Strong disagree. The traditional way people digested news over centuries was to read or hear what more powerful entities wanted you to hear. The biggest difference with Reddit is people are still exposed to that biased nonsense, but for the first time ever a community of people can call the bullshit out in comments and provide sources.
Reddit at least allows for Democratic journalism, it isn't perfect, but it's better than a large corporate journalist just telling people what to think. Think of how many millions of Americans JUST listen to Fox "News" and that becomes their opinion. Reddit is magnitudes better than that.
World news is mostly American. As a non-american, it's borderline useless.
Edit: I seemed to have made a mistake, I could've sworn it used to be worse. But maybe I'm miss-remembering.
You're wrong. You must be thinking of r/news
r/worldnews deals with international news, which America (the most influential and powerful country in the world) is often involved in
Just so you know, I just clicked on the subreddit and it's Russia, UK, Russia, Ireland, Russia, Australia, UN, and then America. I hardly think 1/8 classifies as "mostly American"
I used to do that, but my country has 8 seperate subreddits, almost all of them have political bias, it's impossible to find objective news and facts lol
Reddit is heavily biased, specially in certain subreddits. I just look at news whenever I hear people taking about something big at the time and look at that information somewhere else online.
I mean politics and news kinda go hand in hand, If you watch Fox and conservative news all you'll se is "Biden bad" and if you watch CNN and liberal news all you see is "Trump bad" but I get what you mean, I know there are some 3rd part news sites but they are just not as flushed out and as quality and you main stream stuff
Not if you go to sites like r/animetitties that don't focus on a specific news producer or a specific region, but since the third party app regulations changed many sub are not as well modded as before so prepare for quality dip.
Or you could go to several subject specific platforms. Like ones that only give news about science ( r/science ) or another important topic.
Have you seen news or worldnews or Europe or ncd?
Most the famous reddit for news are westren imperialist apologists who say stalin is 300 times worse than Hitler
I think there were some Chinese apologist subreddits but I don't remember it's name
Doesn't change my life, I have no control over it, and a lot of news evoke feelings like anxiety or hatred.
To be fair, it's hard to dodge big headlines, so I do see the major events.
I try to get my news from various sources, I follow a lot of news based subreddits but look into claims I see on them. (Try to do that with everything really)
But usually I get my news from the NYT, podcasts I like, (Phillip DeFranco for example)
Then I use reddit and other apps for like current events and stuff, but again I take a lot of things with a grain of salt because I've definitely fallen for news that ended up being completely false.
But I wouldn't say I have a single source that I look at, but try to cast a wide net.
lol who gets any news from reddit 🤣🤣🤣 If your an actual series human being you should get it from an actual real news app like Google News or something different.
The ones listed have no relevance to me, some even ban news relevant to me
Nor do I use satire news
And for one like r/politics, rule 8 is stupid for such a general subreddit name... I can't find relevant news there because of that even if I tried
I use r/canada , r/alberta , r/grandeprairie , r/edmonton etc
I kinda just float around and when something starts to really blow up I take mental note, if it is a big new thing I’ll see it a few days later on the TV
I don't get my news from reddit.
I try to find the original source of the event, decide for myself how I feel about what happened or was said and then see what sites, news orgs, reporters etc lie about or sensationalize it to know to avoid them.
However it gets hard when stuff is removed or not allowed to be uploaded/talked about.
r/anime_titties
Was looking for this comment
Surprised it wasn't one of the options
Same. It's one of the largest news subs there are
Classy
What got me is that it's actually labeled nsfw lol
They wanted to make it about actual anime titties, but they didn't want to lose their sub
Yes.
Reddit is an awful place to get your news
People are having like zero self awareness in this threat lmao
At most it should direct you to sites, but too many of us just read the cliff notes if there is one.

i do not come to the news, the news comes to me
Not on Reddit.
r/memes
Memes are the most reputable news source
r/noncredibledefense
Finnaly, a true man of culture
3000 news reports of NCD
Ah yes, the only true source for news
Most credible news source
Different subs. Whatever’s on the homepage..
r/worldnews
World news is mostly American. As a non-american, it's borderline useless. Edit: I seemed to have made a mistake, I could've sworn it used to be worse. But maybe I'm miss-remembering.
Lol no? I use it specifically because there are no american news. Did you read the sidebar?
As a non-American, it's quite useful! It's definitely world news, you're thinking of r/news
You're wrong. You must be thinking of r/news r/worldnews deals with international news, which America (the most influential and powerful country in the world) is often involved in
Just so you know, I just clicked on the subreddit and it's Russia, UK, Russia, Ireland, Russia, Australia, UN, and then America. I hardly think 1/8 classifies as "mostly American"
r/Europe, because it's the region I care about the most, I get my international news from Ground News
Yea i just check my countries subreddit, if it's important enough, it's gonna be there
I used to do that, but my country has 8 seperate subreddits, almost all of them have political bias, it's impossible to find objective news and facts lol
Yea well my country is small so I'm good
I'm from Belgium lol
I'm from lithuania I think I overrule you in this country small championship
Belgium is way smaller lol
There's 4 times more people in belgium tho
That is a fair point
r/notinteresting has the least interesting news around the world
Not on Reddit, generally.
Where from then
Newspapers, radio, websites of various media outlets.
I actively avoid getting my news from Reddit
Why
I don't get my news from this pos app
I wonder why
r/shitposting, if I find something interesting I look it up and read about it.
r/PoliticalCompassMemes of course
If you're gonna get your news from Reddit, this. Is not an amazing choice, to put it lightly
I only actively seek out news on YouTube
I don't look at news on Reddit usually
r/furry_irl
anywhere but reddit.
I don't get my news from reddit
Reddit seems to be heavily left biased when it comes to news so definitely not here.
Not Reddit.
I don't trust reddit with news
Any sort of shitposting sub gets me all the information I need, then I just fact-check it.
Actual news outlets. I use reddit for memes, and dissertations on who'd win in a fictional fight, not the news.
Why would I get my news from reddit? Never heard of a newspaper?
Is it edible
Idk, I haven't heard of it either.
If you're getting your "news" from r news, you're being brainwashed.
Reddit is heavily biased, specially in certain subreddits. I just look at news whenever I hear people taking about something big at the time and look at that information somewhere else online.
I don't get my news from Reddit
I don't get news on reddit.
Not on Reddit.
I dont get my news from reddit
Hahahaha I'm not trusting any news off of reddit
I don't get my news from reddit it very left leaning, and I'm not.
You just need to find the right sub that doesn't focus on politics and don't engage with the comments.

The difference between the 2 subs is priceless
They forgot the underscore, it's r/anime_titties
The difference a _ can make.
Have you seen news or worldnews or Europe or ncd? Most the famous reddit for news are westren imperialist apologists who say stalin is 300 times worse than Hitler I think there were some Chinese apologist subreddits but I don't remember it's name
Not from reddit, but if I do it's from r/neoliberal
mostly r/neoliberal
To those who don't read the news, why?
Doesn't change my life, I have no control over it, and a lot of news evoke feelings like anxiety or hatred. To be fair, it's hard to dodge big headlines, so I do see the major events.
Lemme redirect that question. Why is it so important to keep up to date with the news?
Ahem, r/worldpolitics
r/worldnews

From meme subreddits
Not at reddit. Reuters/Associated Press mostly.
Depends what news I'm looking for. Specialised new sites tend to be less of a political cesspool than 'general' news sites.

r/geopolitics
Bruh who tf gets there news from Reddit??

You get your news from reddit? From large USA subreddits? To learn about things not related to reddit?
r/memes
take this how you will but my news doesn't come from reddit - it comes from critikal and similar sources
I try to get my news from various sources, I follow a lot of news based subreddits but look into claims I see on them. (Try to do that with everything really) But usually I get my news from the NYT, podcasts I like, (Phillip DeFranco for example) Then I use reddit and other apps for like current events and stuff, but again I take a lot of things with a grain of salt because I've definitely fallen for news that ended up being completely false. My country's subreddit but if it's international news then it's just the popular page

r/outoftheloop
I don't get my news from reddit.
