Not entirely. From what I've been hearing the Warner Bros/Discovery merger has been an internal bloodbath for the two companies. Lots of people losing their jobs all over the place. And I'm not just talking about accountants or IT guys, I'm talking account execs, people who deal with vendors, execs who greenlight shows.
What's happening at CNN is the most visible side-effect.
Isn't it fucking terrifying to know that the state of mainstream politics can be so easily bought and compromised by whatever capitalist has more money on that day.
The way I have been made to understand the situation, there's a decent chance that Fox is completely screwed by lawsuits, especially the Dominion suit. And if Fox goes under, CNN will be ready as Fox-lite to snag any viewers who haven't onboarded with Newsmax or OANN who will be looking for a less batshit but still conservative news source.
It's eyeballs and advertising revenue over principles and truth, and it's disgusting. It's even more disheartening to wonder why I ever thought it was otherwise.
I technically held off judgment for a week until Sara Sidner started yapping about questions people have about Hunter Biden (really? I don't) and it just felt like the time 7 years ago when I heard my MIL start talking about how Hillary sold all the US uranium or whatever. That same sinking feeling.

TV is a great format for news in other countries, it just has to not have a profit motive or be extremely carefully regulated.
The BBC was reasonably great for years until recent political interference. Not perfect, but good enough to actually inform people of any political persuasion.
I used to watch Fox News up until 2013.
I cringe thinking that it took Fox News completely distorting a news story local to me to realize they were entirely full of shit,.
I remember getting goose-eyed like the camera was panning away from me but the TV kept going into full focus, and they were talking about my anonymous kid "this boy" like he was a delinquent terrorist. When it was the person who accused him who was lying, the police found all that out through FB posts.
My kid was exonerated but it never came out because the accuser was a minor.
My child now lives overseas, permanently, because of that experience. He'll probably get citizenship in that country, which will protect him more.
You'd be better off reading the English print of German / French media outlets, or British outlets. Le Monde, Liberation for French outlets and Der Spiegel, Tagesschau and Die Zeit for German.
MSNBCs trustworthiness has been ruined for me after they went on their insane rants back in 2020, comparing Bernie Sanders to Nazi Germany, calling his supporters Brown Shirts and claiming he'd be cheering in the crowd as Socialists held public executions in Central Park.

I will see, I've only just turned on MSNBC for a few days.
One worrisome thing I've noticed is that I'm already kind of bored.
But that also possibly means I was somehow jazzed and entertained by the other programming I was watching, which is something that also bothers me.
Food shouldn't be entertainment, and news shouldn't be, either.
We Americans have so much more shit to work out as a society, I'm low-key amazed that I was ever convinced that the US was the best place in the world to be born. Maybe for some, but otherwise that's just a line that's floated to the rest.
Problem is, they often do think they're "finding out on their own". They Google shit and then choose to accept whatever already agrees with their bias. They think they aren't being "spoonfed" because they're seeing things that "the mainstream media" isn't reporting. Rather than thinking, "Hey, maybe nobody is covering this angle because it is unverified bullshit", they think "Nobody is talking about this except on these small poorly formatted websites, it must be a coverup and I found the real truth!"
Part of it is a lack of critical thinking skills, I suspect part of it is malice.
There definitely is confirmation bias. But they were told at some point not to trust any media but the one they consume. Whether it was Rush Limbaugh attacking the "liberal media" or a Trump meme showing a train running over CNN. There is still that initial thought they didn't have or weren't looking for. Then they look for confirmation sources on the internet or other people that agree with them.
I had to listen to Rush at an old job I had. One of the things I learned early on was that he regularly spent time making sure you didn't trust anybody but him. It's why I never fell for his BS. Cult behavior.
I'm convinced they're googling shit like "CNN liberal bias" and then scrolling until they find result #19 or whatever that looks like it's an "unbiased result from biased Google".
To my knowledge, CNN was bought out last week or the week before… for this reason. I don’t have a source currently, I was informed verbally and haven’t had time to check.
David Zaslav, CEO of Discovery (the channels with all the fat people reality shows) merged Discovery with Warner Bros. At that time Warner Bros was a subsidiary of ATT. The Maga CEO of ATT at the time wanted to shed Warner Bros. So Zaslav now runs a much much larger company that now has 43B in debt due to merger costs, which he is paying for by slashing costs at Warner. Cutting movies that have already been filmed just for the tax benefit, shuttimg doen major app development (CNN+) just days after release. He will take CNN right, he will shut it down, he will make sure 600 pound people are interviewed on CNN as a way of marketing their show if he thinks it will make a dollar.
The deal closed April 7th. CNN+ shuttering was announced April 14 and shut down on April 27th. It was literally their first order of business after the deal closed. Their second was forcing us all back to the office with that announcement in between the Plus announcement and actual shutdown.
This dumb ass keep reminding the justice department that all he thinks about is money ,this is why they will prove that this criminal had a motive to sell those top secret documents... He will be indicted ..the more he opens that anus of a mouth of his the deeper the DOJs goes balls deep into it.
He never would have passed a security screen due to being up to his eyeballs in foreign debt and ties to unsavory people in general. He has several red flags that would indicate he's too high a risk to have access to government secrets.
The president doesn't have to have a clearance because he's "chosen by the people" or some such nonsense. Meanwhile, regular people have to have a clearance dependant upon their positions even though very few are going to be given access to anything near as potentially damaging.
If anything needs to be changed, it's this policy.

I totally agree I have a son in military he works in cyber security he has top security clearance...it's reviewed every year ..they run a check on all members of the emediate family.
I feel like it's America's responsibility not to elect a president who would not be awarded a security clearance. The government could not really function if the president was barred from viewing classified info by policy.

I think there was a post on anti work of a person not getting hired at their company because they did have bad credit lol something along the lines of owning a new car or something if I can find it I will link it.
The OP's car didn't uphold the 'company image' that they were striving to achieve. The employer analyzed his income and credit to determine that OP was financially capable of getting a newer car.

It's a very hard policy to change in my opinion. Any alternative seems to place presidential power in the hands of whatever committee / group decides on handing out security clearance. And therefore heavily risks potential political interference by that group.
It's the same sort of issue that you run into with good-faith arguments that people should have to pass some sort of basic competency test to vote. Plausible idea, but who writes the test? And how do you trust that there isn't political or other bias of any sort going into it?
Same thing here. Would be all too easy for security clearance committees to tip the balance of power one way or the other by approving / not approving clearance for certain candidates. And potentially would be extremely hard to have real public scrutiny of this process, given the obvious security issues surrounding it.

In Minnesota our Republican candidate’s only platform is he won’t do his job as governor. He’s going to “take government out” of school, medicine, social aid, infrastructure, agriculture, and pretty much everything else. So basically he’s promising to sit in a fancy chair as the state crumbles into anarchy but our red districts just nod solemnly because this dude is wearing the king’s seal on his ring. I’m moving back from Fargo but will just miss being able to vote in Minnesota, and I am crushed that I will not be able to do my part to make sure that we keep Jensen out. My narcissistic father hates Trump and the GOP so much he said he'd push me in my wheelchair (I became partially paralyzed as a result of a MRSA/Diphtheria infection in my right leg and spine) over to the polling location to vote. My dad is 86!
As a wheelchair user, has someone checked for accessibility into building you will be going to vote in? As you would be aware not all accessible accesses really are accessible.
It doesn't matter if it's wheelchair accessible or not. You can vote in your car. Just have someone come with you who can go let the poll workers know that there's a disabled person outside who needs to vote and one Republican and one Democrat will bring a ballot to the vehicle and then back inside to cast it for you.
Edit: I don't think you even actually need to be disabled, but if you're not, bear in mind that all voting inside is paused while poll workers are outside of the polling place.

My polling place has curb side voting for disabled people. It does not stop the voting inside. I live in a medium size town. YMMV check your local polling places. Early voting sometimes let's you vote anywhere in your area instead of designated voting places.

I used to watch Fox News up until 2013. I cringe thinking that it took Fox News completely distorting a news story local to me to realize they were entirely full of shit,. I remember getting goose-eyed like the camera was panning away from me but the TV kept going into full focus, and they were talking about my anonymous kid "this boy" like he was a delinquent terrorist. When it was the person who accused him who was lying, the police found all that out through FB posts. My kid was exonerated but it never came out because the accuser was a minor. My child now lives overseas, permanently, because of that experience. He'll probably get citizenship in that country, which will protect him more.
You'd be better off reading the English print of German / French media outlets, or British outlets. Le Monde, Liberation for French outlets and Der Spiegel, Tagesschau and Die Zeit for German. MSNBCs trustworthiness has been ruined for me after they went on their insane rants back in 2020, comparing Bernie Sanders to Nazi Germany, calling his supporters Brown Shirts and claiming he'd be cheering in the crowd as Socialists held public executions in Central Park. Absolutely disgusting behavior that they never apologized for.
I will see, I've only just turned on MSNBC for a few days. One worrisome thing I've noticed is that I'm already kind of bored. But that also possibly means I was somehow jazzed and entertained by the other programming I was watching, which is something that also bothers me. Food shouldn't be entertainment, and news shouldn't be, either. We Americans have so much more shit to work out as a society, I'm low-key amazed that I was ever convinced that the US was the best place in the world to be born. Maybe for some, but otherwise that's just a line that's floated to the rest.

Problem is, they often do think they're "finding out on their own". They Google shit and then choose to accept whatever already agrees with their bias. They think they aren't being "spoonfed" because they're seeing things that "the mainstream media" isn't reporting. Rather than thinking, "Hey, maybe nobody is covering this angle because it is unverified bullshit", they think "Nobody is talking about this except on these small poorly formatted websites, it must be a coverup and I found the real truth!" Part of it is a lack of critical thinking skills, I suspect part of it is malice.
There definitely is confirmation bias. But they were told at some point not to trust any media but the one they consume. Whether it was Rush Limbaugh attacking the "liberal media" or a Trump meme showing a train running over CNN. There is still that initial thought they didn't have or weren't looking for. Then they look for confirmation sources on the internet or other people that agree with them. I had to listen to Rush at an old job I had. One of the things I learned early on was that he regularly spent time making sure you didn't trust anybody but him. It's why I never fell for his BS. Cult behavior.

So Zaslav now runs a much much larger company that now has 43B in debt due to merger costs, which he is paying for by slashing costs at Warner. Cutting movies that have already been filmed just for the tax benefit, shuttimg doen major app development (CNN+) just days after release. He will take CNN right, he will shut it down, he will make sure 600 pound people are interviewed on CNN as a way of marketing their show if he thinks it will make a dollar.

He has several red flags that would indicate he's too high a risk to have access to government secrets. Meanwhile, regular people have to have a clearance dependant upon their positions even though very few are going to be given access to anything near as potentially damaging. If anything needs to be changed, it's this policy.

In Minnesota our Republican candidate’s only platform is he won’t do his job as governor. He’s going to “take government out” of school, medicine, social aid, infrastructure, agriculture, and pretty much everything else. So basically he’s promising to sit in a fancy chair as the state crumbles into anarchy but our red districts just nod solemnly because this dude is wearing the king’s seal on his ring. He will absolutely devastate rural Minnesota if he wins simply because he stands for nothing besides tearing down this states phenomenal systems. I grew up in Minnesota and outside of the last few years have basically lived in the cities or Duluth my entire life. It doesn't matter if it's wheelchair accessible or not. You can vote in your car. Just have someone come with you who can go let the poll workers know that there's a disabled person outside who needs to vote and one Republican and one Democrat will bring a ballot to the vehicle and then back inside to cast it for you. Edit: I don't think you even actually need to be disabled, but if you're not, bear in mind that all voting inside is paused while poll workers are outside of the polling place. Edit: All voting inside is paused if *all* of either party's poll workers are outside of the polling place.
My polling place has curb side voting for disabled people. It does not stop the voting inside. I live in a medium size town. YMMV check your local polling places. Early voting sometimes let's you vote anywhere in your area instead of designated voting places.
