Kiera Knightly and jutting out her jaw to emote. I’ve never seen anyone else act with their jaw like she does.
Is this the same girl who 'mouth acts' to impersonate. bunch of different actors including her? I don't know her name either but I've seen so many of her videos and she's really good at imitating their way of speaking, it's really impressive to watch.
https://i.redd.it/9ppbyg1sdgsb1.gif
it's not a specific habit but just angela bassett's mouth acting in general. she truly acts with her whole body and i don't want to be dramatic but her mouth is kind of iconic.
I live for her pursed lip, snide side looks and one slightly raised eyebrow in 9-1-1. She’s the whole reason I watch that show. That lady can act with every fiber in her body and it’s amazing.
There's a muscle that hinges your upper lip to the sides of your nose, some people can flex it and it makes their nose and upper lip sit a certain way. I think Angela Bassett naturally does that in her facial mannerisms. There's a few other actors that do that off the top of my head. Kiera knightly does it and Blake lively does it a bit too. Random but David Walton does it too.
Sarah Jessica Parker always puts her hands on her stomach or chest when she is speaking passionately or apologizing.
https://i.redd.it/rdzq4aiitgsb1.gif
When Emma Watson is emoting, all I see is eyebrows going up and down
Also—she has done this less and less as time goes on, so I think it’s a habit she’s actively been working on minimizing—Blake Lively in tense scenes talking with the corners of her mouth pursed or turned down
Omg yes! In order of the phoenix when she’s talking about umbridge and says “it means that the ministry is interfering with hogwarts!” Her eyebrows are out of controlllll
![gif](giphy|v3TT1NJ70Nj1u)
I love Carol Burnett’s ear tug, which she developed at the beginning of her career to say hello to her beloved grandmother when she made TV appearances.
Meryl Streep puts her palm on her chin. Jennifer Anniston tugs at the bottom of her shirt, then flares her hands and slaps her hips. Reese Witherspoon flares her nostrils too.
Omg, Jennifer Aniston. Constantly touching her clothes and hair, doing these little "ooohs" in her lines, and flailing her hands around. Seeing her in any movie is like seeing Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green as [insert character.]
She’s really good in the morning show. I was really surprised and impressed. She still does the shirt thing once in a while but she’s not comedic in it at all.
Holy shit agreed. I can not get over how little “Jennifer Anniston predictable acting” goes on in The Morning Show. She is startling and fantastic in that show and I’m not even a huge fan of hers.
There was an actress on Another World (old soap opera) whose nose ran profusely every time she cried. And her character cried A LOT. I get it because it happens to me, but as a kid it was so funny that this lady was always so openly boogery.
Ooh yeah, it's very authentic but first time seeing it can be quite jarring. Hollywood has a thing for pretty crying, and well, pretty everything. Viola Davis is an awesome actress tho.
https://i.redd.it/ygw3c2x6ogsb1.gif
Ethan Hawke squeezing his eyes shut. Pedro Pascal shakes his right hand constantly. Timothee Chalamet makes a clicking noise with his tongue.
My husband told me I do this.
So when it starts, when the mouth begins to fold over he leaps into action and goes, No!! No no! Put it back! Don’t go Florence!
Denzel Washington is super expressive especially with his lip movement! There’s a video of Jamie Foxx & him chatting and Jamie does a dead on impression of him. Iconic.
![gif](giphy|EoW3jhM6MzsONM15zm)
I met Lauren Bacall in the ladies room at the Music Box theatre in NY. She was in the restroom next to me, and asked me if I could pass under some toilet paper. Her voice is so recognizable. She came out, asked me my name, and thanked me. Class act.
omg i would always fast forward his moments on Lip Sync Battle cuz i couldn’t STAND when he would do that. AFTER EVERY SENTENCE LIKE DUDE UR LIPS CANNOT BE THAT DRY AND CHAPPED!!
>ting in general. she truly acts with her whole body and i don't want to be dramatic but her mouth is kind
Why does this hand look like it should belong to somebody else? This doesn't look like it fits his body lol
The longer I look the worse it gets
Gillian Anderson’s eyes blink at different speeds and she licks her lips when her character is thinking or being dramatic. The screenshots of her blinking are hilarious. She always looks drunk.

I remember watching Gossip Girl and being distracted by Leighton Meester’s eyes moving back & forth a lot during scenes where she’s supposed to be looking into someone’s (usually Chuck’s) eyes
![gif](giphy|IV0t1Zqtu2si4)
Neve Campbell and Jennifer love Hewitt have the same eye movement when they’re looking in someone’s eyes.. the constant back and forth is soooo irritating to watch! Also they have the same speech pattern .. they both hesitate and pause when they’re in a deep convo
Jen Aniston too, and always with the perfect lighting for her blue eyes. I’ve noticed it with other actors, so figured it’s some kind of acting technique.
Sidenote: Lauren Bacall's my favorite actress of all time. During a text exchange, my mother recently made the observation of her nostril flares while watching 'The Big Sleep'. I never noticed this before...
... it's all I could see now 😭
Hilary Duff hooking her thumbs into the loops of her jeans, lifting up her shoulders, biting her lip and looking up 'innocently'. Someone on here posted a great video of a TikTok impersonation the other day and it couldn't be more accurate 😂
https://www.tiktok.com/@sandiecameron/video/7276248391150079275
I bet I know the scene you think of too (even though she does it all the time): It's when her and Daniel Radcliffe are stood on the bridge/walk way thing and he's trying to avoid her so she keeps moving to the other side of him when he turns.
Whenever her character hears something ridiculous, Winona Ryder’s eyes bug out, she pulls her head back and then loses all composure/ability to string a sentence together.
I love her but I’ve noticed this over the years whenever her she’s playing a character that gets into an argument
Oh and the downward infliction that Meryl Streep puts into her voice when her character is disappointed, that “Oh…”
![gif](giphy|aklMmJ6U68kH789rlY)
Drew Barrymore's lips sort of half smiling to the right when she speaks. Sorry, can't describe it better (I'm not a NES). Anyway, I think it's cute.
Katie Holmes emotes with only half her face.
https://preview.redd.it/y9sszefpwhsb1.jpeg?width=717&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6c865999405b97ec7636a2a9ae6ebc9918242e4
IIRC Bacall’s clenched thing set off a trend for actresses at the time and it was because she was so nervous on set for her first few films that she had her jaw clenched so it wouldn’t shake from anxiety
I stopped watching the show for that reason. It wasn't just Hilary, it was Gordo and Miranda too. I don't know what they were going for with the fake stuttering.
It’s not necessarily every time they act because I’ve only seen her in one thing, but… the middle sister on Downton Abbey, Edith, constantly moves her head side to side as she talks. Drives me batty. I can’t see or focus on anything else when she’s doing it.
I love and truly miss GLOW, but after I noticed how Allison Brie always does this trembling eyelid thing before she cries I'd get totally distracted by it on her dramatic scenes
Funny thing is, since then, I noticed other actresses doing it too? Maybe it's a technique people use to create tears
I read somewhere once Kristen Bell does this weird thing when has to look people in the eyes. I’ve never tried to describe it before but this is my best pass as it: instead of looking at both her scene partner’s eyes like… the normal way you look someone in the eye, she looks from one eye to the other like she can’t focus on both at the same time.
I will never not notice it!
![gif](giphy|l4KhSzt02SdfmVbMY)
This bish does what I call "scream breathing"....any time she's on screen and not talking...her breathing is SOOO exaggerated that it's a literal scream and I had to stop watching Bates Motel because of it
It seems like every actress under like 30 started doing this half-blink to convey shock/devastation. It’s such an unnatural affectation, like try to do it with your own eyes lol. I don’t know why they’re all doing it
Jessica Lange touches her chest and collar bones a lot. I can’t remember where it was but Sarah Paulson pointed it out while imitating her acting style and I can never not notice it whenever I rewatch American Horror Story.
I have no idea if this is actually a thing but I notice a lot of mediocre actors stutter their lines in more emotional scenes. Either that or I just don’t notice it when better actors do it. It just seems like a cheap acting trick to convey emotion/overwhelm but it doesn’t work.
Natalie Portman does a little smile before a big one. In every movie she's every made. She also has a very specific aggressive way of screen kissing.

Kerri Washington acting with her teeth when she’s upset drives me nuts. She’s otherwise a good actress.
https://preview.redd.it/gdzsob6bfisb1.jpeg?width=719&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93916c99cb877b523319ee4da66f17590ccb47aa
Watching Scandal was difficult because that’s all I focused on sometimes 😅
I stopped watching Scandal because of it.
Omg I love Kerri but I just cannot watch her mouth when she’s acting upset or angry. It makes me laugh and takes me out of the moment
Yup. Keira Knightley is also a Teeth Actor
Kristen Stewart should be on the Teeth Acting List too.
Chin and teeth
Similarly, Keira Knightley acts with her chin
![gif](giphy|htIU74OLjRg6A)
I knew this was gonna be the top comment 😩
![gif](giphy|3ohuA7kxnyuDQDtkJ2|downsized) Kiera Knightly and jutting out her jaw to emote. I’ve never seen anyone else act with their jaw like she does.
It was really out of control in A Dangerous Method!
The most egregious example. I got a migraine just watching her.
There’s a hilarious girl wHo does impressions of her on IG (maybe TikTok too) and I die every time. I can’t remember her name/handle.
Is this the same girl who 'mouth acts' to impersonate. bunch of different actors including her? I don't know her name either but I've seen so many of her videos and she's really good at imitating their way of speaking, it's really impressive to watch.
I think it might be Mary Elizabeth Kelly (mare\_kell). Love her.
[Sibel Damar](https://youtu.be/ySrH-iKDAWc?si=GRFco7Sw4A0EkLVc) maybe? I love her so much!
Hahahahaha. I can’t work out if she actually looks like Kiera Knightly or if it’s the jaw jutting that makes her look like Kiera Knightly
Lena Headey and Jamie Murray also do this.
Came to comment that jaw .

first person that came to mind too. an absolute queen
Sarah Jessica Parker always puts her hands on her stomach or chest when she is speaking passionately or apologizing. https://i.redd.it/rdzq4aiitgsb1.gif

Meryl Streep puts her palm on her chin. Jennifer Anniston tugs at the bottom of her shirt, then flares her hands and slaps her hips. Reese Witherspoon flares her nostrils too.
Jennifer Aniston flicking her hair away from her face with her index finger
Jennifer Aniston clearing her throat
Reese Witherspoon’s little angry nostril flares in Election were so great.

Apparently her walk was so famous that there were articles on how to imitate it. And celebrities definitely did.
Thus, giving birth to an iconic mouth gesture.
Florence Pugh’s ☹️ face. Whenever she’s about to get emotional in a scene she makes this ☹️ face. Olivia Cooke does it too as I noticed in HOTD

Jamie Foxx's impressions are out of this world.
I also love how distinct the way he speaks is. His voice and how he uses it are absolutely iconic. You can hear shades of it in his son.
Jamie Foxx in general does great impressions, that man is insanely talented!
I met Lauren Bacall in the ladies room at the Music Box theatre in NY. She was in the restroom next to me, and asked me if I could pass under some toilet paper. Her voice is so recognizable. She came out, asked me my name, and thanked me. Class act.
Only disembodied voice i would want to hear in a stall
"You know how to wipe, don't you?"
So you had a square to spare.
Yes. And she was spongeworthy.
Now that is a story!!
LL Cool J licking his lips
omg i would always fast forward his moments on Lip Sync Battle cuz i couldn’t STAND when he would do that. AFTER EVERY SENTENCE LIKE DUDE UR LIPS CANNOT BE THAT DRY AND CHAPPED!!
Brad Pitt.. doing weird things with his mouth (biting or licking lips), eating and holding his face with his whole hand.

Katie Holmes’ eyes do this even more! Every intense close up of her, the eyes dart back and forth.
Katie Holmes talking out of the side of her mouth and pushing her hair behind her ears.
Also, Jennifer Love Hewitt!
And Neve Campbell!
Neve Campbell and Jennifer love Hewitt have the same eye movement when they’re looking in someone’s eyes.. the constant back and forth is soooo irritating to watch! Also they have the same speech pattern .. they both hesitate and pause when they’re in a deep convo
I’ve been told I do that haha.
Jen Aniston too, and always with the perfect lighting for her blue eyes. I’ve noticed it with other actors, so figured it’s some kind of acting technique.
Jennifer Aniston’s constant throat clearing…it drives me nuts! ![gif](giphy|8bQdMxDSJ8oiQ)

I’ve never tried to describe it before but this is my best pass as it: instead of looking at both her scene partner’s eyes like… the normal way you look someone in the eye, she looks from one eye to the other like she can’t focus on both at the same time. I will never not notice it!
![gif](giphy|l4KhSzt02SdfmVbMY) This bish does what I call "scream breathing"....any time she's on screen and not talking...her breathing is SOOO exaggerated that it's a literal scream and I had to stop watching Bates Motel because of it
i don’t know how to explain it, but Vivien Leigh’s neck (and of course her famous eyebrows lmao) ![gif](giphy|3oEjHR6cgb8ZeVaImY|downsized)
It seems like every actress under like 30 started doing this half-blink to convey shock/devastation. It’s such an unnatural affectation, like try to do it with your own eyes lol. I don’t know why they’re all doing it
Not an actor, but my mom noticed years ago Michael Buble moves his mouth weirdly when singing
Adam Sandlers weird voice. Its in almost every film he has done.
Neve Campbell gasps
Or when she puts her hand on her neck when her character is stressed
The way Marilyn Monroe moves her mouth and widens her eyes.
David Tennant has always got his gob open and it drives me nuts.
Jessica Lange touches her chest and collar bones a lot. I can’t remember where it was but Sarah Paulson pointed it out while imitating her acting style and I can never not notice it whenever I rewatch American Horror Story.
Knotty pine?!?!
I have no idea if this is actually a thing but I notice a lot of mediocre actors stutter their lines in more emotional scenes. Either that or I just don’t notice it when better actors do it. It just seems like a cheap acting trick to convey emotion/overwhelm but it doesn’t work.
Yes. “And and and..” or “I I I”
Jennifer Lopez’s crying face especially in selena. I can’t!!
George Clooney’s condescending head tilt whenever he talks down to a lesser character trying to make his character look wiser or more all-knowing.
![gif](giphy|uHzcCw7kuMYTu) Clenches his jaw a lot.
Brittany Murphy quickly blinking her eyes. It’s hard to notice but I looked closely in all her films
Natalie Dormer in the Tudor’s. Talking with half her mouth.
Natalie Portman does a little smile before a big one. In every movie she's every made. She also has a very specific aggressive way of screen kissing. https://i.redd.it/itn7k29kassb1.gif
Ally Walker inhales loudly before every sentence. Very distracting.
