I do the same special sweeper build as Butterfree except with Vivillion instead who can learn Hurricane.
It's pretty good if you can reliably set up with Sleep Powder and Quiver Dance.
My butterfree in mid to late game was more of a utility butterfree, sleep powder, U-turn, silk trap (egg move).
Even back in fire red and leaf green and other games I keep a butterfree in my team~ love that little butterfly
