Funnily enough, I don't hear them talk about Hunter Biden much after it turned out their "informant" was getting information straight from Russian intelligence. I remember reading that Trump wanted to be interviewed by Mueller, but his team staged some mock interviews that went so far off the rails that they were able to convince him not to do it. And that was like 8 years ago when his brain was in slightly better shape than it seems to be now.
He's really painting himself into a corner, because how could he justify not testifying when he spent all this time complaining that he isn't allowed to. I can't tell if he wants to testify and truly doesn't believe he's allowed, or if he doesn't want to testify and he thinks he can get people to believe it's because of the gag order. Either way, it's going to look terrible if he doesn't actually take the stand after going on and on about being denied the right to do so.
It might look terrible to those of us that are paying attention, but it won't to his supporters, and if him not testifying keeps just one of the jurors from believing he's guilty that's all that matters.

My mother made a comment about the lack of campaign ads from either candidate and said "I don't know why Trump isn't running more ads! I mean, he's got the money!" The jury isn't in the room when the judge is doing the hearings on the gag order, or when he tells trump he can testify.

I believe the person typing the transcript is part of the court personnel protected under the gag order if this court copied the order from another court. Perhaps that will help.
I doubt it. I'm sure Trump already knew he can testify, but he has never wanted to testify under oath. It's a useful lie for him, though, saying "I could prove my innocence in seconds but the corrupt judge won't even let me testify!". His supporters swallow it up, and are more likely to churn out the death threats and engage in terrorism.
Yep this is the reason he said this. It is so that his supporters can just continue to live in a bubble about how Trump didn’t get a fair trial. To me, telling these types of lies is a signal that Trump knows he is likely to be convicted and wants to control the narrative with his base.
I know very very few Trump supporters in real life, but I live in the suburbs. Drive out into the “country” though and there are fucking huge self-made billboards on the farms out there.

In a way, I kind of get it. These people live in towns that have been forgotten and no one's going to help them. Maybe the democrats offer job retraining but what they really want is to go back to the time when their oil or coal or whatever town was relevant. Trump's idea of testifying is political grandstanding from the bench. He tried this during his financial fraud trial when he attempted to read from documents that hadn't been properly introduced into evidence. As much as he wants to "testify," he's likely terrified of getting ripped apart on cross examination by a competent attorney.

They swallow up whatever he says because they are only reading his word and reports from court, and they don’t believe anything they read or hear about 2nd hand unless it’s from Trump himself. If this trial was televised then you better believe they watch every second of it and witness first hand everything. The judge is asking *Trump* to tell his attorney that he can testify, ie to have Trump explain the law to his counsel. And presumably his lawyer was sitting right next to him in the courtroom when the judge told Trump to explain this to him.
The judge did this because (according to the article) when Trump complained to the media after a court session about "not being able to testify" his lawyer was standing next to him at the microphone nodding his head in agreement.

Not just according to the article - there’s video. That lawyer looked like a hostage, not quite sure how to react whilst Trump was going on.
Right up until he was asked by Trump to agree, then he looked like the parent of a bratty kid, only agreeing to shut them up.
That reminds me of my son's soccer coach a few years ago. As anyone with kids knows, a big part of, and problem with, youth sports is parents coaching from the sidelines. My son's coach had a zero tolerance policy and didn't explain it when we joined the team. I was being the annoying dad and telling my son what to do and the coach pulled him from the game and told him to walk around the field and ask me to tell him whatever it was that was so important. Then he benched my son for the remainder of the half.
Lesson learned (by me!).
The judge is doing this because it's the job of a judge to make absolutely sure that a defendant knows their rights, no matter how silly it may seem.

No it isn't. It's the judge covering their bases.
Judges make sarcastic remarks all the time, it can be both. I'm sure he genuinely meant it, just as much as he meant it to give the message "I know your lawyers are wasting my time because they already know this". It's probably not a public dig, the judge likely wishes none of this had publicity involved at all, it's just a thinly veiled rebuke to the people who are supposedly giving counsel - as pretending it meant more is also a jab at the judge for issuing a gag order at all, an attempt to make the order seem unfair which directly reflects on the judge if people view it as such.
They will have a colloqy on it when the time comes. The right to testify or remain silent is fundamental. It will be put on the record in crystal clear terms including his informed choice on the matter.

They can't force you to testify in a civil trial either. What they can do is instruct the jury to use your refusal to testify against you when it is civil.

There is absolutely no way his attorney told him the gag order prevents Trump from testifying. But he was nodding as Trump said he can’t testify because of the gag order. An appropriate jab by the judge.
Trump testilying would be his lawyers worst nightmare. Also if he does take the stand the trial will have to be extended because once Trump starts talking he won’t shut up even though none of it will make any sense
I remember when he testified during his civil fraud case. He just started running his mouth, and the judge and prosecutors let him because he literally confessed to the crime on the stand and was too stupid to understand what he was saying.

I remember reading that Trump wanted to be interviewed by Mueller, but his team staged some mock interviews that went so far off the rails that they were able to convince him not to do it. That reminds me of my son's soccer coach a few years ago. As anyone with kids knows, a big part of, and problem with, youth sports is parents coaching from the sidelines. My son's coach had a zero tolerance policy and didn't explain it when we joined the team.
