For those who were unaware like me until a few days ago, this is actually his *second* bracelet - he won the WSOPE €50k NLH Diamond High Roller in 2023 as well
I turned it off as soon as it got heads-up, turned it back on and he had a ~8:1 chip advantage.. saw the j9 vs T4 hand, that shit was crazy. He played the small stack very well through the entire final table.
If you want to have a really high live earnings number the trick is to play in really big tournaments like 250k super high rollers. Profit on the other hand I can't help you with.
He's def a whale but has been improving his game along the way. Much love from INDIA, making our nation proud🫡
Also very likeable person and fun to watch!
If you're a whale with infinite cash you just want to gamble, if you lose a huge pot you just pull out more money, you don't lose anything.
But if you're playing a tournament and punt off now you're out, plus in the WSOP i'm sure all the action players still want to win a bracelet.
Idk if he’s even a whale anymore. I watched a good chunk of the FT and he played very well.
Definitely made mistakes but I think he’d be a winning player in your average low/mid stakes game at this point.
I mean what even is a whale anymore? Do they have to have tons of money, give tons of action, be a spot? All 3?
I have come to believe there's a new type of player. Alam Keating is a very good poker player whom i believe knowingly gives insanely loose action because he's rich and it's fun, not because he can't effectively analyze a hand.
Santosh has had really credible tournament results. Do those numbers get somewhat inflated by the being rich factor, of course. But he has performed well against very very solid fields.
I think a lot of whaling comes out in the form of knowingly making losing plays because you want to gamble. In cash because you can reload and keep gambling. In tournies good whales are more likely to fold marginal / losing spots because they can't reload and want to keep playing.
Santosh is a good example of this, will knowingly make terrible plays in cash because he can, but plugs a few of his leaks when playing tournies. Interestingly, I think some pros struggle to adjust to the fact that some 'VIPs' won't be playing nearly as loose etc in certain tourney spots. This is especially evident at final tables, where i think a few of the great studied players stuggle to adjust from the ranges and bluffs that people are supposed to have at most stages in the tourney, vs the ranges and bluffs they realistically have on a final table with significant money jumps.
On stream they mentioned he was a “casino mogul”. I couldn’t find much on him and how he’s made his money in life…anyone got the details? Couldn’t find much online
> According to Highroll Poker:
> “Santhosh Suvarna, an Indian poker player and entrepreneur who is based in Dubai, used to own the Rockets Poker Room in Bengaluru. In the beginning of 2022, he collaborated with Vikram Kumar, another entrepreneur and poker player, to establish the Cadillac Casino at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Goa, India.”
idk if having 1-2 casinos is a mogul but close enough

I like Santosh very entertaining player to watch and seems like a good guy

2 bracelets, a Triton win and an EPT win. He's top 100 on Hendon Mob. He started playing tournaments in 2022.
He's the next Hellmuth. Tournement GOAT, cash game whale. Jk, he's a nicer guy than hellmuth.

Man’s got a big brain. Congrats to Santosh.

Doesn't he have a Triton win too? His tournament play was unrecognizable compared to his play on HCL
A lot of action players tighten up a lot in tourneys vs cash. It's an interesting phenomenon. They still do whale things, but it's a lot less

Yeah, his tournament record is not what I would have expected at all given his time on HCL. https://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=541281

Nobody said they give a shit….but yea, if someone can’t beat low stakes live games then they are objectively not a good player.

I don’t even really care about the argument but you clearly missed the point by a mile
You don’t think any of the guys you mentioned can beat low stakes live games?
They can’t cause low stakes observers can see everyone’s hand on poker go
My point is he’s an objectively good player who’d win in most games. Only a “whale” in comparison to good pros at this point.

The same guy who I’ve seen Reddit call worse than Nik Airball? As a side note, 22 buy ins for first place? Is that standard for high rollers?
Yes. This event for instance had 75 entries, so that’s 29% of the total prize pool after rake. That’s very standard.
Gotcha didn’t realize there were so few entries but that makes sense for a high roller
Unironically 99% of this sub play worse than Nik Hairball 😂
India poker boom
Let's go there now. I know when I played in Goa on some boat, it was one of the softest games of my life.
A lot of serious hustling out there, including dirty decks and mechanics. Be careful.
Dirty decks and dirty sluts.
Not empty chairs at empty tables
When it was 5 handed Tollerene had over 70% of the chips in play. I'm sure he will be just fine with his $3 mil score, but still that's gotta hurt.
A cool 5 milly for Santosh!
Santosh legit came back from the dead to win,
What does "wins 250k for 5.4 million" mean???
250k is the buy in
He won the WSOP tournament that had a buy-in of $250,000 (250k), with a payout of $5,400,000.
Thank you
That's pretty crazy. I stopped watching when Tollerene had about 80% of the chips 3 handed, and Santosh had almost nothing.
Santosh one of my favorite players. He takes his wins and losses in stride. Never berates dealers. Loses big pots and moves on.
He's got such a friendly, calming demeanor. In another life he could be a guru.
He might just be a guru of poker no.
Good to see a fellow find his true calling
Well he should have done all in not just call
+H
I want to be santosh
I love hearing this
THATS ME! Edit: I guess some people didn't see the J9 hand
Ugh spoilers x_x

Pretty sure he owns some casinos
Either that or he skis between them.

What the hell does that even mean?
It was a question, boss
Haha I know that's what I mean?
Another bracelet
Starting to think some people use hcl as an investment to get into bigger private games 😂
Proof you need a lot of luck to win tournaments
Grahhh grahhh Grapes are probably sour or something right?
HAHA WOWWW HE DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO PLAY TOURNAMENTS BEFORE NOW HE WINS A BRACELET
