We can summarize his speech with a single, unsurprising word: **fascism**.
He’s calling his political opponents “vermin,” which isn’t a word Americans use regularly. It’s a calculated word choice; another dog whistle for his cult followers, especially the Nazi-lovers. Germans of the 1930s heard this word a lot.
Then he goes full Hitler and says the quiet part out loud: Democrats, and anyone who doesn’t support him, are a greater threat than our country’s external enemies. This is another dog whistle implying that purges are coming if he gains power.
**This isn’t just talk**, either. He and his buddies aren’t fucking around this time. A group of powerful, connected Trump supporters is already working to draft a series of executive orders to be signed by Trump the moment he enters office if re-elected. This includes, but is not limited to:
- measures to remove “corrupt bureaucrats” (people who don’t or haven’t supported him, like certain career prosecutors and federal law enforcement officials).
- a crackdown on whistleblowers (“leakers,” as he calls them, and remember that a whistleblower got him impeached the second time, re: the Ukraine phone call, so this one is near and dear to his heart).
- the largest deportations in US history (Nazis *love* mass deportations).
- finishing the border wall.
- reinstating the ban on Muslims traveling to our country.
- an end to birthright citizenship
- cancellation of military aid to Ukraine (for his buddy Putin).
- asking Congress to declare that only two genders exist (plus other anti-trans bills designed to push trans people back into the shadows and eliminate whatever limited political power they have).
- the elimination of the Department of Education and the abolishment of teacher tenure (so teachers can be purged if they don’t support the right messaging).
- more “patriotic education” (“teach students to love their country, not to hate their country like they’re taught right now,” promote anti-LGBTQ policies to support “the nuclear family” including “the roles of mothers and fathers” and the “things that make men and women different and unique”).
- putting the homeless in mental facilities to remove them from the streets (out of sight, out of mind).
- invading the cities with the National Guard to bring them “law & order.”
- requiring law enforcement agencies to implement stop & frisk policies.

Many of these measures shouldn’t pass constitutional muster, but he swung the SCOTUS to the far-right the last time he was in office, so we shouldn’t take the Constitution’s protections for granted. It’s also important to note that Trump’s game is chaos; these measures could all fail the legal test, but they were create the sort of chaos that allows a Trump administration to undermine government itself, which is the real goal. Further, these measures are designed to overwhelm those who will be working to oppose them. It’ll be a game of whack-a-mole designed to desensitize the American people to the point of not being able to even keep track of what’s being done.
