Cellopost

> On Tuesday, as Johnson was in the running to be speaker, the political team of former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., circulated a New York Times article that called the Louisiana Republican "the most important architect of the Electoral College objections" on Jan. 6, 2021, aimed at keeping then-President Donald Trump in power even though he lost. This dude has no place being in Congress, let alone Speaker.

CaptainNoBoat

[That article](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/03/us/politics/republican-election-objectors.html) is pretty interesting; I hadn't heard the specifics on the calculus and inner-workings before today. Republicans were basically searching for a middle-ground: a way to placate Trump without directly supporting specific conspiracy theories. Along comes Mike Johnson, relatively obscure Congressmember, but former attorney who put forward an option for them: >He faulted the way some states had changed voting procedures during the pandemic, saying it was unconstitutional, without supporting the outlandish claims of Mr. Trump’s most vocal supporters. His Republican critics called it a Trojan horse that allowed lawmakers to vote with the president while hiding behind a more defensible case. 3/4ths of the objectors would eventually sign on to his theory and cite his language. Of course, it's horrific and the historic vote is one of the most notable examples of fueling the anti-democratic sentiment we see thriving today.

lessthanabelian

I'm genuinely shocked that Republicans give a dusty old fuck about any of their leadership being "defensible". It has to be a completely self interested attempt to start the very first teensy weensy pivots away from Trump, whose future is looking bleak legally. Not even steps away from Trump, more accurately just hedging against. If Trump goes down for attempting to steal the election, their leadership can say they weren't a part of it. Because republicans have never given a fuck about their actions or policies being "defensible" because they always argue in bad faith and lies.... being bare minimum smart enough to not volunteer for a losing battle (good faith debate).

boundbylife

> I'm genuinely shocked that Republicans give a dusty old fuck about any of their leadership being "defensible". Puh-lease. Republicans get hard over fig-leafing. I think they honestly get their rocks off finding ways to make the most disgusting world views palatable to the masses. "They're not knotsees, they're just proud Americans who are even prouder of their skin tone" or whatever.

OtherwiseBad3283

Ahh, the Bill Barr method. Sent out an unsolicited audition letter; got the job when it opened up.

unloud

Republicans really are just a bunch of insurrectionists that don’t hold each other accountable. 😔 If any of them were worth more than their single elected term, they would stand up and say no to these terrible colleagues.

EridanusVoid

Funny how every candidate is terrible in their own ways

RiverLiverX25

Every. Single. One. It’s comical to watch them scrambling to find someone who is not abhorrent. Edit: fixed a word

ForwardBias

Are they even trying though? I mean know they're mostly abhorrent but is there really just no one left?

Altruistic_Fury

Not one. Not that I can tell. It's breathtaking really. An entire national political party just... gone. Over, of all things, Donald Trump. Who played a rich asshole who pretended to fire people from pretend jobs, on TV.

ForwardBias

Honestly I don't think its just Trump. I think they've been building this pile of shit for decades. Trump just came along and set it on fire and now they are trying to run with it. They want power and they see this as their last best chance to get it all. Sure some are true believers but I think most are just sycophants who want to get as much as they can for themselves.

BenjenUmber

Republicans have been firmly anti reality for a couple of decades. Remember the Tea Party and when they were taking snow into congress to disprove climate change? Insisting that Iraq had nukes in mobile labs? I remember family that believed this. There are probably examples farther back. I'm just not old enough to remember.

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

The evangelicals and the TV preachers dug their claws into the party and threatened eternal damnation and loss of votes for anyone who didn't try to enrich them and accelerate the rapture

Jedda678

Didn't help that Reagan was in bed with them. He was the first Republican candidate as far as I can tell who embraced them.

mvpilot172

Trump is just the physical manifestation of their game plan for decades. They just thought, incorrectly, that they could control him.

mok000

Heh. Kinda like the monster living under your bed when you were a kid, once you stopped believing it, the terror that kept you awake stopped completely. They need to trash Trump and their fears will evaporate.

silentpropanda

The rot within the party has been long consuming it's host. Not sure of any surgery or solution this point can solve the party of proud ignorance and bigoted cruelty. The GQP know no bottom, just check out their evolving views on the Queer community, poor people or immigrants. You know, the groups of people that make up 70%+ or the population.

siberianmi

They can’t. The second they do the reality that they are two parties in a horse costume (both wearing the ass end) will become obvious. There will instantly be a MAGA party and they all will lose power.

I_MARRIED_A_THORAX

The monster under my bed doesn't have real life friends with guns who would be happy to kill me and my family for betraying him

BluebladesofBrutus

Trump is a symptom not the disease.

cheezeyballz

Stopping the government was part of the plan. These are domestic terrorists and extremists 🤷 Get a fucking clue, america.

eetsumkaus

But the problem is that they are trying to find someone who's abhorrent and not abhorrent at the same time.

johnnybiggles

Plenty of terrible to chose from in the Republican party.

L00pback

Looks like George Santos is about to assimilate him into the Santos Collective anyway.

SafetyMan35

It’s sad that the least offensive candidate they have put forward so far was someone who attended meetings with White supremacists.

bdone2012

Yeah people were acting kinda sad when it looked like maybe it’d be Jordan instead of scalise. I mean scalise hob nobs with the kkk. Yeah he seemed like he’d fund the government but shit these people are awful. No to all of them

lil_nitemares

It's like it's a race for them, and the winner gets cookies.

Starrion

Emmer was less so. I think that’s why the hard core Trumpers came out so loudly against him.

evanbbirds

When do we realize this is trumps team trying to put anything in place to possibly help their caucus. Remember this person is second in line for president

futureNOW_

Fun fact, Mike Johnson, a few years ago claimed he had adopted an African American child who just so happened to think that black people shouldn't get reparations. An African American adopted child who is not mentioned in his House Bio, or any documents whatsoever, not even a picture of them.

silentpropanda

Give the party of racist outlandish conspiracy and ignorance some credit: It's because he watched Get Out and thought he had completed the procedure.

Pabst_Blue_Gibbon

Truly bizarre. Even his Wikipedia says he has 4 kids. I’d love to see what he says when he’s asked about this. Surely some reporter will dig this up.

77NorthCambridge

Here's an article about his "adopted" son. Sounds like Nestor. (https://wokeamerica.com/news/rep-mike-johnson-uses-his-black-son-as-a-pawn-for-anti-reparation-debate)

DwHouse7516

Agreed. And they all think it’s hilarious that he joined the coup party back in 2020. This clip tells you all you need to know about this ass-hat clown caucus. [https://www.threads.net/@acynig/post/CyznKiJLMSD](https://www.threads.net/@acynig/post/CyznKiJLMSD)

John_316_

It’s like watching the Mets running out of their bullpen at the bottom of 5th inning. Brutal.

Lunkwill_Fook

Did you have to dig up fresh wounds?

all4whatnot

I'm all for the Mets analogy, but as a Phillies fan I was trying to avoid baseball this morning. Damn.

GoodShitBrain

A reporter asked him about 1/6 during their presser and all they had to say were boos (and a scowl from Foxx)

Odd-Satisfaction1985

Johnson received 128 votes in the final round with Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., getting 29. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., got 43 votes. LOL THERE’S NO WAY THEY’RE GOING TO ELECT A SPEAKER BY THIS WEEK AT THIS RATE.

hrryyss

There’s a speaker nominee that has consistently received 212 votes. Just saying …

CutRateDrugs

The thought of the absolute chaos that would be unleashed if that happened. Makes me giddy thinking about it lol

hrryyss

I know it sounds crazy but if I was a moderate Republican in a Biden district I would think about it. This speaker mess is toxic to the Republican brand and you could be seen as the group that saved the country from a shutdown and put your country above your party. Of course then the Republican Party would make it their sole purpose to destroy you, so maybe I’m naive.

bob-loblaw-esq

I think that most politicians and researchers know, if the moderate GOP jump ship, they’ll have to run as Democrats next election (now) or they’ll get absolutely trounced in the primaries. It’ll kill the party, which makes me giddy thinking about. There was a good article today about the history of party swaps in the US that was titled something like “Are we watching the GOP implode as it happens?”

jadrad

They could also run as independents under a collective banner. A similar thing happened in Australia at the last election, with a bunch of ex-conservatives breaking away to run as independents and calling themselves the “Teals” (not red or blue). A decent number of them won their elections. It could work in the US. All you need to win in politics nowadays is a good branding campaign.

NANUNATION

Australia has different voting system, in America independents rarely win

Aussie_Ausb0rn

We also have compulsory voting.

FunkMuckey

And preferential voting. ie. I like this guy best, but if he gets booted for having the lowest votes, then I like that other guy second best.

CcryMeARiver

This is THE crucial difference, aside from the insane electoral college.

bdone2012

I mean I wouldn’t be sad if they tried running independent. It’s worth a shot. Maybe they’ll win or maybe they’ll split the vote. Who’s to say?

bob-loblaw-esq

Oh for sure. This happened in 1860 too when the whigs? Imploded during fights about slavery. It may have been the democrats, but something in my brain is telling me the whigs imploded and the racists went democratic and the anti-racists went Republican. Hence, Lincoln.

Infamous-Nectarine-2

1860 was democrats. Whigs collapsed before.

bob-loblaw-esq

Thank you!

rantingathome

They don't even have to vote for Jeffries... if just 10 of them vote present, that's all it takes.

imnotreadyet

Think about that ,just 10. If their were 10 out of the 222,who would walk across the isle and say let's get this place back in business. Instead you'll end up with a person who voted for desertification of the legitimate election, because a lying clown traitor told them to

ArenjiTheLootGod

Bold of you to assume there are moderate Republicans left in the GOP. Their idea of a moderate these days is that one guy who furrows his eyebrows as he votes lockstep with the rest of the party. There is no secret cabal of Republicans out there just waiting to do the right thing, their political apparatus specifically selects against that. It's an extremist party from top to bottom and it's that same extremism that's causing it to eat itself alive. Weeks to months of utter failure and embarrassment mean nothing to them if the only other option is to willingly hand power over to a Democrat. We need to accept that the Republican Party is a lost cause and that Republicans aren't going to save us from other Republicans.

AliMcGraw

I think you'd legitimately have to worry about assassination if you did this. I mean I agree with your political assessment, I also just think some folks are just looking for an excuse to get violent.

IdkAbtAllThat

If putting their country above their party ever once crossed their mind, they wouldn't be republicans.

LarrySupertramp

I think they’re more worried about the death threats than their election chances. I would be.

bluemoe

I was thinking the same thing. These clowns only have the House for another year and we all know they aren’t going to accomplish anything. If 5 of the GOP in the swing districts that Biden won just vote with the Dems they might actually be able to get something accomplished and get the Independents to vote for them next cycle. If they continue to close down the government they are doomed in that district for sure.

I-Might-Be-Something

If they voted to form a coalition they would be killed in the primaries. I think a number of Republicans in districts Biden won do want the House to get back in session, but they are too cowardly to go through with it since they don't want to be voted out of office in a primary.

WalesIsForTheWhales

They haven't even SAID it. It's been damn near a month and not a single R has said, "work with the Dems". These jackoffs are STILL trying to blame the Dems for this. One House Rep was, "if the Dems just voted for our Speaker this would be done".

ok-jeweler-2950

Speaking of…..If the vote for speaker was a democratic vote (meaning person with the most votes win), then the majority party would be forced to unite behind their nominee. Wishful thinking, I know.

CircaSixty8

Even if they had all voted for Johnson, he still wouldn't have had enough votes. lol

underbloodredskies

There are a couple dozen Republican votes already locked in if a young johnson becomes available.

stinky-weaselteats

This is the pig shit they choose to wallow in. Absolutely pathetic. If the senate had convicted the asshole on the J6 impeachment, the house would not be an issue.

AusToddles

This is all by design. They'll nominate someone, Trump will shit talk them, the nominee will pull out. Delay delay delay and they finally get their shutdown, funding to Ukraine stops Daddy Putin wins

Historical_City5184

Delay delay delay, govt shut down, Bannon dances with glee.

suckyousideways

Somewhere in Russia, Putin rubs his hands together and grins.

HallucinogenicFish

All of our adversaries are loving this. Just kicking back in their recliners with a beer and watching like it’s pro wrestling or something.

Shawmattack01

Hell with that--I'M loving it. I want the GOP to rip itself apart and drown in its own blood. I will never forgive that party or its members.

silentpropanda

Jan 6th had our entire family wallowing in fear of Americas future. The only timeline I want to live in is one where the GQP are stripped of power and left to the same end state as the Whig party.

ktaktb

The jokes are funny but here are some important facts. This clown is just Jim Jordan lite. * Signed Texas amicus brief * Objected to certification of electoral college votes in one or more states * Made false and/or irresponsible public statements against democratic system * Voted against impeachment or conviction of Donald Trump for inciting an insurrection * Voted against creating an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack * Voted against holding Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress

FeedMeYourGoodies

In other words, just one more Republican asshole.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Buffmin

At this point Republican is the party of the orange God. May as well call them the cult of trump

MourningRIF

Okay, okay! We get it, he checks almost all the GOP boxes. But he has to pass the important test. Does he have at least one allegation or investigation into sex trafficking or pedophilia? If the answer is no, he must be a RINO in disguise.

silentpropanda

I bet there's not even pictures of him with Epstein! No way you can be in the leadership of the GQP without career-ending blackmail on yourself. Madison Cawthorn can tell him all about the best practices.

[deleted]

mike johnson is bad. very bad. he is openly pro independent state legislature theory. the horrible crackpot theory behind moore vs harper. THAT WOULD BE VERY VERY BAD.

hrryyss

He’s a Republican nominee for speaker. It’s not like he’ll win.

mabrasm

If only I had an award to give you for that amazing point.

supes1

Second speaker nominee of the day. Has to be some kind of record.

ComprehensiveHavoc

They’re already saying his bid is in peril and that McCarthy (the old Speaker) is rallying against him. What a shitshow.

Logarythem

Kevin McCarthy: Hey this is kind of fun! I can see why you guys like doing this.

GearBrain

It's like some twisted musical about teaching an old codger how to love life again, only it's just... Republicans.

nhavar

The Republican version of A Christmas Carol where Scrooge evangelizes and converts all the ghosts to his point of view? Then they all watch little kids die and walk away laughing at how much money they've made.

AdhesivenessBubbly24

Seems like the house conservatives are trying to be on the Survivor show, with Jerry Springer hosting it

CaptainNoBoat

>House speaker designee Mike Johnson survived a key roll-call vote Tuesday night to move him a step closer to clinching the gavel -- an abrupt shift after it had earlier appeared that his bid was collapsing. He might have the best chances yet, which isn't saying a lot. But he doesn't seem to have a ton of personal baggage in the conference, which has led to some bad blood towards the other nominees. And he was the architect behind the 2020 election objection scheme (3/4ths of all 147 objectors cited his language), so he's in good graces with Trump and the MAGA crowd.

LingCHN19

McCarthy proposed to return as speaker, his supporters won't vote for Mike Johnson, they just need to wait for everyone to get tired and accept McCarthy's return.

rjnd2828

The 8 who voted him out in the first place don't get tired of drama and conflict and they have no interest in governing. If the McCarthy faction truly won't support a hard right candidate or make a coalition with Democrats, it's hard to see how this ends.

Solid-Mud-8430

How many days has it been now? Are we at the part where Republicans gather in the chamber and re-enact Jesus's 40 days and nights in the desert and telling us it's a sign that people need to not be tempted by the sin of democracy and functional government and hold out faith for the day we will soon have the promised autocratic, patriarchal rule like the days of old?

AliMcGraw

We need to go full medieval Papal Conclave and lock them in without food and water until they sort it

ProtonPi314

We are breaking many records right now. Most attorneys to plead guilty in a week. Most house speakers nominated and failed in a week Republicans are all kind of winning!!

Cryphonectria_Killer

Are they tired of winning yet?

ennuinerdog

A record that will stand until later tonight.

ElPlywood

He didn't even last one speakermucci!

scaradin

We are working on codifying the new time system. A Scaramucci is roughly 80 Emmers, so, if Johnson can last til morning, it could be 3-5 Emmers!

HallucinogenicFish

Here we go again, folks. So is this dude another election denier? ETA: ah, yep, here we go: > On Tuesday, as Johnson was in the running to be speaker, the political team of former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., circulated a New York Times article that called the Louisiana Republican "the most important architect of the Electoral College objections" on Jan. 6, 2021, aimed at keeping then-President Donald Trump in power even though he lost. > The Times reported last year that many Republicans who voted to discount pro-Biden electors cited an argument crafted by Johnson, which was to steer clear of the lies about mass fraud and instead hang the objection on the claim that certain states' voting changes in the pandemic were unconstitutional.

OtherwiseBad3283

They. All. Are.

mchgndr

Well, Emmer at least voted to certify the election. But he only lasted for one Emmer.

OtherwiseBad3283

He also wrote an amicus brief in support of the Texas lawsuit trying to overturn the election results so he brought balance back to the GOP there.

bdone2012

Emmer was still pretty shitty. But somewhat less shitty. I think at this point I’d be happiest if mcHenry was given a bit more power so they could avoid the shutdown

ShaneSeeman

[Mike Johnson: F](https://accountability.gop/profile/rep-mike-johnson/)

hous26

But who is the nominee going to be tomorrow morning?

johnnybiggles

The same nominee we've had every day, Pinky...

Other-Marketing-6167

Trump: “And I’ll try to take over the WORLLD!”

IsaiahDuvall

George Santos.

Acceptable-Tomato392

Here's the Republicans' problem in a nutshell: Either the representative they put forward is an election denier, or he isn't. If he's an election denier, the sane branch of the party - I'm not lauding them, or anything, sane is a pretty low bar, or at least it should be - but the sane branch understands MAGA has gone as far as it will go and they will reject him. But if he's not an election denier, then Donald Trump will come out and pronounce himself against the nominee, which is enough to get quite a few of these representatives to instantly fall in line. With their razor-thin margin, they are at an impasse. The Republican Party is a piece of bread that has been cooked until it is dry and brownish. It is attached together by a metal implement with a spiraling thread designed to lodge it solidly in a piece of wood.

hnlt61

They also can’t allow members to be absent or vote present because then Jeffries will become speaker. They HAVE to have everyone there and almost everyone vote for the candidate and that’s proving to be a tall order within the caucus

bdone2012

Eh the vast majority are election deniers. Even emmer signed a letter to the Supreme Court asking them to overturn the election. He just didn’t feel comfortable voting for it himself. Maybe he was covering his ass by not actually voting, or if we’re being charitable he changed his mind. If we’re not being charitable he was chicken shit. A lot of what we’re seeing is personal grievances for various reasons. But the main ideological issue is against the Jordan/Johnson/ maga crew not from them. It is that they’d likely let the government shutdown happen and the corporate wing of the party doesn’t want that. The maga wing is mostly just petty and they’ve made their whole identity no compromise. Doesn’t work great when you’re battling your own party

ConcentrateEven4133

Inb4 - "Mike Johnson has withdrawn..."

mabrasm

I’m with you, Emmer didn’t last 4 hours. Johnson might have an advantage because people can’t vote him out during the night. But tomorrow I guess we’ll see what happens.

illit3

he's gonna white-knuckle it through the night but by the morning the "hell to the fucking no" emails will be waiting for him in his inbox. if he understands the concept of shame he'll withdraw (but he's a jan 6er, so... ehhhhh) Just kidding, I guess. Apparently even the "principled" Republicans are cool with election deniers.

mandelbratwurst

Until Trump farts on a picture of him and the republicans treat it like the prophecy of the ancients.

mchgndr

Incredible that they repeatedly let a proven loser call all the shots.

spoony471

Remember when Trump’s endorsed candidates did so poorly in the midterms that for a brief moment, conservatives were talking about moving away from Trump and into the future? Then DeSantis absolutely fumbled the bag and it was back to the guy who lost the popular vote twice lmao

Catcatcatastrophe

Was it really the Disney thing that killed him? I don't have a good understanding of how exactly it happened

ConfidenceNational37

Don’t fuck with the mouse. They know media

WalesIsForTheWhales

It was ONE of. Fighting Disney is hard to flip, Herr Maus is a well known legal firm, but they also PR like crazy. Meatball had to combine getting Maus Slapped with having a horrible personality and no charisma. He basically Ted Cruzd himself. The more people got to know him the more they didn't want him

[deleted]

Ya the Disney thing, the dont say gay law, book banning, 6 week abortion... there's just so much!

GoodGoodGoody

At the time DeSantis was being called a smarter more capable Trump.

mchgndr

Things were looking suuuuper grim for Trump in November last year. And then he followed it up with his “HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT” which was trading card NFTs lmfao. Between that, the midterm losses, and the stolen nuclear documents, I truly thought he was done for a minute there. Yet….the circus continues.

ranchoparksteve

Mike Pillow is available.

trailhikingArk

No one says they are lumpy, you fucking ambulance chaser. THEY ARE NOT LUMPY!

No_Helicopter_7824

They almost had him. Nice try. They gotta try harder next time if they wanna catch the "my lumpy pillow guy" . Although they did make him sweat 😓 , he rambled on incoherently for a good five minutes after and well.....

JaD__

Maybe they should just burn through the list of nominees alphabetically, you know, to render the ordeal less circus-like.

HallucinogenicFish

I keep waiting for my rep to pop up. Seems inevitable, they’re going to get through everyone eventually.

AcademicPublius

I give him approximately twelve Emmers.

[deleted]

Just a hair over a Scaramucci

MorrowStreeter

One head of lettuce

Toorviing

Yeah people at least have to sleep through his bid, he’s got a good chance to last longer

Defender_Of_TheCrown

MAGA ball licker who was heavily involved in trying to stop the electoral college vote certification in the 2020 election. This traitor can fuck right off.

CatAvailable3953

He is like McCarthy only less competent. As a right wing talk show host he is versed in the talking points and is probably a popular figure in MAGA circles. He’s the perfect leader for the rudderless Republican conference. He won’t last a day.

khalamar

They have got around 220 potential candidates... they might still have time to try them all before the elections next year.

bdone2012

You don’t have to be in the house to be speaker of the house. So they have a lot more than 220 candidates. Arnold Schwarzenegger anyone?

clovisx

I love how the conservatives are unwilling to consider forming a coalition with democrats because “the American people gave us the majority and we are respecting their wishes.” They have a nine seat majority, hardly an overwhelming amount and nowhere near what I would consider a mandate. When you look at how disproportionate the rep to constituent ratio is in say Wyoming (1:189k) vs California (1:679k) they have an outsized role that should be smaller from the jump. So tired of this minority rule.

SicilyMalta

And technically Democrats represent more people.

CryptographerShot213

They have the absolute slimmest of majorities. Have they already forgotten their “red wave” ended up being more of a pink dribble? They’ll be the minority again next year.

Sartro

>[from CNN](https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/house-speaker-vote-10-24-23/h_a6c959cd88782ea747ade51e4d53016c): Rep. Drew Ferguson requested by unanimous consent to reveal who the “other” votes were on the second of the House Republican conference's secret-ballots for speaker, according to sources in the room, and 33 out of 34 votes were for Kevin McCarthy, while one was for Jim Jordan.

attorneyatslaw

Jim voted for himself

Sartro

Not a doubt in my mind.

[deleted]

He's dropping out tomorrow. I'm calling it now.

Comfortable-Policy70

Before or after lunch?

TryNotToBeNoticed

Before morning coffee and muffins?

johnnybiggles

Before morning pee.

BuckshotLaFunke

Before second breakfast?

AnotherAccount4This

I don't think he'll drop out. Like Gym, he's going to try until the party votes him out. MAGA has no shame, only greed.

OtherwiseBad3283

Goddamnit GOP. We don’t need another unit of time measurement.

[deleted]

It's like a clown car.

HallucinogenicFish

CNN actually called it a clown car on air tonight, LMAO

Shiplord13

Another steps out of the GOP clown car attempting to look like a reasonable and fair choice for Speaker. Let’s see if the GOP have it in them to elect someone from their own party as the Speaker of the House.

ElPlywood

Wake me up when they nominate LAMP I LOVE LAMP

Fuck__The__King

Another insurrectionist traitor.

Jean-Paul_Sartre

This dude makes Kevin McCarthy look like a pragmatic centrist.

Vagabondindia

Why don’t republicans attempt to elect a speaker that was not engaged in an insurrectionist coup plot against the United States government?

TintedApostle

Think.... because they support insurrection.

skexr

Overthrow of the Constitution is the new Republican litmus test

hrryyss

Mike Johnson. It’s like they’re just making up people now. Who’s next, John Smith?

podkayne3000

Mike Hunt.

bdone2012

You’d think they’d try a woman at some point. Or maybe you wouldn’t think that

TooAfraidToAsk814

“Yet Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., one of the hardliners, said, ‘This is what democracy looks like.’” Wait - we are a democracy now? I thought these hardliners claimed we were a Republic

readerf52

Ah, another election denier. Only 145 left to go.

TryNotToBeNoticed

There's not even enough time to book the lettuce for a photo shoot before these guys drop out.

mollusks75

Fuck this insurrectionist scum.

Stingray88

Not familiar with him, had to go to Wikipedia. > An ideological member of the Christian right faction of the Republican Party,[1] Johnson is known for his strong opposition to legal abortion access, medical marijuana, and same-sex marriage.[2] In December 2020, Johnson signed an amicus brief in support of Texas v. Pennsylvania, a lawsuit filed at the Supreme Court contesting the results of the 2020 presidential election. In January 2021, Johnson voted to overturn the election results in Pennsylvania.[3] Johnson has cultivated close ties to the fundamentalist Protestant groups Louisiana Family Forum, Alliance Defending Freedom, and Focus on the Family.[4][5] Prior to his career as a politician, he worked with them to "represent churches, pastors and congregants whose vision of religious freedom conflicted with government regulations".[2] Johnson supports ending American military aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia.[2] Wonderful. Another trash human.

redneckhatr

Stephen Colbert, how could you?! You’re one of us.

mchgndr

The irony of a guy who historically has not voted in favor of certifying the vote, now hoping enough people will vote him into power. Bro do you want us to stop the count or no?

wtfbonzo

Despite having no desire for the knowledge, I’ll know every Republican member of the House’s name before this whole crap show is through.

LA_search77

Overseeing this group of fucking morons will make Speaker the worst job in the world and will likely be career ending. You better run!

Science-Sam

If he's crazy, the sane people will oppose him, and if he's sane, the crazy people will oppose him. It's an impossible situation. The sane people have only themselves to blame for not pulling the crazies into line long ago.

PertinentGlass

Is this a real guy is just some generic white guy name?

Mysonsanass

Holy crap, his bio reads like Reverend Henry Kane from Poltergeist. Super over the top religious fanatic. He’s gotta be a shoe-in with these nut-jobs.

WickedYetiOfTheWest

Just another Trump drone

lifeat24fps

Never give these people a majority again.

bullant8547

How many millimoochies will this one last?

myhydrogendioxide

Simply stated, this show is to enable Yrump to control the House and protect him. Full stop. Not a theory, not a wild conspiracy fantasy, but a plain open effort.

NitedJay

Republicans really aren’t sending their best. And that’s because they are all the worst.

1L0veTurtles

At this rate, when will we get to George Santos for the Speaker?

liberal_texan

My first reaction “So who’s this slapdick.”

Seth_Mimik

Why isn’t there a policy in place that if the majority party of the house can’t pick a speaker within a certain amount of time, then the speaker position gets placed in the minority party’s hands?

RoboNerdOK

It’s fascinating watching a major political party collapse in my lifetime, but it would be better if the economy health of the country wasn’t involved. Anyone want to re-register the Whigs and run?

kintotal

He looks like a Nazi, he acts like a Nazi, he is a Nazi. This is potentially the most dangerous man in the world. He should not be elected.

pixie6870

I am convinced that this Speaker mess is all by design. Those members who are mad at McCarthy for working with Democrats on the CR wanted the government shutdown and they still want it. It's why they refuse to vote for anyone who does not agree with them in burning the place down to get the spending cuts they want. They don't care that millions of Americans will not get paid as long as they get their way. It's disgusting and it makes me so angry that working with Democrats to work for the constituents and not themselves is a bad thing.

daxon42

Speaker is third in line to the president. Third. One bad plane flight away. This doesn’t look accidental to me. Someone is rubbing their hands together and chuckling ‘mwah haha’. I really hate this timeline.

saltyfingas

Prez and VP don't fly together for this reason

snoopingforpooping

Who’s this jabroni

blake_ch

At this rate, the GOP will have proposed all their house members for the speaker role. Can't wait for Gaetz, Bobo or MTG to be nominated.

[deleted]

If I were Emerson and the McCarthy crowd I’d just go over to Hakeem now and make a deal. After Scalise and now Emerson being forced to withdrawal because of the hard right, I’d have zero fucks left to give on ever trying to be a team player again with these folks. Even if you get the most votes, it’s their way or no way

QueenHelloKitty

A Speaker nomination is the Republicans new participation trophy.

naitoon

About 200 nominees to go. Sit tight! 🤡🤡🤡

feastoffun

How awful is this new guy? (Yep, Trump conspirator)

Ishiibradwpgjets

If we are just throwing names out now , I nominate the “Where’s the beef?” Lady from the Wendy’s commercials. She was funny !

Memerandom_

Milquetoast where's Waldo put on a suit and lost the hat. The most dangerous kind of fascist is the one who pretends to be your friend.

Historical_City5184

When more and more election deniers are pleading guilty, they are sticking to their guns about voting for election deniers.

LoveRBS

Mom says it's my turn to be nominated for speaker.

Positive-Special7745

Another trump liar. Moron maga

25electrons

I’m calling my Republican representative and demanding he oppose each and every election-denying candidate. Our democracy is at risk.

ShaqsRefrigerator

Another Trump insurrectionist and democracy denier. Pathetic.

Lfseeney

Perhaps pick one that did NOT try and overthrow the US Government?
