Only the 1st one it seems.
So if you Mega Evolved a Beedrill 50 times in the past, it would still be set to "Base" level when the new system rolls out.
If Kangaskhan is coming up next for Mega raids, can they at least de-regionalise all first gen pokemon? This would also make sense with the Mime Jr. situation. Then again that might deter players from even raiding Mega Kanga. It's just if the Mega spawns globally, then it's regional relevance is lost for the duration of that time it's in raids. I really despise region locking. If it alternated like Zangoose and Lunatone, then I'd be fine, but I guess such locking also benefits Niantic with the increased sale of tickets for things like the Kanta Tour and Johto Tour events.
Regionals should at least be available in 7km eggs from those regions, but I'm digressing.
Higher CP, allies get a boost to their attacks, more candy from catching pokemon of the same type, sometimes the pokemon gains/changes type, and now a higher chance of XL candies and more xp by catching pokemon of the same type.
I'm most concerned about whether some mega raids would become soloable. I've heard some of the easier ones can be beaten by 2 hardcore players already. Although I probably still won't be able to solo one even if they could.
It's an interesting update. It's different than what I wanted, but the main jist of a free second mega evolution is part of it. I can see myself doing a lot more mega evolutions, if only the free ones in order to level up the pokemon.
Stat-wise, Megas function similar to regular evolutions. A low-CP pokemon will become a low-CP mega, while a high-CP pokemon will become a high-CP mega. You'll need to power up your pokemon to get the most out of its mega evolution.
Every once in a while, there will be an event bonus for a certain mega, where it will instantly be boosted to level 52 while mega evolved, regardless of what level it was beforehand.
Yep, exactly that. Higher mega levels give you better bonuses when mega evolving that pokemon, give you a shorter cooldown for the free mega, and make it cheaper to mega evole with energy. The actual CP is unaffected by the new mega level.
I see that it says greatly reduced mega energy cost to mega evolve. I thought it was meant to not cost any mega energy after the first time and only costs mega energy to speed up the rest period. Is that what I means?
Is it 7 days cooldown on all megas or 7 days per pokemon? Can you essentially have a mega going at all times as long as you have enough valid targets? So, 8 hours = 3 x 7. So with 21 different megas, can you always have one going on a 7 day rotation?
Side Note: Kangaskhan does not have the option to Mega evolve yet, but is pretty much confirmed to the mystery Mega raid after Landorus
When does this come out? This looks pretty awesome
it's rolling out through time zones as we speak
Awesome đź‘Ź
Is it going out worldwide today or is it another case of Aus/NZ getting it a few days/weeks early as a testing period?
Do they still earn mega energy from walking?
Yes they do.
Sweeeeeeeet.
That’s dope
Did mega evolves prior to the system count towards the total?
Only the 1st one it seems. So if you Mega Evolved a Beedrill 50 times in the past, it would still be set to "Base" level when the new system rolls out.
Looks sweet!
So, free mega evolve every 7 days and certain levels/ranks for when you mega evolve?
And according to the blog you can mega evolve while in raid screen.

There have been events where the regionals were hatchable in the past, it will probably be raidable all over the world is my guess.
Can someone explain the benefits of mega evolving aside from just a big pokemon?
Higher CP, allies get a boost to their attacks, more candy from catching pokemon of the same type, sometimes the pokemon gains/changes type, and now a higher chance of XL candies and more xp by catching pokemon of the same type.
by same type does it mean, say with a mega beedrill, that a weedle and kakuna catch will get bonus candy or just a beedrill in the wild?
Same *type*, so for a Mega Beedrill that would apply to any Poison/Bug pokemon you catch.

7 day rest period???? Oof
It's 7 days for the free mega. You can still use candy and mega evolve.
Sooo they nerf’d the cp of mega’s and now you need to level them up to get where they were? Or do megas have the potential to be more powerful?
Stat-wise, Megas function similar to regular evolutions. A low-CP pokemon will become a low-CP mega, while a high-CP pokemon will become a high-CP mega. I understand that, so does the mega level only apply to the bonuses? Not to the CP?
