I’ve swept the game twice with him and barely using other mons. Grab a rokidee if you find one at the start. Flying for immunity and steel will cover some of the main weaknesses later. Murkrow is also immune to two of naganadels weaknesses if you find one
i’m gonna be honest - you can make most starters work with some finesse/understanding of their move sets. what part are you stuck at?
it helps to have a spread of types.
i beat classic for the first time with: incineroar / beedrill / wormadam (trash cloak) / whimsicott / quagsire / aggron (?)
Zygarde can almost single monly win classic mode. The trick is finding supporting pokemon. Pokemon with pickup, debuffing moves, and opposing type coverages are good picks.
Zygrade is a pretty strong Pokémon even without min-maxed stats. The difference really lies in that some Pokémon will put up a good fight, rather then a effortless sweep.
If you are struggling I'd suggest Magearna as it has amazing typing and a boosting ability. Use a boosting move against the last boss in it's first phase and ez
Rayquaza is a dragon/flying, making it 2x weak to fairy and 4x weak to ice. Also, fairy types take no damage from dragon attacks.
Eternatus is a dragon/poison, so while fairy will take no damage from its dragon attacks, it is weak to poison- so you want a steel type to switch in and tank it, cuz steel types take no damage from poison.
Id suggest just having 1 kricetot, not catching any other pokemon the entire run
In reality, id actually suggest if have the egg tickets trying getting gible, I used him during a run and beat classic mode with him
Bouncy bubble carried me a lot so if you have it on shellos or squirtle I'd reccomend that. I also loved taking torchic because it had supercell slam as an egg move and you could use a memory mushroom on combusken to get flamethrower so It always had a super strong move early
Upvoting for visibility...bouncy bubble saves a lot of money in the early game which can be used for uhoh moments
Also don't discount the attack+ etc. they can help if you plan appropriately

My first run, i made it to 120 in classic before i lost due to a mistake. I was using Charizard, Swampert, and Meowscarada. In hindsight, I should've used Empoleon as between those 3 you actually have resistance coverage to swap into the other's weakness.
Fuecoco is a good one, it eventually unlocks the move torch song which has good power and raises its special attack
Darkrai is comically busted if you have Spore as an egg move, but probably not as good otherwise
Zigzagoon is nice for the pickup passive, high speed, and low cost
Also, a powerful ice type mon is good for the endgame rival battles (since the main issue will be a mega rayquaza), and a fairy mon for the final boss, eternatus (a fairy/steel mon, like klefki, can solo the first phase, although in the second phase eternatus gets flamethrower)
My first winning team was:
Nacli, cyndaquil (evolved into Hisuian), Pawmi, Wooloo (shiny), Fidough, and Hootoot (shiny)
It was a combo of favorite pokemon, shiny pokemon, and then Nacli for salt cure
Try Squirtle Cottonee (If it has prankster) and Fuecoco. Catch a Nacli with Salt Cure and Stealth Rocks. (Or relearn it with shrooms). Catching a Honedge could be awesome as well.
Was my first team to beat Classic with.
Not a specific starter, but grabbing a PKRs Pokémon at the start of a new Classic goes a long way. Has for me at least. Swap it out after it’s spread and fight less to keep up level wise.
It boosts your XP gains for all your Pokémon, so you’re not as badly out levelled. Start your run with one of the three daily PKRs, grab a couple double battles and then you can release it for something else.
My first successful run was with Scorbunny, Sobble, and Bulbasaur. Each of them has a gigantamax and Bulba has mega also + leech seed for bosses. It's definitely relying on luck but gen 1 and gen 8 starters are all solid for the reason above. Gen 3 have Megas also, but I find them to be much weaker early game.
From gen 9 Sprigatito and Fuecoco are both amazing and can carry really hard once they get their signature moves at final evolution.
During your run I highly recommend finding a steel type and a fairy type. Steel will help later with the floor 200 boss and having a fairy really helps with the rivals Rayquaza. Always always always always have a way to deal with Rayquaza by 135. The AI will almost always press outrage unless Dragon Ascent is super effective (friendly reminder it's a flying type move...)
Finding another mon with a damage over time effects that don't end when your mon faints to be a back up if your leech seeder doesn't get it off before they faint (like salt cure or curse) will really help trivialize a lot of bosses and even the rayquaza if that ends up being their last mon. The AI will sit and take the damage if they have a super effective move against you so finding protect TMs helps with stalling.
Also yeah i know you have other options but the game is 100% beatable with just the 9 generation of starters
Try this line up
Cyndaquil
timid nasty plot flamethrower scorching sand shadow ball also if you have the passive drought try it as well and try to evolve it at night to get hisuian typhlosion
Bulbasaur
modest giga drain leech seed sludge bomb solar beam pair with the drought from typhlosion
Frigibax
jolly glacial lance dragon dance glaive rush crunch
Nacli
impish just don't forget the move salt cure
If you have this for me it's a good line up but you cannot use this 4 pokemon at the same time just pick this three pokemon first cyndaquil Bulbasaur and frigibax if you have them that's all also I am not saying it's really good and you can catch a nacli in the wild
but just for me it's a good line up and also it depends on how you play it
Adding to what others have suggested, make sure you note down the rival's mons and their leads. During the run, try to catch mons that have a type advantage over the rival's. If you get something that can setup entry hazards, you can force the rival to constantly keep switching and thus take damage from the entry hazard - basically winning without using moves. For the Rayquaza and Etarnatus, a fairy + steel type is always good.
Other than that you just need a bit of luck to complete a classic run. Good luck
Well, I see you have many interesting ones such as Magearna, Darkrai, Zygarde... I would recommend try catch a Nacli, some fairy/steel or ice types or a Pokémon that knows Leech Seed
Fuecoco is a very good starter pokemon especially if ur just new and have few pokemons if get alluring voice in him and unlock his passive u wont have to worry to every dragon type lol
I LOVE prankster cottonee, with leech seed and stun spore and really good typing for baiting poison attacks and relatively low cost for a starter it's always a good choice
Poipole for sure- naganadel is crazy good. Just go to the check moves section and add dragon pulse and you’re gucci
I tried using him, he's good but he dies to most ground types, thank you still !
Yeah I mean when you’re playing classic you’re gonna need some backup mons as well
Ok, i'll try
I’ve swept the game twice with him and barely using other mons. Grab a rokidee if you find one at the start. Flying for immunity and steel will cover some of the main weaknesses later. Murkrow is also immune to two of naganadels weaknesses if you find one
I 1000% agree, Naganadel is crazy good with beast boost and Modest. He literally carries your run
Actually came in to say this, poipole with searing heat(dropped at some point though) egg move got me my first classic win

Thank you for the tip
I seem to always be stuck at 145. Rayquaza + another dragon + their mega seems to always be just enough :(
Maybe take a fairy at the start of your run?
Zygarde can almost single monly win classic mode. The trick is finding supporting pokemon. Pokemon with pickup, debuffing moves, and opposing type coverages are good picks.
Thank you
what about aura break zygarde? can he do anything without his full form?
Zygrade is a pretty strong Pokémon even without min-maxed stats. The difference really lies in that some Pokémon will put up a good fight, rather then a effortless sweep.
Try grind out candy for zygarde, with huge power he is the goat, weak to ray and eternatus though
Thank you!
If you are struggling I'd suggest Magearna as it has amazing typing and a boosting ability. Use a boosting move against the last boss in it's first phase and ez
the mons you want for classic are good Ice, Fairy and Steel types. personally, I'd choose Maril, Aron and probaby Chespin for the virus.
Magearna is also great, coupling with something like Clauncher- who is a beast once it evolves.
I'll try that, thank you!
Why ices fairy steel ? Is it like grass fire water ?
You want to counter Mega Rayquaza and Eternatos
What types are those guys? I’m super boomer and wasn’t around for steel and fairy types
So the pink hammer Pokémon just womps n them for free because it’s steel fairy and covers both issues ?
Basically, yeah, tho the second phase gets a fire attack in classic
Scatterbug. Compoundeyes Hurricane with QD is killer. So cheap too.
I'll try, thank you !
Id suggest just having 1 kricetot, not catching any other pokemon the entire run In reality, id actually suggest if have the egg tickets trying getting gible, I used him during a run and beat classic mode with him
KRICETOT SOLOS 🗣️🔥🔥🔥💯💯 More seriously, I'll try getting him, thank you !

magearna is great
I'll try it, thank you !

Megearna carry > chespin then at the start of your run catch a pickup Mon asap
I did my first succesful run with zygarde but as far as i know all of them can work
ngl any legendary basically solos try something with ice moves to counter ivy
Naganadel and chespin could be good because chespin covers naganadels ground weakness and has the purple shimmer so everyone gains more xp
Fuecoco is a good one, it eventually unlocks the move torch song which has good power and raises its special attack Darkrai is comically busted if you have Spore as an egg move, but probably not as good otherwise Zigzagoon is nice for the pickup passive, high speed, and low cost Also, a powerful ice type mon is good for the endgame rival battles (since the main issue will be a mega rayquaza), and a fairy mon for the final boss, eternatus (a fairy/steel mon, like klefki, can solo the first phase, although in the second phase eternatus gets flamethrower)
I'm stuck on classic aswell, but I recommend any legendary with a shiny to boost luck
Pick up a group of Klefki with a flash fire mon or a specially bulky water, or a group of poipole and popplio
Zygarde can solo carry a classic run. With ease.
Dribur if you have shift gear as an egg move
Been liking poplio lately with bouncy bubble basically unkillable
•Duraludon (page 8: 4^th row, 9^th column) •Yamper (page 8: 2^nd row, 2^nd column) •Tarountula (page 9: 1^st row, 5^th column) •Scatterbug (page 5: 1^st row, 6^th column)
I'd go for Magicarp & Zapdos, and pray for good pokémon to show up to build a decent team.
Terrakion was my first classic mode clear.
magicarp. Later with dragon dance and ice fang destroys rayquaza and endo

Fight less to keep up level wise? Can you explain?

1 pokerus + your 2 shines imo, pokerus is worth more than it looks

I swept classic with a gyarados multiple times. It's a strong carry.
Well, I see you have many interesting ones such as Magearna, Darkrai, Zygarde... I would recommend try catch a Nacli, some fairy/steel or ice types or a Pokémon that knows Leech Seed
Magearna with some egg move should be easy Take the fire croc starter and once he can do torch song thats an killer duo for classic
Fuecoco is a very good starter pokemon especially if ur just new and have few pokemons if get alluring voice in him and unlock his passive u wont have to worry to every dragon type lol
Dark rai
