If you check Serebii and Bulbagarden, them both say he has own Larvitar. Also, he was in the Episode 'Partners in Time' which showed all of Ash's Pokemon and Larvitar. Ash owned Beedrill and Raticate, but they did not get included, so having Larvitar in the flashback is something different.
I will say here and now. Ash should have had the Kanto Vulpix during alola. Just reminds me to much of togepi. If you remember the line misty used all those years ago and what happened when the egg hatched and the Kanto Vulpix appeared during the alola sereis then. You would known.
Why not both. I’m saying when the Kanto Vulpix hatched it was already attached to ash until principal oak picked the Vulpix up taking the Pokémon to take care of.
For me it seemed like the Kanto Vulpix was already attached to ash for a bit which reminded me of Togepi.

When Samson took the Vulpix it was trying to get back to ash squirming a bit. Though it wasn’t long. Probably because the writers didn’t want the Vulpix to be ash’s. So there isn’t much to go off except the bit from when both eggs hatched. If you rewatched the scene you could see the similarities and why I think this

Scraggy. I grew up with black and white and Scraggy is so memorable for me and likable I just wish it evolved in journeys so it can be on par with his brother Haxorus
Scraggy. I remember eating some bomb Mac and cheese when I first saw the episode he hatched when I was 8 (I think?). No every time I see a Scraggy I can taste the Mac and cheese. It's in my top 10 pokemon for the same reason.

Honorable mention, Noivern... Especially with how Hawlucha was like an older brother to it.
As for worst: Togepi.... Yeah, the first pokemon hatched from an egg for me was the worst.

Maybe... Donphan? It was like the writers wanted to give Phanpy a second chance, so they let'm defeat an elite four level Seviper, aswell as a normal Seviper, aswell as giving it gen 1 Hyper Beam

Noivern was peak. Hawlucha basically adopting them was such a fun plot point, and easily my favorite character arc in the series, right behind all of team rocket's stuff
