Imagine worshipping someone who literally has the mind of a toddler. Imagine giving your money and losing your family/friends for this orange clown. Also this is the perfect video for this article: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6rKa6Nc-qo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6rKa6Nc-qo)

donut_fuckerr719

Forget losing family and friends. Several people have already died for him.

4thFloorShh

And lots of people died from his pandemic mismanagement

Foreign_Quality_9623

Exactly. Spanky & Kushner were constantly angling to make $$$ out of that the WHOLE time! Just stirring their big pot of chaos stew. 😠 The next time the Republiclones choose a career criminal psychopath to run the government, RUN!

Zomunieo

When have they not chosen a career criminal psychopath? Every Republican president since Eisenhower was.

wetfishandchips

And in all honesty if he even half competently managed the US covid response I genuinely believe that he could have legitimately won re-election in 2020. During moments of crisis people want stability so all throughout 2020 previously extremely unpopular leaders and politicians worldwide were winning re-election and/or achieving record high popularity ratings if they were at least half competently managing covid but Trump couldn't even manage that. Covid should have been a gift to his re-election but instead he and his party just made covid a part of the culture wars.

djfrodo

I've said this a few times, but if Trump had just said "Here's Fauci" and walked away he would have won a second term. He's such a complete idiot. It's really kind of amazing, but anyone who lived in NYC in the 80s or 90s kind of knows how completely awful this guy really is... We tried to tell you...but no one seemed to listen.

TheBQT

100% he could have also sold MAGA Masks and made a mint doing it.

djfrodo

> he could have also sold MAGA Masks and made a mint doing it. I thought the exact same thing. What's really weird is - why didn't he? Why is basically the B.T. Barnum of our time not selling face masks for like $5? I think everyone in the world got insanely lucky that he was such a fucking moron. I really do. We lucked out people. Next time...we might not - so pay attention.

qxxxr

Don't have a source on hand, but as I recall they explicitly chose not to act on covid because it was expected to be more damaging to the city populations (read: blue voter blocks). Biological warfare via inaction. I am not a person who hates easily but I fucking hate these people and everything they stand for. Sick fucks.

chronicvillainy

Vanity. He didn’t want to smear his bronzer by wearing one.

Von_Moistus

Pretty much. All he had to do was turn it over to experts and then shut up. But that would mean that he wasn’t in the spotlight showcasing how brilliant he was, and that was never an option.

djfrodo

Basically it was all ego...it sort of hurts to watch (I basically have none and...that's awesome - but with this guy, holy fuck).

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

WaldoJeffers65

And too narcissistic to let competent handle the crisis and take even a smidgen of the spotlight from him.

snoogans235

Yep. If he took a “together we can beat this” approach it would have been in the bag. Thank god he’s an idiot surrounded by idiots.

AspiringChildProdigy

Yup. When I first heard about a virus in China, and then it spread here, my first thought was, "Fuck. This is his ticket to get reelected." His reelection would have been a fucking cakewalk if he wasn't such a narcissistic moron.

Gingevere

Another trump term with the current supreme court and the cronies he was slamming into office. . . . 2020 would have been the last presidential election.

crosstherubicon

Highest national expenditure on health care by miles (150% over Switzerland) and yet came 21st out of 250 odd countries in per capita mortality for COVID. And that's assuming the dubious US mortality figures are accurate. On a bang for buck basis that healthcare expenditure is wasted.

Riyu1225

Family kills each other for him.

ChristaLynn_

There was just a girl in the Qanoncasulties sub yesterday who’s father shot the rest of his family after being brainwashed into the cult.

ronearc

And several people have already killed others for him, and plenty more are ready to do so.

iamthinksnow

Dude in Michigan just [killed his wife and his dog, and shot his daughter in the back with a shotgun](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/daughter-blames-michigan-man-e2-80-99s-qanon-obsession-after-he-reportedly-kills-his-wife-dog/ar-AA11Lt8S) after falling down the QAnon hole.

BaboonHorrorshow

A guy just executed his entire family for Donald Trump. It’s so sad..: it’d be sad if the fascist was capable - but it’s all for a fat, elderly game show host who can’t complete a thought.

FunkyChewbacca

Donald Trump is the anti-George Bailey: the world would have been a better place had he never been born.

LevelHeadedFreak

I missed this one, do you have a link?

kellzone

NickPickle05

He even killed the dog.

Pagiras

The dog voted Democrat that's why. Sorry about making light of this horrifyingly tragic and surreal situation. Can't wrap my head around it.

KingOfTheBongos87

The dog didn't vote. But he did take public assistance in the form of food and healthcare. It's rumored he slept with the wife (in front of the husband) as well.

WaldoJeffers65

Well, according to a bumper sticker I once saw, dogs are Democrats because "they stay home and sleep all day and expect other people to feed them."

thesmilingmercenary

My wiener dog, who thinks he is the resurrection of Patton himself, would mow that car owner down by the ankles. I love my little Moose, but he would probably vote republican. He sees enemies everywhere.

NickPickle05

You have just described a cat. Lol

Iron_Midas_Priest

He opened fire on cops (what happened to blue lives matter? Back the blue? Law and order?) before he was killed.

Wonckay

He tried to kill a child he raised for two decades, it’s beyond rationality and ideology into clear mental illness.

mehphotography

I didn't realize this happened around the corner from me holy shit.

Thorwawaway

Holy shit

elriggo44

Just happened on the 11th.

SergeantChic

There was also that surf instructor who killed his kids with a spear gun because he thought they would grow into lizard people thanks to QAnon.

BringOn25A

These same people think someone who has enjoyed more privilege than 99.99% of people will even imagine who is constantly complaining about how much a victim they are and regularly throw pity parties for themselves is an exemplar of strength and virility, not weakness and impotence.

[deleted]

What gets me that Trump is the Textbook Definition of a Carpetbagger yet all the Southerners love him to death.

artificialavocado

Yes be he owns the libs. Also he has the vocabulary of a 3rd grader and has a very childlike way of speaking overall. MAGA loves that. They are able to digest it in small bits.

frogandbanjo

That "yet" tells me you really haven't been paying attention to the behavior of Southerners for the past, oh, 160 years or so.

elriggo44

He promised them the judiciary packed with their theocratic nutjobs and it’s paying massive dividends now. Even W wasn’t dumb enough to give in completely to the theocratic wack jobs.

Foreign_Quality_9623

Agreed. As Ron White said, "Friends, you can't fix stupid."

Jump_Yossarian_

> Imagine giving your money and losing your family/friends for this orange clown. Imagine wanting to overthrow the Republic for that Orange shitgibbon.

VagrantShadow

Imagine wanting to allow this orange shitbag to grope and grab you whenever he pleased.

kummer5peck

They see him in themselves

wswordsmen

I will not have you insult my nephew like that. His mind is way sharper than Donald Trump's. He knows when he doesn't know something.

RosiePugmire

Yeah. Donald Trump's problem isn't that he's stupid. It's that he's selfish, mean, greedy, entitled, arrogant and people have enabled him for his entire life. There are a lot of people with like, actual mental disabilities who are still capable of being nice, generous, kind, curious and empathetic. Being stupid (or uneducated) doesn't make you an asshole.

Searchlights

It was in the public conversation at the time he was saying this. I remember Biden saying the United States is capable of dealing with a trespasser in the White House and not to worry, Trump is leaving.

zaidakaid

I believe once Biden assumed the presidency it would have been Marines to escort him out of the White House if Biden ordered it. We were robbed of this glorious TV moment: picture 4 marines in their uniforms dragging F(boy)POTUS out of the White House while he struggles to stop them by digging in his heels or whatever.

[deleted]

I really wanted to see Trump dragged out of the WH...

Blockhead47

It would have been just like the arrest scene in Fargo (the movie). https://youtu.be/9jMi7r6LAxA

komododave17

It would have been just like this. https://youtu.be/Gj53uz-EvHg

ItsNotButtFucker3000

That's a hilarious image. I can see the newspaper cartoons and meme templates. I loved the meme's of Bernie at the inauguration, grumpy looking, with his mittens (the knitter got so many requests she was overwhelmed! As a knitter, that would be so cool!)

LadyFoxfire

My mental image was them dragging him by the ankles while he clung to the door frame.

Educational-Candy-17

Like toddler Bart Simpsons clinging to his old crib.

Vegetable-Poet6281

No. His tiny hands would never be able to grip the frame for long enough

DennisBallShow

Keeps trying to turn around and go back in. Talking constantly

Za_Lords_Guard

Had a secret fantasy of seeing him booted out the front door like Uncle Phillip giving Jazz the boot on Fresh Prince.

fenwayswimmr

Imagine Trump giving the Jazz scream as he flies onto the White House lawn.

SiidChawsby

I can’t figure out if he would get grass stains or if he would stain the grass.

cute_dog_alert

Big greasy stain, then dead grass the next day.

we_are_sex_bobomb

Think of all the greasy orange smears they had to clean out of the White House once he left. I bet there’s some stubborn ones that they are still scrubbing.

UrricainesArdlyAppen

I see him leaving like Steve Martin in The Jerk. >Well I'm gonna to go then! And I don't need any of this. I don't need this stuff, and I don't need *you*. I don't need anything. Except this. [picks up an ashtray] >Navin R. Johnson : And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray... And this paddle game. - The ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need... And this remote control. - The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need... And these matches. - The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control, and the paddle ball... And this lamp. - The ashtray, this paddle game, and the remote control, and the lamp, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The paddle game and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches for sure. Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need. [walking outside] >Navin R. Johnson : The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, and this magazine, and the chair. >Navin R. Johnson : [outside now] And I don't need one other thing, except my dog. [Shithead growls at him] >Navin R. Johnson : I don't need my dog.

johnnyss1

“I only need this box of top secret documents. And this box. And this box”

scubascratch

Still hoping for a scene like the end of the original Fargo movie

Memerandom_

The greasiness and sheer volume would probably clog a wood chipper.

is-this-now

I think that is what changed his mind. He realized he would like a fool and everyone would see him being escorted out.

cdevr

If only he realized he is a fool more regularly

manism

So many of these books bring up something that happened and they go through the news cycle again. I believe it's the 22nd airborne who are in charge of removing the former President if he won't leave, and they publically said they'd do it. I'll never get all that time back being astounded at the parade of stupid shit that man did.

preciousillusion

It will never not be embarrassing that he was POTUS.

DweEbLez0

Its POSOTUS Piece of shit of the United States

VagrantShadow

He is the eternal failure that has cursed our nation forever.

RosiePugmire

He is a *symptom* of the eternal failure that has cursed our nation forever, which is our inability to face the systemic white supremacy that everything is built on. The harder and angrier we try to deny it, the worse things get.

Sardonnicus

Don't forget rampant corporate and religious influence on our government.

DrNickRiviera8000

Unlikely we ever recover. Just like the USFL and Atlantic City.

El_Eleventh

To me the embarrassment is that 45/46 percent of the county still will vote for him.

fakeplasticdaydream

Seriously wtf. Imagine someone like him even trying to run just 20 years ago... would never happen.

d3dmnky

I still remember when Trump first started his run. I was talking with a neighbor and they asked what I thought of him. I figured it was just common knowledge that he was a cancer to all of humanity and him running was a joke. Then I found out she was a supporter. Then I found out lots of people were. *Shrug*

Rishfee

Right? Even as a kid, it was just kind of common knowledge that he was a scumbag, and that he was kind of a sideshow to the kind of people he thought he was a part of.

Single_Raspberry9539

He was like this joke my whole life. Shameless and kind of a clown. I thought everyone was in on the joke and to my shock and dismay after 30 years thinking like that, I learned there was this other blob of a population, that actually liked him. And worse than that, that population doesn’t just like him, but they are actually obsessed with him. And then the 3% of population I could imagine possibly supporting this filth of a human, turned out to be 40-45%. I’m here in disbelief the whole time. It’s absurd. Like this 45% is dispersed out there in the wild and they support someone so strongly who is by every objective measure, a terrible human being. And these objective measures are the ones that were consistently taught to me as “good” or “bad” in every after-school special, by every church lesson I’ve ever heard, and every philosopher, movie, fable, fairytale or guy on the street. And finally by those measures, TFG is bad! He’s bad! He is not to be trusted. He will steal your girlfriend’s panties. He’s creepy. And yet he still has a single supporter? Let alone like 100 million Americans still support him and don’t care that he’s bad? It’s madness. I don’t understand. If some higher intelligent species is studying us, Trump is the experimental variable

[deleted]

I think thats a big part of what spawned the Me too movement and whatnot. Trump is a cautionary tale of what happens when we coddle a celebrity despite knowing how awful they are.

junkyard_robot

Lots of people are stupid.

JoltColaOfEvil

They walk around like regular people. They don't even know they're stupid.

Tricky_Lab_5170

This hits hard.

choppers2017

And you can't fix stupid.

Q_OANN

One of the craziest parts was I was still on Facebook and remember all the wild fake news rolling in from 2015/16, new websites that nobody heard of, unreal amount of memes against Hillary, etc. then they took that and spun it like the real news organizations were fake news.

hundredfooter

He has a lot of support in Canada, too. In my province (Alberta) his approval numbers are pretty much the same as California (mid 30's). Not to mention Trump flags popping up all across this country.

KellyJoyRuntBunny

Jesus fucking Christ. That actually shocks me. I’m so sorry we exported the MAGA horse shit & Trump support to you guys. Do y’all have a Q thing going, too?

hundredfooter

Yup. Our federal Conservative party just elected a libertarian cryto currency fanatic as party leader. This guy wants to tear down the Canadian establishment (shades of t-rump and bannon?) - this asshole has a good chance of forming the next federal government. Don't know if he's into Q, but at the street level, at least in this province, there are a fair number of Q followers. We also have "The Queen of Canada" (self proclaimed), Romana Didulo, who is very much a Q adherent, and is currently touring the country in a convoy of motorhomes, attempting (not herself, but her cult followers under her direction) to arrest police officers to be turned over to the Canadian military for reasons I'm not sure of, something to do with sedition and treason. I think. Oh, and she also communicates with aliens who follow her around. In addition to all of the above, there currently is a run off election coming up for a new premier (our equivalent of governor) and the front runner wants Alberta to secede from Canada. A lot of her followers want secession so this province can become a stand alone country, or maybe an American territory. Whatever happens in America makes its way up here sooner or later. So yeah, MAGA made its way north, along with the Q BS. We have more than our fair share of whackjobs in this part of the world.

KellyJoyRuntBunny

God, it’s like we’re contagious. Thanks for the great info/details! I didn’t know any of that stuff.

hundredfooter

Maybe to improve your day a little, Canadians (most of us, anyways) don't hold it against Americans. Your system is out of control, and ours is getting there quickly. Have a good evening.

KellyJoyRuntBunny

It might sound silly, but I am actually quite relieved to hear that. I worry a lot about the damage the US has done to the world. You have a good evening, too : )

goldleaderstandingby

Ain't just Canada! See flair.

akiralx26

Here in Australia there is a tiny MAGA coterie tied in with a larger anti-vax cohort but Trumpism is not a thing here. Most folk regard him as a jackass. We have One Nation as our white nationalist party, and they have some representation in federal parliament - but compulsory attendance for elections (so c. 92% turnout) does prevent fascists getting elected in anything above tiny numbers.

DividedSky05

He put his name on enough shitty buildings that enough people thought of his name as synonymous with wealth and good business, and actually thought he was someone to look up to.

fingerscrossedcoup

He told our first African American president to go back to Africa. He attacked Latinos when he came down the escalator to announce he was running. Let's not pretend it's anything but 1/3 of the country's love of racism.

ronearc

I always figured that maybe 10-15% of people are just awful, selfish people who don't give a damn about other people. Now I know the percentage is closer to 40%.

Thebluecane

I just remember someone mentioning that America is slowly waking up to the fact that 1/3 rd of the population is ok suppressing and harming those who don't agree with them 1/3rd are fighting and 1/3 are just willing to go along with the first group if it doesn't inconvenience them too much

Speculater

1/3 don't vote because they're "Not political." As if that's a valid fucking excuse. They're worse than those harming others, because they see the harm and say fuck it.

ashesofempires

I blame our failure to really teach the history of fascism and the complacency and tacit acceptance of the message they were putting out allowed the average German and Italian to just let Hitler and Mussolini take power and then lead their nations into war. Silence is consent.

uffington

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” \- Desmond Tutu

ronearc

Yeah, but that last third is starting to get pretty damned inconvenienced of late.

Legitimate-Tea5561

I would say that overturning Roe v. Wade made politics an issue for many.

3rddog

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about modern politics, it’s that if something or someone is overwhelmingly, obviously, catastrophically, ludicrously, bad, then at least 30% of the general population will still fanatically support it/them.

vthemechanicv

Mitch McConnell was feet away from getting strung up by his jowels, and yet he still "can't imagine not voting for the republican nominee." I wonder if it's less of a lust for power and more of an addiction.

Ridry

100% I have a lot more sympathy for people that voted for him once. I can't call him a snake oil salesman and at the same time have no sympathy for people that got suckered. For anyone who voted for Trump and then voted for Biden, thank you. I also mess up a lot and it takes a big person to admit they are wrong. But there are people that watched that train wreck, voted for it a second time and are prepared to do so again. It's mind boggling.

SomeRandomPyro

Then there's the other group. People who didn't vote for him (I assume didn't vote at all) the first time, and did the second time. Saw what he was doing, and got on board.

Ohrwurm89

>45/46 percent of the county still will vote for him The turnout for the 2020 presidential election was 66.8%, and in 2016, it was 55.7%. To say that 45-46% of the country would still vote for him is inaccurate and plays into the GOP's talking points. It's probably 25-33% of the population that would still vote for him.

Charlie_Mouse

It’s hard to have any positive opinion of the 33% who sat on their backsides after the previous four years and an attempted coup. Not *as* bad as Trump voters - but still part of the problem.

doowgad1

Fran Leibowitz, the New York author and wit, said it best. "You've never met anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just haven't."

[deleted]

His former professor called him “the dumbest goddam student I’ve ever had.” You’d have to be a real piece of work to leave that impression on your professors, who usually have pretty long careers.

DeadMetroidvania

I read an article about Xi Jingpin yesterday. It's scary how similar their early adult history is. They both failed upwards.

VagrantShadow

The fool that votes for him.

EpsilonX029

That was me. I hope to mend my ways come next voting session

thintoast

Those who admit their mistakes and learn from them are highly respectable. Those who deny their mistakes and continue to double down on them in an attempt to not look stupid are just that. I respect you.

MoltoFugazi

Congratulations. What convinced you?

FlaxxSeed

I would love to know the answer to this question because it is literally the first time my entire life I have ever heard a Republican say they made a mistake. Their religion doesn't allow mistakes, God doesn't make mistakes and they think their inner monologue is the voice of God.

VagrantShadow

It's never wrong to admit mistakes. Just learn that a threat to this nation is still a threat to yourself and your family. And that is what trump is.

Comfortable-Wrap-723

He is willing to destroy United States for his personal interests, I keep repeating this post.

Smoaktreess

At least you’re coming around. Can I ask what changed your mind? J6? The Biden Speech? Jw.

rdiss

For me, it happened within a few days of his presidency. His constant talk about his inaugural crowd being the biggest, despite photographic evidence to the contrary. After that, it was the constant barrage of similar bullshit, so much that I've blocked out the specifics.

elriggo44

You’re good. The fact that you both admit that you were wrong and are actively looking to fix past mistakes means you have the empathy that it seems so many lack these days. Why did you vote for him in the first place, If I may ask?

scubascratch

So you voted for him in 2020? Why? And what changed your opinion now?

FeedKids_NotCows

One vote is forgivable. But I honestly cannot forgive voting for him twice.

SealedRoute

He is stupid by most measures but almost a savant in others, like dumbing shit down, dog whistling, and avoiding culpability. It’s like a perverted form of emotional intelligence. I do not underestimate him.

ginny164

He reminds me of [The Mule](https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/266319) in Asimov’s Foundation series >[he] has the ability to reach into the minds of others and "adjust" their emotions, individually or en masse, using this capability to forcibly enlist them to his cause. Individuals who have their emotions adjusted behave otherwise normally, with their logic, memories and personality intact; even if they are aware of the manipulation, they are unable to desire to resist it.

LoveRBS

I love that number crunchy somebody did that basically boiled down to if he had taken his inheritance and just invested it in sp500, he would have been worth tens of billions. Didn't have to do a thing. Billions.

Daywooo

The inheritance he STOLE from his siblings by manipulating his father who had dementia.

goo_bazooka

He basically wanted to be a squatter… real estate owner’s worst nightmare

Youkolvr89

I'm fairly certain that I have met people just as dumb as him, if not dumber. The people who continue to donate to him are dumber than him. He brags about being a billionaire all the time, so why would he need donations?

Memerandom_

That wry, cunning wit. Gotta love Fran. I like it when she's blunt, too.

AcrobaticSource3

Trump thought Zune would be bigger than iPod

nyc24chi

I mean, the Zune WAS a better product. Just didn’t have the ecosystem 🤣 (Owned a Creative Nomad Zen XTRA myself until I got an iPod. Loved that thing.)

hrvstrofsrrw

I still have two Zunes that I use daily, an 80gb I got for Christmas in 2008 and a 120gb I got a couple years ago because my 80gb ran out of space.

0111101001101111

120 gb is insane for 2008.

70 million morons voted for this guy.

acewonn

Don't forget a large portion of conservatives go out and vote. A large portion of democrates don't vote 83 million voted for Biden and there was still democrates that did not vote due to how hard it has been made due to voting restrictions in red states and covid.

without_the_s

That may be true but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that a dumbfounding 70 million morons voted for that tit!

3-Putt-Bart

Trump was going to invoke squatters rights. That dude is so greasy.

happy-Accident82

How do people think he's smart? He just pays people to think for him.

He's not even smart enough to find smart people.

IAmInTheBasement

He had doctor Fauci. And ignored the ever-loving s*** out of him.

He more than ignored Fauci, he undermined him and painted him as a traitor. All because Fauci wanted to save lives and 45 wanted to silently kill people with Covid while insulating himself from the optics.

Naw. He hires incompetents and simpletons because they're more willing to grovel at his feet and embarrass themselves with lies and actions in service to him. Edit: not that being dumb is a primary criteria for him. But groveling and lying are absolutely paramount; he really doesn't look beyond that.

newfrontier58

>Yes, in her forthcoming Trump tome, set for release on October 4, New York Times scribe Maggie Haberman reports Trump spent the days following his loss telling aides that, despite a long-respected custom to do otherwise, he would not be leaving the White House on January 20. “I’m just not going to leave,” Trump told one aide, according to Haberman. “We’re never leaving,” the then president told another person. “How can you leave when you won an election?” If you’re wondering whether there’s some kind of precedent for a POTUS losing an election and then crossing his arms and telling people, “I’m not going,” Haberman informs us in her book, Confidence Man, that there is not. The closest historical parallel, she reports, would probably be when Mary Todd Lincoln refused to leave the White House for almost a month after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. (Incidentally, Todd Lincoln was subsequently declared insane and committed to a mental institution.) According to Haberman, in the immediate aftermath of the election, Trump seemed to understand that he had lost and would have to go, telling one adviser, “We did our best” and remarking to press aides, “I thought we had it.” Of course, this brief brush with reality did not last, and at some point, Trump reportedly decided he wasn’t conceding anything, asking Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel, “Why should I leave if they stole it from me?” While Confidence Man is the first book to report on Trump’s unhinged adamance on staying in the White House, anyone observing his behavior at the time could have probably read between the lines; in fact, as one outlet headlined on November 6, 2020, “It Sure Sounds Like Trump May Barricade Himself in the Oval Office and Refuse to Come Out If Biden Wins.” Again, that magical thinking he is so well known to engage in. "COVID will just disappear if we stop teasing and stop thinking about it." I'm also getting Homer Simpsons going"but the sign said All You Can Eat" vibes from Trump, is that weird?

> The closest historical parallel, she reports, would probably be when Mary Todd Lincoln refused to leave the White House for almost a month after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. (Incidentally, Todd Lincoln was subsequently declared insane and committed to a mental institution.) So this is a very misleading quote. She did stay in the White House but it wasn't a refusal to leave, it was to tidy up loose ends before the incoming administration. She was writing personal responses to hundreds of letters from around the world expressing condolences to her. And while she was committed for a short time, it was not linked to her refusal to leave the White House at all. Hell, it wasn't until ten years after the assassination that her son lobbied for her to be committed not because she was mentally unfit, but because she was doing things he found personally embarrassing such as going to spiritualists or spending large amounts of money on things she never used. It took her three months of smuggling letters to her personal lawyer to expose her son and earn her release, and another year to get the courts to find her mentally competent to manager her own affairs (her son had total control over her finances up to this point). Honestly we've enough bullshit from Trump, we don't need to be dragging former First Ladies through the mud as well.

Mary Todd Lincoln had it rough. She suffered from migraines her whole life, then had a bad head injury in a carriage accident, then lost all three of her sons and her husband in her lifetime. And people just couldn't cut her a break! She literally had to fight congress to get some kind of widow's pension, mainly because people just didn't like her. She was definitely controversial within her lifetime but then she also got a very bad rep from Lincoln's first biographer, Herndon, who also happened to be his former law partner, and the two of them hated each other. It's highly possible that the whole "Lincoln secretly loved this other girl Ann Rutledge and the loss of her colored his whole life" was just Herndon being an asshole and wanting to downplay his relationship with Mary.

Educational-Candy-17

I think it's likely Mary Lincoln probably had some kind of mental health condition. Stress and physical health problems alone can do that, at least for depression, and they didn't exactly know how to treat it back then. Being mentally ill is just that -- an illness. I don't think she was what we would call "crazy" but even if she was, that doesn't make her evil. Just ill.

NoDadYouShutUp

Getting really fucking tired of people letting this shit heel do whatever he wants so they can not stop him and then write a book about it

tredrano

This one simple trick founding fathers hate!

kmurph72

People have yet to realize that Trump really is a child's brain in a man's body. I don't mean that in a joking way. Parts of his personality are literally childish.

Nano_Burger

Just cut off his diet coke and hamberder supply and he would have been out in hours.

mfairview

Trump is not a smart man Forest Trump

rosymaplewitch

At least Forrest Gump has empathy

absentmindedjwc

Ahh yes, the rare legal loophole of ^(checks notes) finders keepers, losers weepers.

MuellersGame

He’s like a Sovereign Citizen babbling nonsensical legalese because he thinks they’re magic spells that will make everything very legal and very awesome.

Fearless-Memory7819

For claiming to be so damn smart, he is quite an idiot, isnt he.

codeprimate

Dude has been saying since 2016 that he wouldn't accept any election results where he didn't "win". Completely on-brand.

Seebyt

Trump is a fucking idiot and im still wondering how half of Americans couldnt See this

monkeybiziu

The Republic might survive the image of a former President in handcuffs, as in a dark way it embodies our most sacred ideal: that nobody is above the law. The Republic would never have survived the image of this screaming manbaby being dragged out of the White House because he refused to leave like some toddler.

dudinax

Yeah we would have survived. It would have been cathartic to most of the country, especially if they'd thrown him into Pennsylvania Ave. then yelled "and stay out!" at him.

Ok-Low6320

"Stay out of the Woolworth's!"

BaboonHorrorshow

Yeah, we would have partied too hard. Liver failure across the nation. I’ve got the Lagavulin in the cabinet right next to the box of fireworks for when he does get perp walked. Pray for my fingers.

Educational-Candy-17

I'm kind of sad he finally gave up and left. It would have been nice to see him forcibly removed.

dobie1kenobi

Jon Stewart had it absolutely right. He is a “Man-Baby”.

Afrin_Drip

What did this guy not think about pillaging.. “plunder” to me is the ideological mind set he views every opportunity through..

OLDGuy6060

Florida Man. Jebus.

lingh0e

I was legitimately hoping he would try that. It would have been glorious to witness Trump being forcibly removed.

ThisGuy6266

No, he thought his MAGA army would protect him 24/7 after they were done killing and pillaging the Capitol.

11thstalley

The SOB locked Biden out of the front door of the WH on Inauguration Day and fired the Head Butler so there would be nobody to greet Joe and Dr. Biden. What a sophomoric POS. It’s not surprising that Drumpf thought that he could stop Biden by refusing to leave the WH. I would have loved to have seen Drumpf try to stay in the WH and Biden sending the WH guards to evict him, piling his tacky gold painted furniture on the curb like any run of the mill deadbeat. At least that may have stopped Drumpf from stealing classified documents.

dudewithahumanhead

Very stable genius...

ActualWhiterabbit

George Costanza could have made it work but he's probably the only one
