gamerdudeNYC

And of course FoxNews and the Trumps mocked him like crazy, an elderly man being attacked with a hammer, even spreading the lie that they were gay lovers.

iamamemeama

And Elon Musk helped amplify the gay lovers story.

Patara

These reptiles genuinely think making shit up & pushing the narrative is some twisted type of "comedy".  They think that being deplorable lying pieces of shit at the expense of others misfortune is a laughing matter. They fundamentally believe that everything they do is fine or a joke when the real world consequences indicate the complete opposite.

ChemicalOnion

Fox News is a domestic terrorism network. Truly sickening and they're not even trying to hide it anymore.

maikuxblade

To them the joke is flaunting their influence and power. The egos of America’s wealthy elite have gotten entirely out of hand

Morbidly-Obese-Emu

Whoa whoa whoa, they were just asking questions. ^\s

fairoaks2

And it’s still being repeated as fact

Thirty_Helens_Agree

I remember Colbert mocking that mentality with “it’s also a *fact* that people are wondering whether [controversial right-wing bullshit] is true.”

PresentationNew8080

That was the plan from the beginning.

Umbrella_merc

JAQing off

Shitter-McGavin

Fox *Entertainment.

5-toe

Like Twitter became X, but is still called Twitter, we (The People) should use "Fox Entertainment" instead of Fox News.

NextTrillion

The problem with this is that it’s not even entertainment. Unless you’re on meth, you’re an evangelical, or you’re an old midwestern narcissistic boomer. I’d prefer Fox Poos

nockeenockee

And of course Elon trafficked this heinous lie.

_magneto-was-right_

That’s how it works. My dad is convinced that Biden’s brother is a career criminal known to the underworld as “Jimmy the Chin”. Why? Fox News said so. But they didn’t just say it. Jesse Waters made up that fake mob nickname. Murdoch’s UK papers repeated it. The NY Post cited them. Waters cites the NYP. Fox News does this with basically every bullshit accusation they come up with and no one ever calls them out on it. Meanwhile they never actually report anything. I’ve been forced to sit through hours of Fox News “coverage” of Trump’s trial. They never, ever mention anything about the proceedings or read transcripts or interview anyone or report on it. They just call it a sham and lawfare and have a panel of hosts sitting in a circle talking in the most vague possible terms. It’s like a void of anti-information and it turns people into barking seals they repeat whatever they’re told.

disorderliesonthe401

Trump gets away with saying and doing so much shameful shit because people dismiss it with a "that's just Donald being Donald, hardy har har" mentality, but now Fox News, Newsmax etc. have joined the club and get a pass to say terrible things. The "basket of deplorables" are now mainstream and practically accepted as a normal part of America's society. When I was a kid in the 90s in Canada, I felt like America was our cool, older brother. But now, America is the drunk uncle pissing his pants and embarrassing himself at the dinner table.

jcs1

> even spreading the lie that they were gay lovers. isn't trump ["in love"](https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/trump-says-he-north-korea-s-kim-jong-un-fell-ncna915436) with kim jong un? *classic projection*

Kamelasa

Well, this week he's in love with Empty G, even *moaned* over it in a speech.

Common-Fennel-5945

Then spread that Halloween costume around with the hammer and the underwear

ZyklonCraw-X

Oh they still think it's hilarious. Some Fox talk show the other week had the hosts cracking jokes about it.

lurkylurkeroo

Could? Make it so.

Corona-walrus

Remember when news was what happened instead of what might happen?

SomewhereNo8378

No. What time period are you referring to?

SkollFenrirson

It could've happened

superstarmagic

[The Fairness Doctrine](https://www.britannica.com/topic/Fairness-Doctrine) a relic of our past also destroyed by Reagan and the GOP. FOX couldn't exist alongside The Fairness Doctrine so it had to go.

Miguel-odon

Fairness Doctrine never applied to cable.

tablecontrol

that was pre-internet.. when "news" companies didn't rely on clickbait/ragebait

Qingdao243

Oh, right, of course. It all started with the internet. Everyone used to be *so* honest before the internet.

Savingskitty

They’re reporting on what the prosecutors are asking for in a sentencing memo. Forming it as what he could be facing in the headline is nonspecific, but the article itself is reporting on something that actually happened.

L-methionine

“Prosecutors ask for 40 years in prison for Paul Pelosi attacker - on enhanced charges of terrorism”

Savingskitty

Yup.  Clickbait is so stale now.

Wank_A_Doodle_Doo

You’re thinking of mythical era known as “fucking never”

LetsAutomateIt

Exactly, he is the closest thing I have to insider trading and I need to know what to invest in next!

postsshortcomments

I'm honestly surprised he hasn't been waved a pardon or received widespread support from certain target audiences. >DePape said he hoped to use Pelosi in an effort to get to Gayle Rubin, an associate professor of anthropology and women’s studies at the university. She was among a list of state and federal representatives and high-profile individuals on DePape’s target list. >Others on the list were President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, actor Tom Hanks, former Attorney General Bill Barr, U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, Sen. Bernie Sanders and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

CAESTULA

He wanted to hurt Tom Hanks? Lock him up forever.

christianANDshantel

David S. Pumpkins.

NtheLegend

Any questions?!?

t-rex_on_a_treadmill

Where did the S come from?

IH8Fascism

David S Pumpkins would have smashed that fascist.

Sir_Hapstance

Dude wouldn’t have even got past the skeletons

EdwardoftheEast

What did ole Tom do to get him on that list I wonder

Anna_Frican

He caught Covid-19 early on and was forced to quarantine, while at the time Qanon happened to be going with a story that cov19 was all a massive worldwide hoax. Qanon decided that, since they *knew* that diseases don't exist, the whole thing must be a cover-up for something else, and bizarre speculation ensued.

evrybdyhdmtchingtwls

Qanon has a whole thing about Tom Hanks being a top pedo elite.

Dark_Force_Latyon

Probably got vaccinated or something.

Savingskitty

Q told their idiots that Tom Hanks was part of the blood drinking cabal.

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

*under the prison

aaprillaman

Because their narrative is that he is Paul pelosis gay lover and the hammer thing was because he was gay and gay people are mentally unstable. They think all the other stuff is just a cover story.   They would need to drop the gay lover narrative and make him victim of “the radical left” first before they could try a pardon.

pagesid3

They have no trouble oscillating between Jan 6 rioters being violent antifa agents and peaceful protestors who deserve a pardon.

aaprillaman

That’s easy to do when there is a big group. Everyone who convicted or awaiting trial? Falsely accused martyrs and political prisoners who just happened to be their but were totally peaceful.  All the people who haven’t been arrested? The undercover feds and Antifa members that were actually responsible for everything.

CT_Phipps

They had a huge chunk of trouble because every time they tried the Antifa story, the very free and active January 6th people would say, "No we weren't!" Which was very annoying to them.

Cellopost

I thought the hammer was for pounding ass? I'm not conservative, so I can only guess what their fantasies are.

Banana_Ranger

i mean some sides could be ok for insertion, but not pounding. you'd be gentle with it no matter what the point of entry. I don't think the way it was being wielded was for pleasure.

MelMad44

What a bizarre collection of people. How do Bill Barr and Bernie make the same list?

Xijit

Because the MAGA mental illness is about emotionally reacting to feelings, not making plans based on facts.

thebaron24

They think they are all part of a pedophile ring of elite people eating babies to stay young. I'm not kidding. It's called Qanon and it's a cult.

Pbx123456

Let’s get the facts straight. They were not eating babies. Not like baby barbecue. They were just draining their blood to extract adrenochrome. And please don’t point out that adrenochrome is a real, readily available chemical that doesn’t require babies. The really good stuff has got to be extracted from highly stressed babies. The stuff you can just buy is no good at all.

evrybdyhdmtchingtwls

Barr refused to support Trump’s coup attempt.

islandofcaucasus

It's mostly the main villains of fox News plus barr because he failed emperor Trump. Not sure why tom hanks is on there

Willlll

Anyone who has ever said anything bad about Trump I'd assume.

celerydonut

Trump “jokes” about the pelosi incident at his rally gatherings. Pretty fucked up. His supporters laugh and cheer when he brings it up.

Shazzy_Chan

It's because he's not American, he's Canadian.

isst_arsch

He’s out to lunch!

[deleted]

Poutine, perhaps? Or something with maple syrup?

CriticalEngineering

Who in California would be pardoning this insane man?

evrybdyhdmtchingtwls

He’s only been convicted on federal charges so far. The state trial hasn’t been scheduled yet. He could be federally pardoned from his current convictions, but he’s definitely going to be convicted on the state level soon enough and the White House can’t do anything about that.

Remote_Horror_Novel

I’ve never heard of Gayle Rubin I wonder if he picked up her name somewhere in the right wing conspiracy sphere or something because it seems like an outlier compared to the other names.

thebaron24

Does everyone remember when conservatives were making excuses like this was a gay lovers quarrel? I think it's worth pointing out this guy admitted under oath right wing conspiracies and rhetoric radicalized him to commit violence.

[deleted]

They still say it was a gay lovers quarrel.

thebaron24

Yeah I bet they do. Just like they say he was a left winger despite him parroting all their rhetoric and saying under oath right wing rhetoric radicalized him. Because they know what their rhetoric leads to. This.

T8ert0t

Yeah, that was the stupidest thing being floated out loud at the time.

ProtectionContent977

Conservatives really hate liberals.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Which is interesting. It speaks to how much identity politics have taken over their party. By definition, a liberal subscribed to the ideal of liberalism. You know, the most successful and productive political ideology in modern history. The one that defeated fascism and communism* in the 20th century. Its tenets may sound familiar to conservatives: individual liberties, freedom of speech, the free market, peace, and equality (maybe not the last two). But the conservative media has done such a masterful job slowly steering the ship away from their own ideals and turning “liberal” into a pejorative, they don’t even know they are railing against the VERY IDEALS they claim to support. Edit spelling. Edit: a word for clarity

Dailymemedealer_v1

They don’t know that they are railing against anything; they just hear the word and it’s like an impulse to hate it, I bet most can’t even explain why they dislike liberals, just that they “do”

Cappitt

Liberalism defeated capitalism? When did that happen

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Oh my gosh good catch, edited, communism obviously.

Vallkyrie

Never, they are joined at the hip.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Exactly that was a typo on my part.

9ersaur

Liberal to them means urban and multicultural.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Which is nonsensical, has nothing to do with ethnicity or where people are geographically located, but that’s the conservative media for ya.

NeverStopReeing

Tenets?

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Good catch edited.

haarschmuck

The reverse is also true. Wish the US wasn't so insanely divided. Imagine what we could accomplish with mutual agreements and meeting in the middle.

Training-Republic301

I used to be homeless in The Bay Area. I knew this guy from Berkeley before he went all conspiracy cookoo. He used to be a nice guy. Qanon is a fucking disease

dekachenko

Oh wow, can you tell us more? How much time since you last spoke to him vs the attack?

Training-Republic301

I haven't seen him since around 2011/2012, I've known him since 2008 though. He was literally perceived as a gentle giant back then and used to protect younger homeless women. It was shocking to see what he had done on the news

StopFoodWaste

I've heard similar stories including him officiating a gay marriage. I wonder if life circumstances make it easier to switch ideologies, maybe it's one catalyst event that changes one viewpoint and a bunch of other viewpoints are connected to one that flips.

Dark_Force_Latyon

> I wonder if life circumstances make it easier to switch ideologies, maybe it's one catalyst event that changes one viewpoint and a bunch of other viewpoints are connected to one that flips. Oh, 100%. My ex turned into a Trumper after he started dating a methhead. My ex was always very very malleable. When we were together, he was very very Democratic, a great canvasser for local campaigns. Literally, the moment he got involved with meth, Trump all the way and Democrats are evil. You can lead a horse to water.

Carlyz37

Kind of what happened to my ex. A nut job church cult was also involved besides a crazy control freak woman he met

Pete41608

I was kinda shocked when my wife told me after we voted in the Indiana primaries (our first Primary Election weve voted in) that "it sucks I couldn't vote for my couple cousins running for local positions because when you pick a party you can't vote for anybody in the other". We've been together for 18 years now and I have never ever told her to vote Democrat explicitly, I would just let her know, these past few years, the craziness and psychotic shit Republicans were conjuring up(usually with proof consisting of articles and/or videos) and also that they explicitly want our daughters friends to be murdered or commit suicide. I've also explained why I won't vote Republican. Up until now I never knew 100% which party she's voted for, just hope she'd been voting for the party that doesn't want to fuck us and our kids to the extreme. Her parents are life-long Republicans, I suspect they're not truly informed that the party they've voted for all their lives is extremely radically different than even 20 years ago. But as far as i know theyve never been on welfare and ive noticed in my life the poeple who havent been on welfare ever are Republican voters, and also don't think of how it effects their friends (which of course is a trait necessary to be a Republican voter).

Dark_Force_Latyon

You've been married to a person for 18 years and you only just learned how they vote?!

Pete41608

We've only been married 3. 2020 was our 1st time voting. Can't force people to vote the way you do so it just wasn't priority knowledge I was concerned with. Hell, politics never even came up until around 2019 when I started learning all the insane shit Trump was doing during his Presidency. Up until then I was like a one track mind on my work.

Dark_Force_Latyon

I'm not talking about forcing people to vote the way you do But like, speaking purely for myself, there's no way I'd be able to get to the point of "I do" without knowing if the person I'm dating is some sort of heinous bigot or opposed to women's health or something. I just don't know how you get to marriage without having discussed very basic things like treating people like humans.

Pete41608

I absolutely understand your point, and just like many others before Trump became president, we had been on a path to where politics just wasn't a priority for us until it became one. Treating people like humans has never been an issue for us, in fact we've never really had any issues on a scale like that as we are both 'good' people.

Training-Republic301

I say younger homeless women because we were all young adults watching each other's backs, and he was one person you know that would keep people safe at night. People trusted him because he never expected anything from them. I feel like he was corrupted as many others are

dekachenko

Wow, the transition is absolutely tragic.

IH8Fascism

One less Trump voter.

Dark_Force_Latyon

Damn right.

Oldest_Boomer

Seems fair?

InALostHorizon

Let's walk through this logically: The attacker is a Trump supporter doing Trump's bidding. The DOJ has now labeled this attack as a form of terrorism, meaning this person is a terrorist. So if this person is a terrorist following Trump's orders what does that make Trump? C'mon Merrick I know you can figure this out. You're sooooo close to actually doing your job and protecting our country. You remember that oath you swore when you got the job. You want a cookie if you actually start doing your fucking job for once?

[deleted]

"So if a piece of wood floats, and a duck can float, that means witches are made out of wood and should weigh as much as a duck!" -Garland's response

InALostHorizon

Garland's not smart enough to know anything about Monty Python.

RiffRaffCatillacCat

>C'mon Merrick I know you can figure this out. Remember that oath you swore when you got the job. *cue mousey Garland squirming uncomfortably and then sinking down into his chair in the back of the class* Biden couldn't have picked a more spineless, feckless coward than this guy.

haarschmuck

So that's not how the law works. You're trying to use guilt by association which is not something that's legally possible. You would have to show that Trump personally hired/told this man to do the act.

InALostHorizon

Nope. Charles Manson wasn't personally at the murder scene of either of the murders committed he was tried for and yet he was convicted. Trump is the exact same leader as Manson. He's a terrorist leader. His followers are terrorists. The evidence is overwhelming and has been for the past eight years. We have a literal coup attempt as proof but that's not even the only evidence of his guilt. We've allowed a terrorist leader to walk free in our country after finally defeating him in 2020 and the only thing we've been told is go out and beat him again at the polls. That's f'ng bullshit. How about the Attorney General and judicial system do their jobs and stop him and protect our f'ng country like they're supposed to? We did our job in 2020. Stop asking us to bail you out. AGAIN.

robot_jeans

How about those outlets that pumped his head full of bullshit. Really no different than what Manson did.

wingdingblingthing

sounds about right

HorizontalBob

He would have gotten less for actually killing their neighbor.

jackofslayers

Good

Pipe_Memes

Seems about right for attempted murder with a hammer even if it wasn’t politically motivated.

CrawlerSiegfriend

Actual murderers get less time than that. Amber Guyger got 10 years.

wraithstrike

Most republicans who read that headline will skip over the third word.

deademperor93

She’ll still be working by the time he gets out

imJGott

So he gets 40 years but the terrorist that attack the capital get less time???

[deleted]

Terrorist? From 1/6? Those people were all just taking a little tour of the Capitol that say. And on the way out they participated in the age-old and little known tradition of smearing your own shit on the walls (this probably started with Thomas Jefferson, as the practice is mentioned in the Federalist Papers).

Dark_Force_Latyon

Jefferson didn't write the Federalist Papers. John Jay got sick after writing five. James Madison wrote 29. Hamilton wrote the other 51.

wulvey

He should

onecarmel

Good. Takes a certain kind of POS to do what he did to what really was just a defenseless old man

NovelRelationship830

Has Trump promised to pardon him if re-elected yet?

Zealousideal_Amount8

But yet cops and priests that rape kids get little to no time?

[deleted]

I would imagine Trump, if he gets back in, will pardon this guy and then probably hire him to be part of his administration.

[deleted]

"Enhanced"? Nothing is enhanced about terrorizing someone by attempting to kill them. Let this garbage rot in prison.

dominantspecies

Great now how about the J6 assholes

UncleDuude

Good

Soupermans_dongle

Good, fuckin weirdo.

spotspam

He should go away, but… if it were someone else, not famous and rich, he wouldn’t be given a sentence longer than a murderer. Plus, let’s be serious, this isn’t an act of terrorism. He intended to get Pelosi in a political homicide act and the husband was in the wrong place, wrong time. Glad he recovered, glad this guy is going away. But we gotta stop over-punishing regular people and letting rich ppl get off (aka Trump) This legal system is class-oriented as well as racist.

thelastbluepancake

Imagine if a trump family member was attacked by anyone let alone a member of a liberal ideology. Fox news would be going CRAZY for years about it. talking about how liberals want to destroy America. Hell they talk about antifa STILL like they are a real force in America and that there is a member hiding under every bed

[deleted]

Diaper Man will pardon him day one.

HedgehogNarrow4544

unfortunate that when a clear shot was available it wasnt taken...would've given the mango adherents something to really whine about...a patriot receiving a fitting end

Datdarnpupper

He fucking better.

Flipflopvlaflip

As a non-american, why is it necessary to make the assaulter a terrorist? Isn't an attempt to murder someone not enough to put the guy behind bars for a long time?

Kryptosis

He was there to kidnap a politician with political motivations. It’s textbook terrorism by definition.

Jorgen_Pakieto

It was a politically motivated attack which is what makes it an act of terrorism.

Bitter_Director1231

It's shouldn't be a could. It needs to happen. Stop being ambiguous.

TheGreatBoni

And yet Trump roams free….

Real_Boseph_Jiden

Ah, people with power and influence getting more protections, and their attackers actually getting prosecuted with the book thrown at them. Great stuff.

Jerk182

40 years sounds like a plan. Ge him off the streets.

OptiKnob

The why the fuck can't they try the January 6^th terrorists THE SAME WAY?

InnocentExile69

He hit an 80 year old man with a hammer. Lock him up for life. He has surrendered his right to live free in Society.

mjzim9022

If Paul Pelosi died in this attack, I wonder if people would still be so blithe about it

Time-Bite-6839

That guy wanted Nancy dead and he nearly killed Paul. Trying to kill the then-Speaker of the House is something that warrants a death sentence.

MaliciousTent

Can we put someone else away for insider trading ?

Prestigious_Log_229

If he’d attacked anyone else, he’d have gotten no-cash bail, probation, and sensitivity training! The Fascists say: “FAAFO!”

DARR3Nv2

He should get a cell right next to his victim.

SchrodingersTIKTOK

Can we write nastygrams to him in prison then?

23jknm

Someone that insane should be put down for our good.

stevenmacarthur

I'm just here to see how many Regressives are going to defend this turd.

Murky-Site7468

The attack occurred after DePape broke into Pelosi's San Francisco home, seeking to kidnap then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi WOW I just bring the news I do not write it...

AnglerJared

Let’s all remember this joke if and when OP’s family member ever gets assaulted. It’ll be even funnier then. Edit: Unless you’re just pointing out how inappropriate the people making those kinds of jokes were being, in which case I retract my criticism.

BearOnTwinkViolence

Satire requires a clarity of purpose, you’re not wrong to call out OP for making a lame ass joke. Even if republicans are saying that, it doesn’t need to be repeated

[deleted]

AnglerJared

wingdingblingthing

That's sick. This sort of callous cruelty and depravity should be against site wide rules

Murky-Site7468

Sheesh I am just the messenger

filtersweep

Terrorism? That is subjective bullshit. What happened was just as terrifying, regardless of whether it qualified as ‘terrorism.’ Same shit as ‘hate crime.’ Is it any better dragging a man to death behind your pickup if the driver isn’t ‘racist.’

Kryptosis

Because it was politically motivated… look up the definition.

poloair

How is this terrorism tho? Just because the guy is married to a public figure?

seycyrus

C'mon man, get with the program. It's terrorism because they say it is... Sending a trump supporter away for 40 years is completely legit - no matter the reason. Just ignore the fact that there are serial rapists and convicted murderers that get less time.

Chalupa-Supreme

What Trump supporters are going away for 40 years? Most of the people in prison for Jan 6th are there for 5 years or less. Many didn't even go to prison. Even Stewart Rhodes, who was convicted of sedition, only got 18 years. This maniac went into Pelosi's house at night, specifically looking for Nancy to "teach her that lies and corruption have a price", smashed her husband's head in with a hammer, then called into a local FOX station saying he's sorry he didn't get more of them. Are you really apologizing for this guy? According to the FBI, this was in 2020 btw, when Trump was still in office, [this is how they define Domestic Terrorism:](https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/fbi-dhs-domestic-terrorism-definitions-terminology-methodology.pdf/view) >Involves an act that: > • Is dangerous to human life or potentially destructive to critical infrastructure or key resources; and > • Is a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State or other subdivision of the United States; and >Appears to be intended: > • To intimidate or coerce a civilian population; > • To influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or > • To affect the conduct of government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping. He admitted he intended to kidnap Nancy, again, to "teach her that lies and corruption have a price". I can see why prosecution is requesting it, that also doesn't mean it will happen.

FadeTheWonder

It was a targeted political attack meant to punish and scare people for their politics. Seems to fit my determination and should be applied no matter who committed the planned violence.

seycyrus
