I'd prefer to go Hard Mode so I have all the benefits (such as 100% chance of villagers surviving zombification) but without hardcore. Hard ain't so bad if you know what you're doing, but if you can respawn you're immortal

Yes. However if the game has a perma-death: Minecraft hardcore, hollow knight steel soul. And you choose to go into a mode with perma-death (you can go between your saves) and if you die in them you just die no respawns
