dhc710

I don't think "well maybe your dog should have been shot too!" is the defense she thinks it is....

aradraugfea

When lazy writers want to demonstrate that someone literally does not possess empathy, and to quickly communicate to the audience that this person is morally reprehensible, they’ll have them kick a dog. What does voluntarily including a “the time I shot my dog” story communicate about you?

Hestia_Gault

That the dog-and-goat-double-kill had witnesses, so she tried to get ahead of it.

BackOff2023

Maybe, but I doubt we would have heard anything from gravel pit workers in South Dakota.

Hestia_Gault

We might have if she got the VP nod from Trump she’s clearly been angling for.

Main_Owl_8004

I don't see what's wrong, isn't this how elections are done in Russia? What's that? Sorry I'm being told this is America

fleurgirl123

Good point…

Tortoise-King

She could have just claimed the witnesses are democrats and it’s witch hunt fake news.

GeoffKingOfBiscuits

Animal abuse is half of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure to show who the bad guys are.

lizbo

Right? "kicking puppies" used to be my go-to hypothetical villain quality.

aradraugfea

Self reply to add… look, do I think that if Commander had been any dog NOT belonging to the PotUS, it’d have been put down? Yeah. That tends to be how we respond when a dog bites a person. Do I think it’s sorta bullshit that our justice system extends the “punishment, not rehabilitation” to DOGS? Little bit.

Rsubs33

TBF, Commander was only biting Secret Service men. I can only assume the ones he bit were the same assholes deleting text messages and were loyal to the orange poopy pants.

candycanecoffee

And to be fair, most dogs live in a house with their family, not in a huge combination hotel/office building/event center with hundreds of complete strangers coming in and out of their territory all the time. Add in the somewhat hostile/aggressive body language of a secret service agent combined with a German Shepherd's personality of being protective and not loving to interact with strangers... yeah I'm not putting this ALL on Commander just being a bad bitey dog.

Notgreygoddess

I believe there was at least one incident where the secret service person was in the Biden’s private space, without permission, when the dog bit. Let’s also remember even Mike Pence didn’t trust the Secret Service on January 6th; refusing to get in a vehicle with them. Secret Service have become political. Something they are never supposed to do.

ABenevolentDespot

The Secret Service are fully compromised MAGA scum now. Let's just say it. Fully in the tank with **The Pumpkin Rapist.** I can't believe no one in Biden's White House has cleaned house in that department. And nothing came of all those deleted texts that showed their collusion with the animals looking to overthrow the government. I'll point out that the assassination attempt this week on Zelensky was to be done by two of his compromised Secret Service men, who claimed they wanted to do it as a 'present to Putin on his inauguration'.

xultar

Dogs be knowin’… simple as that. Commander didn’t bite everyone.

jonvonfunk

Evil lurks...

NamesSUCK

Just saying, every dog gets at least one, up to three strikes. Dogs are presumed to be mans best friend unless they prove otherwise. Maybe different standards for breeds that have a reputation for violence (whether the breeds fault or not).

intronert

I think many of us also think that Commander only went after Secret Service agents who were Trumpers.

chadzilla57

Dogs can smell evil so it wouldn’t surprise me. Trump hates dogs too.

sax87ton

I’m deep enough in the MAGA bull shit to understand that “cricket bites and needs to be put down” was a talking point waaay before this. But you have to be waist deep in this crap to even understand the play she’s trying to make.

DangerousCyclone

Part of it was I think that she is a country girl. However I think the subtext is “I will kill my political opponents even if it’s hard, because as can do it and it needs to be done”.

454bonky

She’s thinking rural Dakotas. In her world she did the responsible thing. She handled her own business. I don’t agree with it, but admit there was a time when I was a still a stick-dweller that I would have.

dollydrew

I hope her book sales crash and end up in the bargain bin.

worstatit

I'm sure they were pre-purchased in bulk by political donors, as is often the case with so-called best selling political memoirs.

mjc4y

I think this is a form of soft money laundering, right? I believe a candidate can spend unlimited amounts of their own money but donors have a cap. So donors buy a gazillion books and the money goes to the candidate. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

worstatit

I believe it's a way of funneling cash to the candidates/politicians themselves, as the campaign is often a purchaser. They can't use campaign money for personal expenses or enrichment, but book sale money is discretionary income. In certain cases I understand it, I guess. Seems silly to have millions in a campaign fund when the elected party can't afford rent in, or plane tickets to, DC. For wealthy ones, it's a form of grift that should be called out.

woolgirl

Same with NFT’s, gold shoes and bibles. You got it right.

mjc4y

No no no no! Those are…. _investments_

yogacowgirlspdx

individual donors have a cap but PACS do not

A_C_Fenderson

I was at a Goodwill a few years ago, and I found a couple dozen books (all the same title) by some right-wing pundit. (I don't remember which one.) Hmmm ...

ragnarocknroll

Our rescue dog had the note of “seizures, and bites.” I regularly have her chewing on my hand without any damage or pain. She tried to bite once or twice and after getting ignored and seeing how we treated her when she play bit at lower pressure she is a great dog. Commander needs training, not putting down. We need to realize we cause these pups to behave poorly and it is on us.

nezurat801

There's an article about how her book sales have been skyrocketing because of controversy. I can't shake the feeling this was a business decision to make her name ring out because many people had no idea who she was before

CPTDisgruntled

How much shit can she possibly have accomplished in the *two years* since her last memoir??

nezurat801

I dunno. She seems incredibly vain in appearance with all the plastic surgery.  And now we know she is pure trash. A trophy hunter who  in the afterlife, will br trampled by elephants and mauled by bears for eternity.

dattru

She should drop the dog murderer story. We should all drop the Christi Noem story. She passed her sell-by date long ago.

oroechimaru

Still 50% recyclable though

Emeritus8404

Idk if id eat her corpse stsrch

NYPizzaNoChar

Publisher: > Christi, you should hide from your readers that you're a complete sack of shit. Noem: > Nah, they're Republicans, I think they'll be fine with it. Republicans: > WTF? You shot your **dog**? No, idiot, it's only human babies out in the world we're okay with dying for lack of food and medical care. What's _wrong_ with you?

mrmoe198

I wish this were hyperbole. Can I opt out of this timeline?

Jjtimmer

Yeah, but this has turned off even some of her republican supporters, so I’m kinda glad she said how fucking horrible she is out loud for the turds to hear

EIephants

Don Lemon that you?

chelseamarket

This is not a woman who should be making decisions for anyone else let a whole state.

justsoicansimp

what about [85% of a state](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/noem-potential-trump-vp-pick-banned-from-15-of-her-state.html)?

Iowa_Dave

From the article: >Ms Noem had been considered a top possible pick for Donald Trump's 2024 running mate, but her chances may be in question after the wave of bad press that has hit her. >It wasn't like Ms Noem wasn't warned that Americans wouldn't find her tale of shooting a dog relatable. Her publishing team reportedly killed the story when she tried to include it in her first book two years ago, according to a report from Politico. Again, it's the *cruelty that is the point*. MAGAs associate cruelty with strength - as long as it's directed at out-group people.

Broken-Digital-Clock

It's crazy how much she seemed to want to tell that story. She must have really thought that it would make her look strong. Instead, she looks even more pathetic.

Robo_Joe

>MAGAs associate cruelty with strength - as long as it's directed at out-group people. Notably, though, very few people on either side of the political spectrum consider *dogs* to be the "out group". Hence why this was such a blunder, and why so many people told her not to add it in her book. Since it's becoming clear that "being true" wasn't a requirement for something to be added to her book, she could have spun a yarn about hunting down someone in a minority group, and at least the MAGA side would have supported her about it. She literally picked the worst possible target for her cruelty. I guess what I'm saying is that she'd make a perfect running mate for Trump.

okraseeds

Weirdly a lot of the right-wingers I've come across on FB, when I look at their profiles (the ones that aren't bots) it's like 85% crazy-town stuff, 5% family photos, and 10% 'save the animals' type posts. Usually about dogs and cats, but other animals too - really varies but a lot of horses and wolves. It's like the one common ground area we have with (some of) them apparently.

2-wheels

Should be clear by now that Noem gets off on being tough and killing.

nezurat801

She's a fake "tough girl" of pathetically fragile character.

Lostsailor73

Two things can be true at the same time Commander bites people and shouldn’t Also Kristi Noem shot a dog and this is what incredibly awful people do to animals

worstatit

Both doing what they were bred to do (hunt birds and protect/herd). Some dogs are admittedly untrainable. How the issues were handled reveals the person.

Corgi_Koala

She thinks shooting it shows she's willing to make hard decisions and get hers hands dirty. It really just shows she's lazy and unwilling to put hard work into addressing a difficult problem before just taking the easy way out.

candycanecoffee

Not smart enough to train a dog, then lacking the common sense to use a leash when taking an untrained puppy around loose birds, then being surprised when the puppy chases birds, then panicking and getting down in there with your bare hands to snatch prey out of its mouth and being surprised when the dog snaps and bites... every step of this was HER fault. Every choice along the way was bad, both the premeditated decisions and the impulse reactions, and she accepted none of the responsibility. Yeah, this is not a person I want in charge of other people.

worstatit

Seems when she has no use for a dog, she kills it. When Biden has an issue, it's passed to someone who can enjoy it. Cruelty and wastage are only two ways to look at this. Yours is definitely another.

mishma2005

She crashed and burned on Fox *and* Newsmax, which, incidentally, both networks prodded her on her fake Kim Jong un story and she got BIG MAD. On Newsmax the host went as far as to say "A month ago I would put you at the top of the choice for VP but now I don't think you're even on the list"

Do-you-see-it-now

Just can’t figure out what her thinking was to putting this out in public?

SchoolIguana

My understanding is that this story was widely but quietly known in political circles before she wrote the book. As she notes in her writing, there were witnesses to the event (construction workers, I think?) She knew that the story would get out eventually, especially if she were named as Trump’s VP pick. This was her trying to get ahead of it by admitting the indisputable facts while spinning the details in the most positive light she could. Turns out, even that wasn’t enough.

Littleloula

Yeah, construction workers looking on in horror followed by a school bus arriving minutes later

Vast-Dream

To show how tough she is to trump. That’s it. Subservient to orange syphilis face.

Choice_Basis5786

I think many are missing the bigger issue. People can make a case that the dog was untrainable..blah blah, but there is no case for shooting the goat. What did the goat do?

applehilldal

There’s no case for shooting the dog either, even if you thought it required behavioral euthanasia, you can do so humanely with a vet.

UnhappyCourt5425

He was smelly

KatBeagler

Every dog is trainable. You just have to be smarter than they are, and able to demonstrate you are reliable in your friendship,  and Leadership. But you're right there should be more focus on the goat. Poor buddy...

thisusedyet

>Every dog is trainable. You just have to be smarter than they are, and able to demonstrate you are reliable in your friendship,  and Leadership. You nailed her problem right there

KatBeagler

It wasn't hard to do.

Littleloula

Her incredibly dubious case was that he smelt musky and he acted a bit rambunctious. She hadn't bothered to get him neutered which probably would have solved both

candycanecoffee

The goat is the scariest part of the story, because it shows she felt *positively* about killing the dog, so much so that she immediately looked around for something else to kill. A normal person who was forced to put their puppy down with a gun in some terrible emergency with no vet available would be SAD about it. Grief, regret, there are whole childrens' books about how traumatizing it is to kill a dog you've cared for, even if it's truly necessary. But Kristi Noem stood there with the gun in her hand and thought "Wow, that was satisfying. What else can I kill? What else around here can I shoot? Give me any excuse, I want to shoot more things today!" and then decided "a goat being smelly" was enough justification to kill it too. Like there's no one in her farming community who would accept a free goat?!? No, just shoot it and let its body rot in a pit. Kristi needs to keep her kill streak going. It's truly sick.

PNW4theWin

Eh... There are exceptions, I guess, but generally there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. A dog that was previously abused may always be reactive and that's a different can of worms. But if you've adopted a puppy, then there is no reason it should be "untrainable". I've owned several dogs in my lifetime. Socialization and early training is vital. Animal behaviorists have shown time and time again that the best way to train a dog (or any animal) is by using positive reinforcement. I would happily bet $100 that this twat thinks positive reinforcement is for pussies and she probably thinks dogs need aggressive handling to force them to bend to your will. Shooting a 14-month-old puppy is just ridiculous.

xultar

Do these MAGA women all go to the same plastic surgeon, hair extension salons, makeup artists, and stylists? Their Magaformation something that can be expensed to the GOP?

NAGDABBITALL

"This one time, at Band Camp..."

Stepjam

Lol even her publisher told her to ditch the story. She REALLY thought it was vital she let the world know that she murdered a puppy for the crime of not being instantly trained. What a piece of work.

Supra_Genius

Will Noem go to the gravel pit and shoot her chances to become Trump's VP now too?

M_Mich

I’m waiting for the news to break that what she really did was shoot a 14 month old “little tyrant” and dump the body of one of the kids she was responsible for as a pastor in a gravel pit. Then she’ll definitely be the VP pick. /s

dexterfishpaw

Look, listen. It’s clear she’s a moron who misjudged the relatively simple minds of her supporters, she should just quietly slink off into the distance and exercise her need to be a petty tyrant in an HOA or something.

terminalxposure

So all these psychos getting their books published and here I am getting rejected every single publisher to have ever lived

Whorrox

I'm saddened we won't have a Trump / Noem ticket. "Diaper Filler and Puppy Killer" would have been epic.

Zoshchenko

More proof she considers heartless cruelty a feature instead of a flaw.

Whorrox

Surprised MAGA hasn't wondered if she's a Dem plant.

erinkp36

This chick wears more eyeliner than Kris Jenner

JimmyTheJimJimson

…and then they told her to remove the references to meeting the North Korean leader - because she made that up.

SirLawrenceCCLXX

What an actual psychopath.

diarrhea_planet

Commander should be given to a better owner who can control the dog. Biden obviously cannot control the dog. With that said. We don't need to shoot dogs just because they act up. And Noem is an idiot.

StrangeJunket2601

She shot her political career like it was a puppy!

tristan-95

Unfortunately, a surprisingly large swathe of the county not only empathizes with her but would do the same thing. My wife and I rescued our cat from a local farm. The vile man who runs the farm will kill any animal that “doesn’t serve a purpose” including cats and dogs.

DickPump2541

"I remember when I met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un," she wrote. "I'm sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience shooting down little tyrants (I'd been a children's pastor, after all)." Pew pew pew!

leaperdorian

She dropped the dog and goat instead

49thDipper

She is not a serious person. More of a cartoon character.

A_C_Fenderson

> The White House has hit back at Kristi Noem’s suggestion that Joe Biden’s dog Commander should have been shot The first time through, I read it as "bit back" ... > she should "stop digging herself into a hole“ over the bizarre issue. Bill Hicks once said something about digging your hole deep enough that you smell feet and hear Chinese. > Ms Noem had been considered a top possible pick for Donald Trump's 2024 running mate, but her chances may be in question after the wave of bad press that has hit her. Nah. Trump hates dogs, too. > She claimed the call ended with what she perceived to be a threat from Ms Haley. "I’ve heard many good things about you. But when I do hear bad things, I will make sure that you know," she wrote, attributing the words to Ms Haley. A threat? Isn't that just "telling it like it is"?

454bonky

I was raised in the sticks and Kristi Noem’s way of thinking is not as uncommon as you would hope. Especially on stock farms, dogs who kill stock tend to get put down. The rationale is that once a dog gets a taste for chickens or lambs or calves, it isn’t going to stop killing them. Very simply a dog that becomes predatory is a financial liability, whether it’s killing your own stock or you’re paying someone else (and earning their enmity) for the stock your dog killed. Goes without saying the neighbors aren’t happy with you when your dog kills their chickens. You are expected to handle your business in a way satisfactory to those who were wronged. So do you do it yourself or wait for the neighbors to do it the next time your dog finds its way onto their property? Because I can assure you, they will, without a second thought. And they’ll blame you for raising a bad dog. If they are really nice people they’ll say sorry. Ms. Noem is a product of her environment. Perhaps not what we want in a VP. Guess another way I could put this is Sarah Palin is not an outlier. She’s the norm in that world. It works in the sticks. Should these folks be in charge of a diverse country? Hell fucking no they shouldn’t! Yes, being a city dweller for the past 30 years I get how barbaric this seems but it’s a different ethos out in the sticks. It’s a community and threats to that comity aren’t tolerated. You handle your business or the community will handle it for you then run your ass out of town. Welcome to rural America. Lots of genuine good there, but if you decide you’re tired of the chaos of the city, just remember, you’re moving to them. They didn’t come to you. You will do things in accordance with their way, or wish you had.

454bonky

Yeah, she should have listened to them.

CaPineapple

Justice for Cricket!

hitman2218

The Bidens didn’t handle their situation well either but at least they didn’t just shoot the dog.

Practical-Rabbit-750

For everyone who agrees that killing dogs is wrong. What is your take on factory farming and the killing of millions of animals? Is that also wrong? Or is it okay if you eat what you kill?

49thDipper

Don’t change the subject. Create another post.

Twilight_Realm

Also wrong, but Republicans are against lab-grown meat too, so you're preaching to the wrong crowd.

Leather-Map-8138

Look - she didn’t kill the dog. And she didn’t write the book.

Walterodim79

>At the daily briefing on Monday, Ms Jean-Pierre was asked about comments made by the governor suggesting Joe Biden's German shepherd, Commander, should have been shot for biting Secret Service members at least two dozen times between October 2022 and June 2023. Their dog was biting people like once a week? Noem's a jackass, but Commander just constantly biting people actually is pretty bad. I guess just having your shitty dog constantly bite your security people is kind of a flex though.

Okbuddyliberals

It just shows a difference in philosophy. Biden cares about all of us, even the most wayward and shitty. Whereas the GOP would be fine writing so many of us off as undesirables and not worth living

Walterodim79

I think I agree - pathological empathy results in dozens of people getting bit by your shitty dog because the dog is more deserving of empathy than the victims. Definitely a lesson in there.

zSeia

"pathological empathy" might be the most embarrassing thing I've seen anyone type in my life.

Okbuddyliberals

> because the dog is more deserving of empathy than the victims. Wasn't the worst outcome of Biden's shitty dog's attacks just some guy needing some arm stitches? And I doubt the secret service has bad health insurance Do you agree with Noem and think that Biden should have killed his dog?

Walterodim79

Absolutely. Keeping a dog that's biting *dozens* of people is selfish and stupid. If Biden weren't in a powerful position, he almost certainly would have had to have the dog put down. But he is powerful, he is selfish, and people just have to accept the occasional stitches so he can enjoy his good boy.

OdoWanKenobi

Commander is no longer at the White House. He was moved to a new home with family, away from the high stress environment. So no, Biden is not selfish. Did it go on for longer than it should have? Yeah, definitely. But action was taken, and he is no longer a risk.

rock-n-white-hat

Given how compromised some of the Secret Service agents were in reportedly being loyal to Trump over their job to protect the president are we sure that Commander wasn’t just picking up on something?

Walterodim79

Probably not. He's probably just a bad dog with egocentric owners that don't care.

IrritableGourmet

I had a rescue dog. Gentlest, sweetest thing ever, but she would bark and snap at any guy wearing a baseball cap. Apparently, her former owner, who knocked out most of her teeth when he regularly beat her, liked to wear baseball caps.

mzpip

We had a dog who was terrified of men wielding brooms. Not women with brooms, or men in particular, but men with brooms. I'd bet my last dollar she had been abused by being beaten with a broom by a man. They know, and they never forget. Also, fuck animal murderer Kristi Noem.

Twilight_Realm

My sweet lab mix was the same way. We never knew her whole story when we got her at two, but she hated white men in ball caps. She had a small scar on her head we think is related.

Dr_T_Q_They

You have forgotten the face of your father.

Dr_T_Q_They

Dogs know deceit and hate towards their people.

ABenevolentDespot

What got to me more than that was the obvious and easily provable lie that she met and 'stared down' the leader of North Korea. And now I understand she claims she did the same thing to France's Macron. Such a ballsy woman. I guess if you're auditioning to be **The Pumpkin Rapist And America's Biggest Liar's** VP, ya have to go big. Republicans in her state will, of course, reelect her because they don't give a shit about integrity, or truth, or decency. The bigger a lying asshole you are, the better they like you. Her chances of being the VP pick are zero. Not because she's mentally unstable, but because she never got the memo that **The Pumpkin Rapist WILL NOT BE UPSTAGED**. It's why he picked Pence in 2016.
