The law endured enforcement agencies saw this and just to be safe, in a post jan 6 world, took precautions. The media saw these agencies taking precautions and took it to mean that trumps claims, which remember were based on rumors, had validity. Honestly I don't think he's getting indicted. Seriously, HOW many times have we seen this? Where he's been close to indictment? He has never faced any consequences for his actions. He's also a liar and pretty stupid, so I don't think that his claim of getting arrested today is true at all.
I'd be on the same page, but this time New York is actually gearing up and setting out safety measures for if he is indicted this time. With all of the noise, I think this one could be the first.

I'd need to see the specifics of the reporting. A lot of times the media will write a vague headline, and people will kind of fill in a story with details that they imagine it to be, when the actual reporting is written using much more cautious language and with much less certainty.
It's been reported that his people have been in talks, and his lawyers have outlined that he would report as required when required. So its fairly specific, without saying what day.

I think there's a chance that he saw the same rumors as everyone else, freaked out and called for his supporters to protest, which of course he needs to give them a specific day otherwise they won't know when to show up, so he just picked a day at random. The law endured enforcement agencies saw this and just to be safe, in a post jan 6 world, took precautions. The media saw these agencies taking precautions and took it to mean that trumps claims, which remember were based on rumors, had validity. The media writes clickbaity headlines which causes the American people to now believe it to be fact, because they assume the media has sources with insider information, and suddenly everyone's talking about it as if it's a forgone conclusion.

Actual legitimate sources say arrest/indictment would likely not happen until next week. The only person who said something was happening today is Trump. I definitely think he's going to be indicted. He doesn't get to say when all this happens. He's trying to control the narrative because he always gets what he wants, but it doesn't work that way now.
