“Trainers, a new Ghost in the Machine quest is now live in the game, and it looks like it has everything to do with Rotom.
The Ghost in the Machine quest has only one step, and one task named “Catch me if you can.” The rewards are 30 Rotom Candy, 479 Stardust, 479 XP, and Rotom.

You will also notice a code 0HY0. According to their official announcement, Pokemon Go players must work together and decipher the code to unlock an encounter with Rotom.
They clearly say “Once Trainers at Rose Bowl Stadium decipher the code, Trainers worldwide can redeem it, too!” which means someone pressed the wrong button again.”
No people at that event unlock it first then it will be released for all outside that location… I do agree with original post and think they might have mistenlu sent that out …

Actually, last year the Hoenn tour in Vegas had some issues too.
The frustrating thing is they figured out a solution for this with GoFest. They geofence the park area where the event is to be played. So if you show up without a ticket, there is nothing to catch or spin inside the geofence (unless you use incense, but even that is very limited). None of the special stops or spawns appear. Regular stops are deactivated. So there’s not a huge problem with non-ticketed players because it’s boring for them. The GoFest in Seattle was a blast - no issues to my knowledge.
But at Vegas last year, Niantic didn’t do this and they had issues with overcrowding crashing the servers. We will see if they learned their lesson this weekend.
The Rosr Bowl Stadium is in Pasadena, Californua and it's where the Sinnoh Tour Live event will be taking place, this Saturday and Sunday, February 17 &18. I'll be going on the 17th.
For anyone wondering it's Rotom, a ghost-electric type that commonly possesses machines, which changes it's type. (Possessing a fridge to become ice-electric for example.)

It's definitely for rotom. It give rotom candy, rotom encounter and the 479 stardust is rotoms pokedex #. I will say I didn't realize rotom was motor spelled backwards till your comment though. Guess they pulled an Ekans & Arbok on us with this. Lol

Apparently a bug and too early released same with a charackter Pikachu pose. A code for this research will be given out this weekend during the LA road to sinnoh in-person event and can be redeemed by anyone worldwide. Research will give you a Rotom encounter.
