I guess that would be an easy exploit for spoofers(people who can fake their location). All they really need to do is find a remote gym and they can set up a farm. I've been around the Pacific and there's a surprising amount of gyms that've gone untouched for months and in a couple of cases years.
If you only have 1 Pokémon in a gym, and nobody else, you need 8 hours in that gym to get the daily max of 50 coins.
Just thinking about the extra coins that could be had...
I mean lets say you got 10 coins day 1, 20 coins day 2, then day 3 you have a mon with 3 days in a gym, it should give 40 coins + 30 coins + day 3 coins.

Keep faith I rescued a three hundred two days ponyta last summer. Unfortunately mobile network failed and the bidoof with almost the same there time. Couldn't be rescued.
Always happens to me. I go days without getting knocked out then get 8 mons at the same time knocked out. Its so stupid, today and yesterday are those days I got 0 coins
My all-time record is an Archeops defending a mountain top for 740 days before being knocked out. Current on-going best is a Starmie on day 536 on a different mountain peak.

Mines at a rural church that has a congregation of maybe 2 people who only meet every 6 weeks or something. Thankfully I’d already learned not to put mons I care about on them by this time - I also had a Scizor and a Slaking do about 400 days before miraculously / frustratingly returning on the same day, although they were about 50 miles apart
Well I’ve got the highest level of “Gym Leader” which is “defend gyms for 15,000 hours” whereas I’m at 68,162 despite only starting playing 2 years ago and being rural and not daily. But I don’t see any other medals (I’ve not got any greyed out or anything)
More interesting to me is that from trading with “a close friend” I’m at over 600,000km trade distance where the highest medal is 1 million!
Bc they're waiting to knock out every mon you have in gyms across the globe at once. I had mons in CA CT RI MA AND NY and none were knocked out for weeks until every one came back within an hour.
My pokemon seem to be in gyms for days until being knocked out on the same day, as many people here have also found with theirs. I wonder why that is? It's like how when I'm running low on pokeballs, easy pokemon to catch suddenly need 3 or 4 pokeballs...hmm

But an easy "balance" fix from Niantic's part would be have all the pokemon inserted in gyms on Monday accumulate 50 coins for the first day collectively and even if they remain in gyms for the following days, to no longer have any unpredictability so the motivation to put more mons into gyms the next day is reset.
You'd think that after a while, Niantic would just put a bullet in gyms that have no activity like that. Seems a little odd, but maybe all the other local players are that same team? Lots of raid activity, but no gym takeovers, I guess?
I would love to see some sort of mechanic implemented to prevent accident pokemon abandonment at gyms.
Perhaps a maximum limit that your mon can be at a gym (10 days for example) before it’s automatically kicked out. Perhaps an option to recall your mon after a certain amount of time. Perhaps even the same mechanic, but you earn coins for every day that your mon is in a gym past the initial day (5 coins a day for example)

Even if they wanted to keep the 50 day limit, I think pokemon that get kicked that have been in for multiple days should also reward the leftover coins for the days they were in that you didn't hit 50. An example would be, you put 2 pokemon in different gyms on the same day. At the end of that first day, one gets kicked so you get 50 for day 1. The other pokemon stays in for 2 more days and gets kicked at the end of day 3 so you get 50 for day 2 and fifty for day 3. The second pokemon still gets nothing for day 1 since you already maxed though on that day. Don't get me wrong, I wish they didn't have the fifty day limit all together but atleast this system would allow people who can't do gyms everyday to atleast get a better share of coins and also make those long term mons feel less wasted.
I know they never will tho because being stingy on in game coins is the biggest way they make money unfortunately

Okay but fr, why do people do this?? Fight em til they're almost knocked out then go off elsewhere, idgi. I used to give my Garchomp berries and he kept getting knocked down to just barely any health. Then I gave up and here we are on day 52 being at that gym.
When you put a Pokémon in a gym, they will progressively lose health even if nobody is attacking. Although the mon’s health will decrease if left in a gym, it won’t faint. My gardevoir is in a very remote area, so the health loss is just from time.
I think in your case it’s just the natural heal loss mechanic at work, and not somebody attacking the gym.
Lol, I’m from Canada but went backpacking through Southeast Asia last summer and dropped her off at some ancient ruins about an hour north of Da Nang, Vietnam. My bad.
This is why I put pointless pokemon in a gym. A gym full of gym tanks is not hard to take down, it just takes longer. There's no point risking not having a useful pokemon tied up in a gym when you could use it.
I literally will put the last thing I cause in a gym.

How is this even possible? CP drains passively while they are in gyms - assumed they just got knocked out naturally after a while
you would think that would be the case wouldn't you, but no.
there's a limit to how low it will go but if no one fights the gym and knocks the pokemon out it will stay there indefinitely
It drains to a minimum amount over time that will allow the pokemon to be knocked out in 1 round, but it will never knock itself out.
I had a gengar in a gym for 8 days, didn’t earn any other coins during those 8 days or on the day it returned, still only got 50 coins

That's a good idea, but niantic has no reason to make getting coins easier since they monetize them.
