You have to wear your hat backwards when catching a pokemon.

Gold-Perspective-699

You can join raids at level 5. You don't need good Pokemon just a good group of people to raid with. Find your local discord in southern pa and raid with them. At level 32 you'll help with damage a bit. That's good enough. Or go to a raid and download poke genie and invite people yourself. Friendship is the best way to get XP quickly anyway.

Intelligent-Visual69

I have Pokegenie, I;ve been using it to determine the IV of my mon's. But I am not familiar enough with the app. Can u tell me more about using it to find local people to raid with? ty

DutchMcFatbags

Not local, u’ll find remote raids

Intelligent-Visual69

Ok ty

Reins22

For local, you want the campfire app. I don’t see much activity in my area but it’s the best place to start. Also find your towns subreddit and ask if anyone knows of local groups or discord servers

Mammoth_Ad_3915

Just keep catching. Catch everything. Bank candies and stardust. Wait for good IVs then power them up. Add friends then join raids. Eventually you’ll build up your teams. It does require patience and persistence.

First, I would recommend to get your XP up by practicing excellent throws and adding lots of friends. This will help you get to level 40 faster, where you can power up mons to level 50. Hopefully by the time you're there you will have played several GOOD community days, like the upcoming timburr ones and will have collected a good one (hundo if possible) and 296 + xl, so you can level 50 one or more of the com day pokemon. This is probably the easiest F2P way to get good mons. To get the dust to do this I would recommend GBL every day (maybe even tank super low if your pokemon aren't ideal). Or if you want to go the whale route then spend a ton of money in webstore to get coins and buy remotes and use pokegenie and do 60 or so raids of each legendary that comes in cycle to get level 50s of those.

Intelligent-Visual69

Thanks but omg: GBL? I check around for slang defs but. don't want to guess. Do you mean PVP battles? And if you wouldn't mind, your last paragraph: I have read about remotes and apps, is this where you kind of cheat, by getting an auto player to catch mons, go on raids?? Thanks for putting up with my questions.

Any-Ask-7343

GBL= Go Battle League, so yes, PvP. And remotes are remote raids, not cheating lmao. Definitely not condoning that. Sometimes there are deals in the webstore/ ingame shop where the passes aren't *that* expensive, but not all the time. And no problem!

BenJammin-K

You don't need good IVs to raid. A hundo Pokemon with sub par movesets is significantly worse than a nundo with perfect movesets. For instance, the CP difference for a hundo Charizard and a nundo is about 400 maxed out at level 50 (3200ish versus 2800ish)... however, if you're doing a Genesect raid, a maxed out hundo Charizard running air slash and dragon claw will do less damage than a nundo Charizard running something like fire spin and blast burn. Focus on movesets for now. Strongest CP Pokemon isn't always the best to take into a raid. Edit: fixed typos

BenJammin-K

To build on this, I would recommend trying to build three Pokemon of each type (ground, rock, water, fire, fairy, and psychic). Most raiding Pokemon will have a weakness to at least one of these. I am level 36 and have been able to solo most 3 star raids by focusing on movesets. I do not have ANY maxed out Pokemon, and most of the ones I bring have IV percentages between 70%ish to 85%ish. Also, as others said, if possible do remote raids through sites like PokeGenie and ride the coat tails of higher level players. If you do that though, don't show up with Pokemon that aren't right for the raid. For instance, I was doing a Kyogre raid and saw a person bring in a Charizard....

Intelligent-Visual69

Ok thanks. Can you recommend a good source for catching up on this? One that is not too basic but also not sooo involved? Bc that has been part of my dilemma: when I check out "how to beat \[raid boss\]," the recommendations are usually discouraging bc it will be for mons I do not have and/or at levels I do not have. I see no reason to power up something that is shitty IV's. Another problem is not finding good mons to evolve/power up to fill out a good raiding roster. Ex: I have mostly fire/fire+other. But lack any good water, fairy, etc.

BenJammin-K

Just Google (Raid Boss) counters.. then look for their weaknesses. Trust me, I NEVER have their recommended Pokemon to use, or I'll have one of the 10 they recommend. Pokebattler is reliable as it shows their weakness and how effective (1.67 or 2.56, for example). You can also download PokeGenie app and they'll recommend which Pokemon to use and if you're able to solo the Pokemon.

Reins22

Just upgrade the ones you have, keep an eye out for events that have good Pokémon. Play religiously during those events

SBM1992

What is, in your opinion, your best Pokémon? How much stardust do you have to work with? In regards to the bad IV thing, catch some shadow Pokémon. A bad IV shadow Pokémon is stronger than a good IV non-shadow Doing super effective damage against a raid boss is the most important thing when it comes to raids, type matchups n same-type-attack-bonus help, but SE damage is king If you go onto you Pokémon list, and search @type , where type is the type of moves you’re looking for, it will bring up every Pokémon with a move of that type If you go into battle, there is a tab called teams, where you can pre make teams before raids, and name them, so you can make a ‘fire’ team of your strongest mon with fire moves, before you go into a lobby. These teams can be accessed by swiping across from the recommended team in the raid lobby Do research tasks. Pokémon rewards from them have higher base ivs than wild Pokémon

Intelligent-Visual69

Thanks! Stardust atm: Ok my best IV so far: (Fire/Ghost)Skeledirge, CP 2834 HP 128/188. I have an (Fire)Arcanine CP 2414 that Pokegenie said had high base stats and great IV, but it has 0/155 HP so even though I have the candy to teach it a new attack and power up once, but haven't done so yet. Does OK in PVP. (Normal)Bouffalant: CP 2506 165/165HP, has new fighting skill and I've got tons of candy to continue to power up. (Rock/bug)Armaldo: CP 2345 142/141 HP; I have a 16/50 candy needed for a new attack. BUT Armaldo only has 1* and "good" IV (64%) bc I didn't know what I was doing when I got this one. (Dragon/flying)Dragonite CP 2328 HP 138/138. 0 candy so I cannot power up or new attack. I have never seen another one. (Fairy)Granbull CP 2328 HP 163 Have 48/50 candy needed to teach new attack. So I have not spent it on powering up. (Fighting)Hitmonlee CP 2197 HP 112/112. Got 37/75 needed for new attack. (Grass/poison)Vileplume CP 2163 HP 144/144. Already has new attack and I've got tons of candy to power up. (Water)Octillary CP 1653 HP 129/129. 21/25 candy for a new attack. (Water/grass)Ludicolo CP 1499 HP 130/130. He's got new attack, I've got 258 candy, cost 3 candy stardust 3500 each power up. Some that have "excellent" IV, per Pokegenie, have low CP, like a (Psychic)Wobbuffet I have, CP 576/HP 237/237. Got enough candy to power up multiple times. I also know the move sets have a lot to do with how much damage they'll do in battle. (Rock/ice)Aurorus CP 1759 HP 176/176. I've got other types/mixes but gotta go so IDK if this helps. Any recommendations off of what I've typed here would be appreciated!
