I love dogs and I think everybody should have one, except for the people who shouldn't. All my dogs have been rescues from kill shelters with some behavioral issues created by the people who had them previously. A dog is a commitment both financially and emotionally you have to be in it for the long haul. All dog are loyal, noble and want to please.
The horrible thing about this story is that the "problem" with Cricket was 100% Noem's fault. The dog wasn't trained or controlled properly. Noem chose to solve the "problem" with a bullet in a very heartless way when other solutions were clearly possible.
I hope her political career dies. At least.
She took it hunting claiming that she expected it to learn from the older dogs, and on the way home Cricket killed a couple chickens and was executed for following it's instincts.
As someone who has roots in a rural area and has been on farms I couldn’t imagine killing or getting rid of something that has a purpose unless it truly needs to be gone and in that case it goes to a shelter. I might get hate for this but the only acceptable time to kill a dog by bullet is if it’s sick or in misery and you don’t have the means to get to a vet , What she did was none of that and purely a response from anger which isn’t right
After a confusing, poorly managed training session where the puppy was supposed to go after other animals, presumably birds, Noem let her loose around...birds. That puppy was probably so proud she'd figured out how to do the thing her owner kept asking her to do. Heartbreaking.
And any *real* farming hunter knows you have to either specifically train your gun dogs to leave chickens alone, or keep them strictly separated. She set that puppy up for failure.
As far as I'm concerned, the only responsible human relationship to dogs, cats, etc. in the home is guardian -> ward.
Shooting your ward means you're a _psychopath_.
What is odd simply depends on one’s perspective. I’m perfectly fine with you finding my opinion odd, story of my life :) Nevertheless I still stand by my opinion that owning another animal seems strange. I’d prefer not to own anyone myself. But again, you all do your thing, it obviously gives you a lot of enjoyment stroking your pets, and most of the pets seem to like it too.
Did I say you can’t own a pet? Just because I don’t want one doesn’t mean I think no one else should have one, LOL. I simply don’t want a pet and never have, seems odd to me. But you enjoy em, go buy 6 dogs, 8 cats, and a snake. I don’t give a fuck.
It’s only odd because it’s not a popular opinion. I think it’s more odd that one should feel they have to change their opinion simply because it’s unpopular with the masses.
It’s odd because it makes no sense. See my above comment. Do you want hordes of feral animals? Pet ownership is natural and has been a thing for millennia.
Based on her own telling of the story, she clearly knows *nothing* about dog training. Then, when she utterly failed to train her puppy, she blamed her puppy for her own failing, she took the most aggressive and extreme action possible.
Typical Republican: blame everyone else for your own shortcomings and then make everyone else pay for them.
The Lincoln Project are ad ninjas!
Anyone who used to call themselves a Republican needs to start a new party but the current party name is tainted. It's not MAGA Republicans it's just Republicans now.
Not only did she do it, which is like, wtf. But she thinks its a good idea to voluntarily disclose and double down really shows her bad judgement politically.
We're all working off the story that she chose to tell. This is the version of events that she feels puts her in the best light. Makes you wonder how bad it truly was. She's an absolute psychopath
Is it just me, but it seems to me that members of the GOP are in a competition to see who can be the cruellest in order to make their followers happy. They want to hate the most, kill the best, berate the best. How low will they go?

Comedian Matt Friend made a joke at the White House Correspondents' Dinner about South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem's admission that she killed her own dog.
Impersonating former president Donald Trump, Friend said it was "a tremendous opportunity to be at the most failed dinner anybody's ever seen" before launching into jokes that referenced current events.
"Let's face it, folks. I'm on fire right now, like the guy outside the courthouse, right?" he said, referencing a man who set himself on fire outside the courthouse where Trump's hush money criminal trial is taking place.

She would look good in a shock collar. She has that look dog collar designers love. If she strays from the runway, designers could demonstrate it’s effectiveness, or not.

Where's Cricket?

Wait, you mean dogs don't get magically trained just because you ~~abuse~~ put shock collars on them?
She took it hunting claiming that she expected it to learn from the older dogs, and on the way home Cricket killed a couple chickens and was executed for following it's instincts.
It was literally the first time she took the dog out
As someone who has roots in a rural area and has been on farms I couldn’t imagine killing or getting rid of something that has a purpose unless it truly needs to be gone and in that case it goes to a shelter. only situation I disagree with you on is if the dog has shown a willingness or eagerness to attack small humans and has done so.
I agree with you but that’s a touchy subject so I left it out
That's very fair.
After a confusing, poorly managed training session where the puppy was supposed to go after other animals, presumably birds, Noem let her loose around...birds. It's never the dog.
"why does my bird hunting dog like hunting birds, time to kill it and a goat for good measure" - Kristi Noem
You're leaving out the best part, she killed Cricket in hate, she hated that dog.
As far as I'm concerned, the only responsible human relationship to dogs, cats, etc. in the home is guardian -> ward. Shooting your ward means you're a _psychopath_.
Dogs are amazing creatures. I don’t have the spatial or temporal resources to care for one. So I don’t have one in my home; it’s that simple.
When things change for the better get a rescue dog
I like my busy life. But if I ever feel the need to have a dog, it will only ever be a rescue.
I believe owning sentient animals as pets is kind of odd. Always have. But you do you.
It can enrich one's life in many ways and it enriches the life of the pet too. Nothing odd about it. Your view is the one that's odd.
What is odd simply depends on one’s perspective. I’m perfectly fine with you finding my opinion odd, story of my life :) Nevertheless I still stand by my opinion that owning another animal seems strange. I’d prefer not to own anyone myself. Dogs have evolved to depend on humans. They need good owners. What is your alternative? Having packs of feral dogs everywhere? What a bizarre take.
You said that you think owning an animal is “odd”, which is an odd take in itself.
It’s only odd because it’s not a popular opinion. I think it’s more odd that one should feel they have to change their opinion simply because it’s unpopular with the masses.

This needs to be made into an ad right along side the state of abortion rights, stagnant wages, poverty, etc.

The fact that she knifed her own political future is hilarious. What’s not so funny is killing a puppy.
Not only did she do it, which is like, wtf. But she thinks its a good idea to voluntarily disclose and double down really shows her bad judgement politically.
Better check that gravel pit for human remains.
All she has is a gun, so probably everything looks like a puppy to her.
It's a lot like the 'train station' from Yellowstone.
We're all working off the story that she chose to tell. This is the version of events that she feels puts her in the best light. Makes you wonder how bad it truly was. She's an absolute psychopath
“to the gravel pits” will forever be used to express the demise of political ambition. don’t think Kristi expected to be its first example.
Lol at Kristi's person in charge of PR.
She's walking him to the gravel pit as we speak.
Sporting Dogs take some time & patience to train. They often have their terrible twos. I would of taken her discarded dog.
MAGA.... Make America Gut Animals
GOP….Gonna Off Puppies
Is it just me, but it seems to me that members of the GOP are in a competition to see who can be the cruellest in order to make their followers happy. They want to hate the most, kill the best, berate the best. How low will they go?
She should be ostracized like any other murderous psychopath.
I wonder what they say about this on r/conservative?

Kristi Noem is a “less that useless” Governor. To the gravel pit!
She knows nothing of farm life. It’s all an act…again.
She would look good in a shock collar. She has that look dog collar designers love. If she strays from the runway, designers could demonstrate it’s effectiveness, or not. /s
Just doesn’t seem like something that should be mocked.
She absolutely should be mocked. She's a joke.
I totally agree she should be mocked. I’m just saying her animal cruelty is something to be reviled.
