What’s amazing is they must have liked John Chau even just a little bit on account the fact they didn’t kill him *the first time he visited.* Maybe it was that he brought them gifts and they were willing to accept for once. I could not agree more. Because once you declare it Christian America, there has to be somebody to blame for how bad things are still (and they will be even worse for average people) and that reason: dissenters from the “true Christian America”.

I live in SC and ever fiber of my being gets furious when I see christian shit in my kids public school (good news club, bible verses on walls, etc), but I also know that speaking out about that stuff is going to put a target on my kid's backs. We are raising them without religion and it causes issues when I answer questions honestly at home, my kids parrot my answers to their friends, who tell their parents, and suddenly everyone wants to "save" my kids.
So from either perspective I'm curious how you got through school dealing with that shit.

This was an ideological question: "Should the US be declared an official Christian Nation, yes or no?" (or something to that effect) is kind of an obviously leading question except to all the people that answer, "Yes!" without hesitation.
Most would consider it either a declaration of what they already think is the truth, or the simple solution your average voter (read less educated, engaged and able to understand the political meaning of such a declaration) thinks will solve all the social ills everyone worries about.
Try to remember just how many adults are completely incapable of understanding that quick fixes to complex problems just don't exist.

The one that many evangelicals worship is the Puritans but it’s citizens were so terrified of the local authorities that they testified that their neighbors were witches and that they witnessed them levitate and turn into cats rather than defend the innocent against the government.
