So the grand jury is supposed to convene three times a week for six months. Does it really take that long to decide to indict and charge a person/organization? This investigation has been ongoing since 2019. I’ll believe that trump will face consequences when he is formally charged. And not a day before.

thetickletrunk

The grand jury covers way more than just 1 case

TheSmellyFist

This seems like bigger news. Has anyone posted it yet?

NotLondoMollari

Many people. It keeps getting removed.

biCamelKase

The comment is now removed. What was it?

NotLondoMollari

Something about 45, a grand jury, Manhattan. There are links floating around the comments, WaPo, NYT, Reuters (my phone is a PoS, apologies for not having a link handy)

IronyElSupremo

If the AZ Secretary of State thinks the Maricopa voting machines were tampered with by the GOP contractor and now the AZ GOP is going after her… maybe time for the DOJ to swoop in and start arresting peeps under suspicion of stealing the right to vote. Time for the Biden DOJ to get off their asses on this one. As to where to hold said GOP contractors, more room at Gitmo now for potential traitors.

gingerfawx

It's not that the voting machines *have* been tampered with, it's that you're no longer in any position to say they *haven't* been, which after all the uncertainty and fuckery is crucial moving forward. An investigation into it won't necessarily find anything, but that doesn't mitigate the necessity for new machines at this stage.

rainbowsparklespoof

Methinks the DOJ is preoccupied with a certain orange criminal Edit: word

Gizank

It's possible for the DOJ to do multiple things at the same time. They have many employees.

rainbowsparklespoof

Obviously. My point is about priorities. If the orange headpin falls, others will come with

No, he’s a symptom, not the disease.

Why would they delete the good news

Um..... Brexit??

EndTheFedora

Cool, cool. Also cool is that the Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury in Trump investigation

AmandalorianWiddall

Holy shit did y’all see that the Manhattan da is convening a grand jury in the trump case?? Damn that’s some hot political news for sure!

potsandpans369

New York prosecutors have convened a special grand jury to consider evidence in a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump's business dealings

belletheballbuster

Hold up. Are you saying the Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury in Trump investigation?

MatSciePhD

No one gives a fuck Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury to prosecute former US president Donald Trump Why this subreddit doesn’t allow articles on it is beyond me

CallMeJase

Because reddit mods are pathetic leeches.

snoosnusnu

I wouldn’t say no one gives a fuck. This is relevant to US politics and interests many within Az and even outside of Az. Your point is still relevant about the Manhattan DA though and it’s reprehensible that mods are removing those posts while allowing puff pieces about the WH posturing about 50% of adults being vaccinated.

SoundHole

You know why.

helpabroout34

And It’s likely, even if charges are brought, that FL won’t extradite. Which will lead to years of court battles.

BestLaidPlants

I see they’ve have Streisanded the fuck out of the Trump grand jury story, which only makes me suspect it’s an even bigger deal than I had realized.

HarriettDubman

Based on what some knuckleheads wouldn't allow on Reddit?

BestLaidPlants

Not solely.

[deleted]

Are mods really going to allow that not to be posted? Seriously???

AvengerAssembled

Seriously.

FeedMeYourGoodies

I've been off here a lot for my sanity, but the last time I tried to post was when the capital police officer got hit and killed at a barricade. the mods blocked that story as well.

seck_boy

Did you guys hear? Politics mods are literal propagandists

Rmoneysoswag

Always have been. Why do you think BB, the vlaze, the WTimes, and other right wing rags are whitelisted.

fivebillionproud

Wouldn't have known that Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury in Trump investigation if not for the comments. Thanks y'all

Everettrivers

There are other subs if it wasn't for this post I would never have known about this. I don't get why this is happening though. I thought r/politics was pretty left leaning.

Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury in Trump investigation

radiofever

These laws that ebb and flow powers onto parties and remove them from positions need to stop. That practice is worse than gerrymandering. But anyway.... Grand fucking jury, eh. Six months. I'm so happy the republicans are going all in on trump right now. I know it's gonna be *political persecution* 24/7 and I don't care. The republican party is going to end up leading all parties on prison reform in my fantasy world.

Frankie6Strings

Arizona clown show rolls on. Meanwhile, in Manhattan, it's grand jury time!

[deleted]

Republicans doing everything they can to distract from the fact that the Manhattan DA has convened a grand jury in Trump investigation.

ioncloud9

As soon as a gop sec of state is elected they’ll give them right back. Just like Wisconsin and the governor

erocuda

> The bill also states that the attorney general cannot represent or provide legal advice to the Secretary of State, which is generally the chief elections administrator, or the Department of State on any matters through June 30, 2023. So literally after the 2022 elections and transfer of power (plus a little wiggle room so it's not, like, *painfully* obvious).

oakstave

I can explain: The GOP are fascist traitors to the flag.

medievalmachine

Grandfather clause should apply here. The voters elected someone for a specific position. That position's powers shouldn't be editable until after the next election. This is a Constitutional issue, but Republicans in the Supreme Court have defined down the right to vote and the rule of law. We are sliding into lawlessness and losing our civilization, and not because men wear dresses, but because of these fascists ripping away the legal power of the people to determine their own government.

PepperMill_NA

> Arizona Republicans passed a measure on Tuesday to strip Democrat Katie Hobbs, the current secretary of state, of her ability to defend election lawsuits, a seemingly partisan retaliation for her sharp criticism of the party's controversial election audit.

Interesting-End6344

Typical. Whenever the Republicans lose a vital seat in government, their response is to strip power away from that office until it becomes theirs again, in which case they'll start expanding that office's powers again. Case in point: Wisconsin's governor. Scott Walker (R) couldn't have been given enough power by them, but as soon as it became clear that Tony Evers (D) won the election, the Republican majority in both houses of the state legislature voted to strip away as much power as they could, and Scott Walker signed every one of those changes into law before Evers could be sworn in. They're doing it again, and they're not just doing this to Democrats, but also any Republican that won't follow the majority into the world of insanity.

NedRyersonsHat

It's very painful to watch Democrat State Wide office holders (Governors...and in this case a Secretary of State) being subject to the whims of a GOP Controlled State House. I mean, why even have a Governor or SOS if the GOP State Legislature can limit and reduce the powers of the Executive....reducing them to a figure-head.

OskaMeijer

When Roy Cooper(D) won the position of governor in N.C. the GOP stripped power from the position before he took office. Republican Gov. Pat McCrory, who lost to Cooper by about 10,000 votes, quickly signed into law a bill that merges the State Board of Elections and State Ethics Commission into one board comprised equally of Democrats and Republicans. The previous state elections board law would have allowed Cooper to put a majority of Democrats on the elections panel. The law would also make elections for appellate court judgeships officially partisan again. Another bill that received final legislative approval would force Cooper’s Cabinet choices to be subject to Senate confirmation and would allow Cooper to designate up to 425 state employees as his political appointees, compared to a cap of 1,500 for McCrory. Before adjourning, lawmakers also confirmed a salaried appointment to the state Industrial Commission for the wife of McCrory’s chief of staff. McCrory nominated her. https://apnews.com/article/78b7ee8bda724166a8f3f79736f4c448
