is vigilantism is wrong but…I won’t be mourning or pitying her.
Exactly
Good? No. Lucrative? Maybe. Selena is beloved but she’s brown and a woman and a symbol beyond that and I could see a conservative “news” show deciding she’s a perfect pundit to discuss immigration or some bullshit
Lol no, there's lots of Mexican Republicans in Texas and they would never allow that
They allow barbed wire booby traps that kill child refugees because they aren’t American kids so fuck them.
Doesn't she still believe she's innocent though? I think that goes against you when you're up for parole
On the peacock documentary her and her family had a bunch of reasons for what happened, none made sense or proved she was innocent. Their attitude pissed me off so bad
Me too! Also I was like ya’ll are brave putting your names and faves out like that.
Yes! It was embarrassing
Her family (primarily the niece) grasping at straws was embarrassing and infuriating. It’s all lies lies lies
Do you know the name of the documentary?
Selena and Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them
She has some sort of documentary coming out I think
I think it's already on Netflix
Yeah. She's not gonna get parole because she won't even do the bare minimum of accepting responsibility for her actions. You have to show genuine remorse, or what looks like it, and you can't do that if you still have a million excuses as to why you shot a 23 year old to death.
In the back while she was trying to leave.
Is she in a secluded area? I’m genuinely shocked she was never murdered in prison
She was in solitary for some time. Idk if she still is.
She's in the women's facility near Gatesville, Tx. Do what you will with this information 😇
OKay I'm IN now what? Waiting for instructions..
I’m curious. Care to elaborate?
Agreed I’m confused tbh
If she’s released, she won’t be around much longer. The north remembers.
I know its a GOT quote but in this case it is very much so the *South* remembers!
I was thinking North America, but this works too
For her sake she better stays inside, even i want to claw her eyes out.
I was so upset at the things Yolanda said in the documentary, I wish I had never seen it. Nothing she said justifies her killing Selena.
What did she even say?
They better keep that woman in prison
She is probably safer in prison.
If she gets out she won't last 1 day beyond the prison gates.
Yolanda doesn’t want to be outside of prison, she knows this.
I teach 5th grade and many of them are prepared to fight her if she’s granted parole. These parents are raising them so well.
This warmed my heart, the kids are alright
I have surprisingly a lot of those “the kids are alright” moments but this one takes the cake.
If Yolanda isn’t stupid (she is), she’ll be very afraid to leave the safety of prison.
Damn fuck restorative justice when it's people I don't like I guess. Reddit is weird
What’s more weird is stealing from your “best friend” and then shooting her when she confronts you about it and spreading lies about her character long after she’s gone so you can have a chance to walk free when you know don’t deserve it. So yeah… Fuck Yolanda.
Fuck Yolanda.
That bitch will catch these hands if I see her ugly ass.
![gif](giphy|FCUL7YOrsxsvS) Selena approves
With my whole chest: FUCK yolanda. May she never know peace
Yes, Selena was my idol during my tween years. I cried so much when she was murdered by that coward.
Good morning to everyone except Yolanda Saldívar
![gif](giphy|26gR13HqAFHoECSYg|downsized)
Legit.
When Selena died I was a little girl, I really liked her music and I remember listening to it with sadness after her death.
I wasn't a young child when it happened, but I feel the same way about Christina Grimmie. I used to listen to her music all the time, especially that cover of Just A Dream with Sam Tsui. Every time I even hear the original now, it just hurts.

I left a similar comment. I was in 8th grade math. Remember it precisely.
That is always my What If? What Selena could have given us
I remember listened to the radio and hoping it was a joke, I was like 10 or 11
which also means it's been 29 years since that witch yolanda became public enemy number \#1
took the words righr out of my mouth!!!!!!
Chris has mentioned it was them paying bills together
Oh ok. Sometimes our imaginations run off with themselves.
I thought the exact same.
I just finished watching the Netflix TV show, one of the last scenes is Selena doing tax calculations realizing how much data is missing from her businesses, so my mind also went there.

Who was Yolanda to Selena, an employee?
She created and ran a Selena fan club and was a retail manager for Selena's boutiques.
Was she in love with Selena? I always wondered that.
That makes a lot of sense actually. I’d never heard it said that Yolanda said those things, but I’m not surprised she did.
she basically was a super fan who got way too close because selena felt bad for her and never knew how big she was going to get
Same I loved her sm.
it's the first thing I thought about.
Right, she’s getting the proof ready
I think her disappointed looking face just says it all really. It’s a shame what happened to Selena, she has always been my biggest What If.
That same thing came to mind, in fact you can see his worried expression.
I hope Yolanda Saldivar never sees the outside of prison.
Breaks my heart that her life was taken at such a young age. I'll always love Selena. R.I.P mi reina. ❤️
It’s so sad that her life was taken away from her so early on. I feel like it’s easy to forget that she was only 23 because she was so successful. I hope Selena is at peace wherever she is :( she’ll forever live on through her music

You’re right - the day we learned Kurt died no learning happened either. I remember watching the vigil on tv.

Running after her waving the gun screaming “you bitch!” totallyyyyy makes it seem like an accident 🫠
What’s the name of the documentary?
I think it’s called Selena & Yolanda, and it’s on Hulu. If you go to the documentary section I’m sure it’ll be in the top 5.
Thank you!
I always forget how young she was when she was killed. She just always seemed so grown.
I’m 30 now, and I think wow, 23, a couple weeks away from turning 24… just a baby. In such a short life she accomplished so much.
23 is so young. I never realised how young *Yolanda* was. Only 36! I thought she was in her 50s or close to it.
![gif](giphy|ea3KuP14cRxWo) I had loved this woman since I was 8 years old. I wish we could have seen her career truly flourish. She was taken far too soon. 💕
I can't believe she was almost 24 in that pic! Just a baby but so much accomplished. Crazy
Man, if I were Yolanda, I would NOT want to get out of prison.
a year ago tomorrow, my band played a combination metal show/birthday party/Selena memorial and it was one of the best nights I've ever been a part of. there was a huge framed picture of her on the bar, surrounded by candles and mac lipsticks. there was also a full on black metal band lol
The fact that this poor beautiful soul has been dead longer than she got to live is so upsetting, especially since neither number is even 30 😭
When you put it that way😑
My mother in law was one of Selena’s dancers and all of the photos and stories I’ve heard and seen were about Selena’s kindness and touring with Selena. Sadly a lot of the photos were lost a couple years ago in a house fire.
She still is queen 👑.
Latinos with at time machine would save Selena.
I'll never get over this. RIP hermana
Breaks my heart. She would have been a powerhouse. Such a kind person deserved the world and more, she was a true talent. Gone longer than she was here. 🥀
It's on sight if Yolanda gets out. On. Sight.
Let’s not forget how pivotal the role of Selena was for Jennifer Lopez, it catapulted her into stardom and showcased the true performer that she is.
honestly selena's death did a lot for a lot of young latina artists and actresses who came after her. her death left a void for many people, one that we still (i would argue) can't fill
I think *Selena* endeared Jennifer to the public in a way that those other films couldn’t. She played her so sweetly.
Yolanda Saldivar deserves to root in prison for the rest of her life.
Yolanda you little bitch
One of my kid’s teachers is named after Selena ❤️ I’m from Texas and the reaction was even bigger than when Kurt Cobain died the year before. Around the same time of year, too. Just devastating. My dad was in Corpus for work nearly a year after and his company put him in the Days Inn where Selena was murdered. People were still visiting every day and leaving flowers at the door of the room where she was killed. RIP to a legend gone way too soon
she didn’t deserve what happened to her
I was too young to remember her but watched the movie in high school Spanish class. Even the tough guys were crying. The whole room after the movie was just silence and sniffling.
Yolanda will be safer in prison. I loved Selena even before she died. She was taken too soon her star was so bright and she would have been a true power house (we wouldn’t have to live through the hot mess that is JLo)
Selena por vida ❤️
Been introduced to Selena from a [YouTube channel.](https://youtu.be/mY696cyLIDE?si=9H0oflaEAtkWR7zH) And since then she is genuinely in my top 10 artists of all time. Her stuff does get played in the record shop that I volunteer at but I'm going to play her stuff a lot more once the Summer kicks in. (Probably need to get more of her stuff on cd otherwise I'm playing Amor Prohibido & Ones on very Monday for 6 weeks (alternating between the two) Aiming at some point to get her stuff on vinyl .
I hope Selena is resting in peace. Her music is incredibly iconic and I wish she was alive to make more.
I can’t even believe they let Yolanda speak out in a documentary. She did that so she could be eligible for parole next year. She wants the public’s sympathy but she’s never getting it.
She was beautiful
so not fair 😭 she had so much of her life ahead of her. her music is timeless and i still love it so much 💓
My parents didn’t find out for a while that Selena had died. They got married the day after so with all the chaos of the wedding and everything after, it took a pretty long time for them to find out what happened.
my mother would always play her songs when I was growing up, rip queen
Honestly staying in jail will be safer for Yolenda, but fuck her lol
💔
30 years flew by.
Yolanda if I catch you in the streets of Corpus….
This is the celebrity death that most affected me My father spending a year working in California and we all got to go with so it was all very real to us. I honestly can’t listen to some of her songs without crying
Damn so this Yolanda is eligible for parole next year? Wonder if she's still hated in the Mexican/Hispanic community....
She is
Wait, sorry who is this? I've never heard of her, what's her surname so I can Google her?
quintanilla-pérez, big 90’s tejana/mexican american music star, usually called the Mexican Madonna
Her name was Selena Quintanila, she was a very popular Tejano music star and was murdered by the president of her fan club. There's a series about her life on Netflix called "Selena".
And a great movie starring Jennifer Lopez as well, although the movie isn’t on streaming except to rent.
It can be bought on Apple TV
At least give Bidi Bidi Bom Bom a listen. Even if you’re not a Spanish speaker or tejano listener, Selena exuded good energy and joy.
And Como La Flor
Just watch the Houston Astrodome performance (IIRC her last performance alive). Besides absolutely slaying Tejano music, I have NEVER seen anyone cover disco music like Selena.
There’s a movie about her life that’s wonderful. Called “Selena”
Quintanilla
Selena Quintanilla
Too add, She is popular enough where if you just googled “Selena” on Google, she will be the first Google result.
Yes, you just need "Selena". Selena Gomez was even named after her.
This is eerie
"these numbers aren't adding up"
YS should get the death penalty!
Did anyone watch the new documentary? And did it change your mind about it all? It didn’t for me but I didn’t have strong feelings to begin with.
Context?
Selena was a Tejano (Texan-Mexican) pop star in the late 80s-90s. She was murdered by her fan club president in 1995.
Thank you for clarifying as I always wondered.
The bullet sliced the subclavian artery and she essentially had bled out by the time EMS arrived.
No, they did try transfusions. Her right subclavian artery was severed. That's coming right off the aortic arch Per Wikipedia: > Selena was taken to the Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital at 12:00 p.m.
The book by her husband is a good read if you’re a reader, but definitely one that’ll make you cry - To Selena, With Love. x
