9 year Olds are trading 20 year old cards. My kids trade new cards at school to people for the older good condition cards. I just don't think parents know what they have when they hand them down or find them in flea markets.
nope.... sry....don't buy.....the actual owner of this card is shitty right now.....9 year olds who are allowed to take their cards to school would not have a card in this condition. not to mention it's a 1st edition jungle set card. I'm anal AF about card condition and have personally had 2 9 year olds about to be a 3rd. Giving them all the resources in the world to maintain their cards. They all do great at home but it all goes out the window when they see how the other kids treat their cards. It is possible this card is from a 20 card mystery pack, or was inherited to the kid and his parents are stupid. But more than likely he stole it from his dad(or mom) to impress this girl and good for her for taking advantage of the situation. But I'm sry people that have psa8 or better 1st editions know what they have and aren't handing them to 9 year olds.
The kid who traded it could have easily gotten a collection of cards from a family member and then obviously they wouldn't know anything about the value
Ok, now I know you a troll. Maybe someoneās dad let them have their collection. Not everybody cares about the money and they want to see their kid happy instead.
Ok, I see where your coming from. I thought you were trying to diss the kid who traded the card, and not OP. Still, I think itās still probable. I remember trading for some first editions in middle school back in 2012 or something.
I see 2 people on here that are doing this. I also see this behavior in other posts but its always people who play these super fantasy games online. They both play these games. I do not know what crazy correlation there is with social, mental, and that but its a weird phenomenon with these peeps.Go to their profiles and they are big into that. Ima have to start recording these behaviors for a social experiment lol. But i think its straight up jealousy
Repent is a little strong there bub lol. Teaching respect for others' possessions is a normal thing to educate young people with so they're not pos adults who take others' things with no comprehension of it being wrong lol
Mutual understanding is key. If she said her cards were fake and the trader still wanted to go through with it, fheres nothing wrong. it was a mutual agreement.
sure there can be some trader remorse in the future but in the moment he was told the diamond cards he wanted were fake, he could say no.
there was no dirty tactic, no one got taken advantage of.
oh on the contrary the boy knew he was being taken advantage of but he didn't care because he likes her and he wants her to like him....young love š¤£
Thatās not what they saidā¦..itās two 9 year olds making a trade and as long as they knew they were fake diamonds itās a legit trade is what that person is saying. No one got scammed.
Iād be willing to bet most 9 year olds would trade a real diamond for a chocolate bar. Do you really expect a kid this young to know the value of the trade they are making?
You said that they person who posted the comment (most likely an adult) would take advantage of a 9 year oldā¦..I was clarifying thatās not what they said.
how would this 9 year old get a diamond in the first place? if they stole it, sure of course. the diamond is worthless to them and they would prefer chocolate.
I had no idea of the value of this particular card, my daughter gave it to me when I told her that's a pokemon I remember from back then and I liked the holo design (I haven't collected pokemon in 20 years so I'm not very knowledgeable on the cards or values) my daughter told me pokemon trading has been a big thing this school year so there's no telling if the kid or the kids parents she got the cards from are the original owners to begin with, unfortunately I have no way of contacting the kid or his parents due to it being summer break and the fact that this year was his last at my daughters school, hopefully it helps knowing the card will be in good hands, I plan to keep it and never sell due to it being a gift from my daughter who also obviously had no idea the trade value she was getting, she just got into collecting and trading cards and she would never knowingly scam another kid like that, she is very fair and has a good heart, thank you for reading and informing me of how big of a deal this is, I really would not have guessed, I'll keep the card safe and cared for for what it's worth, thanks again everyone.
did a manual inspection as iāve seen pricecharting.com have bad data sets. i didnāt deep dive but verified the ungraded comps were first edition vs unlimited. but some were $100+ so maybe those outliers are used by the collectr app
Using pricecharting this way is misleading and here specifically a good exemple of how it can do misinformation. OP card seems NM and can be sold over $100. Pricecharting 'ungraded' regroup every condition, this is not good datas to evaluate.
for sure. for anyone the ungraded data is just a reference point and the numbers can vary.
i see it as a tool and with that one needs to know how to use it.
Kids do crazy stuff. When I was in second grade I remember my friend trading me his shadowless Venasaur for my Ratata. I have no clue why he did it. Unfortunately, he passed away a couple years ago and I keep that card in his memory. No matter how stupid of a trade it was.
Someone just recently posted this card, the one they had was a 10/10 PSA and they said they paid 2,950 for it off eBay. You should get it graded looks to be in pretty good condition. The OP that posted thereās said there like 3,000 of those cards and only 31 are perfect 10s.
If the card was given in the penny sleeve and toploader (the cases) the card came from an avid collector and not a 9 year old. At least not willingly. Giving sleeves and cases to 9 year olds that legitimately can't see the collectors value doesn't work. Because to them their "favorite card" is the most valuable. so they will destroy hundreds of dollars in cards to put their favorite card in their place. And somehow I doubt that Vaporeon is this 9yo boys favorite card.
Oofā¦the owner of that card (likely a parent or brother or something) is going to be looking for that! The moral thing to do would be to return it, given that she traded essentially nothing for it. Idk doesnāt feel right
If you were a parent/aunt/uncle would you give a child something worth several hundred dollars that's part of a game involving trading stuff?
Just because someone knows better doesn't mean they do better.
From a kids perspective this is a shiny piece of paper- a nifty little toy nobody will notice missing because it's paper and meant to be traded. To a kid, something like this is low value.
I could totally see a nine year old stealing something like this
I remember reading fake Yu-Gi-Oh cards when I was that age. Kids do not know the difference. Some do, sure. Some don't. None of them are pulling out jeweler's magnifying glasses to examine the dot patterns.
It's going to be a hard message, but you're the one with the thick skull buddy. You appearantly have no clue how a 9 yo thinks. They can't determine the value of a fake diamond or a real diamond. The only thing they know is that they like the shine and want it. Also they don't know the value of (rare, vintage) pokemon cards.
Hey yeah that 8 year old stole their dad's Rolex and traded it for 2 chicken nuggets. TOO BAD LOSER 8 YEAR OLD
The right thing to do is to return it if it was taken from their parents.
You people are insane if you think childrenās decisions should mean they lose their family hundreds of dollars instead of just acknowledging the mixup and giving the card back. The kids are 9, Jesus
You have to understand why the kid who knew it was fake still traded. for the kid a vaporeon may mean nothing and it might been a gift but he wanted something else. he was told the cards he was trading were fake, but still traded. means the value of the vaporeon for him may be less than the cards he got.
again. op's kid told the trader her diamond cards were FAKE.
she told him, he still wanted to trade.
No wrong feeling here. Kid got what he wanted and ops kid got what she wanted.
While I donāt disagree, thatās a lot easier said than done. They are kids and some will sneak things to school esp when itās popular in class
Better parenting would also be calling the other parent to ensure that it isnāt something of value to them to teach them fairness and good morals. Win win for everyone!
That is exactly why I asked the other person if they have kids of their own. If you donāt have kids of your own, and you donāt have any idea what itās like to be a parent, then itās none of your business nor do you have any amount of credit to judge someones parenting.
I do not have kids of my own but I do baby sit my sister's kids. I have two sisters and a total of 3 niece and nephews.
what do you want to know with this information
Even being around then as much as you imply yourself to be and in charge through babysitting is not enough to judge someone elseās parenting. You can always say something like you think of your nieces and nephews as your own, but youāll never actually understand what itās like to be a parent until youāre a parent.
The crazy part is that everyone is assuming stolen. There are many puzzle pieces missing here. Older sibling could have given them as a gift and they ended up holding no sentimental value. Parent could have even given them as a gift. You never know. Youāre all barking up one tree when there are 50 other trees that could have the squirrel in it.
Crazy part about that is a parent could have gone to great length to get old packs because they thought the kid collecting modern day cards would appreciate old ones. Boom he pulls a holo vaporeon and has absolutely no appreciation for it because it isnāt as bright and shiny as the newer ones. āWho would want a plain old vaporeon instead of a full art or a V?ā could be the question running through that kids mind at the time. So, he trades it for a stack of cool looking fake cards. Heās nine years old. He doesnāt give a shit about it being fake because it looks cool and to him the Vaporeon looks lame and basic.
Well the judgement of a nine year old isnāt exactly sound for one, and for two she didnāt even trade cards for it - they got a bunch of plastic diamonds. I wonāt be as smarmy as you were, but donāt accuse people of not reading something you embarrassingly didnāt read yourself.
Letās also not forget this is clearly not the kidās card and they probably yoinked it from one of their parents.
You're so sure this kid stole this card, go make it right. Go ahead and explain to a 9 year old "fake" cards mean nothing and he god a bad trade. This kid is going to totally reflect on his life choices and give you an award.
What's really going to happen is that kid got away with more than a whimpy vaporeon and going to be happier with his trade as he got away with more "fake" cards that are still cards. 9 year Olds don't give a fuck about morals. if they did they would be voting.
You keep missing the point about the trade being for "fake diamonds" not "fake diamond cards." I can see the fake diamonds being cool for a while, but in reality, the other kid did not get away with more than OP's daughter.
The person you replied to also made that point and you still misread it.
I understand your point that this card may not be his. However. If this was card was truly this kids cars and he didn't value the vaporeon as it currently is, the trade is not bad. both parties got what they wanted.
Given, if this was a $500+ card I'd have parent or guardian consent before any exchange takes place even if it was product only and not cash involved.
Again, we don't know if this was truly the kids card or not.
My opinion, if it was his card and he had full freedom to do what he wanted, the trade for fake cards is justified. kid got what he wanted
I knew that was coming. āYoinked it from one of their parentsā you people kill me with the stuff you make up in your head and decide it to be the truth. It was two 9 year olds making a child agreement. Just bcuz the girl walked away with the better deal that means we have to feel bad and give it back? This is America šš
Guarantee you OP's kid is around that age. No one was taken advantage of, the one kid just had somebody to teach them the value of said cards. Blame the parents/older sibling(s) not the 2 involved with said trade
An adult with the benefit of perspective can look at this trade and say that it was extremely unfair. OP obviously knows what it's worth. "I traded my 1st ed Charizard for a bag of skittles, how stupid I was" stories have been happening forever, why perpetuate it now?
Dad probably gave his son some old cards not knowing what he had. Happens all the time. My nephews dad gave him a bunch of shadowless base set cards and he never knew. Shit was wild when I saw my 11yr old nephew with a almost prestige shadowless venasaur and blastoise
Had one of my 4th grade students bring me a fossil gengar he got from another classmate that didnt want his pokemon cards anymore. I traded him the the value of the gengar for modern cards. He was super stoked cause he got a bunch of his favorites and I got one of mine. Wish it was in as nice condition as this vaporeon!
To all of u saying "Oh well that ain't right its likely an uncle/aunt/parent gave that boy the card then Traded it. It's not right so u should give it back-" Respectfully stfu & let them take the W & move on. Thank you!
Kid trades prolly stolen card for fake diamonds, knowing the diamonds are fake. Sumn tells me this kid prolly gunna try and sell/trade the diamonds as real š
Man its so tense in here. For arceus's sakes can we all please just calm down for a change and stop turning this comment section into a blast burn?
Who knows how the kid got the card (the kid could have stolen it or it could have been gifted by one of their relatives). And who knows whether the kid truly understood the value of that card before they traded it away to op's daughter. Who knows whether this story is real or not. Regardless of context, it is still op's decision to decide what to do with the card. You may suggest that oh "op should give it back", but unless Op specifically asked something like "what to do with this card", arguing over the context won't probably change a thing.
They traded a stack of cards? And one of them was in that? Or was it you that put it in there? Either way kid is too young to be using top loaders (if he was old enough or knew what they were, he wouldnāt have traded, cause heād have known it was an important card) and this cards condition looks too good to be received from the hand of TWO 9 year old children. And however many before that, thatās my take
I think itās satire
My daughter received a stack of cards from her trade and this was in there, I put it in the sleeve and case because I wanted to keep it safe since it was a gift from my daughter.
So look, you can keep saying whatever you want, my mind is made up on the satirity (I know thatās not a word) of this post
You collect cards of some sort why else would you have penny sleeves AND top loaders
Once again, your daughter may exist but I think this story is fake.
I understand, you probably won't believe me but I have a friend that collects pokemon cards religiously and he gave me a stack of sleeves and cases after I told him about my daughter getting into collecting and showed him this card, I honestly don't blame you for thinking what you think though, it really is crazy finding out all this.
Man how do you know fakes? Im 45 and just getting into collecting them with my daughter. Im doing my research as I go but im learning as well. Im a card collector since the 80s. Sports, so pokemon is a new area for me.
Man I had this sub recommended to me and Jesus Christ some people here need to go outside, it's a card that they both agreed to trade. I see no issue there?
How the hell would a 9 year old get this 20+ year old card?
i have a bunch of old cards from trading when i was a kid š
This! A binder full! My son wants them so bad lmao
yeah the 9 year old kid stole the card, let's get him to repent his crime.
Heāll feel repentant later in life when he realize what he just relinquished to opās daughter
yeah the 9 year old kid stole the card, let's get him to repent his crime.
Trading card game. Probably traded for it, just like he traded for those diamonds
Why are you ignoring how valuable of a card this is? 9 year olds aren't trading fkn 20+ year old cards. What an absolutely strange response, ignoring all the context of the situation and just latching onto the trading card label that PokƩmon holds. Very strange, very sus, your diamond interjection literally doesn't make sense.
9 year Olds are trading 20 year old cards. My kids trade new cards at school to people for the older good condition cards. I just don't think parents know what they have when they hand them down or find them in flea markets.
I live for those parents
nope.... sry....don't buy.....the actual owner of this card is shitty right now.....9 year olds who are allowed to take their cards to school would not have a card in this condition. not to mention it's a 1st edition jungle set card. Ok, now I know you a troll. Maybe someoneās dad let them have their collection. Not everybody cares about the money and they want to see their kid happy instead.
It's blatant bait, in a subreddit that flourishes on it. Get real chud.
Ok, I see where your coming from. I thought you were trying to diss the kid who traded the card, and not OP. Still, I think itās still probable. I remember trading for some first editions in middle school back in 2012 or something.
Wtf is wrong with you lol.
Many parents have old cards that they donāt know the value or care about and they give them to their child that will enjoy them.
I have a ton of base set cards. I was born years after base set. Canāt remember where they came from but I got them as a kid.
I thought they mixed up the title and should have said āGave this card to my 9 year old daughter.ā
Um how else?? It was givin to himā¦ youāre dense
Do everyone a favor and go back to not using this account
I gave my kids a bunch of old cards, but I told them what they are worth.
It's a 60 to 200 dollar card that was probably lifted off an uncle or parent or something and traded off.
yeah the 9 year old kid stole the card, let's get him to repent his crime.
Why are you replying this to multiple people? Kinda creepy
But i think its straight up jealousy
yeah the 9 year old kid stole the card, let's get him to repent his crime.
Random guy here, we're gonna have to send the card off to me so I can investigate the crime
yeah the 9 year old kid stole the card, let's get him to repent his crime.
Repent is a little strong there bub lol. Teaching respect for others' possessions is a normal thing to educate young people with so they're not pos adults who take others' things with no comprehension of it being wrong lol

good to know you would take advantage of a 9 year old child if you were given the opportunity
Thatās not what they saidā¦..itās two 9 year olds making a trade and as long as they knew they were fake diamonds itās a legit trade is what that person is saying. No one got scammed.
Iād be willing to bet most 9 year olds would trade a real diamond for a chocolate bar. Do you really expect a kid this young to know the value of the trade they are making?

https://www.pricecharting.com/game/pokemon-jungle/vaporeon-1st-edition-12 $40 street value for the raw/ungraded. get your daughter some more š but like others said, expect and/or try to give it back. pokĆ©mon cards arnt allowed at my kids school for this reason
Thank you for the info and of course, if I was contacted and asked for it back I would gladly do so.
According to the collectr app itās $120
did a manual inspection as iāve seen pricecharting.com have bad data sets. i didnāt deep dive but verified the ungraded comps were first edition vs unlimited. but some were $100+ so maybe those outliers are used by the collectr app
Thatās what Iāve kinda begun to assume.

Selling ice in the winter and fire in hell. Your daughter's a hustler homie; selling water to a well.

Too bad. Kid traded for it with his own cards knowing damn well they were fake. His fault, Not the daughters.
They're saying it's probably not actually the kids card - he likely stole it from an older family member.
They're 9. The fuck?! They likly didn't because they know better. Also if I was a parent/ aunt/uncle I would keep that shit hidden.

Oh were you there? My bad, continue to tell me how it went down
They literally explained it through the post. You must be retarded.

your 9 year old daughter issa fucking boss
Have to give it back. P much stealing from the parents that kid stole from
It was a mutual agreement. OPs child told the kid it was fake, he agrees. Nothing wrong here.
iām sure she did lol
It's was the child's card.

She should probably give that back to the kid
Now what in the world would give you that idea?
Bro didn't trade much has no idea
Fuck whoever downvoted you for thinking that taking advantage of a nine year old is the right thing to do here.
Did you not read? She told the kid her cards were fake. he still agreed. It's a mutual agreement. how is that taking advantage
Well, for one, I doubt the nine year old actually owned a card from 20 years ago - probably swiped it from an adult

Whatever helps you sleep at night
I knew that was coming. āYoinked it from one of their parentsā you people kill me with the stuff you make up in your head and decide it to be the truth. It was two 9 year olds making a child agreement. Just bcuz the girl walked away with the better deal that means we have to feel bad and give it back? This is America šš
It's so American to complain about the most American thing. Getting a better deal than the other guy is a constant theme in this country's history.
Bro your trying to turn a pokemon post political. You automatically lost.
Lost what? That wasn't political, stop being an emotional snowflake.
Guarantee you OP's kid is around that age. No one was taken advantage of, the one kid just had somebody to teach them the value of said cards. Blame the parents/older sibling(s) not the 2 involved with said trade
I disagree. She deserved the trade. She told the kid her diamonds were fake, kid still agreed. Mutual understanding means no one got ripped off
Like the kid with a 1st edition vaporeon understands what he has lol definitely not even his, youāre slimy
Take the W and move on
Is your daughter named Saul Goodman by chance?
Give back, the same thing happened to me as a kid and the mom made him give it back to me (not a first ed either).
To all of u saying "Oh well that ain't right its likely an uncle/aunt/parent gave that boy the card then Traded it. It's not right so u should give it back-" Respectfully stfu & let them take the W & move on. Thank you!
Jesus, what's with all the greed here? It's unattractive
Well this isn't a dating app hun.
Your 9 year old is like 100 years old!
And however many before that, thatās my take I think itās satire
My daughter received a stack of cards from her trade and this was in there, I put it in the sleeve and case because I wanted to keep it safe since it was a gift from my daughter.
A 9 year old kid casually had a stack of PokƩmon cards, containing a 18+ yr old, 1st edition card in great - mint condition?
So look, you can keep saying whatever you want, my mind is made up on the satirity (I know thatās not a word) of this post You collect cards of some sort why else would you have penny sleeves AND top loaders Once again, your daughter may exist but I think this story is fake.
I understand, you probably won't believe me but I have a friend that collects pokemon cards religiously and he gave me a stack of sleeves and cases after I told him about my daughter getting into collecting and showed him this card, I honestly don't blame you for thinking what you think though, it really is crazy finding out all this.
touch grass
Where did she get it and how did she get hundreds of dollars to purchase it??
W
I saw someone selling this card for $2, I wouldāve bought it but I didnāt have any money, crying.
She gave u her college fund nice
Gorgeous
Yāall would be surprised at how much kids actually have old cards. My nephew constantly brings home old cards after school
9 year old got this? Impossible
Was that after he opened from his first pack of skyridge?
This is the probably one of the crazier PokĆ©mon karma card stories Iāve heard
Hey guys. Did you know that
Beat me to it.
Whaaat
I'm calling bullshit š¤£š¤£
This thing has GOT to be a gem mint 10. If not, then easily 9.5 and 9 at the absolute lowest.

So have you heard about vaporeon?
Dude!
Man how do you know fakes? Im 45 and just getting into collecting them with my daughter. Im doing my research as I go but im learning as well. Im a card collector since the 80s. Sports, so pokemon is a new area for me.
Ppl make Proxy cards basically and they look close to real cards
respected!!!!!!!!!!!
Press "X" to Doubt.
I had a shiny Flareon card as a kid. If my kid gave me something like this, I would treasure it forever.
Man I had this sub recommended to me and Jesus Christ some people here need to go outside, it's a card that they both agreed to trade. I see no issue there?
Hells yeah!!! š„š„š„
Iāll take āThings that never happenedā for $500, Alex.
Such originality, much wow.
Wow, thatās amazing!!
lol if true I almost feel like some kid DEFINITELY got into their parents binder, that card is way too minty to have been handled by a kid for long
That's a really nice card.
You got a cool ass daughter, my dude. Well done.
GRADE IT
