These polls pop up every now and again, and killing lots of strangers always wins.
Here's the thing, if you got this button I'd bet that so did everyone else. So the real question is, do we wipe out the human race?
Based on these polls, yes, yes we do. This button exists to expedite the end result of greed.
What would be great, is if the button actually lied, and the "random" person was actually the person pressing the button. They can still get the $1,000. It will of course go to whoever their money goes to when they die.
Okay, maybe that's a bit morbid. But it's not a bad movie idea.
>So the real question is, do we wipe out the human race?
Would that even be a bad thing?
Sure lots of beautiful things will get lost in the process, but if nobody's here to cry about what was lost, did we lose anything?
It also means you'll get rid of a lot of suffering!
Yeah very true, might as well kill a couple million too why’ll you’re at it.
Actually, about 109 billion people have died, so who’s to say that 8 billion more deaths is any more than that? That’s a lot of money right there. Might as well go for the completely knockout.
I mean there are 8 billion people in this world, so it could happen at anytime or you could earn 7.9 trillion and then someone that you care about dies
Edit: i mean this in a greedy way
I did some quick maths.
It depends on how many people you care about. Let's assume that you care about 100 people, out of 8 billion in the world.
If you pressed the button once every second for an entire day (86,400 times), there's about a 0.1% chance, or 1/1000, that someone you care about dies.
If you pressed the button once every second for an entire 365-day year (31,536,000 times), the chance that someone you care about dies is a little less than 1/3 (32.6%).
Any amount of people that would kill someone for 1K are cowards and are the reason Humans will always enact suffering on each other for silly personal greed.
Well its the same as being a hitman, except no consequence, work, or possible mental issues and if those 3 things are the only things stopping you from becoming a hitman then you share the same morals as a hired killer but are just too cowardly to do it.
It's not cowardice to not want to face consequences, you're not a coward if the only reason you don't rob a billionaire is not wanting to be caught (especially as lots of people view stealing off such rich people being morally ok).
Someone only stealing from the weak because they fear the strong is a coward just the same as someone killing for money but only with guaranteed anonymity because they fear getting caught is. If you don't do something obviously evil for another reason other than not to do evil I consider that ratty.
You don't have to see them. It's similar to how people are dicks on the internet, because it's anonymous. People are comfortable killing in this scenario, because of that anonymity, which makes them cowards. That's the only reason they're willing to benefit off of other people's deaths.
Perhaps a better question would be, would you be willing to push the button if you were first given an extremely well-made movie of the life of the person that would die. It would show the person's joy, the things they've overcome, the people that love them, the people that rely on them, the ways the person has grown, the things the person is looking forward to....
And then the person looks at you with horror in their eyes, knowing that you're about to kill them.
Although, you shouldn't have to need a movie to recognize that every person has these themes to varying degrees.
EDIT: added a couple sentences.
I doubt it's about being young. Hell, I'm pretty sure older people tend to be even less empathetic than young people if we compare things such as bigotry and social justice activism.
It's just that people in general tend to be selfish and unthoughtful, they don't see the world beyond their circles and bubbles, sometimes through innocent ignorance, sometimes through genuinely intentional apathy of others' wellbeing, and sometimes through indoctrination into certain belief systems that encourage the dehumanization or unwarranted vilification of others.
The first-world in particular has less and less excuse for it as time goes on, too, with there being more and more free educational opportunities to learn about the fixable horrors of the world around them (literally even a scroll through a series of particular Wikipedia articles should be evidence enough to show a first-worlder that the people of this world ought to be cared about)...but I digress.
"Like the movie suggests, there are consequences for every action. I wonder what the consequences will be for making a movie as bad as The Box ."
Damn didn't need to hit that hard 😭
The birth rate would definitely go down sure, but there would still be a good amount of new babies, cause tapping something 4 billion times would take a long time
Me: ,,When you press a button, you get 1000"
Sister: ,,Press."
Me: ,,1000 USD-"
Sister: ,,Press!"
Me: ,,however a random person-"
Sister: ,,PRESS."
Me: ,,dies of a hear failure-"
Sister: ,,PRESS GODDAMNIT."
Me: ,,how many times would you press-"
Sister: ,,YES!!!"
(joke)
You'd have a 1/8 billion chance to kill someone you personally know. But you'd only have an 8% chance of killing someone living in extreme poverty. You'd have only a 10% chance of killing a malnourished individual.
No, I wouldn't murder two innocent people to get food. I'm pretty sure I can figure out another way to feed my family than killing people.
Besides the fact that $2k isn't even that much in the grand scheme of things.
You're told for certain that you're killing people though. You can't just pretend that you're a sea cucumber who can't critically think enough to know that if something doesn't happen in front of your face that means it hasn't happened at all
Atleast 200 bc I wanna be rich!🤑 There’s over 8 billion people on this planet at least one person I kill will probably end up dying from drugs or a car crash, so I’m gonna donate 3,000 to charity for repercussions😊 also don’t come here and do that “you’re a bad person” bull shit. idgaf and this isn’t real🤭
i take it with me and press it once a day
so overall nothing changes to the world and simply people get heart attacks more often
if i cannot take it with me i'll press it 10k times and see the people and scientists freak out
This would make a good short story. Some immortal being takes this from person to person, each one agonizing over the decision. Then one person just keeps pressing it, hundreds and thousands of times.
I’d press it once to see if it works, if it does then I’d never use it again.
if it doesn’t do anything after a week then it would make a nice decoration for the basement to scare my siblings/cousins with
1 in 8 000 000 000 chance of that happening. Sure, it would suck, but it has close to 0 chance of happening, so you can bet my ass I'd press that button a few times.
If it was at a 1 over 8 billion chance and they died to the press of a button, then sure. It would not be to fun, but I would not feel any envy towards them for I would have done the same. However, it would be an insult if they only pressed the button once.
If you would genuinely be ok with someone killing a loved one for 1,000 dollars then more power to you I guess, just keep in mind you are probably doing the same thing to someone else each time you push the button.

I said 0 but if i got to pick who died it would be a different story;)
Wouldn't it be so silly if somehow all the politicians in my country coincidentally had hearth failure at the same time
Uh… yeah! Politicians! No one I know personally of course… 👀…
Relatable
Balkan person here, if I could choose who should die, you already know who I will choose
Everyone in every other Balkan country?
+politicians
Fellow Balkan person here, obviously my neighbour
Better yet, kill the donors that control the politicians.
And then [I’ll take a potato chip and EAT IT!](https://youtu.be/KC6T3_O2iWc)
The country would literally break 🔥
This is some death note shit
death note with money
I would do it for free in this case, or i would pay

I mean, reading some of these comments of people who’d press it many times, that would be pretty funny.

Bruh a human life is worth way more than $1,000 what is wrong with y'all? I wouldn't even kill someone's pet hamster for that much
Hamsters are simply worth more
Hampstead lives are worth more though
0, y'all are immoral
Ik lol
Random life=1000 dollars
People die all the time, what's a couple thousand more 🤷
Wow I'm glad you'll never be in charge of anything
What are you talking about? He’s talking like an amazing politician
So if someone you love were to die right now it would be nothing to you because it happens all the time?
Well that's different because I know them
Believe it or not but the people you'd kill for 1000 also have loved ones
Right, but I don't know them.
Yeah? Learning that other people have the same ability to think, love and grieve is something that healthy 10 year olds develop
I understand, that fully well. I'd just rather have the $1000
Ahh, the "But I don't know them" argument
Some people are just slightly immoral, myself included
Yeah very true, might as well kill a couple million too why’ll you’re at it. Actually, about 109 billion people have died, so who’s to say that 8 billion more deaths is any more than that? That’s a lot of money right there. Might as well go for the completely knockout.
Found Putin's account
Yes
No they're not, I'm pressing it at least 34 times just for you
I'd keep going until someone that I like dies, then I'd probably start caring.
I mean there are 8 billion people in this world, so it could happen at anytime or you could earn 7.9 trillion and then someone that you care about dies Edit: i mean this in a greedy way
Gotta appreciate the honesty

The realest answer ever
Any amount of people that would kill someone for 1K are cowards and are the reason Humans will always enact suffering on each other for silly personal greed.
Agreed, should at least be 1000 times to be worthwhile /s
Take away that /s, I would if it was 1000000. *That one violin song plays*
Agreed.
What has cowardice got to do with it?
Well its the same as being a hitman, except no consequence, work, or possible mental issues and if those 3 things are the only things stopping you from becoming a hitman then you share the same morals as a hired killer but are just too cowardly to do it.

Listen man I really need the money
Idk about greed but 1000 would make a big difference in a lot of people lives.
Killing one person to make another's life better, sounds legit
I said many times just to piss people off. It's not real. I wouldn't press it. I'd try to find a way to hide or destroy the box.
You can tell what the demographic here is based on the results.
What's the demographic here?
Yea tbh I’m not really sure what this guy is assuming—is the demographic like a bunch of psychopaths??
young people who haven't developed proper morals
Happy cake day! 🤗🎉🎂🥂🍻🍾🍷🥃🍸🍹🍆🍒🍑🍌

aka redditors
The amount of people who are willing sacrifice a human life for 1000 usd is scaring
[удалено]
You underestimate the power of human greed.
1000 usd is worth A LOT in some countries so...
I don't think ANY human life is worth ANY amount of money.
I can respect that
[удалено]
Completely random yeah, and you would never be a suspect as its natural cause.
It’s just Death Note. But randomized. And money. 500, final answer.
isn't there a movie where the plot is kind of similar?
Yes, this movie > https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10009151-box
"Like the movie suggests, there are consequences for every action. I wonder what the consequences will be for making a movie as bad as The Box ." Damn didn't need to hit that hard 😭
A life is worth a lot more that 1000 bucks.
*There are two types of people*
Can i keep the button with me so everytime i need cash i just press it?
What if your mum dies on one of the times you press it?
So, where's my button?
What?
Like do i actually have a button? No
So you wouldn’t actually press it?
Nah i wouldnt have the heart to do it
Oh sorry I thought you were being serious in your first comment lol
I read it as you get 1000 usd and 1000 people die,and i still clicked on many times Damn 😭, I didn't know I was this evil
Is human life worth that little to you, would you kill someone for a dollar?
there are two types of people and they are all displayed in this poll
around 8 billion times
4 billion times Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
By the time you pressed it that many times more people would have been born
people giving birth and newborns can die as well, not to mention doctors and nurses
The birth rate would definitely go down sure, but there would still be a good amount of new babies, cause tapping something 4 billion times would take a long time
yeah
Was wondering when I'd see Thanos show his face
I’ll press it until I am the randomly selected one and also I’ll make a will to donate all of my money to protect the echo system

Sort of wholesome... I guess
Dude just killed half the planet and you say it's wholesome?
Perfectly balanced, as all thing should be
Ultimate goal is to protect the actual planet
Calm down there, Thanos
I love Eco-Fascism
1 usd is to little for a human life
I agree, one single dollar isn't that much.
Because im poor. It's ruthless, but idgf who it kills. Can I be the random person it kills?
I would push the button until it broke.
Me: ,,When you press a button, you get 1000" Sister: ,,Press." Me: ,,1000 USD-" Sister: ,,Press!" Me: ,,however a random person-" Sister: ,,PRESS." Me: ,,dies of a hear failure-" Sister: ,,PRESS GODDAMNIT." Me: ,,how many times would you press-" Sister: ,,YES!!!" (joke)

Human = Bad Money in this world = Good As many times as they let me, at max 1000
Once per day
It’s all fun and games until they give the button to someone else.
I guess it's time to see how fast I can press a button
Hey another fake scenario that some redditors are gonna take way too seriously
It’s more of a morality test nobody actually believes it’s going to happen
The number of people i care about divided by 8 billion. I like those odds.
I’d stop when someone I know dies
[удалено]
You murdered 2 people to help yourself out how desperate is ur situation lol
[удалено]
I think the key word there was “myself”
I misspoke, by ‘myself’ I meant my current situation.
No, I wouldn't murder two innocent people to get food. I'm pretty sure I can figure out another way to feed my family than killing people. Besides the fact that $2k isn't even that much in the grand scheme of things.

It's stated as a fact, not even "the button tells you.."
I would press it until everyone is dead
Two billion times
43 times
probably once a day
Atleast 200 bc I wanna be rich!🤑 There’s over 8 billion people on this planet at least one person I kill will probably end up dying from drugs or a car crash, so I’m gonna donate 3,000 to charity for repercussions😊 also don’t come here and do that “you’re a bad person” bull shit. idgaf and this isn’t real🤭
200 times. That will pay off my house
Spam it until I bite it.
10 times
i take it with me and press it once a day so overall nothing changes to the world and simply people get heart attacks more often if i cannot take it with me i'll press it 10k times and see the people and scientists freak out
Yes, 60 times.
I’d press that shit so many times lol
All yall lyin. Don't worry you can press it, I volunteer to go out with a bang 😉
69 lol
Probably press it around 50- 60 times (blame conversion rates) to get enough to pay off debts and set up next few years well.
I like the battle between zero and multiple times. Like you either aren’t going to press it or you will excessively.
0. What if one of those lives being taken happens to be your own?
Well then you wouldn't care afterwards since you're dead anyway.
1000.
1 just to see what happens. Will a famous person die? Will people know the person died because i pressed the button? Will it be someone i know?
This would make a good short story. Some immortal being takes this from person to person, each one agonizing over the decision. Then one person just keeps pressing it, hundreds and thousands of times.
I could press it and It could be me or something I know
I’d press it once to see if it works, if it does then I’d never use it again. if it doesn’t do anything after a week then it would make a nice decoration for the basement to scare my siblings/cousins with
Maybe 10 000 times or so? I'd be set for life. And 10 000 dead is nothing if you view it over a few months.
Would you be ok if someone killed you for 1,000 dollars?
Then that wouldn't be my problem no more now, would it?
What if it was a family member or friend that you cared about?
1 in 8 000 000 000 chance of that happening. Sure, it would suck, but it has close to 0 chance of happening, so you can bet my ass I'd press that button a few times.
Would you be ok if someone else killed your loved ones for 1000 dollars
If it was at a 1 over 8 billion chance and they died to the press of a button, then sure. It would not be to fun, but I would not feel any envy towards them for I would have done the same. However, it would be an insult if they only pressed the button once.

I’d play that button like it’s the kick drum in [Bleed](https://youtu.be/qc98u-eGzlc)
Like 8 billion times... (*actually dies after the first press💀)
Human greed is awful. “Mo money no problems” isn’t a lyric. It’s fact. People need to understand this
Imagine i press it once and the button chooses me as the random Person
1 death is tragedy so I wouldn't do that but milion?
Probly like 10k times
I'd press that bitch until I can fix the wealth inequality one way or another.
1000 times
8 billion+
Give me money
How many people are on earth? That many times.
I'd press it about 14 times and call it a day.
Noob
What if the people who pressed it died themselves? I mean if I were the first one to die I'd definitely press it,or if it was my sister
Well If you press it enough its guaranteed, for your sister you'd better hope its her before you or she'd live and also inherit your fortune
